  • If your Surface Book Base Battery is not charging or working this video is for you! You should be able to revive/restore your battery by the end of it. This should also apply to all Surface Batteries. So basically on Surface Pro and Surface Laptops as well. The video is broken into 3 parts:
Part 1: Surface Book Base Cover Removal
Part 2: Attempts involved in fixing the battery (Starting at 7:40)
Part 3: Battery is finally fixed (Starting at 11:52)
    Devices this should work for:
    Surface book
    Surface book 2
    Surface book 3
    Surface laptop
    Surface laptop 2
    Surface laptop 3
    Surface pro 4
    Surface pro 5

I did the same. Jump started the base battery with a external battery and it powered on. Do not to give more Amps while jump starting which may further damage the battery all together. Also I did power it on from external battery for as long as 5% and then put the base on regular charger from then on no issues. One thing to notice is that the base battery should be intact and not bulged or any other damages to be seen.

I’m going to attempt to replace the battery of the base to see if that fixes the issue of my surface book 2 screen not recognizing the keyboard.. hoping I don’t have to disassemble the top but the connectors do look like it has very slight corrosion maybe from humidity or something

    • @CravingSolutions

It might be best to disconnect the top using a paper clip or something, anything can happen so I would advise you to disconnect it.
If there is any water related damage on the connectors that would make it even more reason to separate it. This way you could properly clean it.

If it won’t turn on then it’s not a battery issue, the surface book can turn on without the battery working. Did you try plugging in the screen/tablet position directly without the dock/keyboard?

Don't go flirting with disaster by connecting random chargers to pocket lithium cells for extended periods unsupervised. That's how people burn their houses down. Know what you are doing when working with naked cells, and honestly, you don't sound like you do.
The strategy to jump start a dead "intelligent" battery by putting an inital charge into the bare cells is promising. But again: Know what you are doing.
In my case I was able to charge the screen again by detaching it and connecting it to the charger directly. Maybe I have been lucky, but again, maybe the screen charging circuitry is more robust thatn the definitely flaky base unit.

When I plug the cable into the charging port on my surface, it is so slack it wobbles around. Only when I find the sweet spot where it actually makes the connection will it charge. And over time, that has become almost impossible to find. I bought a new computer (shame, because I really did like my surface), but not a Microsoft computer. After all these years they still haven't fixed a fundamental flaw.

    • @CravingSolutions
      @CravingSolutions  3 роки тому

Thanks for supporting my channel, I believe your problem is with the charging port it self. I haven’t seen many issues with the actual charge port. Often it’s the batteries completely getting drained then not being used for a little while that causes them to completely die.
Did you try charging just the screen and not the keyboard? You will have to use a paper clip to release the screen from the keybord though. I don’t believe I have a video that shows that unfortunately, though I know I recorded is somewhere… But there should be videos out there that show that.

      @@CravingSolutions Thanks for the reply.
No problem with the battery itself. If I can get it to charge, it charges well and lasts long. But it's getting it to charge. From when I first got the computer the connection was a bit loose, and charging was a bit hit and miss. But generally if I got the chord in the right position it would charge. Problem was mostly while I was using it. If I laid it flat and charged, it seemed to be fine. But it became increasingly more difficult to charge, even when laying flat. Now the connection is super loose. I can still get it to charge if I'm really patient, but it has to be laying flat and I have no idea if it's charging until I turn it back on. If it didn't charge, then I have to try again.
I've already bought a new computer. but looking into using the monitor as a second screen. So, I persist.
