This Could Take on the Steam Deck

- The Zotac Zone has a lot of potential of being an amazing handheld that can take the Steam Deck head-on because of the many features that it has. During my short time with it at Computex, I really enjoyed the play session that I had. I hope that I can really dive deep after getting a review unit and seeing firsthand how things really are.
So far, after checking out the handheld, I liked my first impressions, but I want to spend more time with it.
What do you guys think about this handheld?

Steam is doing wonders for the Linux OS. I'm hoping all the Windows handhelds put a fire under Microsoft to start putting some effort into optimizing Windows OS for handhelds.
Sadly they're more likely to push the xbox os onto their own handheld, which will kinda suck as you'll only have the ms store and game pass.
just installed steam os (bazzite) on my legion go, absolute game changer
Bro happily accepts his baldness lmao 🤣🤣
Heck yeah.
Really excited for this one!
I think the battery is on the small side.
Agreed. I think it's pretty small too. Makes me a little concerned.
Doesn't bother me, I have a 65W Anker and 65 Belkin charger, both with PPS support. One in my backpack including a 2 meter cable. The other 65W at home. I don't want less performance, when paying this much.
Isn't it more than every other handheld released ?
@@user-ds8rj2vc4v no. Technically the PC handheld with the largest battery that's been released is the MSI Claw, but the ASUS ROG Ally X is going to be nuts with its 80wHr size.
@@baldlyrudy
I wasn't considering the Ally X because it wasn't released yet.
Almost what I'm looking for. Add VRR and bigger battrey and I'd take it.
Great video Rudy! The screen still is the thing I’m gushing over. AMOLED is impressive tech.
Its an interesting time for handhelds but at the end of the day it's the price, ergonomics, ui and ux experience and performance.
Hopefully it's priced well first, though the trackpads looks too low lol
I love the control layout!
Another smaller screen? I thought more companies would go in the LLG direction. I can't go back to a 7 inch screen.
Personally, I don't really see a point in using displays bigger than 7" on a device that doesn't have dedicated GPU. Hell, even 1080p is too much in my opinion - 7" 800p feels like a sweetspot for me.
7 inch AMOLED is fine. LLG is too big.
@user-ds8rj2vc4v I work nightshift security with a lot of down time, so do use it a lot. The bigger screen suits my needs better. I mostly game on Series X and PS5 at home. I don't own a PC.
@bugbuster8598 I use it a lot in work though so prefer the bigger screen. When I'm at home I don't use it much. I'm mostly on PS5 and series x.
@@artvandelayRFC that explains why you'd prefer a bigger display.
For me the playstation 4/5 d-pad is good so the other handheld consoles should use it...
What do you mean by portrait screen?
As on the screen is natively supposed to be vertical and not horizontal. It can lead to weird glitches.
@@baldlyrudy ah got ya. Bummer.
Heck yeah brotha! Good freaking video
huge fan mate!
Hey! Thanks man. Appreciate it. 🙌
Looks pretty good. Hopefully they boost the battery size a bit before it makes it to launch.
Can you please confirm if the location of the trackpad makes it useless in actual gaming sessions, particularly in FPS/Third or in any games that have trackpad control the camera will benefit?
What OS does it run on?
It ships with Windows.
Does this run steam os? Or is everyone just comparing it to a steam deck, Cause has 2 track pads lol
Nope. It's a Windows PC, but you can install SteamOS.
Hey now it has leveled sticks like the steam deck too 😂
That dpad izza definite no no.....
❤❤❤
They’re throwing their hat into the space?
sir i hope there will be gforce now os too
I'm definitely interested, but it would have to be competitively priced to the Ally and legion
It’s the same price as the rog ally x that just got announced.
@@iamghostwitagun3800then the ally x wins imo
Steamdeck is more then an handheld. SteamOS and Valves commitment to it to make a better gaming experience has to be taken into account. Asus and others and factories, they make handhelds but its up to you to solve windows errors and compatibility headaches
What windows errors? I was forced to solve linux errors and compatibility headaches when i wanted to mod (viva new vegas), install side games (offline DAI copy) and games from other launchers (alan wake and witcher 2 from gog not launching, gog witcher 3 not loading textures, hzd from epic not launching, etc). Even some steam games (steam dai refusing to launch without first going into desktop mode, not supporting xinput and constant stutters without custom proton that didn't exist till a couple of months ago). While on windows it's just double click to install and play.
@@Kaylas1821 All facts bro. There is a lot of limitations and compatibility issues in steamdeck. I think the competition is between Ally, Legion go, ayaneo, one X player, GDP win, MSI claw and this new device ZOTEK. Steamdeck is just popular because it is made by Valve but it is lacking power, and compatibility.
@@nathanjuan6042 and until the ally x announce - battery life. And for a while it's gonna be the only one handheld optimized for low tdp performance. Waiting for new apus that are made for handhelds, not laptops. Oh and trackpads are a game changer for me as a kbm guy.
Windows is always the big question mark with these handhelds. What makes the Steamdeck so awesome is SteamOS. I like the look of it and everything but it if it doesnt deliver on the experience while still costing $700+ (which Im sure it will), then there is no difference between this and an ROG Ally/Legion Go
Don’t know why hate for windows on these handhelds been using rog ally for a year now never had any issues I’m able to resume my games after few days even. Maybe I just use it only for games nothing else

I have my Ally for 6 months now and I never experienced any issues. I don't even know what's the problem with windows that you guys are complaining about. Once I open my ally it goes straight to Armory Crate which all games are located. Installing is easy as well.
Anything heavier than the Ayaneo Air 1S is not worth it. I bought the ASUS ROG Ally, thinking it would be fun to play games on it, but it's really heavy. Maybe you can tolerate the weight for 15 minutes at most, but your hands will definitely get tired. 😂
I regret buying the ROG Ally. The battery life also sucks on all current handhelds except the Nintendo Switch.
I want something as light as the Nintendo Switch or the Ayaneo Air 1S. 🙏☹️
BATTERY LIFE. Otherwise. Flop.
Man steam put in the work to make games compatible with Linux and with that, all these hardware companies seem to want to do is shove Windows at us. The absolute battery killer OS
Content is usually great but no it won’t kill steam deck lol. It’s still windows. It used a form that steam deck already made so that’s inspiration from them. Plus it’s not that Linux is the better choice even if it works better in some cases, it’s how they implemented the separate desktop and their console style steam OS. Battery efficiency and my favorite thing, sleep mode. No other windows device had come near the sleep function. Just stop on a game you’re playing with sleep mode and immediately jump back in no lag no nothing just an immediate back to the game. It’s perfect for someone like me that works 12hrs a day and can only game 30min-1hr on breaks and I don’t have to boot up the device like on windows or wait for windows to take its time booting up. The trackpads aren’t exactly a deal breaker because I don’t normally use them on my steam deck but those that do it’s there for them and it’s very useful for desktop mode which I do use for work. No other device has come anywhere close to how efficient the device is overall. It’s not about how powerful it is, it’s about how efficient it can be
Depends on your use case some people prefer windows some people prefer Steam OS. There is no problem in windows its just that your preference or use case is suited in steam OS. I prefer windows because it has no limitations having my ROG ally that can play any games in 1080p is a breeze installing any launchers and any games because it is windows and there is no compatibility issues. Having that extra power 20wats to 30wats to play any modern AAA games. Playing gamepass games, epic games, and steam games. Like I said its all about your use case. Stop with the hate with windows there is nothing wrong with windows there is a lot of people that prefer windows over linux or steamOS.
@@nathanjuan6042 your comment id correct but there is no hate for windows here lol, but great job on the statement!
I only emulate on my deck now, i actually used the track pads for path of exile, but Helldiver's 2 drove me to the Legion go, so I think tracpads on this is a great addition. The screen though and webcam are a deal breaker.
Wao nice video Rudy but @this point it’s a lot of handheld’s device competition my opinion steam deck still the king and legion go
Needs strix point, at least 24g of ram and work with glorious eggroll to get Nobara OS to run natively. Then they could charge up to $1000 and i would buy it.
why is there a webcam though😂
🤷♂️
@@baldlyrudy it deffo can be useful buuuuut on a system that is being sold as a gaming handheld system
is it realising world wide
Yes.
Even in South Africa
@@ElieUnknown CEO said it's a worldwide release, and South Africa is part of the world. I'd say yes.
"“Ever since the establishment of the ZOTAC GAMING brand, we have strived to provide an unmatched gaming experience for enthusiasts worldwide,” Said Tony Wong, Chief Executive Officer of ZOTAC. “We have made considerable efforts to raise the bar with our debut handheld, tailor-made with competitive features for all gamers.”"
They seriously need to reduce those thick ugly bezels
Om I'm sure they're saving it for the second version
@adamk3306 you're probably right.
The Steam Deck is Portrait. Correct?
I think the original one was but not the OLED but i may be wrong
Both the Deck and Deck OLED are portrait. The gamescope compositor provided from SteamOS though, makes all games played on it only see a landscape screen in gaming mode
That bezel is thicker than a 600 lbs person.
Only 16gb ram 🤢
>double the price
No, it can't.
i wouldn’t buy a zotac graphics card i sure as hell wouldn’t buy a handheld. i stick with OLED steam deck
If it doesnt have 80whr battery, then no.
I definitely agree that 80whr will be the standard leading forward.
First minute
OLED means no VRR, means unplayable imo
That is, unless they're willing to skyrocket the cost of the device.
@@baldlyrudy yeah which they won't 😅 so i would prefere a Solid lcd Panel with VRR than the best OLED without xd
@@kewa_design fair. I'm just saying OLED ≠ No VRR.
My oled TV syncs 40-120Hz
@@_TrueDesire_ exactly.
Looks like a cheap steam deck ripped off
No, no it couldn't. The reason the Deck is as successful as it is is Steam OS, the fact that it is supported by the largest videogame marketplace with constant updates as well as specific updates to optimize popular games, the community support and finally its price.
I feel that the Steam Deck will only be dethroned by a Steam Deck 2..
