They gave my little sister Morphine to ease her passing at the age of 16! She had a rare form of leukemia that she fought for 5 yrs before succumbing to it! It tore my mother's heart!

Many people don't realize how devoted Mick Jagger was to keep in shape. Something his father impressed and required him and his brother to do in their youth. His father was a renowned Physical Education professor, and an expert on basketball, which he wrote a book about. His father also had his own TV show on physical fitness when Mick was a kid. His drug use was both overplayed, and maybe even purposeful to make him appear cool. He never did heroin or morphine. He likes marijuana.

Andrei became a Morphine addict due to injuries caused by a car accident... He was not allowed access to the Hospital's Medicine cabinet- my mom was so fond of him & always helped where she cld - he eventually died from an overdose... Will never forget how she cried at his death - also fotos of his father crying heart breakingly at the funeral... Drugs are dangerous... Elixir for worlds probs for a while but never the solution...

I loved this song, back in the day when I was "getting a nod on". I took some bad roads, but I survived, some how. I am 75 years old now, and methadone is the only way I can make it from one day to the next. Chasing Miss Morphia cost me a lot, but I still think about the perfection of the feeling every day. So, I came here to listen to this wonderful version of one of my fav RS songs. Instead, I found myself spending the better part of close to two hours reading the comments. In that time, and in all the words i read, and with the atmosphere and mood of the song, it's so eerie and sad that we live in a world that lacks compassion for our sisters and brothers who struggle daily with pain, addiction, and all the things that come with that package, whether it be homelessness, loneliness, the senseless loss of a husband or child or being excommunicated by friends and family and a healthcare system that regards little for the patient, while money is the real core of it's function. Some comments had me wandering back to the late 60's and early 70's when my close friends were being drafted into a war they didn't understand, or my high school friends that never made it back home. (I spent a moment to reflect on them in particular, so I'm grateful for the reminder). And, of course, those who served and gave so much of themselves, yet how are we serving them in return today? Respect for the kind and caring replies from people from all corners of the world who showed understanding and sent positive thoughts and kind words to those who really needed to hear them, or said "brother, you're not alone" and even a stranger who said "look me up, maybe I can help you". For sure, there is a kind of magic in a song that not only transports us back to another time....music truly is a universal language that can bring out the very best in us if we listen not only with ears, but with our hearts.

Yip. Had accident 30 years ago. Was two years before I could walk again without crutches among other problems but I was on a morphine pump for two months and then suddenly it was gone….. here I am all these years later after going to jail three times and overdose several times have lost all the people that mattered as the only thing that mattered was the next fix…. Even with treatment the addiction never leaves me…. It’s about the only thing I still have…. Life down the drain.. hospitals need to help patients with addiction before they sling us out the door. It’s no joke and as much as those that have never been addicted think it’s not about choosing the drugs…. It’s feeling like there’s no way to live without it…. Hate you opiates…

This is an awesome song, but it has a much much deeper meaning for those of us that have lived it, that's for certain!! I suppose there were times in the beginning where it really gave us a good feeling, but I can listen to this and feel 40+ years of pain in 6 minutes; all the shattered dreams, deaths of close friends and family members, and burnt relationships!! I'm able to make it with Methadone myself for the last twenty years, but even that has been far from a smooth sail because storms and tumultuous waves have still intermittently pounded the ship!! I am blessed to have the greatest understanding daughter!! Shout out to all those that are still struggling...

HAT(Heroin as a Treatment) over MAT(Methadone or Bupe). In England they use H in hospitals and they use H in clinics throughout Switzerland and Europe. Primary care physicians in Canada can now prescribe H. In th US they'd rather fill ur body up with opiates while at the same time perpetuating the destruction of endorphins. Just research it, HAT shows substantially more efficacy than MAT.

@@dannee3731 Depends on the dose they give you & why & how they are giving it . Lost my mom in 2002 after a 14 year struggle with lung cancer. In the final days they gave it it her as to ease her breathing & make her end of days more comfortable. It was never given to make her high but to simply ease the pain of dying. Much of this song is about a guy that according to Marianne Faithful who wrote the words to this was in a car crash & dying in the hospital while pleading for Morphine to ease his pain even though he & the staff know he won't survive. The words are pretty clear on why he is there & it's not cause he's an addict as they don't bleed to death as the final line says You can sit around and watch the clean white sheets stain red. Also in England nurses are referred to Sisters hence the name of the song. Morphine when used as it was with my & your mom helped them ease their struggle , but when used as Junk it's a terrible addiction that usually ends in death less your very lucky & can with help kick it. Like all narcotics they make you feel like your on top of the world but it's a false feeling as once you come down it's all comes back & you want more. I do speak from some experience as i have tried both Heroin & Morphine in the early 70's . Never again will i be so stupid but that was so long ago & i as a musician got roped into trying it as it was around & real. I did them both several times & it was enough to realize it would be like it it still is ,a dead end. Sorry to hear you lost your mom as i have done the same & we both know as do others that have been through this it's a bad thing with a worse outcome. On your real question it makes everyone feel good but it also is different with different people. If your hurt they give it to relieve these symptoms & they know death is around the corner but all cases are not the same. but those who take it as a get high drug are only trying to find an escape & that they do till it kills them or they get lucky enough to kick it. Fooling around with these drugs can only lead to misery & lost time. Wrote this song way before i lost my mom but for all the time i did lose during my Jr. & High School years playing with drugs. ua-cam.com/video/RHj04fFTrZI/v-deo.html

Man we have methadone in Europe, I bet the rules are even more easy to live with. I get mine by going once a week to the farmacy and get my medication for one week. I don't need to see a doctor, only when I think it is necessary I can go. I worked all my live as a secretary, went on abroad holidays with my husband and always took my medication with me. Got a kind of medication passport from the pharmacy where I go and so I could take my methadone with me in the airplane, over the borders and into Austria ( I am from The Netherlands) I know in Spain it is the same, rules are not so tight as in the US, one can get a maintenance dose or a tapering dose, you make the choise. I must say, I always got 30 mg and reduced it to 10 now, which was not so difficult for me, but everyone can decide his own rate. So it is a shame you did not get your new job and tried it over here. I hope you do get another change and take it, for I really really think you would be better of here. Anyway, whatever choice you make, have a great life.

My heart got broken too easily and thats what pushed me over the line.,,I am 65 now and you would think I would be ok. I guess I will keep fighting the good fight. I hope you keep up the good fight too. Love and light to you

I smoke marihuana every day that kept me away from a lot off other shit , I did cocaine never a problem I did crack scared the shit out off me ,the feeling and how short it was never did it again , I did methadon never did it again or had cravings for it , I got ADHD witch makes me easy addicted and a shitty childhood , alcoholism is big problem in my family that’s why I don’t,t drink . I,m not saying you should smoke weed now but it might help and it’s legal in lots of places now . I got a wife 2 lovely daughters a great job 2 dogs 3 cats 2 houses and always a big stash of marihuana in my house to keep me calm and chill , my life became pretty great and I truly thank marihuana for it , it’s so much better then Ritalin , concerta and other medical solutions. It’s proven in study,s that marihuana makes you less addicted to cocaine and other upper drugs .

OMG I own (I imagine) the exact same print by Ronnie Wood of Keith as you do. Mine is called, if I recall, Blue Smoke Keith?? (something Blue) I got it for my 40th birthday (my cash paid for it, mind you, hehe), and, in my opinion, it's the best work Ronnie has ever done. It's fabulous. I'm a huge Keith fan, so this painting has, actually, become my most favorite, prized possession. I love it.

It's a freeballin' world Daddy-O and I'm still looking to make my mark and exceed my goal of top 5 legacy personified. But you can't chase it cause you'll never catch it just like a fine woman. You gotta let her come to you and that's a hard trick to master. Ain't life grand sir !?! Good journey old buddy ,...........,.

@Ronnie Wood long time fan. No autograph. I use to sign lots of autographs for fans when I was a crew member in Nascar racing. I totally understand the marketing aspect. Chasing that almighty dollar. How about a badass Bentley or Rolls Royce with handwritten lyrics all over by you and the lads and your wore out jeans used to cover the interior seats mate. Now there's a real souvineir fit for a king or prince or wiseman rife with the splendored grandeur and trappings of the wildest imagination to possess exotic women and chambermaidens laden with lust for restless souls of conquered lands and treasure Royale. Keep your sail trimmed and your back to the wind.

I turned 50 last year and remember this song being the soundtrack of my youth & addiction.
I would've listen to it before I even would master English (give or take) so I barely have been able to understand lyrics hence I would hear what I'd wish to.
Heroin/opiates' charm is long gone while the song 'abides' and grows even more haunting and exhilarating with time.
