You do a great job pointing out how it's constructed and how durable and quality footwear is. I'd like to see a few other things, if you can swing it. Parts sourcing. Where are the materials coming from, and where is it being built? What is the carbon output in producing the shoe? I know that is hard to find, and sometimes a shoe maker may not know, but that would be awesome to know, especially if the shoe maker is donating shoes or sponsoring the video. Thanks for being such a great guide, Weston! Oh, can you also do women's shoes/boots?
I'd love to see you cut a pair of Grenson shoes in in half. They're made in Northampton, England and have some cool styles but made in traditional manner.
Hey Wes, I don’t know if you’ve been asked before, but would you ever plan on a series for women’s heritage boots? I just bought my wife her intro to heritage boots (a pair of Thursday boots). Not something I'd typically buy, but nice to see a brand combining synthetic materials to at least try and complement each other. I'd also be in favor of cutting open some dress shoes and/or some UK heritage boots
What does the center cut score mean? Is it the entire manual cut of the shoe or just the back? It feels like it's just the back, but sometimes the back is near perfect and doesn't get a high score.
Watched the whole video, got hyped about the brand and the construction. Was ready to buy myself a pair, went to the website and saw that they don't make a size 14. So sad and dismayed, hopefully I can get over it someday or better yet they start making larger sizes.
I know some people don't love when the brand itself sponsors the video but I feel like it gives you a better chance to hear straight from the brand why they chose to use certain materials or techniques. Yeah, obviously you run the risk of getting their marketing spin on it, but you can still decide if it's worthwhile after trying them and cutting them open.
You don't understand how the wax works. Usually, the temperature of a melting or freezing substance is constant. The solid and liquid phases are in equilibrium. Any heat added or lost from the substance will either melt or freeze some of the substance, while there is still an amount of each phase. If you have a wax that melts at about the temperature your foot is comfortable at, it will help keep your foot at that temperature. When you take a lighter to the fabric, the wax is probably all melted very quickly. You don't see liquid wax because it is encapsulated. However, any effect of this temperature regulating wax is only going to be useful if there is a big enough amount to absorb or release enough heat. The tiny amount of wax within the material dots would likely be nearly ineffectual, I would have thought. If those same dots were made of ice, your foot would very easily melt them in nearly every day-to-day circumstance. Given that water has a nearly superlative latent heat of fusion, I am highly doubtful that this material makes any noticeable difference. If anyone knows otherwise, I would be interested to hear from them.
