Do your left and right hand have a hard time playing together? Maybe you try to play a bass line in the left hand while your right hand plays chords and they just. won't. work. together.
In this video, I’ll show you an easy and fun way to explore coordination between the hands. The exercise is fully customizable for your interested and needs. PLUS it contains super bonus material on how to strengthen your left hand and I share my favorite classical books to help develop your two hand independence.

Thank you too!
Such a great tutorial! Thanks so much.
You are so welcome!
Great tutorial! I only wish the camera was above the piano to show your finger movements and the notes played.
Such a great lesson for a 70 year old beginner like myself! Thank you so much Brenda!
You are so welcome!
Great stuff Brenda
(one thing - check the notation the second half of bar 2, in your music notation)
Thanks for that! There's always one thing that doesn't go perfectly. oh well!
Great lesson for beginners
Thanks bren
Brilliant video thanks for it and it will definitely help me with my hand independently
You could not have been any clearer about this. And all you said is completely accurate.
Thank you, Brenda!
Anytime. Keep making requests and I'll keep making videos! xoxo
I like how you use the term “coordination” vs independence. Very interesting approach! I will try on my next song
Can't wait to try this! Thank you so much 💓
You're so welcome! I think you're going to love it!
This is so helpful, Brenda! Thank you!
My pleasure! Do you have any special requests for a future video?
Wonderful lesson. Thank you very much!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much Brenda for being so clear and speaking so clearly because it defines the topic well and makes it easy to go forward with the exercise you show. Once again, your lesson is very easy to follow so I will be able to do this on my own.
Thanks so much!!
Lovely sounding exercise- reminds me of Aimee Mann. As a guitarist learning piano I’ve been bowled over by how difficult hand independence is (but also how much musical space it lets you cover). I’ve added this to my daily practice list- looking forward to exploring it. Thanks for the great lesson!
Glad you enjoyed it! Have you checked out this course? pianoandvoicewithbrenda.com/membership/piano-improvisation-for-everyone/
@@PianoandVoicewithBrenda looks great but I’m actually working through another improv course right now. Thanks for the link though!
This is brilliant!
Thank you! Feel free to share with anyone who might be interested!
You have high musical wisdom yet the simplest.
Thank you for this. I was about ready to give up on piano improv and I came across your video. I have a plan!
Fantastic! I have an entire online course called Piano Improvisation for Everyone! You should check it out!
Wonderful tutorial :)
So glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you and I have signed up 👍
Great!
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Brenda, your work is fantastic and I'm learning so much. Do you think this exercise is appropriate for a beginner who wants to play pop music?
Great video ! "Independence" + "Coordination" => "Articulation" ?
Hello Brenda, I'm a beginner and this arrangement is enticing. Could you please clarify what do the slant lines and the diamonds represent in the treble clef! Are the right hand notes played randomly or is there any pattern for them? This is so soothing!! This lesson is by far one of the best I've come across for hand independence and for invoking unique and creative thoughts!! Thank you.
Those are sharps - they raise the note by a half step higher.
@@PianoandVoicewithBrenda Hi Brenda, I figured out the diamonds and slash lines in treble clef, they are just whole, half or quarter notes. Are the right hand notes sequence at random for improvisation or is there a sequence you follow? Thank you so much.
How do you determine which notes in the improv will work with the pattern? Even some of the notes in the key of G minor don't sound good at certain pointsin the pattern. Also, how do you determine if you should use Natural, Harmonic or Melodic Minor?
You need to know some chords and scales that work well together. Think I should make a video about it?
That would be great!@@PianoandVoicewithBrenda
