Need to keep the trackpads. Not every game can be played with a gamepad and the trackpad come in clutch for those. Also, their control layout looks a little awkward. They should just copy the Steam Deck layout and stop trying to be unique for the sake of being different. The controls are grouped too low on the device which means you'll need to hold it at the very bottom for the arc of your thumb to hit all the buttons/controls. There's a reason the Steam Deck's controls are grouped in an arc near the top of the device and these manufacturers need to build for ergonomics first, and appearance second.
The 800p screen on the oled is super sharp on games even at 7.4 inch. Much sharper than a 24 inch 1080p screen. They shouldve just used the steam deck screen to lower cost

The screen is so small and windows is just shit. Look at how steamdeck does it and copy that. They have amazing suspend and resume modes, and really good battery life/optimizations. You can also use manjaro's gaming edition (whenever that comes out) since they're also making their own handheld and using manjaro for it (its called orange pi neo).

Legit.
Trackpads as both huge MMO Action Sets.
Menu-Mouse-Movement by Etch-A-Sketch controls.
Actual Genius.
I hope Valve and everyone else takes notes!
It looks like a Wish version of the steam deck... Man, Zotac outdid themselves this time around. This is hilarious.
My steam deck has the same design with the d pad and joysticks..
I am extremely excited for this product. Im a fan of zotac and am highlt considering this upon release, or even preorder
Okay 👌🏽 that's good it has two track pads
The design is fire so far! Smaller bezels please!
Nice to see they are using symmetrical layout, but not a fan of that d-pad
I bet it's pretty comfortable to use, considering that the symmetrical layout is similar to the Steam Decks...who did it FIRST
Hopefully this Zone comes in more colors than grey.
They can ditch the camera my phone already has enough of those
Harvest data. Eye tracking on games.
The 800p screen on the oled is super sharp on games even at 7.4 inch. Much sharper than a 24 inch 1080p screen. They shouldve just used the steam deck screen to lower cost
Thanks for quick review, especially comparing sizes.... have not, however, managed to catch OLED LCD resolution as well as battery specs..... Docking station DP and more USBs is not very convincing. Any mid range Baseus USB hub will be better...
Smell test is also a plus xD
ZOTAC has come a long way. This is the best looking handheld yet...with OLED out of the gate and 2280 support. Fantastic!
It needs to be dock able like the switch
Minor changes needed for production unit:
-screen bezel is massive
-more ram, 24gb
-oled with vrr
-button wiggle is very bad
-60whr battery should be minimum
-is dpad mod-able/changable layouts
-tactile grips along the triggers & bumpers
-downward facing speaker location is nonsensical
-make the trigger & bumper colors black, not silver
Not gonna happen this basically final maybe on the zone 2
wjy would they give tdp change options if the display isn't vrr?
What is the price?
Only valve understood the assignment. Also 7inch is getting too small 8 inch is the new sweet spot, GET RID OF THOSE BEZEL GOD DAMMIT
jesus those bezels. i got bamboozled wt first. the black bezels blended in with the screen being off
8.4in is the sweet spot, everything is more engaging with that size
Very good and complete review
Two tackpads, hell yeah.
MTs rating good job, not using MHz for DDR5 is correct.
Prety cool. Good to see competition. It leads to progress.
Looking forward that my next device for gaming that i buy in the future be one of them portable consoles like this one.
I still want some more battery life.
2-3 hours of playing games is too little.
Here is some feedback: the d-pad looks effing tacky!
**** Microsoft, I don't want a camera on my console
20:02 Ah, yes, the ultimate determiner of a good PC device is the sniff test.
pc handheld devices is going to explode like wild fire once alot more people catch on that they exist
Very thoughtful design, i like the color scheme too. Don't like the track pad though, .
Some of these pc makers need to correct their hardware specs because doing the math in some of them doesn’t add up for instance the amd’s rdna 3 based Z1 extreme SoC gpu says it runs at 2700 MHz n up 8.6 tflops in dual issue single precision numbers but in order to hit 8.6 tflops the gpu in the SoC needs to run at 2800 MHz , at 2700 MHz the FP32 dual issue precision would 8.29 tflops not 8.6 , to get 8.6 tflops the 12 dual issue CUs need to run at 2800 MHz or 2. 8 GHz not 2.7 which confuses customers so does the z1 extreme SoC’s 12 dual issue CUs gpu run at 2.7 or 2.8 GHz because the math doesn’t add up amd , 12 dual issue CUs running at 2.7 GHz gives u 8.29 tflops n running at 2.8 GHz gives u 8.6 tflops , u can’t say it goes up to 8.6 tflops but runs at 2.7 GHz , the math don’t add up
those touch pads are very useful on the steam deck, if they make it work the same way then I'm in :)
One of the more important aspects for a handheld would be the battery life, so this is certainly a "wait and see" kinda thing.
It's larger than the ROG Ally and on-par with the Steam Deck in size.
The Ally X will be larger, and the reduced TDP of the Steam Deck means that it could in theory get more battery life - but at lower performance.
Doesn't windows 11 consume more battery than SteamOS/Linux? Or is it not that significant
I would have preferred if the controllers were separate like the Lenovo Legion Go so that it can be used as a tablet
This handheld already won in my book especially were the analogs are place like playstation controller i am actually shock! someone in the tech company was using there membrane in development of this beautiful piece of work!
Zotac, please use Linux for your handheld. Windows is not a good UI for handhelds. I tried asus, msi and other windows based handhelds in a store and I was immediately put off from every one of them.
I love how it has the PlayStation layout. Almost like as if Sony put more time into the PlayStation Portal and made it more like an actual handheld PS5 than a streaming device.
That D-Pad though... It doesn't look too hot. But the rest of the device looks AMAZING, especially when it's design is comparable to the Steam Deck.
Im happy to see more competition but there are way too many copycats with the same APUs.
The only thing thats important is the power of the 8840u and the batterylife. I just preordered my Ally X because I have an Ally and the batterylife sucks. If the Zotac hadn't the OLED and a VRR + good batterylife and performance it would have been my favourite device in the PC handheld market.
Needs choose of 16 or 24 gb ram
The bezel and VRR
They should have gone with more RAM since it doubles as VRAM. I exceed 16GB RAM usage while gaming in a few different games and that is with a dGPU not using system RAM.
I own an ROG Ally and don't think I'll buy another handheld until DLSS/Frame Gen is on them.
dpad and action buttons on top
analog joysticks in the middle
and trackpads on the bottom
YES!
