It's pretty hilarious; you set up a game with no opponents and immediately win a domination victory due to having no opponents (as soon as the game loads in.) There's a Paradox Interactive game (EU4?) where you can complete an "Any% run" by losing the game immediately. You start the game as some nation with active separatist rebels and surrender to them as soon as possible.
I enjoy speedrunning Bambi adventure game and also lion king 1 and a half but there's no leaderboard for them but yah I kind of would love there to be more leaderboards for dvd games but there aren't really any
Honestly, I'd love to see a "short speedruns" list ranked by ratio of speedrun_time:average_casual_playthrough_time. An hour-long run of a 5 hour game would be "shorter" than a 5 minute long speedrun of a 10 minute long game, for example.
Do you count TASes? SMB3 has a glitch where overfilling the input buffer leads to arbitrary code execution and a 0.3s run. That's roughly a 1:10000 ratio by your metrics.
Not that it wouldn't be fun to see a list of TAS runs on the same metric. But I think for interesting content, you'd want to keep those categories separate
I think the SHORTEST, if we include all types of runs, is Stranded Isle Death%, which can be completed in 0 frames since timing is from first input and zombies can kill you before you do anything. A 0 frame run at least has to be tied for shortest run ever, right?
IIRC, In NetHack you can die before ever having control too. It relies on activating auto-pickup, and setting a clock (random seed) that generates a cursed item on the starting tile.
Awesome stuff. Some of the super short ones feel more like technicalities, but Master System Zool has to take the cake for legit credits warp in a retail release.
Don’t forget the Neopets flash game Fashion Fever. Literally all you have to do is click “start”, “end game”, and then “send score.” It’s my favorite speedrun ever lmao
This was one of the first times ever I clicked a compilation and wondered if my speedrun was going to be featured! It wasn't (I have the WR in the Google Doodle of Celebrating Pizza at around 24 seconds). Many of these speedruns are incredibly exact. It's quite fun!
9:48 Is there a reasonable explanation for why this works? Considering this is a credits warp on an old system, it probably uses arbitrary code execution, but since there wasn't any setup for the warp, I am out of ideas.
It reminds me of the sonic 3d blast crash handling that was used to get around Sega testing to get the game licensed. In essence, if the game detected that it crashed, it would being you to a "secret" stage select screen, therefore making it seem like the crash never happened. This is just speculation, but if I had to guess I would bet this would be a similar situation, where the game starts to crash, the game detects it and sends it to the end credits to hide the crash and reset the game. If you want more info about that sonic thing, the channel game hut (who is also the creator of that game) made a video explaining it.
Quick draw is a really cool speedrun that has had a lot of work put into lowering the WR in the past year. It's very unique in that you are working against Google's AI in order to go fast, so we have found a lot of cool quirks with drawing that exploit the AI in interesting ways. Thanks for featuring it! I would definitely recommend trying it out to anyone looking for a short speedgame!
I wonder who got the 35 on ds? Must be a pretty cool person. All jokes aside it's cool to see monopoly Speedruns mentioned, it's such a popular boardgame with a very small speedrun community.
Oh boy I better submit a monopoly run on android before it gets popular and I never have wr. Already beat it by minutes but wasn't screen recording. I didn't think I'd get it
I bet me and my older brother could get a live board game Speedrun record. It bugs me when people think Monopoly is a long game, because they don't know how to trade property, and horde their cash for no reason
Since you mentioned mm's cart crash speedrun, there are some even more insane crash speedruns. Portal crash% is the guaranteed shortest speedrun ever, with a wr of exactly 0 seconds. The run could get crazier than that, because a -1.5 second time could be possible. And for the same category in half life 2, it could be around -1:30.
My guess on the M&M Racing crash is cause of this trick racing games use which is to use checkpoints throughout the track to your position, so my guess is that you trigger a checkpoint earlier than intended and the game has a stroke
Well in my opinion clicking a hidden pixel in the main menu or entering a passcode to it shouldn't count. usually the timer starts once you press "Play" but that way they didn't even start the game yet

There's a game called The Town with No Name, which is a pretty badly made point and click adventure game with multiple choice options at times. The first choice in the entire game is when the protagonist gets out of the train and arrives at the town, then you get the choice to go back into the train which just triggers the end credits, so the any% category is just the first cutscene of the game lol. It's like 14 seconds or something like that. I'm one of the world record holders
Two worlds has an insanely funny speedrun, that is also under 2 minutes (1m 41s) so normally the game is over 20 hours but there's a part very near the beginning of the game, where the main villain is hanging out outside a village to give you some quests but, if you aggro him, and bait him into shooting a fireball at one of the villagers, the entire village dogpiles him, and beats the fuck out of him until he dies now normally, this would do nothing but in this game, the ending cutscene is tied to the NPC dying so, when he inevitably gets killed by the villagers, you win
