GREAT review buddy! I know I don't need this, I already own an RP3+, Odin and a RG351V which is AWESOME, it feels GREAT, it's slightly larger but it also means it feels better in the hand, but it just doesn't have the power to play all the N64 and Dreamcast games, so I'm looking for a handheld that can! And that doesn't break the bank, has video out, dual os, analog sticks... The only thing that's holding me back is the size mixed with those analog sticks. I'm sure if it had dual analog sticks for the RG351V it would have no problem. I dunno! Money is tight these days ugh... Think I may just wait till they have a huge sale. Again, great review! Thanks!
Thanks! There are a lot of great handhelds that are coming out as of late that run N64 and Dreamcast pretty well. I haven't gotten my hands on it, but the RG40XX looks really good.
I have the RG353M model. I prefer the form factor over the RG353V. Honestly the aluminum body, the Hall effect sticks and running Daijisho on it have made it my daily driver. It just didn’t get the love it deserved by reviewers. Would love to see it put up against the new RG35XX H.
my friend maybe its the price for the v model. for the vs model (with android os) the price is 140 euros. for the linux version in the link you give its 116 euros. not even close to 99 usd. for 89.90 usd you get retroid 2s..
I love these longform videos, I hope you do more like this. This was really helpful, but I will say 240P just looks so bad. 480p is a night and day difference to me. I really wish this thing had just a little bit stronger CPU so I could upscale n64 games to at least 480p with no FPS loss because this is my favorite design for one of these handhelds. Also the touch will work for DS on the android side but not with the linix side
I went in with no real budget set and ended up going for the Anbernic RG353V. It feel like one of the closest replicas to the gameboy that can play a ton more games thanks to the dual sticks.
My friend what do you mean by it being almost a year old? Isn't this system meant to emulate decade old games? Handhelds that could do it 5 years ago could do it 1 year ago and can do it presently. I don't know the point here brother?
I didn't buy this for its power. I wanted something that felt like an ultimate Gameboy for Gameboy line of games and older 4:3 systems like NES, SNES and Genesis. The Gameboy form factor makes me actually finish games for some reason and the screen on this is stunning in person.
The online Western community- not the Chinese manufacturers, have achieved greatness with Onion OS on the Miyoo Mini. THAT is the greatest achievement in gaming I've EVER seen. The community has made the Miyoo Mini the greatest handheld of all time.
told you yesterday I bought the R36S. Well then I saw a comparison with the RG353VS and it ran the harder to play games better and had wifi and also more powerful and has a HDMI out put. So i went and bought one of those as well. lol I am broke. But I messed up and bought one with no games so will I be able to clone my R36S 128 gb game card to the new 128 GB sd card I ordered and just put that straight into the RG353VS? I hope so. I must be mad I have 2 retro consoles on the way .lol I didn't really want the android. tbh. apparently the extra 1 gb ram doesn't make any difference to games I heard.
Yes! Sorry about not including that. You just have to connect your device to wifi, press start, and go to scraper. From there you have a few options. Box2D is pretty solid, IMO. You just need to put in your username and password for screen scraper.
Hate to disagree with the thumbnail, but I don't think this device has held up well. It's still one of the nicer vertical handhelds you can get, but as far as actual functional gaming sustems go, when it comes to price versus performance, the retroid pocket 2S is just better. Hall effect sticks, dual firing speakers, a touch screen on the 99 dollar model, (not a thing on the similarly priced linux only version of the 353), a stronger processor, and it has analog hall effect triggers, too.
@@baldlyrudy I do think there's a place in the market for the 353v, but it's going to need a price cut for it to remain competitive, I feel. I think 50-65 dollars would be a nice sweet spot. It would put the device in the "giftable" price range, like the R36S, but more premium feeling, in exchange for it costing slightly more.
Hate to disagree (I don't) but personal opinion doesn't equate to "not holding up well". Personally I think all Retroid handhelds so far, including the company itself are lame
Personally I prefer the rg351v over the rg353v because it looks more like a gameboy, and If need I twin sticks I'd rather use my rg405v which has a better processor that can actually make use of the controls. That being said every handheld is cute in it's own way.
Never understood the reason to have two analog sticks, the right one is useless, for the games you can play on it. If the device can run AA games from , PS2 - Gamecube, than sure, it needs them, but in this case, is a waste of space, one on the left was enogugh.
@@eatereater6312Well... The R36S is like 50 dollars cheaper. And for the price of 99 dollars, you can get a retroid pocket 2S 3g model. It can do everything the 353V can do, but with a horizontal form factor, analog triggers, dual speakers, and Hall effect sticks. Oh, right. The 2S has better performance, too.

I bought the 353v the first month it came out. It's still going strong and i play it nearly every day. I freaking LOVE this thing.
Wow, this seems kinda sick! I travel a lot and I bought a steam deck, but this might be a more convenient alternatives for shorter trips. Great vid!
Thanks bud! Much appreciated. 🙌

My touchscreen on the RG353V stopped working 2 days after I received it. The Linux side still works as designed.
I use the extra analog sticks as shortcuts for settings and menus
Maybe I missed it, but where are you buying this for 99$? It’s 135$ in the affiliate link.
$99 is the price at AliExpress.

Your best bet is the Retroid Pocket 4 or 4 pro.

@@landenstewart4289 RP4 Pro doesn't do Xbox. Also PS2 emulator stopped being developed on Android, so it is far from perfect, even on the Odin 2.
