i was there, saw this show and enjoyed it :). But many fans of Zappa was disappointed, because they were waiting for a Zappa Show with his band and well known compositions. Actually this was an improvisation, a jamming of high talented musicians, and Zappa showed his best among these jazz players :) as i know the band was formed for this show ad-hoc from the most well known Hungarian jazz musicians of those times. All of them were very well known, many albums, recordings behind them. Babos, Szakcsi, Kőszegi were in the progressive jazz-rock scene since the late 60s early 70s
The Taban hill side concerts in Budapest were annual events to celebrate spring. In 1991 it had an extra trait of celebrating freedom - leaving communism and Soviet troops behind. As Budapest mayor Demszky tells in the intro interview, when was in LA, Zappa offered him to play in Budapest. And it was realised just after Zappa popped over to his Prague show. As for the accompaniment: they are excellent Hungarian gipsy jazz musicians.
