Does that tune void the warranty? Honda does get nit picky when you do light mods to it. Back in 2010 I LS swapped my 08 s2000, blew the head gasket and they were like "no, we can't cover something like that". I understand why, as the wheels were still stock.
@@simonpeters4525 a lot of economy manufactures do that, most of the time dealerships won't really scan the ECU if you flash it back if you don't have a ton of mods
@@MrCriminalmischief it’s illegal for them to void a warranty if they can not prove that the tune caused the failure. And even if they could prove it it will not void you over all warranty it would just be the drive train. So everything else unrelated to drive train is still covered.
FYI: The tendency of the steering to center itself (ie: the car to go straight) under heavy throttle can be used to verify that the Honda dealer hasn't screwed up your alignment. If the rear toe angles are not equal, then the wheel won't center to straight. If you ever get an alignment, make sure to check the rear toe angles.
I just drove my friends 2019 SI the other day. It was fun, I’m not very good at driving manual but the clutch and shifter were very smooth and felt really good actually. Was fun to row my own for a bit.
The way you explained how front wheel drive can be a blast and people should show more love instead of hate couldn’t have been said better. Love your videos man. Thank you for the content!
And less flashy, don’t forget about the styling of last two Type-R’s. I’m also sad it’s not gonna be sold in europe and only Civic we will get is hybrid with e-cvt and probably Type-R. Instead of it I would prefer some “warm hatch” which has actually the genes of old hot hatches, before they all started to have 300-400 hp. Although i understand that the market for this type of cars is pretty narrow and after all manufacturers will do what’s profitable.
I know we are nearing the end of combustion engines but its really easy to forget when new amazing options like this and now the GR corolla show up, enthusiast culture is still very much alive :)
There won’t be enough energy or battery production to sustain the entire market on electric cars. Combustion-powered cars will be around a bit longer, I think
Gasoline might be in its twilight Years, but there's other sources as well Hydrogen combustion seems like it might be a good solution. Toyota and Yamaha is building a high reving beast of a v8. As good as EV'S will be, there's no way om this planet they can mine enough lithium, nickel, cobalt just to make batteries. In the u.s alone there are about 290 million vehicles.
I wasnt stoked at first that you traded your M# for a civic si..... however, I have realized something while watching the video. I realized that Honda still understands its customers. While everyone else has moved away from producing light, manual, fun to drive cars, Honda hasn't. What other sports sedan other than the m3 has a manual these days? Also, I love how Honda keeps things simple. They know their customers want a decently quick car that is reliable, fun, and simple to use. That is exactly what Honda gave them. My respect for the civic and Honda as a whole has just gone way up.
Appreciate that you can understand this. Most people see the glamour and reputation of some fancier cars but the experience is the only thing that matters
VW GLI also offers a manual, along with more power, heated seats, cooled seats, a longer warranty, and a few other amenities that the Si lacks. Si may still be the better car, but it's close. Si is more fun. GLI is more comfortable.
I exactly know what you mean, man. I will miss my STI, but my Forte GT gives me a fun commute/canyon run/errands and less stress from constant repairs. It's refreshing.
Just got the 22 SI. Has the heart of my old Z, soul of my 328ci. Perfect daily driver and always makes me smile when I drive it. Also costs $30 to fill up and go 375 miles... Good luck getting that in the new WRX
I’m really pleasantly surprised at what Honda has done with this generation Civic. You made a great choice for a fun but sensible daily! I do agree though, some quieter tires with a little more grip would suit the car well. It would be interesting to see a comparison between the current tires and whatever you choose to replace them with.
Highly recommend the Michelin Pilot Spirt 4S A/S if you stick (pun intended) with all seasons. Outstanding tire, and not far off the grip of summer tires.

I put black badges and a strut bar on my si. The strut bar really helps feeling smoother when turning. The black badges look amazing, cannot wait to finish breaking mine in.
You're making me want one of these, which I never would have expected. I had a 2000 Civic Si that got stolen, and decided I was done with Hondas forever. But this looks like it could be a good successor to my Fiesta ST, if and when I decided to move on from it.
That's the problem with Hondas. Within a week of the first 2022 models landing in my neighbourhood, a blue one was stolen. Honestly part of that is most likely due to my neighbourhood being a sort of mecca for street racers ever since the 90s which causes a halo effect that increases the already high theft risk of anything with a Honda badge, specifically the Civic.
LOL I had a 328d F31 and am waiting in-line for an Si. The last line you made there about the M3 was "what's that noise? and will it cost me $2500?" I agree completely. My 328d had -gasp- 156K miles on it when I dumped it, and all I was doing was constant religious maintenance. My neighbors only ever saw me working on the BMW in the garage up on Quckjacks. Nightmare fuel. Love the videos!
Love your choice of the 2022 Si tedward Look into the "peddle dance" for the 10th gen si.. its cross compatible to the 11th gen. Autocrossers use it to truly disable the traction control and stability control if you wanna have some fun with it without the nannies stepping in

I love my '22 Si! It's my adult and "responsible" fun car. Tons of fun, light clutch and the rev match makes for easy stop and go commuting all while as you noted, getting 37+ mpgs! Glad to have found your review and see that you're loving yours as much as I love mine! Cheers!
@@gsjunior514 on road trips (fill up, drive freeway, fill up) I can net 40-41mpg at 68 ish mph. Combined I'm seeing approximately 32/33mpg. If I drive like a hoonigan I get 28-29 mpg. It's pretty inline with EPA ratings, but the freeway mpg is better by 2 or 3. Running 91 octane exclusively per manual.
Tedward, you've made the right decision ditching the m3 for all the reasons you've mentioned. You're having more fun in the Si and at the end of the day, that's what matters the most.
As someone who’s recently bought a modern car(with the reverse camera), I feel you It’s an instinct to put your hand on the passenger headrest and finesse a reverse, but the reverse camera really does make things tremendously easy and makes parking precise
My Impreza is the newest car I've ever owned and has a reverse camera. It took me a couple months to get used to the camera. Now I can use it, but I still do the traditional look back and reverse because the Impreza has such good visibility for a 2020 car. (It's a hatchback.)
That double on-ramp is the greatest stretch of innocuous race track I've ever seen. My dealership used to have two good visibility highly drift-able loops around a bridge but it was in town so you couldn't get up tp 88mph on the straight without losing your license. It did have a straight adjacent into an industrial area with an empty donut friendly a cul de sac though. A lot of fun cars were sold going sideways around that bridge.
I just traded in my two year old ‘22 Mazda3 Turbo for the ‘24 Si and couldn’t be happier and for all the reasons you cited in your video. Sure the Mazda3 was more luxurious and even a bit more powerful, but its lack of manual, LSD, good gas mileage (was getting 19-20 which is way less than its promised 27mpg), and their terrible choice to go with a torsion beam suspension all led me to losing joy in driving. All of my previous cars before the Mazda were Si’s and the RSX Type-S and made me realize how much Honda still understands the driver experience. Hopefully they will continue to do so in the future.
I love watching this video. I had a 04 honda civic si as my first car. I had it for 12 years and 220,000 miles later traded it in for a larger crv. I missed a Manual all the time. sold the crv and now getting back to a 2023 civic si. I can't wait to drive mine!
There's something to be said for being able to use all or most of the performance of a given car pretty much whenever you want. I like the new SI and I think you made a good choice, Tedward. Enjoy it!
I’m no Honda expert, but from what I know about how some (hopefully all) manufacturers do things when it comes to start stop, the car logs everything from exterior temperature, engine temperature (coolant, probably oil temperature too), battery level, interior temperature/AC setting and so on. Plus keep in mind that the car doesn’t completely shut off, it keeps most systems up and running (and yes that includes part of or the complete cooling system, depending on if you have a mechanical or electrical water pump or both). Basically, what I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t worry about it, the car should start the engine if the temperatures start to creep up after it automatically shut off, that is if the Start Stop would even shut off in the first place.
You most def. need to worry about it! - The hesitation to accelerate is horrible and dangerous. - The added complexity only means more issues later - The built "stronger" components such as the starter, battery etc means higher costs to replace and larger batteries in landfills. - Annoying to always push a stupid button. Needs to be off by default AND the dash light should be off IF the system is off, not the other way around.
@@Cre8tive81 well, as a mechanic, i partly disagree. Yeah, the start stop can be annoying, especially if it is a particularly “aggressive system” that shuts down the engine before you even come to a full stop and some more wear is some what expected, although marginal. The way most start stop systems “shut off the engine” is so that one of the pistons is right there ready for it’s combustion stroke, right before one cylinder is ready to fire, making it easier to start the engine back up, which means less wear on the starter compared to when you manually start it. I have written more about the 4 stroke engine cycle below in case you aren’t familiar with it. Furthermore the start stop systems usually monitor engine temps and should not “activate” unless the engine is up to working temperature, at working temperature the oil should be at its optimal viscosity, plus the fact that the engine have been warmed up and oil has gotten to where it needs to be in the engine, so that most of the engine should be lubed up better than when you first start it, which also means less wear on the internals. As i said above the increased wear on engine with start stop is marginal, if the system is made and runs correctly. Although I agree that it can be annoying and I also understand that some find it more annoying that others. But the great thing with a manual car with start stop is that you can decide yourself when you want it or not, by not putting the car in neutral for shorter stops and in my own experience with a start stop systems that starts the engine back up when the clutch is pressed down, it shouldn’t be too annoying as the engine should have started before or during the time it takes to put it in first gear. The 4 stroke principle, “first stroke” piston goes down pulls in air, “second stroke” piston goes up compresses the air and fuel gets added, “third stroke” the combustion stroke the spark plug (or compression in Diesel engines) ignite air fuel mixture which forces the piston down, “4th and final stroke” exhaust stroke is where the piston pushes out the remaining gasses (and sometimes unburnt fuel) out the exhaust. And then the cycle repeats.
@@Cre8tive81 I totally agree this feature should be off and you have to turn it on for it to work. 99% of the reviews you read on line are people hating this stupid feature. Even worse is not having the option of not getting it on the cars today----just reeks.
I bought a 2 door 2014 civic SI awhile back and it is by far my favorite car I’ve ever owned. It handles incredibly well and with my tune and modifications it makes it even more if a blast than it already was from factory. And don’t even get me started on the shifter. I had to daily my 3rd gen TL type S m/t for a few months and I gotta admit it that it became my favorite car ever. Perfect for backroads and traveling around the southwest US
I decided on my MK7.5 GTI for many of the same reasons. You can have fun without drawing attention and mixed driving still averages you 28-29 MPG at the pump. With regards to the auto start/stop, this car keeps the fan/pump on - though I'm not sure it's the same for the civic. I still don't use it though because it's too jerky.

The si is just a blast. It’s got some good power, amazing cornering, and also not bad on your wallet when it comes to filling up. Be careful of lift oversteer, that helical LSD will lock grip the front and let the back end slide, usually at over 100mph on a corner ;)

10:55 You're absolutely right about auto stop/start on a turbo car. Last thing I want is to cook the turbo and immediately shut off the car. There's an electric pump circulating the oil while the engine's off.
I had a Honda Civic once. I bought it used. Very used. Very cheap. Basic sedan, not even an Si. It wasn't fast, however, taking it to the rev limit was surprisingly entertaining (5 speed manual). I found out that it can oversteer in a turn. I was playing around on an on ramp and accelerated a bit more than I should have causing it to start oversteering. It was raining, and it needed new tires. My first reaction was to lift off the accelerator, which caused lift throttle oversteer, so I was back on the accelerator, but lightly. Got through that okay. Fun little POS. After six months of driving it, it quit working. The problem wasn't Honda quality, but many miles (300k+) and poor maintenance. Passenger side front door I had to secure with a bungee cord, or it would swing open during left turns. Couldn't operate the passenger side rear door either. Climate controls were nearly non-functional. It was a fun six months, though. Certainly changed my mind about small Japanese cars. I now have a 2017 Mazda MX-5. I've recommended the Si to someone looking for an affordable car that was fun to drive but a little more practical than a 2 seat roadster.
My 2022 Civic Si shares garage space with a 21 Type R LE and a 2019 Acura NSX. At first I was underwhelmed with the Si, but the more I drive it the more fun I find it because of its low limits. Compared to the Type R it is way less hardcore but I used to find the Type R more fun than the NSX because you didn’t have to push it as hard to enjoy it, now I think the Si is kind of more enjoyable than even the R for that exact same reason. My gripes with it are, the shifter is not nearly as good as the R and I am surprised that the ride isn’t a little smoother than it is. Unlike the R, I actually don’t mind the fake engine noise in the Si….. they’ve tuned it far better now so it doesn’t sound so digitally enhanced
@@histlechif4901 I bought the Type R LE because I had an opportunity to purchase it at a really good price and I had owned a Boost Blue 21’ CTR that I sold for more money than I paid for it so it just made sense at the time, however, I quickly found out that the LE actually didn’t drive as well for daily commuting as the regular Touring CTR and it seems like the majority of LE’s have next to no miles on them. So basically I bought the Si to daily drive and may just have it replace the LE altogether, still deciding
@@jameswillard1 Well if you do end up selling the type r you'll probably end up selling it for more than you paid again. Have you heard about the new Gr Corolla? I think that could make a great suitable replacement.

I'm so happy for you! I used to own a 10th gen civic si for 3 years, which taught me so much about driving a FWD car. Though not as fine-tuned as the 11gen probably, that chassis was already sublime, with the wonderful turn-in, great adjustability mid-corner and guaranteed traction at corner exit from that LSD. Your review makes me really interested in getting the new integra as a daily driver, since it might be a quieter and nicer version of the SI.

I have a 2002 BMW 540I and its a fun car but breaks all the time. I had a 1990 Porsche 911 (964) for 15 years and loved every minute with it but the reliability of Honda and fun of this next generation Civic that is bullet proof is VERY tempting to buy for me. Great review and enjoy the car.
The 10th and 11th gen are lovely things. I've been beating the piss out of my 2018 for 70k miles and it just loves it, and so do I. It's been comfortable, reliable, fun and practical.
Now what the car needs are deep dish wheels, lowering springs, a big splitter and canards, a big aftermarket rear wing and an anime wrap on the side! Stupid joke aside, but i never appreciated those 200hp sporty daily driver enough. But the more i see the more i like those. I wish i could try the Si once it comes to the EU.

Interesting, I’ve never thought about the start/stop in relation to cooling the turbo. I would always turn it off in my old F30 328i, as I tried to do everything to prolong the life of the timing chain guides on that garbage N20. The point you made about continuing cooling the turbo is just another reason to leave the engine on.
I'm not sure but these might have a circulating pump that keeps going a bit after turning the car off ? Either way idling for a bit after hard driving (1-2min) is probably not a bad idea. Start/stop is shit no matter what car its in tho.

After watching many EV and ICE car reviews, I've noticed that there are two main themes: the driving experience itself and how the car as a tool influences your lifestyle. I think the second is much more important for most consumers. EVs seem to be moving in the direction of making the process of going from A to B seamless while legacy manufactures are still attempting to please car enthusiasts with every car design. We will see which strategy works but I think there is a large difference, which we should not blend, between a daily driver and a car you can enjoy in select areas on the weekend.
@@shahrukhbakar3248 it can be tuned out. for older ones, you need to get hondata and I assume there is or will be a way to fix the rev hang on this gen pretty cheaply.
I didn't drive the car but that rev hang seems like it would really annoy me. Is there any reason for that? Is clutch electronically controlled or something?
Rev hang is engineered into cars for emissions. When the throttle snaps shut it causes small noxious particles to be emitted. But slowing that closing process it’s cleaner. It can be tuned out
@@TedwardDrives thank god. That lag wouldn't satisfy me one bit to be honest. By the way do you think fake engine noise is acceptable? I think those should be also tuned out or simply removable and make a less restrictive, more enjoyable exhaust instead.
Perfectly put man!!! I feel like we are in the minority when it comes to our unique interaction and joy with a vehicle or vehicles! Vehicles that come in all different types of drivetrains with their unique and therefore entertaining driving dynamics. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know each and every car, it's personality and most importantly, at least initially, how they communicate to you, as it builds up to it's limit and THEN eventually, exceeding it's level of grip (sometimes progressively, sometimes not so much, and sometimes it's completely inconsistent) Either way, without geeking out too much with weight transfers, driving style, etc. I just wanted to thank you for speaking my language and basically confirming that I'm not that crazy to love taking a car to it's limits, and sometimes past, and if the limit can be reached at legal speeds, all the BETTER!!👍👍

The rev-hang on the SI can be reduced with an aftermarket tune. It does make it feel a bit more responsive when upshifting.
Does that tune void the warranty?
Honda does get nit picky when you do light mods to it. Back in 2010 I LS swapped my 08 s2000, blew the head gasket and they were like "no, we can't cover something like that".
I understand why, as the wheels were still stock.
@@MrCriminalmischief classic Honda. Light modifications voiding the warranty😐
@@simonpeters4525 a lot of economy manufactures do that, most of the time dealerships won't really scan the ECU if you flash it back if you don't have a ton of mods
Who Is the aftermarket Mod from Hondata?
Practice makes perfect. You'll be able to shift better as time goes by.
I love that gen of Si
Keep practicing :) I learned how to drive manual in my 17' Si. I still miss it.
Honda has that special touch. I can't explain but nothing beats the feel of a Honda.
The way you explained how front wheel drive can be a blast and people should show more love instead of hate couldn’t have been said better. Love your videos man. Thank you for the content!
I wasn't expecting the RWD vs FWD comparison but it was welcomed.
I wish the Honda Civic Si is a global trim level for Honda Civics, especially for those who want a sporty vehicle but less expensive than a Type R.
Although i understand that the market for this type of cars is pretty narrow and after all manufacturers will do what’s profitable.
isn't Si called type-s outside of America? Don't really know but I think it's that

There won’t be enough energy or battery production to sustain the entire market on electric cars. Combustion-powered cars will be around a bit longer, I think
Gasoline might be in its twilight Years, but there's other sources as well
Hydrogen combustion seems like it might be a good solution.

Exactly why the Si and GR86/BRZ are on my list for my next vehicle.
Elantra N has a manual.
Love it, as an e92 owner I can confirm that the civic is the best daily driver to have fun with! Congrats again Tedward.

What strut bar did you use?
Love it! I ordered mine in March and I can't wait to drive it, this will be my first brand new car also. I enjoy your content, thumbs up man.
When I first started seeing the 2022 Civics on the road, I thought it was the new Audi A3. They look very similar first glance. Great car.
I was so surprised seeing this, first time a civic actually looks good and not overstyled
Love your choice of the 2022 Si tedward
Look into the "peddle dance" for the 10th gen si.. its cross compatible to the 11th gen. Autocrossers use it to truly disable the traction control and stability control if you wanna have some fun with it without the nannies stepping in
Love seeing you drive the Civic SI the way it should be driven! 😎
I thought this was going to be another boring POV video but I really felt like I was in the driver's seat going though those curves, driving the way I like to take corners.
I love my '22 Si! It's my adult and "responsible" fun car. Tons of fun, light clutch and the rev match makes for easy stop and go commuting all while as you noted, getting 37+ mpgs! Glad to have found your review and see that you're loving yours as much as I love mine! Cheers!
realistically what is MPG like in the city? or in traffic?
@@gsjunior514 on road trips (fill up, drive freeway, fill up) I can net 40-41mpg at 68 ish mph. Combined I'm seeing approximately 32/33mpg. If I drive like a hoonigan I get 28-29 mpg. It's pretty inline with EPA ratings, but the freeway mpg is better by 2 or 3. Running 91 octane exclusively per manual.
Tedward, you've made the right decision ditching the m3 for all the reasons you've mentioned. You're having more fun in the Si and at the end of the day, that's what matters the most.
As someone who’s recently bought a modern car(with the reverse camera), I feel you
It’s an instinct to put your hand on the passenger headrest and finesse a reverse, but the reverse camera really does make things tremendously easy and makes parking precise
Just finished break in on my BRZ yesterday and I can not stay away from redline now.
Call me crazy but the pumped in engine sound adds a nice little ambience
I love watching this video. I had a 04 honda civic si as my first car. I had it for 12 years and 220,000 miles later traded it in for a larger crv. I missed a Manual all the time. sold the crv and now getting back to a 2023 civic si. I can't wait to drive mine!
There's something to be said for being able to use all or most of the performance of a given car pretty much whenever you want. I like the new SI and I think you made a good choice, Tedward. Enjoy it!
Im currently also waiting on a 22 civic si. Currently first on dealer list. This video pushed me over the edge, thanks for making it. Im so excited
- The added complexity only means more issues later
- The built "stronger" components such as the starter, battery etc means higher costs to replace and larger batteries in landfills.

Never driven a type R so I can’t compare but to I would take mine over any other manual shifter I’ve ever used
Those SI's were fun, zippy, good mpg, and more reliable without the turbo. Long live naturally aspirated engines.

I thought that comment was stupid as well. Trust me, you can melt the front tires quite easily with 200HP and a manual transmission. Dry or wet.

The si is just a blast. It’s got some good power, amazing cornering, and also not bad on your wallet when it comes to filling up. Be careful of lift oversteer, that helical LSD will lock grip the front and let the back end slide, usually at over 100mph on a corner ;)

It's absolutely insane how big the Civic has gotten over the years.
yea too big
Curious as to why you would buy a type r and si? Is the si your winter beater?

I'm so glad you got this car. I've been thinking about it. I already have a type R though. I think I might go toyota 86. Too expensive though as I'm still paying my CTR

Start/stop is shit no matter what car its in tho.
another point: your engine looses oil pressure every time you stop it. starting it over and over in an urban environment surely can't be healthy...
@@fromage4204 I could be wrong, but most cars with a start/stop feature are sophisticated enough to prevent issues like the starter going out. I can't say for sure regarding the whole technicality behind it. I'd prefer leaving it off, regardless
@@mehsomething oil pressure has nothing to do with the starter motor... Any engine looses oil pressure when shut off and needs a few seconds on startup to build it back up...
The rev hang looks absolutely atrocious. Great car otherwise!
yea to me it’s the only really negative thing
luckily it's pretty easy to fix
@@georgesteffey8375 what’s the best way?
@@shahrukhbakar3248 it can be tuned out. for older ones, you need to get hondata and I assume there is or will be a way to fix the rev hang on this gen pretty cheaply.
I see these cars on the road all the time, always kinda wondered what they were like inside the cockpit. I think you made a good choice Teddy
feel like im the only that actually enjoys the fake engine sound 😭
I also quite enjoy it. On some cars it sounds horrible but on the more recent ones I love it
Congrats on the new ride man. I daily a 2020 Si coupe. Like the car, hate the rev hang. It's horrendous.
The foot clap in the beginning was nostalgic 😂 I haven't done that in quite some time since I've had trucks with all weather mats. Looking at an Si for a new job that'll have a commute. This video is well done.
What you said about simple and reliable is why I ended up ditching a higher performance car for the miata I just grabbed. The miata is practically brand new and I just get to drive and enjoy it with basic maintenance. Love it
congrats on the new car :) , glad you found what you were looking for, the civic looks like a blast to drive :)
I fall more in love with the new civic si everyday guys. Can’t wait for buy mine
I’ve watched all your videos about the si now I owned one. Thank you!
Thanks for confirming the Si has amber rear turn signals at 0:47 - much safer than all red and should be mandated here.
Slowly becoming my favorite UA-cam channel, not every often will I turn on post notifications
Calling a 200 hp car "low powered" makes me wanna cry in my 78 hp 1.2 liter hatchback.
This Civic? It is such a size that It could eat late 80's Si's from when I was in High School.
Honda has always made 4-bangers sound interesting
