2022 Honda Civic Si - First Snow Drive (POV Binaural Audio)

- Let's take a snowy night drive in the Civic Si. Not a lot of snow this round, but still worth testing out the all seasons to see how they break away on a slick cold surface.

Snow footage just isnt the same without the good old E92.
i was just thinking that when i saw the title
I actually sold my old snow wheel/tires to the guy who bought my M3! Was cool to meet the new owner
Mann 😢
@@TedwardDrives dang
I think he made a video of why he did it. What's funny is that it's just down so frequently and needing repairs that he just doesn't get enough time driving it. So he went with a civic for more reliability but still fun.
I'm going to miss these SI videos. Seeing a normal car that I can afford driven and reviewed is just content gold. I'm not paying 75K for a Honda. Great video as usual.
What you paying 75k for then?
@Sam Screwed Not a Civic Type R. Great car, but I won't over pay that much for it, or any item.
The Type R is 75k??? 🤔
@@diallo1347 That wasn't the question but ok *lol*
@@PremiumUserUltra paid less for an R8 🙂
I think a cool video for you to possibly do would be to compare the Si and the Type R, and talk about which would be the better choice for a commoner who would use it as a daily driver and deals with 4 “true” seasons including heavy snow
Next on the list haha
Sorry the dealerships get to decide what a Type R goes for. And it’s no longer a commoner vehicle.
@@TedwardDrives please do an mpg comparison
Finally put down a deposit to get on the wait list for an Si. Your videos have played a huge part in my decision making!
Love watching your snow drive videos!
It's finally here. I've been waiting for this video for a while.
the reason why I started to follow this channel
Snow drives are so therapeutic
I remember the old Alfa 75 of my father. I used to "steal" It when It snowed, It was really fun!! Good video!! 👍🏼👍🏼
FINALLYYYY!!!! Snow Videos.
Good footages and a frank sharing if thoughts. Very appreciated.
Perfect timing on the video. Only had mine a couple of months now and been wondering how the all seasons will do in the snow. Usually get a fair amount here in Missouri. Also, I had a 95 maxima probably 20 years ago that was a blast in the snow with the hand break. You could perfectly control the slide.
Snow driving videos are my favorite! I wonder if you could fit a really small mirrorless camera with a wide lens on your head. That would be super cool in low light.
Great video. Another reason to make sure the roof on your car is completely clean of snow is to prevent, as the car is warming up and the snow on the roof melts a little bit, the snow sliding forward off your roof onto the windshield as you brake, suddenly inhibiting your ability to see what’s in front of you. Probably not so much of an issue with light fluffy stuff as it would likely blow off before it could become and issue, but i’ve definitely seen it happen with heavier stuff around where i live in Canada.
I remember the M3 content with the Wintrac Pro tires, those videos were good! Your review was the reason why I have the Wintrac Pro tires for my winter set on my WRX now! Looking forward to the Civic and Type-R compare and contract content!
I was about to look up exactly the title of this video and turns out you just uploaded it 😂
My Prelude with all seasons always amazes me in the winter. 6-7inches max
I love using my leaf blower when my car has light snow like that on it. So quick and satisfying.
Amazing videos always! Can't wait for the CTR!
I'm so excited! Should be next week.
Just what I was wondering!
That famous Honda wheel hop at 8:27 gave me flashbacks! Love a nice night snow drive.
oh that’s what that was 😭 I was like what the
Fwd is still fwd at the end of the day no matter how much honda fanboys delude themselves 😂😂
I really love your snow videos please do more this winter!!!!👍👍
I got caught in my 8th gen SI in the storm Sunday night - the roads were completely untreated! Slid sideways down a hill and two other cars slid into me, luckily extremely minor damage… got very lucky overall.
Wish we got snow more often down here, i would love to be able to drive in the snow 😩
Great video! More people need to hear this. Nobody with there fancy awd mom suv understands just because you can accelerate quickly does not necessarily mean you can brake quickly.
I moved from Utah to Florida this year and I do not miss brushing snow off of my car in the winter haha
Your point about "just because the road has been treated where you are doesn't mean it has been a hundred feet ahead" is exactly the experience I had in my only ever accident. Also, SUVs can flip at speeds as low as 25 mph.
Yikes! What were you driving?
@@TedwardDrives 2003 Chevy Trailblazer
Nothing will beat the OG E92 m3 winter vid
Hi Tedward, small advice from a guy that live in a place where snow is there 7 months in a year (Québec), before opening the door, just remove all the snow covering the door fences, no snow on the seat guaranteed 😉 Also close the door before starting the car to be sure the wipers will not auto-start and shove all that snow inside, happened to me a few time 😂
Gonna miss the SI videos
looks like a fun daily driver
i'm a nokian hakka kinda guy and FWD does the job exceptionally well in snow stormy weather up here in Quebec
I love how much you enjoy those wipes. 😂
Snow on the seat is why I wipe the top of the door with my sleeve before opening it.
It was the first snow. I forgot 😭
My 2018 Si was a blast to drive in the snow. With snow tires at least! Was terrible with the eagle sports.. Had blizaks on steels.
Parked mine for the winter and bought a 2010 civic for the messy NewEngland roads. The solution they use here is brutal on vehicles.
For a civic I think you should also try the Continental WinterContact TS860, I’ve had very good experiences with those in any winter or snow conditions! (But I think the TS870 are now available)
I literally can't wait for Type-R POV's
I saw it today :)
I'm in Quebec so we get a ton of snow here. My Si is on brand new Michelin X-Ice Snow and even with these tires I find the car tends to break traction really easily in deep snow, sometimes it's downright sketchy. That's where the FWD drivetrain really show its limits. But that's pretty much the only negative thing I've had to say about this car so far, and I've had it for almost 8 months.
Have you even gotten stuck? I live in Ottawa and drive to QC often
Protip.. you can minimize the snow falling into your car by sweeping the top of the doors before opening them.
In a snowy parking lot, my old manual hatchback lets you left foot brake while you floor the gas pedal into a turn. This gets you oversteer which you can cancel by letting off the brake and pointing the front wheels where you want to go under throttle. It's super fun for carving figure 8s around light posts. There's also no stability control to interrupt your fun and a manual handbrake for the 180 turns. These new school FWD cars with traction control, no manual handbrake, and software which probably cuts throttle if you're simultaneously on the brakes don't seem as fun.
You can just fully disable the TC on an Si, with FWD cars you can often just turn in really aggressively and then back it off and the rear will swing around when the front grips
where i go to school in eastham it snowed a tiny bit due to the wind pushing it from worcester
Just got this car yesterday. I can't stop driving it. It's the slowest sports car I've ever owned, and I could care less. The gearbox, grip, seating position, infotainment, moonroof, blazing orange color, bulletproof build are off the charts good. Great job Honda.
I thought I was weird for liking the windshield wiping of the powdered snow.
I highly recommend checking out Tyre Reviews testing for winter tires and “performance” winter tires. The Wintrac Pro are good but a lot of tires have surpassed their performance
I was just watching an old M3 vs blizzard video, and had a thought "WILL THERE BE ANY MORE WINTER DRIVE VIDEOS? D:"
AWD + Winters and you’re basically unstoppable 99.98% of the time on the road. I want smth like an si or a mazda 3 hatch w the 6 speed but I just can’t let AWD go. It’s too much fun in the winter. Literally nothing at the 25-30k range with FWD comes with a handbrake anymore smh.
You can get a Mazda 3 with AWD as long as you’re willing to give up the turbo, other than that look at A/S3’s
don’t have to give up turbo with mazda 3 turbo awd🤷♂️
@@loganamurray64 yea but Audi is Audi it’ll always be more expensive to maintain. The NA awd 3’s are what I’m kinda settling on. Or an AWD Camry. Something that can survive 8-10ish years.
@@rohanm54 Fair enough. One of my friends parent's owns a Mazda 3 with the 2.5, automatic and AWD, great car. I'd imagine an AWD Camry would be just as good or maybe even better if you want the space
I use a good brush, and wrap a nice clean microfiber around it. Only do the windows though, I'm so crazy about keeping my paint nice I don't dare touch the paint with a snow brush. I will often hit the car wash down the road and blow off the snow, while getting a wash at the same time. I really hate that the newer civics don't have a traditional hand brake. Being FF I like knowing I can correct it if needed with the handbrake. Now with the electronic brakes it kinda sucks.
ive never seen that much snow in my life and bro goes "not a lot"
Have some Vredenstein Wintrac Pro -1s on my 2022 Si. They’ve been great so far.
Would love to see your thoughts on Elantra N and GR Corolla.
I live in Dallas and we consider that a lot of snow lol 😅
It’s pretty insane the US spec models have no heated seats
Lol didn’t I just comment on this? Dealership called today and mine was delivered. My next day off is Thursday and we’re expecting up to 8 inches of snow so it’s gonna stay at the dealer a few more days 😂😂
Aww but I love seeing the snow flying off my car when I pull away quickly 🤣
You should get a rwd car just for these winters. Imma miss seeing the m3 :(
Nice
Dude, Ted.. You gotta clean the snow around the door frame!!
Love your content!! Your SI videos played a big part in buying an 11th Gen SI earlier this year. Huge fan 👍👌
How much did you get yours for? I called a dealer yesterday that was near me. They wanted $37,771 For a 2024 civic SI.the MSRP is currently $29,100. That’s about 30% markup.
@@jaydendavis6753 yikes... 22's retailed for $28k - I paid a $1,500 mark up (Michigan)
im happy here we gets heated steering and seats in winter lol
I have a rental right now and the cheap chinese tires were so bad ABS was kicking in and the tires were spinning. So I got a Camry rental with new tires until I get my car back with some good tires for the winter😂
my Celica and snow means looooot of fun
I think you drove wrong car for this weather but i like POV snow drives so it's ok
Ted, love your videos. I'm on the fence. I want to either get an Elantra N or a Civic SI. Whats your recommendation?
I'm dreading my first snow day since I'm on pirelli all seasons still. Luckily i'm in maryland so i can just decide to not leave the house lol
I'd love a two door si
here in england everyone uses all season tyres no matter the weather
...well, warm and raining, raining, and cold and raining are pretty much the same. Such is life on an island. 🏁
Got my si late Nov. Has winter tires now and it's been wonderful. Live in Canada so I have the better version haha :P I usually wipe off snow around My door first with my sleeve before I open it so I don't get any on the seats. I've noticed it takes a little bit to warm up but that's OK. It handles wonderfully. I have a temp gauge on mine.
does the Canadian version have command start?
The dealer in Auburn told me my Type R is getting delivered tonight. Yours should be soon I imagine.
They said 18-22nd. Fingers crossed
This is where the WRX reigns supreme, inclement weather conditions
Honestly throw some winter tires on the si and you won't notice much of an advantage with awd until the snow gets heavier
@@BaldKiwi117nd some people live in areas that gets real deep snow. Not everyone lives in Cali 😂
Hell even in rainy days, fwd cars still wheel hop like crazy 😂😂 fwd is still fwd at the end. Not as capable as awd to tackle all weather and not as fun as rwd in dry asphalt
@@WitchYuki22 thanks captain obvious. I live in Michigan and snow tires on my civic have been fine.
@BaldKiwi117 obviously it's not obvious to you. You think a performance FWD car is just as capable in snow as a performance AWD car.
Imagine buying a performance car to drive daily that you can only push half the year 😂😂
@@WitchYuki22 your reading comprehension is obviously sub part. No, I don't think it's just as capable as awd. I said snow tires on fwd is fairly capable until the snow gets heavier but go off and create your own narrative to make yourself sound smart, captain obvious.
Also, outside of the type R, I'd never call a civic a "performance car" lmao.
That's odd the Si isn't equipped with a temperature guage. My 22' Touring displays the engine temperature aswell as outside vehicle temperature in celcius or F*. Mine is canadian model & also has rear heated seats and fog lights
Very noice
Would you say a WRX would have performed any better on a day like this? Thoughts with and without winter tires?
I like SI and trying to get one but live in Midwest and was wondering if symmetrical AWD is recommended and sort of on d fence.
Do you have any other cars you could take out in the snow? I know you are definitely not talking out the 911 so maybe the the E39?
my integra did good, even with the crappy all seasons
Miss the e92 m3. Snow footage isn’t the same without it😢
There will be more rwd and awd snow drives. Don’t worry bud
Using snow to learn my vehicles limits (safely) was invaluable to me as a driver
Hey just bought this car in the summer because of you, anyway I have found out how to fully turn off traction control through a cheat code lol. But do you know it?
Man, I hate the fact that new civics come in with electric brakes! But then again, it allows me to keep my foot off the brakes on stop lights...Which is really nice! And although it feels wrong at first, trust me, once you get used to it, you realize just how much it sucks to hold your own breaks like a peasant.
This is where it must hurt somewhere deep down to be out of the BMW
tedward: I can't get the car sideways
me: just pull the handbrake... oh wait :(
Guys I just realized, on snowy nights, keep your snow brush in the house so that way you can brush off the car in the morning BEFORE opening your door. That way your seats stay dry.
The one thing that makes me kinda regret getting an SI over a WRX is a manual hand brake.
Because honda fanboys never criticized honda for making numb sporty cars nowadays
topher got the type r before you lol i’d love to see you guys race your type rs
They were shipped from Japan to California and the cars are traveling across the country. I'm the east coast so logically I get my car last.
what camera do you use to film your night POV drives?
Are you satisfied with the headlights?
Ah yes, the rear defroster, one of those features where a real button is better than capacitive
7:10 I drive a Fd1 2008 Civic (absolutely stock base spec). I was wondering what the handbrake in this particular car so I just pulled it going about 10km/h in a dirt carpark. The thing just beeps at you to tell you the handbrake is on and that's it unfortunately
Tighten that bad boy up
I was considering putting the Vredesteins on my OE wheels and running them in winter just for peace of mind. But I live in GA so that’s basically a waste of money lol.
If you’re in the mountains and it gets below freezing it can’t hurt to have a softer compound
@@TedwardDrives I’m about 30 miles south of the mountains but it doesn’t snow any more than average here compared to the rest of metro Atlanta. I run the G Max RS year round and I like how well they stand up to rain and cold. I figured if we get snow and have to go somewhere, we’ll take my wife’s car since she has Firestone LE3s that can handle snow a bit better than other all seasons.
I’ve noticed an issue in my SI where water and snow are very prone to fall into the cabin when the door is opened. I know that’s possible with any vehicle, but it does seem more common to me in this car. Have you noticed it to be more common with your civic?
that is with any car. Is it that hard to just remove the snow from around the door edges?
0:04 the car looks like its floating. Only me? Okay.
How stiff does the Si get in the winter compared to the summer? Is it noticeably stiffer?
Yes it’s a pretty noticeable difference with the shocks and the transmission.
😊👍🏼
Are you driving in sport mode?
to whoever is reading this i hope all of you have an exquisite rest of your day, and get your dream car fr!
When will the CTR be upon us? I see Topher already got his
Next week. They shipped from California so Michigan got theirs before arriving here on east coast
@@TedwardDrives I bet you’re so excited!!!
No heated seats man 😭
is it 2022 or 2023 civic SI?
Shocked there is no outside temp gage- anyone know if the integra has one?
It has an outside temp gauge. I showed it in the video. There is no water temp gauge however.
@@TedwardDrives understood. Enjoy your videos!
So much better at night than that EQS. Respect for road conditions? Whaaa...Ohio-ans don't believe in this concept (nor do Texans). Heated seats? ....oh, never mind, those got moved to the Integra 😔. I guess the only good thing about a basic Si, is that it is more ready for (extensive) modification and you are actually replacing basic parts with better parts.
Do you think one day Honda will make an electric Civic or abandon it when the EV switch takes place?
I think the Civic brand is a staple of honda...I cannot imagine they ever abandon it. It will eventually go EV im sure along with the rest of the line up.
@@TedwardDrives Thanks for the opinion! I fully agree with you. Its their famous sporty family car and they surely cant do without it. Looking forward to more videos of yours as always :)
