    Another great video. Glad I found your channel!! I see here you have a #5 cast head. Just picked up an '89 and from underneath when looking up on an angle from clutch slave cylinder I can clearly see a #5 like yours. We purchased the Trooper from a old fella (92) who bought the rig new from the dealer. Funny thing is he can't remember ever having changed the head out way back and I thought by even late '89 production the heads were only at #3?? Super happy about it just curious is all. Thanks again for the great vids

    Hey Blake thanks for checking it out. I started it today and besides an exhaust leak under the car it's running really well. I might not have the vacuum lines routed right over on the passenger fender though so I have to take a closer look at the Chiltons. The cam I put in didn't change where the engine got it's torque but it does have quite a bit more lift. I'll call the guy who ground it soon to ask how much more. I also have the block decked so the compression went from stock of 7.95:1 to 9:1. I put in larger stainless steel valves and some porting behind them. I had the internals balanced too. Isky is who ground the cam if that helps. Next time I call the machine shop in Bakersfield I'll get all the stats. Shoot a video of yours when you get a chance.

    I have a problem I have been suffering from for two years, which is high air pressure in the 4ze1 engine

      @@nicholasbottini8731 No, my problem is that the engine air is too high. I hope you understand because I am speaking to you through the translator. For example, the sound of the engine is too loud, as if you are pressing the pedal.

      @@ryanu3679 you must mean the engine speed, the engine rpm. Your idle speed is too high? That could be for several reasons. Idle air valve, carbon buildup on the throttle that won't allow it to close all the way. But there is an idle speed adjusting screw. You can try screwing it in further and it should slow the idle speed. Do you know where that is? If not I can send you a picture.

    Old video I know but cool these things are getting harder to find you can delete a lot of the vac hoses and some coolant lines to clean up under hood

      Thank you, I'd like to eliminate some of that but they are so meticulous here in CA when it's time to get it smogged. Last time they spent 30 minutes looking around under the hood to make sure I had all the original stuff.

    hey mate i have a 1990 holden rodeo (australian version of the troopy) i had an engine in it when i bought it with the flat top pistons but kidney shaped combustion chambers was running on 98 octaine fuel 91 octaine in america i think due to detonation problems but i got a letter from the epa saying your not alowed to have smoke pouring out of your exhaust or some nonsense like that ;) i have another stock standard 4z in ot at the moment but i have a spare engine i bought today and i was just wondering what are the specs on your new cam and valves and did you get the cylinders boared at all? im thinking big with my build forged rods and pistons stock crank port and polish and what not just looking for some specs thanks for the videos mate!

    Hi! I have a question about where do they repair Isuzu's in Bakersfield?

    • @nicholasbottini8731
      @nicholasbottini8731  2 роки тому

      A machine shop down there called Reynolds automotive machine did the machining on my engine. That was a few years back. There was a guy named Hugh that was familiar with and had done quite a few 4zd1s and 4ze1s

    what is that tube coming off the valve cover?

    • @nicholasbottini8731
      @nicholasbottini8731  7 років тому

      Are you talking about the metal tube running horizontally? The smog pump pushes air into it and then into the exhaust system. Old style cats needed it to work properly but I have to keep it here in California because they make you keep all original equipment. Or are you talking about the vacuum line? I have it running good so I'll do a video soon. I've learned a lot along the way and had to solve many strange problems.

    how is the engine running?

    • @nicholasbottini8731
      @nicholasbottini8731  7 років тому

      Kwesi Davidson Very good but had to set the timing to six degrees before top dead center at idle and run premium to keep it from pinging because the compression ended up higher than I thought it'd be. It does pretty well for an 8 valve 4 cylinder moving an almost two ton boxy SUV with somewhat aggressive tires. on Highway 80 going to Truckee I can hold between 65 and 70 climbing those hills depending on how many people I have in the car. 4th gear on the steeper ones.

      Hey Kyle, I'll help in any way I can. Do you want to have the block machined and then assemble the engine yourself or have someone build it entirely? Do you already have the block to start with? Sorry you had some bad experiences reaching out. I won't name names but one guy in particular was a real jerk back when I started my rebuild. There is a machine shop in Bakersfield called Reynolds automotive machine who at the time actually had a blurb on their website about how they rebuilt the 4zd1 and 4ze1 and added a little pep to it. But that was about 5 years ago when I saw that. You'll never get enough power to throw you back in the seat but any extra helps. I would definitely recommend balancing the internals since you're pretty much always over 3,000 RPM on the highway.
