  • Stuck fuel pump lock ring on a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0L broke two strap wrenches and a 1/2" chain wrench. I hope this helps any one with the same problem I had. I did spray some Zep 45 on it.

    I purchased every tool to remove F--k'n Ring. Tried them all. Took 2hrs between going to get the tools and attempting to use them., I went in my spare wood pile and got the tool that worked. An 8in piece of 2x4. SMDH. Thanks for posting this.

    Thanks a ton! Found this on Google and it is still working great for stuck lock caps! Didn't see any other video or post on a thread that had a better way without a specialty tool!

    Thank you very much they asked $70 for a tool to do the same job, but your method saved me a lot of money and done a good job. I used it on a 97 Dodge Caravan.

      Ironic I'm here because my 98 Caravan has a super stuck ring.
      Although I'm a carpenter so wood was my first choice. However the Plastics no good and the ears keep breaking off still

    Thank you!!!! This was the only thing that worked on my '00 Neon. Using a screwdriver and hammer was just tearing up the ring.

    Did you use wd40 to loosen it? I am going to attempt to take the lock ring off of my MB ml350 and the sucker is stuck.

    • @rich8867
      @rich8867  3 роки тому

      I honestly don't remember. but what I can tell you is that I know back then I didn't know this wd40 and other penetraition oils can cause some plastics to become soft and actually will act like a glue of sorts. I still use a block of wood but for plastic lubricant I use a little dish soap and water mixture in a spray bottle. hope this helps.

      If using this in Reverse doesn't work when it came off easily would signify to me that the tank or the ring one is damaged before you removed it.

    I have a Citroën with the same problem, I must say I've had better Tupperware boxes as far as sealing the contents inside goes, the design is flawed, ethanol warps the plastic tank and ring, that's why they leak, won't loosen and are usually impossible to retighten, Citroën's advice is to install a new tank and pump at a cost of £700 = $1200 . . .

    hey rich... my fuel pump also spins when turning the lock ring. and it spins and spins like 5 or 6 revolutions but didn't come off. any idea??

    • @rich8867

      if your replacing the fuel pump then hold onto it with a pair of pliers and if that doesn't work then break it out but keep trying this

    Man most fuel pump locking ring sare made out of the same cheap hard plastic crap. I had to replace a fuel sending unit on my 2016 Honda and it look very similar to your locking ring. It's even a bitch trying to reinstall it back onto the fuel pump.
