I couldn't get into recovery mode by pressing and holding volume down and power button. Rather, I used the volume up and power button to get into a area where I could change the boot sequence and selected USB and instructed it to boot immediately (note I had my recovery USB drive plugged in). From there, I got to the "blue screen" and all went perfectly from there. Anyways, many thanks to this video for getting my Surface Pro 7+ up and running again!!!
Your video is pretty much idiot proof. What I don't understand is why Microsoft could not have managed to do something this accessible themselves. Thank you!
Thanks Aldo just got an old Surface 3 working that I didn't have the password for. At end of process got a message about deleting preferred ?? using F12 key or use ESC. Used ESC Key that took me back to start of process. Just switched off the Surface removed usb key and restarted and all good to go. Thanks
Hi Aldo, thanks a lot for this. I tried for mine but still failed, and turns out it's because of the UEFI system defect and only for Surface Go. I called Microsoft support system today and they verified that mine is approved for 1-to-1 replacement eventhough warranty period is over. Just in case anyone stuck with the same issue 🙂

Trying to restore a Surface Go; these things have one USB port and their charging port. The charger has been lost and destroyed, so I've been charging it via USB C. The issue is i don't have any multi adaptors or USB C dongles that would allow a USB drive & charger together. So the thing died during the restore and now its deeply broken. Every solution i have tried so far gets it stuck in a boot loop that kills the battery. Then i have to charge it again and try the whole process again. Might just sell this on eBay for parts lol.

Thanks for this comprehensive guide. However, doesn't load beyond the "choose your keyboard layout" I have tried reloading it severally and when it manages to get past the "choose your keyboard layout", it get stuck forever. Any clue on what might be wrong?
Did you get it working?
Hi
Try plug in a USB hub, using an external keyboard and mouse. I had the same problem and it worked.
I can’t seem to get past the clicking file and finding the start button on my Lenovo laptop to creat my recovery drive
Nice and very helpful post. Questions: I only have a windows 7 64-bit desktop, so having problem downloading the re-installation file to my PC. However I downloaded it to my android phone and copied it to a 16 gig USB drive. I had to format the USB flash drive with xFAT format to be able to copy an 8 Gig file to the 16 Gig USB. The FAT 32 would not do it. it is a zip file (SurfacePro8_BMR_12010_4.68.2.zip) on my USB drive. How can I continue from there? Thanks
So, I found a friend's Windows 11 desktop and follow your instruction. It worked fine and all went as expected. Thanks. Great instructions. Keep up the good job.🙏🙏
Will this work if the surface has no operating system on it?
It will :)
Great video! My one problem is when I try to reset my surface 2 it just wont reset I even tried both volume up and down buttons separately. It just turns on or off and only showing the surface logo and "preparing automatic repair" under it then it just takes me back to the blue error screen.
Keep holding the buttons even when things pop up and it should launch you into this mode
@@AldoJames ok I will try this thanks!
The boot reset worked perfectly fine but when it takes me to set up my settings such as language, keyboard layout or connecting to wifi I cant move my mouse or use my keyboard. I've gotten to Microsoft terms and agreements using Cortana but then Cortana stops working and I cant move my mouse to click accept.
Taht sounsd like a driver issue, you might need a corded usb keyboard/mouse to make the selections

Good video, will this work to clear UEFI system password? Essentially does it reset the bios?
I don’t believe it clears the UEFI settings
