Unfortunate to have to cut back on the Radar Love, but this list is cool. I knew all of these bar a baker's dozen or so,and they bring back so many happy, fuzzy memories for me as a 9 - 10 year-old at the time. There were three songs I only heard different versions to these of in the 70s: Everlasting Love sung by Robert Knight,If You Go Away being done in un-whispery fashion by Neil Diamond (though I heard Tim in a Bottle by Jim Croce quite a bit) and Barry Biggs having a big UK hit in late 1976 with Sideshow.
It's the diversity that I love about the 70s. Country, R and B, straight ahead rock, pop, soft rock, disco and everything in between sharing a chart together. You don't see that anymore.
Ok, boomer. Yes, you do. These days, we have pop, country, R&B, hip-hop, electronic, and some rock music (albeit either a heavily pop influenced version of rock or the pop-punk revival) all sharing chart space. You’re just salty that it’s not your childhood anymore.
i grew up in the 70's...virtually every one of these songs had the stigma of "AM" radio...even though they played on FM radio...these songs are not demonstrative of the true talents and song writing of the 70's....yuk!
What about Elton's classic song on the flip side of "Benny and the Jets"? Didn't hear it until 1991 when it got lots of airplay when i traveled a lot in Norcal, love the flute solo. Flute solo? Arguably one of his best songs ever, in my opinion. The song? "Funeral For A Friend " Once you hear it, it will be your FAVORITE Elton John song. I waited 17 years before I heard it. Pure Elton GOLD!

You and I must be related. I would spend hours building things with my Legos while listening to WKRC Radio in Cincinnati, Ohio. I really enjoyed the great music. Like you, I wish my mom was still here. She died last Sept 9, 2021 age 78.

This really messes with my head, but in a bittersweet way....I'm trying to remember where I was in life at that time, going back to things that were happening in my world back then, some of it cloudy and some of it clear, many of these songs seem to shift my memory back and forth, hard to believe that they go back that far. Others seem like they are from a short time ago. When I do the math and realize that that was almost 40 years ago, it just blows my mind...The power of music and memory...
1974 is a very nice musical year, with the beginnings of the disco (MFSB, Hues Corporation, Carl Douglas....). ABBA and The Rubettes ruled ! Thanks for the video !
It surely was not some random guy I was with in 1974! Lord only knows, and me and now, anonymously all you good folks, I dream about him to this very day! OK? The music brings it back in a different way but he was the one that got away-if I ever really had him, how pitiful do I sound-I', a 70 + year old woman, who has experienced so much, but he's never "left" me- in my mind or heart. No matter what. And obviously won't. The music, thank you.

Summer. 1974. I’m 16. Driving at night through Illinois with my dad. WLS on the radio. Over the next six hours I hear same songs including “Band on the Run,” “Sundown,” “Midnight at the Oasis,” Help me,” And, another song that I really, really liked but, for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the song, the artist, or anything. I can hear it in my mind. Female lead. Starts out kinda low and slow. I’ve looked and looked over the internet and, I can’t find that song! It’s driven me nuts for over forty years!
