Frank was a brilliant composer and musician, harbored great social and political awareness, a quick wit and great insight, but most of all, he lived in the no BS zone like no one I know. There was NEVER an ounce of fake in Frank. None. I believe it was that purity that not only informed and inspired his music but his life as well. It's what most picked up on and why people loved him, came out in droves to his concerts. You just never knew what that brilliant, funny, honest guy was going to do or say. RIP brother.
Great words man. Frank4ever.
Frankincensed Totally agree buddy!
Keith Hall KIEF!!!! SUP??? Hey, I'm back on the crack that is Frank. Funny that I had to go cold turkey for three-four months. lol And I mean not a SINGLE Frank tune in that time. I really thought I may be done with him. But no, just OD'ed. I'm back. Clean and sober. lol Just Got Yellow Shark in the mail. Finer Moments and London Symphony 1-2 on the way. I'm, BACK!!!!
Frankincensed Hey Buddy!! I'm so glad to hear you're back listening to Frank, Who else is there that you can listen to for hours without getting sick of them? I bet you missed him? I certainly do when I TRY take a break from Frank.. I sometimes think I OD on him too, but then I think ( while I'm listening to him ) who else would I like to listen to, and not much comes to mind... 'Zep'... 'Stones'.. 'Police'.. 'Hendrix'....'Floyd'.. 'Beckola'... 'Roy Buchanan'... 'ZZ' etc. you know,.. all the top shelf stuff, then I'm enjoying Frank so much, I don't bother, I wish I had a 10th of his talent!
Yellow Shark and London Symphony 1-2! Nice!
Glad to hear you're BACK BRO!!!
Peace my friend.
Keith Hall Yeah, I listen to other artists, even the great ones and it doesn't take long before I'm back to Frank. The guy is like a black hole, endless fascination.
for me, the best guitarist, forever.
me to ;-)
Most casual fans don't know that though his music was written note for note. He Never wrote solos. Pure improvisation.
My next statement is not meant to piss anyone off.
I pray that Frank realized his talent And abilities were given to him. Beforehand he died, and he made peace with our Father in heaven.
I'm an Artist and musician, I have had some minor success, (not musically, real bad stage fright) Frank Zappa is, was beyond gifted in the traditional sense.
I grateful that I got to live in a time when he was working......
Tears streaming face. Dweezil has now "taken" the torch.
Yes yes yes
For me too...
The man couldn't stand... and he kept on playing.
You did all you could, frank. And beyond.
You made us so happy with your compositions, playing, wit, humor...
Hope next time around you'll stay a bit longer.

is "one of a kind" in an album? like an official song? i'd like to know
Considering the fact he knew how sick he was, knowing damned well he was on his way out of this life/- this is as brave as anyone could ever be- I always loved everything frank stood for- this made me cry
Even 5 years after his last tour, Frank shows he never lost his chops!
And his guitar sound was so his own. Vaughan sounded a like like Hendrix.
No one sounded like FZ.
I still miss Frank so much. Your right, NO ONE ELSE "PLAYED" THEIR GUITAR LIE HE DID. No one else made the guitar sing like he did. Thank Frank...
I Think it was in ROM.STEVE VAI asked him next day how he played Guitar? Frank said your playing hears like a pressed Sandwich! Its true you can ever hear it, when Frank intodruce his
Guitar!!!
Words can't describe how brilliant this man plays! Man, I wish I was there!
........ and composed arf arf arf
Wolfgang Linke Arf! :-)
+Ziggy “Frappanised” Zappada This is truly wonderful.
Miss him too
+Ziggy “Frappanised” Zappada Your so right i wish i was there to thank him that we have videos and music
Been sitting here listening to Frank and missing him so much...thank god we do have this wonderful vehicle of youtube to be able to hear to see an hear him play, and to see all the people through out the world who he was able to touch in his unique way. In April I'm taking my 17 yr cousin to hear Zappa plays Zappa I hope that hearing his music live will excite my young cousin into wanting to listen to more of Zappa and spread to others the joy of his Zappa's genius.
I think Frank was at his guitar peak in the 80's but I shudder when I think of what could have been had we been granted more time with him... This is really awesome though, thanks for sharing.
My favorite period is more the end of the 70s featured in Baby snakes
the film
”And as you confront the new changes that would take place, please try and keep your country unique.
Don’t change into something else. KEEP IT UNIQUE.
...And now, I will try and tune my guitar.”
Epicness oozing from every pore.
Man. Got something in my eyes. Mr. Zappa, you went waaay before your time.
Great sound and great musicians. Frank I’m sure had his flaws we all do, but he made so many people not only entertained but he made them think. Sorely missed but greatly remembered.
Very enjoyable listen. Its amazing what Frank can do even with a band of gypsies. LoL With literally no practice, they pulled it off magnificently. Thanks for the upload br1tag
Wonderful to be hearing these air sculptures 21 years later. Thanks Frank!
this is not a zappa concert... but a band concert featuring zappa for extra guitar. Please respect the musicians.
I didn't know any of this, but turned out to be some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard in my f.. life. Thank you very much for posting. I know death comes to everyone, but I think there should be some kind of a device that could preserve the likes of Miles, Frank and just any other guy that can really make a difference in the lives of us, poor regular guys...
In the first video from Prague, the rhythm chords behind Frank's guitar are from "King Kong" & his solo has parts of "Orange County Lumber Truck". In the Budapest show - the first piano solo is from "King Kong". The last song contains guitar licks from "Jazz From Hell" and a good part of the rhythm is from "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck (1959).
Mad!!.... this is a man who knows he is dying... it sounds to me he and his guitar are playin' live (probably for the last time) it seems like" well old buddy this might be the last time we play live together"... many people say frank had no soul in his playing... I have listened to Zappa for years now and this man is soul searchin' here... R.I.P. Frank
Michael Salmestrelli Awesome hey dude!?
Berliner Stadtschloss There are many people who don't even like FZ or understand Frank for a start... there are many, many people who say Frank didn't have any soul... you have ears don't you! then listen! you have eyes don't you? then read!? don't go saying I make shit up!... if people think Frank is soulless in his playing, then they aren't using their ears or just don't like Frank... no big deal for me! I love the cat!
You Have Got To Be KIDDING! Frank was musical expression from the deepest parts of the universal soul of music itself.
His buddy the guitar is still playing today in Dweezil and continues a strong soul filled expression for all.
alan heidemann Yes! all you have to do is listen to 'Watermeln In Easter Hay' Fank had Truck loads of 'Soul'... and I love Dweezil, bless his soul!
Keith Hall He sure took on some big shoes to play Franks music live and does a good job.
You seem to know your music and thanks for the nice reply.
See you at a ZAPPA show soon.
Al H.
This is incredible! Thank you for sharing this! Love it!
The last time I saw Zappa live was in NYC for Broadway the hardest tour n it was very good,I was so lucky to see him alot growing up on east coast USA..he loved the New York crowds . Always will remember him as a great performer n maestro....miss ya baby..
Mr. Frank Zappa was correct when he stated that the world wasn't ready for him. Thanks for the indirect mentorship; I've benefitted since I was just a tot. What a privilege for me to have been alive when he was. Rest in peace you masterpiece!
F.Z. you will always live in my heart/soul for the decades of pure joy I feel listening to your music. Truly one of a kind......
i had heard about this show...from what ive read the pres of czheck personally invited FZ to play at this event ... he was a big FZ fan.... finally get to see it thanks for posting....
This was so wonderful to give this my full attention during a power outage .. now the power is back and I am able to seee again off of the you tube ( louder ) and am so greatfull
Thank you so much for this and so glad I found it 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I got the privilege of performing with Michel Pavlicek in 1999. Awesome man. Spent a few months in a band with his son. in CZ. Oh the memories. Best months of my life.
I feel sad watching this. We miss you Frank Zappa.
Frank knew he was dieing but he did this.......
I am amazed every time I see film clips of him, I had the honor of seeing him in St.Louis, at the Washington University quadrangle...he brings tears to my eyes, a guy who was sooo ahead of his time!! There will NEVER BE ANOTHER FRANK ZAPPA!!
Frank Zappa était attendu ! Il n avais pas joué de guitare en public depuis 3ans🎸
Frank was great and so was his band...together they made these compilations flow like a long and winding journey.
That wasn't any of his bands, all of those guys were just local musicians that FZ was jamming with.
Agree to a point, but there were those who played with him regularly on his recordings and on tour.
tim smith But that's a different thing altogether. There are none of those guys on this video, all the musicians on here are pick up guys. just locals who happened to be available at the time and who Frank liked.
Frank didn't have a band at this time.
The last band he had was in 1988, well before this.
Ok you win I made a false statement as it pertains to this video. I will be more mindful of my spontaneous praise in the future.
tim smith It's not a case of winning or losing, it's simply a fact.
Maybe it's just me, but in the years around his death he had a very different "aura" to him. Maybe it's just his mad scientist look or maybe because he was just weaker all around because of the cancer and he was hiding the pain, but he seemed more at peace with his surroundings. Just a softer presence.
+BenjamminClark
No, it's not just you. I have exactly the same feeling!
+Link Age Frank Refused the meds. He hated them-- he was still able at this point, sometimes he was real sick, and then at other times he'd have a reprieve-- he worked at home to the end.
He met this Gypsy Gay's one day before.Frank's Creation with this very good musicians to Play this JAM IS INCREDEBLE.THANK'S FOR THIS!!!
By looking at the staffs, it seems there's no one of his "usual " musicians,.. only "local" people . Must have been real fun. Theme, Basic lines, and then, Go On, Jam above it. Quite easy with Gypsies, for they have Sound And Rythm in their Soul...Love it
FZ You are my HERO!
I saw you once in about '74? at a small college in Wisconsin.. BLEW me away!
awesome, miss you Frank, thanks, irène from france
The best soulful composer and instumentalist ever ! Frank was simply an uncompromising and complex artist for the ages. The best the U.S. Cultural Ambassador ever.
I am a cosmic dude and loved it. From now on i am the Grand Wazoo
Wail on Cletus!
Outstanding Performance! The video a long with the music really made it interesting and sounded really good.
Frank Zappa le créateur, le musicien libre.
Historical, amazing!! I already knew the performance with Prazsky Vyber, which I like a lot, but I've never seen the video before. Also, it was the first time I hear or see the performance with The Gypsy Friends. Many thanks for posting it !!
Zappa is light years ahead, even after nearly twenty years nobody has been able to compare to him except Dweezil who will also get there.
seriously? hahahaaa.......yeh ok.
Mak Muk yes, that was a jam with NO real practice. Watch it and learn.pp
No he won't if he keeps playing daddy's stuff, he must seek his own path to greatness.
At times you will see and hear extraordinary things in the music world. For me, one was one of these `events`, not one shown here but, with the same band here I believe.
It was Frank seemingly channeling the other guitarist, ( the heavy-set guy with beard, not sure his name) and as Frank was sort of conducting him, the guy was watching carefully what Frank was doing with his facial expressions, hand motions and body language thus conveying to him what he, Frank, was telling him to play. It was absolutely astounding the man could tell what it was Frank was wanting him to do. It was like Frank putting his mind into the other guitar players mind and really playing the guitar through him. Uncanny to say the least. Really extraordinary and, well, mystical.
Krang Gangs Two other such unreal things I have found on You-tube.1) A young Stevie Wonder playing the drums. Near the end of his drum solo he was pressing the drum head with one hand while hitting the head with the other and making the drum `speak`. Blew me away watching that.2) Shortly after George Harrison past away, Paul had written a little tune that was a tune that could have be written by George. Exact same style as George and how George would have written and played it. Another mind blower there.
Fantastic. Witty, charming, finger on the pulse and then just stunning musicianship. I miss him.
Hi,hope you're well, again thanks for all your work and the joy you give us by posting this special, important, unique, powerful, honest and his great bands plus not forgetting his immens humor! Kisses, Sylvia
really likes tuning that guitar on stage...sort of a trademark bit of sardonic humor...hey Frank, I'd wait til you restrung it to hear you play!
I think I heard somewhere Zappa stopped playing guitar near the end of his life but that solo that starts at around 21:20 is one of my favorites of his.
One of the best at his craft, Timeless, Truly in need of Frank today.
Frank Zappa was the Mozart of our time.
Mmmmmmmmmmm what an Excellent Concert, thank you Frank & Friends
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for the up load.
Thank you
Ah - segment from 21:00 on is lovely. Pure Zappa, but a more than a bit melancholy. Fitting, somehow - perhaps a last farewell?
His music and humour are the greatest. He is one of the best artist's ever.RIP MR ZAPPA.
I disagree, the Budapest musicians aren't bad. The guitarist in the Prague show seems a bit show-offy, but otherwise these are enjoyable shows. Zappa was never arrogant about his playing.
I'm crying too. Man was bad shape physically in this video but mind is clear to play
never forgot music.
Truly his own unique music style. I use finnish words äärettömän rehellinen, viisas, todellakin improvisoi lava soolonsa, karismaattinen, sanan vapauden puolesta puhuja,
loi todellakin oman musiikkinsa.
Hardly a day goes by that I don't listen to some of Frank Zappas music. This has a fascinating interplay, a very jazzy sound in Budapest. Was there a list of the songs titles? Would have loved for Frank to have been able to explore more of this kind of music. Just a guitarist jamming with his band must have been a sense of freedom Frank did not really get to enjoy very much in the west since he was "famous as Frank Zappa" and so on and so on. Would love to hear more of this if any exists. Thanks mucho for posting this. As always, music is the best.
for ever&ever!only one is Frank!
look on you tube how stive wai on auditions on Zappa.Sorry on my english.
@@draganso1962... it's all good, dragan🎉
Thank you for posting this.
wow.
Frank never seizes to amaze.
Stunning music.
I used to play cuts from this performance including this intro on our radio show thanks to a friend who had these recordings before youtube and WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL LOVE FOR THIS PARTICULAR PERFORMANCE for more reasons than it being FZ's last .
Best I have ever seen him play guitar!!
I love this
Keith Hall Most likely the last time he ever played its in 1991 We lost him in 1993,My mom came in my room and said Joe Frank died i stayed in bed almost all day
Joepepe lombardo Did you know Frank or ever meet him? man, to stay in your room all day! his passing away must have had a huge effect on you?
Keith Hall I saw him play live 8 times,Gave hime the hi 5 once,And yeah it was the worst day of my life,Really Devastated
Joepepe lombardo LOL
The Budapest segment sounds like pure improv - brilliant!
Grazie!!!!
Frank you are and will always be incomparably way way far out. We'll always love you.
In HS, the consensus amongst my Pals was Frank played "sloppy lead." Live, his solos were LOUD and we loved him for it. That aside, BLACK NAPKINS has been my go to FRANK guitar tune. Also APOSTROPHE deserves mention. Extremely progressive rock tune
Thanks br1tag. Frank was a genius I'm lucky to have the fortune of spending my time with in retrospect and history with respect to a living legend.
Yes he's still alive in my mind.
I had the distinct pleasure of a peaceful encounter in lieu Sid dreaming, where we were going to a peaceful protest against this systematic shambles of masked masquerades and charlatans charades of government with puppets on parades.
Classical jazz was jealous of Mr Zappa.
Man he could make that guitar sing in any key.
Un moment musical important. Le dernier concert de #FrankZappa .
Fabulous ... thanx for sharing
Love this! Thanks for posting.
Why is Jeff Beck always called the Guitarrist`s Guitarist?
Frank was a Trillion times more interesting, God bless him!
There is no comparison, the guitar playing is just different.....Jeff is first of all a blues guitarist.....
Daniel Studer Are you from the "comparision Police-department" ?
What do ypu mean by "just" different?
Zappa`s got a lot of things to say on his guitar while Beck is just showing off.
There were plans afoot way back for them to record together I seem to remember. FZ liked Beck! There are better guitarists (depends what your definition of good is), but none of them are Jeff Beck.
Daniel Studer
Daniel Studer No No No. Beck isn't a blues guitarist. His background is Rock An' Roll. As is Jimmy Pages.
Allan Holdsworth is the guitarist guitarist. :-)
Brilliant. The Budapest band were really cool.
A composer even when he 'improvises', he 'compovises'.
The fact Frank even wanted to play this show, proves to me his spirit was still alive and well, even if his health was not good. Who else would have crossed the world to play with 'random' musicians in Europe when they were not at their best? Only Frank would have been up for this. Not in it for the money, just enjoying vibing with like minded musicians in a country that needed some Frankinsense.
Argghh I wish I'd been there. Still, it wasn't so easy back then to find out about concerts.
Thank York
no coment!divno,fenomenalno!
What's the coolest thing that steve via played and is influenced by fz. lots u can hear it in steves playing u always will live on frank god bless u man
Millones de gracias amigos míos. VIVA FRANK ZAPPA
Thank you for putting this up.
What a luck to find this !....I've seen the Man at Hammersmith a few times !...from the very rare times in life
that it was worth doing !
09:00 onwards is live concert from Budapest, Hungary with Hungarian Gipsy musicians, Gyula Babos guitar, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos piano, János Egri bass guitar, Imre Kőszegi drum
Awesome. I´m so glad that I saw him in 1992. The best!!
WOW!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Tnx!!
He seems really happy here in Prague. They gave him a great reception and a great crowd
was the best and always will be we wont forget you always in my mind all i remember in the 70s and 80s was zappa true legand to me luvd you then luv you now (NELSON) 2014 and still your music is legand xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks for sharing that!
thank you
Awesome post, thank you.
Quelle tristesse de pas l'avoir eu plus longtemps. C'est la vie.
bobby mars and thebestsub1... Dweezil is amazing and elaborates on Frank Zappa's approach. Yes, Frank is better.. (it's fuckin' Frank Zappa ffs.) But Dweezil represents him extremely well. Frank would approve on what Dweezil does tenfold. Shame on any Zappa fan that doesn't respect Dweezil Zappa. Frank is the king, Dweezil's the prince.
luv hearing the kids talk of their dad....luved that PV CONCERT THE BOYS DID, ALL THE DECADES, FUNNY AS HELL, caps, ooopps :P
Love Zappa!
A special man playing a special performance. A privilege to hear such a genius play.
Sadly Frank passed away before he could get back there. R.I.P. Frank
Hi - tiny corrections on the hungarian part, you might correct it if you want (yes, I'm hungarian :-) ):
1991 06 30 - Zappa In Budapest
Búcsú Fesztivál, Tabán - Budapest, Hungary (means: "Farewell Festival" - celebrating the withrawal of the russian troops from Hungary, 1991.)
Zappa with The Gypsy Friends:
Frank Zappa: guitar
Gyula Babos: guitar
The dragon slayer of notes 🎶 what a great musician.
literally laughed out loud at the trumpet solo by Gestapo Bubbles, holy shit Frank...Yes
Unique, as he says to the audience.
merci
If only the sun and the moon would collide to be Frank. Cause Frank is the greatest Frank that ever happened to me.-- MST 3K
night of the killer shrews, land of the giants, gamera!!
indeed it was and "That's not mud!!!!". Truly one of my faves. We'll miss u Frank.
End of that ep brought a tear to my eye.
