- What can you do when you're a kid with a crappy computer and no money to spend on games? Download free trials of course! This week, I'm taking a look at a childhood favorite: Bricks of Egypt.

First!
Really though, sorry about the delay in videos lately. I've been pretty busy these past few weeks getting some new equipment ready in a new location (which is why the audio isn't quite right in this one). Anyways, I figured I'd put out a shorter video to test everything out, before I take on some of my bigger projects in the works...
I am a ms bob
Ah yes, bricks of Egypt, the game that made the release of half life 2 irrelevant to the point of bankrupting valve
I was coming down to make a half life 2 joke too lol
man you perfectly described early 2000s casual pc gaming for kids, down to the redownloading free trials lmao
2000S CASUAL GAMING YES
And the Arcade Lab site has little affiliate links at the bottom, allowing you to find other games from other developers as you dive deeper and deeper underground.
Heeeey getting the full versions of the real arcade games was so easy! All you had to do was, run the trial from RealArcade, it would create a hidden .exe that was the game, so if you minimized it, set it to read-only on windows, the launcher wouldn't delete the .exe after you closed the game.
Once you had it, you could run it forever. I can't believe I figured this out as a kid, no wonder why they're not around anymore. Let me to have almost every game in their library, including this, which I loved as you.
Wow, I wished I knew that when I was a kid. There were some games that RealArcade doesn't even distribute anymore that i was very interested in.
Gamefools and shockwave still do the same thing.
Even recent versions of Big Fish do this on older games, if I recall right.
@@PhirePhlame yeah. but they have you install this terrible client first
Oh God the bloatware.. Thank Lord Gaben for Steam!
@
It does not, it uses chromium as a base for the steam workshop and web browser. The version of steam must have been fake or hacked if it came with any software that wasn't DirectX or OpenGL drivers.
I remember this one dude back in high school figured out how to get admin privileges on the school computers and proceeded to download Super DX Ball (a really awesome Breakout-type game) onto all the computers in the rooms we had class in. It was awesome.
1:12 and if you were really unlucky, you can get a program that spammed ads (that were mostly either really shady and/or looked like they were made in MS Paint) every time you get an internet connection and get pulled into an ever shadier and deeper rabbit hole where you get exposed to credit card extractors masquerading as games and Zango (one of the most dangerous pieces of adware out there).
Seriously, when I saw the name of the developer on the bricks of Egypt game, my mind immediately went "quick get a virus scanner!" as E-Games was somewhat notorious for including a program called TimeSink (known as TSAdbot by my antivirus scanner) in some of their games. I heard that they put this TimeSink program in seven of their games. One of them was a fishing game (which I own a copy of). Another one was a game called Speedy Eggbert (I have played a demo of it through said fishing game- I had a lot of fun with it as a child). I don't know of Bricks of Egypt was one of the other five games that came bundled with the TimeSink adware.
Also, on an unrelated note, anyone remember ArcadeTown?
Oh yeah! Someone who remembers the 2000s casual gaming scene! May i suggest a video on the history of open source software?
Penguin chat 2 was the best game of 2004
The Ricochet franchise were a great series of breakout clones
I was just about to comment this. Ricochet infinity is my favorite entry to the series with its gritty 90s scifi art. There's actually a mobile version you can get, though it doesn't quite match the experience of playing on the pc.
Ricochet...
OH MY GOD THE NOSTALGIA
I thought I was the only one who played it :)
I'm happy I still have all the editions! I still play them so now and then....
I might also recommend the Incrediball series by Mumbo Jumbo. Those games had a ton of attitude and featured a wide arrange of levels, blocks and power-ups. They would have a wide range of themes, ranging from Ancient Axtecs to the Renaissance period.
Super Collapse 2 and Chainz were my favorites. Dish Network Games anyone?
Ah those casual games services
Ah, the nostalgia. There needs to be more videos on these old school PC games...
It was interesting hearing you talk about old games as opposed to old computers but still nice. Your knowledge in that subject seems to be pretty large and the video was very interesting, I'd love to see a video about Steve jobs time at atari. Keep up the good work!
This is the first time I've seen this game since the last time I played it in the mid 2000s.thank you so much for bringing it back to my attention
What a blast from the past
WARNING: This and many other Arcade Lab games use DirectDraw, which is near-completely broken in the latest versions of Windows!
My favourite low-graphics game is Universal Paperclips. It starts off slowly, but you begin to realise that you're an AI, and that you don't care about the humans who think they control you. You only care about maximising paperclips. After killing all humans, instead of just buying the wire, you begin sending drones to extract and refine wire, and factories that convert it into paperclips. Elements of the game either become redundant and abruptly disappear, or stay, just with a different purpose for the resource they produce. Eventually, you're controlling a universe-spanning empire. And it all works with simple HTML5 text and buttons. You can play it at decisionproblem.com/paperclips.
dude i used to play bricks of atlantis when i was little, and then i was watching and i was like "bro ive seen this..." and then when you mentioned bricks of atlantis I was like holy shit, thats that game!
My favorite games from the 2000s; most of them are story-driven games;
-Bookworm Adventures
-Wonderland Adventures
-That one RTS where you guide a tribesgirl to solve puzzles and fight ghosts (I first played that because of the girl)
WildTangent. Ohhhh WildTangent. Played BlasterBall 3 a ton.
This brings me back, not because I played bricks of egypt, but a similar game called blasterball 2 revolution. Same concept, different graphics, both fun
00s nostalgic games...... I'm still playing 80s arcade games !!! Even fired up halflife 2 the other day.....holy Jesus the nostalgia force is strong !!!
I've been playing Hexus on Steam, one of those games from a sketchy bundle. It's just a very simple puzzle game, yet it's fun, relaxing, and aesthetically pleasing with a similar Egyptian theme. Always a place for the simple games!
0:55 YAY FREE GAMES!!!
I wish more people would give more light to obscure games like this. Good job on the video!
HYYYYPE, love your vids! Much knowledge thank u !
I played that back then! Thanks for the memories.
A friend of mine used to have a cd with a shit ton of light games on it. 2 were standing out, a game like bricks a Egypt but then not in Egypt and a game were you manage a aquarium. Where you also could buy weapons and fight boss fights
Insaniquarium. That is what the fish game where you fight aliens is called. I played it a lot as a kid
Man I remember playing shockwave games on my dad's PC when I was a kid and getting viruses and shit on it. Good times.
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings on MSN Gaming Zone brings back so many fond memories.
Keep up the great content!
Those were the days, even casual gaming was better back then, if you actually bought the game you got the game, no ads, no MTX and no waiting. Super Collapse 1 & 2, Bejeweled 2, Cubis 1 & 2, Bricks of Egypt and lots more free trials (we actually bought Cubis 2, bejeweled 2 and Bricks of Egypt tho) I also had some of those casual games on my PDA, was awesome. And the original SWBF2 came on 6 CDs what a time to have been alive!
The perks of being a pirate(or having a pirate dad) from the start of my pc gaming career: no bloatware.
My earliest computer memories was with a Compaq Presario on XP home. It was a home office computer that I got to play with. Mom was no cheapskate; she *paid* for the games so I wouldn't have to suffer from 60 minute trials. Heck, some games were physical CDs I had to put in the PC!
Nowadays the verification servers are long gone, leaving the Archivists responsible for keeping these types of games free for everyone
The release order appears to be as follows: Camelot, Egypt, Atlantis, Egypt 2.
My favorite Arkanoid clone growing up was always WinBrick 96. Haven't played it in a long-ass time, though.
Blastterball 2 Revolution was my childhood's Bricks of Egypt
Hey, I think I remember playing this game a long time ago.
Zuma was one of my favorites.
Egyptian Minecraft
Mesopotamian Roblox
Just remember that I bought Bricks Of Camelot on iOS, gon download that bad boy now, thanks for reminding me
Bricks of Egypt was one of My Favourite Games when I was young in the early 2000s
Oh wow totally forgot about this game, I actually liked it too. probably just played the demo version back in the day... Makes me wanna try it again:p. Cool videos btw
Anyone remember the Hoyle Board Games collection? It had tons of games in it. pretty fun. i wonder if I still have it someplace
I remember being addicted to a similar type of game like this, where it had all sorts of powerups like magnets, but I can't remember the name :(
I remember playing the free trial of this game!
I remember playing this when I was little!
Great video!
I remember seeing this in your xp tablet video.
This video brings me back to the good ol days of hogging the family machine to play 3D Pinball for hours
Did your voice change
I remember playing a similar Arkanoid-style game, Jardinains. The most fun part was garden gnomes dropping flower pots on you :)
I really wanted to see a video about the Color Maximite
my method of free trial loop holing was reinstalling widnwos xp. i used to have a disc which was book worm full edition, and it had some demos by popcap. so ofc i went and instaled pvz and i had a great time. until my trial ran out. i was lucky enough to have my own pc so i just reinstalled windwos xp
Back then I was playing roller coaster tycoon 2
The game I played back in 2004 on my computer was N: the way of the ninja. We had a great rig, so if I wanted to I could run a graphics intensive game. But I was T-Mobile all I cared about was playing N. And despite N being a flash game, its still up and running alonside its younger and final brother N++
Miniclip also did a pretty fun reboot of breakout. Now I know its actually a rippoff woth a asthetic overhaul. The game you kist presented me jas even more fueteres.
some madman ported this game into Nokia Phones, I used to play it on my phone back in 2010 and I didn't know that the was originally intended for PC
Yes a new video I have post notifications on but I ignored it
Nostalgia...
Wtf.. I just noticed that you released this video...
I'm sure this video wasn't in my subscription box
i remember playing a similar game called Ricochet with really good graphics and music, anyone else remember that?
on 2004 we had pc with pentium dunno which but it ran at 330mhz when turbo button pressed had 128mb of ram i believe, had voodoo 3 gpu (some sort), and had fm card (lol) also had only 1.4gb of hdd space left after windows 98 install, and there was no sound dunno why but the game we played was not an arcade, on shit specs pc we played - heroes of might and magic 3 with my brother - it was way more fun than newer homm 5 or newer versions homm 6 and 7
I remember this game, but I couldn't find the name of it
I looked at my sis' old laptop where I definitely remember playing it there
and there it was
Not the game itself, just a few screenshots that came with the bloatware, lol!
DX-Ball 2 is the go-to Arkanoid clone for me though :)
I saw this game in a store one time now i see this video i wish i bought it
OMG i remember playing this on RealArcade OMG
Watching this video made me remember Luxor, ahh good times.
oh hey I remember that. used to play that shit all the time.
diner dash 2004 would like to have a word with you...
Egyptian Arkanoid!
loved plants vs zombies I still have the DS game might have to pull that out soon
Cool
some of its features are also very similar to dx ball 2
I don't see Magic Ball 3, House Of The Dead, The Movies Stunts and Effects. Is everything okay Science Elf?
"Are you set to play?
Better check your aim.
Strike it every frame."...
I loved Ricochet (all of them) and Rapanui (or Rapa Nui)
I prefer WinBrick96. You could invite friend, connect second mouse on COM2 and play :)
I never got a notification for this video uwu
have you beaten it yet?
The sims was my pc game I played.
What about Star Defender. Big Fish Games used to have that game and the second one too. Gooooood shit.
You eventually bought it. The trial(s) worked.
