  • Today I’m building this 1968 Pontiac GTO Hardtop “Craftsman Plus” Series by AMT. This being in the Craftsman Plus series of kits it comes with everything but the engine. It was a fun build even with its few hiccups.
I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

Turned out great. Looks really good in that bronze color!

Thank you! I had to add a second coat of paint due to swirls in the plastic showing through, but it did turn out really nice.

This car turned out great. I expect people to build these orange all the time, I love the color. Just subbed

Thank you! Some people like the way this car looks like in orange paint. It does, but I think that folks sometimes forget that they did come in different colors. I like to be a little different when I build and generally don't conform to the norm. Especially when paint colors are concerned. Thank you for the Sub!

Another great build! You got great luck , on painting bodies,!! I try painting bodies,,,, somewhere the paint will crack. I know more about stripping paint, then painting!! FRUSTRATED

Well, thank you! I don't always have great paintjobs. (Crap! The secret is out...) For the most part, though, I have pretty decent paintjobs, but sometimes mistakes do happen usually with the clearcoat. I do very light coats and just enough to get good coverage. Some guys like to use an entire can on the body, and in my opinion, that is excessive. Good luck!

Great looking build and this video has provided some good insight with respect to the paint used for the base coat. I wasn't aware of that line of paints available from Rust-Oleum and will have to get some. I normally use Rust-Oleum for clear coating but it's a hotter lacquer so I'd have to experiment with it first. Of course I could always switch to Krylon if necessary.

Thank You! I am glad that you found some insight with this video. That particular Rustoleum paint was found in the automotive section of a local Meijer store but is also available in the automotive section of Walmart as well. As long as you put down a good primer first, I don't believe that you will have any problems with this paint but do a test on a spoon or a spare body first to see if there is any reaction. Good Luck!

I have watched all your videos when you use the mod podge close clear coat I used to use it but it would always wrinkle on my cars and never under stood why I use apple barrel and I let it dry completely and use it and not had one not have one little crack in the paint so dose yours do that and can’t see it in the video if not please tell me what im doing wrong bc I love how glossy it makes the car using the apple barrel but don’t understand y it’s cracking

Mod Podge gloss clear is a good gloss coat, but as you have experienced, it doesn't always play well with certain paints. I have experienced the same problem with certain paints. It sometimes does the same thing with rattle can paint. A perfect example is my Christine build. The strange thing about that was that I used the same paints and methods on the 32 Ford Sedan Delivery. On the 32, everything worked great, but on the Christine, it didn't. Same paint, same steps, same everything. One had a reaction, and the other didn't. Ended up painting Christine three times and finally went with a different clear. So, in conclusion, Mod Podge works well with certain paints. The label would have you believe that it is an acrylic sealer, but at the end of the day, I don't believe that it really is. I have pulled an old car body out of my parts box and have been using that to test out paint combinations before I go to painting the build. I have found that when the paint wrinkles up on the test body, it hurts less that way. I have also discovered that shooting spoons doesn't always proof out the same way.

On this particular build I used Krylon Gloss Clear. I have several different clear coat types that I use depending on the type of paint that I have applied.
