The car was made to run the 1/4 mile, not top end prolong runs over 150mph. Anyway, when do you run those speeds (160mph) on the street without going to jail? My Hellcat is probably good for over 199mph and she will never see those speeds on the street.

The Demon 170 is so disappointing to see, I've been a Mopar man my entire life too. The car is crazy awesomeness, when it's working. Unfortunately it seems busted way to often for the cost of the car.
Why would you be surprised at this? Dodge is garbage and has been my entire life and I am 50. The company has been sold multiple times and the best thing they make is a fuckin minivan.
@rocknrolljesus3197 neither Plaids nor Demons make sense to me. For 6 figures, I want a car that can do everything well. Plaids and Demons are 1/4 horse tricks and nothing more. Plaids at least offer seating for 4 but the poor high speed stability and braking make it almost as dangerous as the 60s muscle cars. A CT5-V Blackwing may be slower than both but is a monster on the track and is also great at just cruising. Same with the M5 CS. If you just want a drag monster, you can build one for half the price of either car that will beat either car.
@@jtc1964x plaids have proven to do very well on curvy tracks too and is a 5 passenger family vehicle....far from a one trick pony 170 that doesn't do well at it's one trick.
Best Challenger I ever bought! Runs stronger thanthe 2018, you just have to break it in right! Simple things, like follow the break-in procedure in the manual.

Dodge limited the hell out of the Demons because they *knew* they were gonna blow engines, they just didn't expect so many so fast at such low overall speeds.

Ohh my god My challenger R./T Rallye Redline 5.7 was limited until I put a Diablo sport tune on her and deleted rev limiter and speed limiter and a 93 octane tune. Now she can hit 167 m.p.h
First of all GO BUCKS! I believe Herman Young had some software issues with his 170 I don't remember what the exact problem was I believe he couldn't unlock his modes after 500 miles. I remember he had to get Dodge involved to get it to work. Good to see you out making some passes and may the Mopar Gods shine upon you!

Catch cans are legit. I have one on my coyote powered F-150 and it does pull oil out of the combustion system. I have experienced about 1 mpg improvement after installation.
Damn, I have an old but we’ll take care of C5 and it hit 160 like nothing on a open highway. I actually stop giving it gas at 160 but the car wanted to go faster.
I know people that tell me that my catch can is pointless. They are blown away when i tell them i get more power from it. Not directly, but indirectly. It prevents me from losing power when the octane level of my fuel drops from the excess oil being burned without the catch can.
Assuming the tach and mph hud in the video are accurate, you're almost 1000 rpm past redline when it's laying over. Not trying to be a smart ass but try shifting manually
Maybe when the stealership finished replacing the engine, they didn't reset the PCM and clear all fault codes. The PCM thinks the broke engine is still in the car. After driving with no issues, the PCM realizes the engine is OK and stopped doing a boost bypass.
I made my 2020 RT with the performance package from the factory with some all season performance BFgoodrich tires go over 151 mph without any roll off on a remote stretch of public land here in the wild west, and then there is the Demon 170 can't even go over 140 mph, that's sad what Dodge is doing nowadays.
The Demon 170 is limited to 149mph. Any dodge car that hits its top speed will start kick out when it's close to it's limit. For example, a Super Track Pack 5.7RT will kick out around 155-157 mph and a base model 5.7RT kick out at 129-131 mph. That's normal when reaching its top speed. Also, switching to regular street tires will help reach that 149mph a little better and quicker. The pcm will always adjust the speed based on the traction, and wheel speed according to the wheel speed sensors.
I love all the people the are calling the demon 170 a piece a junk while the majority of them are probably driving around in a 98 Honda Accord. I also love the people that say " Oh my 2012 SRT or my camaro or mustang is better then the Demon because it will go 170+ mph. You all need to wake up. Dodge put the speed limiter on the 170 because the tires are not rated for 200mph+ speeds. Its called liability. They are a multimillion dollar company and if the car did not have a limiter and someone drove it 215mph on the tires supplied by Dodge and they failed, Dodge would be screwed. Everyone wants to talk so tough. The reality is Dodge dod something no other ICE manufacturer dared to to. You can take a 170 to the track and run 8's then drive home with the A/C on. That is an amazing feat. And so what if a few motors have blown. The important part is Dodge is replacing them under warranty. Any super high performance car from any manufacturer has had issues. And for those asking yes the limiter can be tuned out and the Demon 170 will easily blow past 200mph. The reality is they are all under warranty and removing the limiter would void the warranty and I do not think qny current owners want to take the chance with that.
Ok so tell me why the new Corvette zr1 has no boost loss at 135 and why would anyone have a car that goes 200+ if it was a liability issue. This makes no since for the price and the car it claims to be shouldn't be limiters until alot higher imput then 135. Maybe 170 like the name lol. Sell this garbage and buy a real car💯

Not sure why anyone is disappointed with the 170’s top speed, Chrysler told us that it was speed limited, with that being said, I would be concerned if this were my car with as many issues as you have had with it.
It kinda seems like the Demon 170, although an amazing idea from Dodge, just doesn't deliver as promised in practice. Just get a Hellcat (or a Redeye) and you'll be better served all around.
demon 170 is a boat anchor ,this one does have the cloth interior , my choice is a 807hp red eye super stock no opt, rear seat delete than run it against a one seat no opt demon 170
Absolutely beautiful car. It does what it is designed to do really well, and that is drag race. I must say though. I'm really disappointed it tops out at that speed. A car with that lrice point and that much power feels like it would be faster than the lower trim chargers and challengers.
Maybe sell it try something else maybe get dodge to buy it back? Lol or sell it and try another demon? It just seems like this car has been a lemon of some sort? Love the channel man I want to see you and Brooks race again.
My 06 Charger SRT8 is twice the car of the 170. Not as fast in the 1/4 mile but a much better all around car that will top out over 170 and run forever. I have 355K miles now and added a 300C with a tuned 6.4. Another great motor with even more low end power.
Wow, I did NOT expect to hear that a Tesla made it beyond 140-150 mph, even a Plaid. I thought they all topped at about 140, and most of their torque dropped off at like 115ish. I guess that's the old first version Tesla days at the track when the Tesla would of course smoke off the line but then the muscle cars would end up catching up and passing before the 1/4 mile marker.
Wondering if the computer automatically cut the power after reading the car travelled a quarter of a mile. Noticed it was cutting out around 135 but you rolled into it and probably crossed the quarter mile at that speed. Unlocked PCM should fix that problem.
Sounds like the factory governor is engaging early… typically factory speed governors cut fuel at a predetermined RPM, while it’s better to cut timing (like MSD) so as not to run lean. Sounds like the RPM is set incorrectly, probably in the factory tune. It’s possible the car needs to be driven a certain distance of predetermined mileage for a break-in period.
Similar issue was going with my 392 with the lunging forward, didn’t do it all of the time. It was the module that controlled TCS was fried by a bad ground, was causing intermediate strange issues with shifting and hanging up in high rpms, lunging, and engine braking went it should’ve been coasting etc. Was all the one module.
I’m a boosted car owner and it runs on full ethanol. Honestly you might be dealing with an annoying fuel system clog, problem or it’s overboosting for some reason on the top end. Could be down to tuning. Sounds like a loose wastegate faulty wastegate
Most enthusiasts modify their vehicles. I am not familiar with the D170 but assume their are tuning devices that can remove the restrictions. I assume you want to keep the vehicle stock for warranty reasons as it has already paid off with an engine. Interested in hearing what was the issue.
Custom mode is your best friend. Track transmission. Street everything else. Don't care what any other owners tell you. With this set up and traction on you can full throttle from a dig with little to no rear wheel spin. If you let it get up to 40 at about 70% throttle you can step on it fully after that and it will be a softer but quicker launch And the supercharger will kick in right when you step on her
True, but using the same tires that come on the Demon 170, going faster than the max rated speed of 149MPH..... You better have a life insurance policy established.
After 1320 feet you are not wrong. 170 is a quarter mile car. Scat Pack is just getting going at the end of a quarter mile. If you like 9 seconds of adrenaline get the 170. Everything else get the Scat or Cat.
I heard the driveshaft in these cars is only limited to about 150mph or so, so even if you put street tires on the car and remove the speed limiter apparently if you go fast enough the driveshaft could break, penetrate the cabin and cause injury to the occupant(s). I'm not kidding, that is what a Demon customer claims Dodge has said. The car is only able to go over 150mph for a short period of time, just long enough to trap the quarter mile at 151.

Watching the video I felt like the transmission was causing the problem high hp hellcats seem to have a problem with shifting 5 to 6 or at least my old one did along with few others

You either need to get it tuned or sell it bro. I honestly think you should get another Hellion 5.0 honestly. In my opinion you will have better luck with a 5.0!
FWIW, I am running HP Tuners with my 2016 Challenger SRT392, the Speedometer Limiter is editable and the default value for my car is 186mph. I'd assume your Demon 170 has the same type of setting within the ECM. I did have to switch to a Diablo Sport ECM that is not encrypted for HP Tuners to function.
Looks like the rev limiter is kicking in. Try to manually shift it. Added: My Challenger acted just like that sometimes, and that’s what was happening. Hope you get it sorted out.

That thing is not making 1000hp, my superstock with same power you can't go full throttle at anything less than 80 on pavement

It looks like a shift point issue. The shift point might be set higher than the rev limit, aka red line.

Not sure why anyone is disappointed with the 170’s top speed, Chrysler told us that it was speed limited, with that being said, I would be concerned if this were my car with as many issues as you have had with it.

Dodge did say that the demon can actually hit 210mph. You would need to change the tires, and remove the limiter which again is related to tire
Even when it wasn't running well, that exhaust sound gave me goosebumps!
It kept laying over because the transmission wasn't shifting at the right time so it was basically redlining
It kinda seems like the Demon 170, although an amazing idea from Dodge, just doesn't deliver as promised in practice. Just get a Hellcat (or a Redeye) and you'll be better served all around.
demon 170 is a boat anchor ,this one does have the cloth interior , my choice is a 807hp red eye super stock no opt, rear seat delete than run it against a one seat no opt demon 170

Absolutely beautiful car. It does what it is designed to do really well, and that is drag race. I must say though. I'm really disappointed it tops out at that speed. A car with that lrice point and that much power feels like it would be faster than the lower trim chargers and challengers.
Maybe sell it try something else maybe get dodge to buy it back? Lol or sell it and try another demon? It just seems like this car has been a lemon of some sort? Love the channel man I want to see you and Brooks race again.
My 06 Charger SRT8 is twice the car of the 170. Not as fast in the 1/4 mile but a much better all around car that will top out over 170 and run forever. I have 355K miles now and added a 300C with a tuned 6.4. Another great motor with even more low end power.

Im fairly positive a proper tune can correct all of the issues. Uncorked it should be close to 200 mph.
Wow, I did NOT expect to hear that a Tesla made it beyond 140-150 mph, even a Plaid. I thought they all topped at about 140, and most of their torque dropped off at like 115ish. I guess that's the old first version Tesla days at the track when the Tesla would of course smoke off the line but then the muscle cars would end up catching up and passing before the 1/4 mile marker.
For the price they should run consistent 8s and don’t more like low 9s

Demon 170 has a mph limiter at 150 mph
The car maxes out at 152 then backs down to 149 .. yes it's definitely limited

Wondering if the computer automatically cut the power after reading the car travelled a quarter of a mile. Noticed it was cutting out around 135 but you rolled into it and probably crossed the quarter mile at that speed. Unlocked PCM should fix that problem.

Sounds like the factory governor is engaging early… typically factory speed governors cut fuel at a predetermined RPM, while it’s better to cut timing (like MSD) so as not to run lean. Sounds like the RPM is set incorrectly, probably in the factory tune. It’s possible the car needs to be driven a certain distance of predetermined mileage for a break-in period.
It must be running better if you can drive to an undisclosed location in Mexico and back to Tampa overnight.

Similar issue was going with my 392 with the lunging forward, didn’t do it all of the time. It was the module that controlled TCS was fried by a bad ground, was causing intermediate strange issues with shifting and hanging up in high rpms, lunging, and engine braking went it should’ve been coasting etc. Was all the one module.
This make me wonder if the Demon 170 is even worth it. If it’s going to be so inconsistent, is it really that good of a car?
I’m a boosted car owner and it runs on full ethanol. Honestly you might be dealing with an annoying fuel system clog, problem or it’s overboosting for some reason on the top end. Could be down to tuning. Sounds like a loose wastegate faulty wastegate
Most enthusiasts modify their vehicles. I am not familiar with the D170 but assume their are tuning devices that can remove the restrictions. I assume you want to keep the vehicle stock for warranty reasons as it has already paid off with an engine. Interested in hearing what was the issue.
Custom mode is your best friend. Track transmission. Street everything else. Don't care what any other owners tell you. With this set up and traction on you can full throttle from a dig with little to no rear wheel spin. If you let it get up to 40 at about 70% throttle you can step on it fully after that and it will be a softer but quicker launch And the supercharger will kick in right when you step on her
Also I've seen more than 1 demon 170 hit 155 in the quarter so it will let you go past 149 but for a limited amount of time.
Look at the bright side, you can make videos about the inevitable class action lawsuit on the 170's.

Love your videos. I'm sorry Racer X but my 2022 Scatpack would smoke the Deom 170 in a long run. Definitely not worth the price.
After 1320 feet you are not wrong. 170 is a quarter mile car. Scat Pack is just getting going at the end of a quarter mile. If you like 9 seconds of adrenaline get the 170. Everything else get the Scat or Cat.
Any car that can go over 135 would smoke the Demon 170 in the long run!
I heard the driveshaft in these cars is only limited to about 150mph or so, so even if you put street tires on the car and remove the speed limiter apparently if you go fast enough the driveshaft could break, penetrate the cabin and cause injury to the occupant(s). I'm not kidding, that is what a Demon customer claims Dodge has said. The car is only able to go over 150mph for a short period of time, just long enough to trap the quarter mile at 151.

Watching the video I felt like the transmission was causing the problem high hp hellcats seem to have a problem with shifting 5 to 6 or at least my old one did along with few others
My 87 stock non turbo supra did 150 here in Alberta on highway 2
Your speedo is off.
The Turbo was suppose to run about 155 or so, mine was 10 mph slower ... 145 was a struggle.

FWIW, I am running HP Tuners with my 2016 Challenger SRT392, the Speedometer Limiter is editable and the default value for my car is 186mph. I'd assume your Demon 170 has the same type of setting within the ECM. I did have to switch to a Diablo Sport ECM that is not encrypted for HP Tuners to function.
Looks like the rev limiter is kicking in. Try to manually shift it.
Added: My Challenger acted just like that sometimes, and that’s what was happening. Hope you get it sorted out.
