I’ll admit that I avoided the motions controls at first, but once I embraced them, dude! Anything I can do normally, the motion controls made me do it a minute faster!
Man, honestly my biggest disappointment with that game was the severe lack of quality & content in the alternate route stages. To reach them typically you had to find a portal in the mission you’re in, which instantly and abruptly ends the mission you’re in. And they’re typically only like either half the size of a main route mission (like being just a boss fight for instance). They felt off. And then the gyro-copter vehicle. Like, on the one hand I actually do love the thing and the levels they’re in...but on the other hand, they’re do really kill the pace of a typical Star Fox run. It will obviously do better because on Wii U you had to use the gamepad for gimmick reasons. But Switch has no gamepad so it's easily a better experience.
I just wonder how feasible it’d be. Like, I was going to say that it’d be easy - just have a button you press to switch views - but thinking about it I remember there being a couple bosses where that may not work, specifically the ones where in the outer view you’re literally flying to the left or right of the screen. What happened to the laser reticle when you switch between the two extremes during those fights?
I'd rather they make a new game instead of porting a reimagining of a reimagining for the umpteenth time. Plus the framework of the wii u isn't the same as the Switch, they're not going to get rid of the motion controls because the game was made with them in mind.
As someone who just beat Seven Sirens today after binging it ALL of yesterday, I legit fist pumped hearing that it was Johnny's next stop. I can certainly say it almost felt like WayForward watched his previous videos from how it plays.
I'm okay with Miyu and Fay, but they are pretty flat blank characters due to the nature of StarFox 1 and 2 being even more bare bones with the characters than the rest of the series.
Maybe Nintendo could take the time to stop remaking or ruining Star Fox 1 and remake Star Fox 2, keeping the characters in the game instead of ditching them in Command. Just, remake this at a frame rate that doesn't suck and also NO, SILLY, GIMMICKS.
That would require Nintendo actually wanting to move the goddamn canon forward instead of just re-re-re-re-re-rehashing Starfox 64 for the gazillionth time.
Yeah those two and Krystal which makes 3 could bring some nice girl power to the Star Fox team. Give them meaningful roles and personalities to liven up the squad.
Nearly everything that Star Fox 2 does Command (and partially Zero) does too, so for anyone interested in these mechanics in a less clunky game should definitely check that out. It's sad that they didn't give Miyu and Fay another chance in more recent games. As I said, most mechanics have been explored in other titles, but those characters got lost entirely in time, which feels to me like some wasted potential to expand the cast.
Ooof, no, not Command. Even Johnny said this game is better to be played than that. And for good reasons. The only thing I can give Command credit for, is it having more varied ships and playable characters than Star Fox 2, but that's all it has going for it. As for Miyu and Fay, as other's had said and it being pointed out, they kind of more or less have been replaced by the newer characters. One of them by Krystal, and the other (or the same one) by Katt.
I'd be cool if they made a Star Fox sequel set in the cannon of SF1-2 so we can see the other two members of Star Fox return. Better than another reboot
Great review! It was so awkward not having lock-on shots when I first played this. And thank you for the Star Fox Zero appreciation! Sometimes the negativity surrounding that game becomes quite overwhelming.
I love your videos man. One thing about your channel I love so much is that I can be watching one review and you mention another game and then I want to watch that review. For example, I just finished watching your RE 4 video Thursday morning and right after it, you uploaded your Round 2 Star Fox 2 video. After watching it, that lead to me watching all your Star Fox videos Saturday morning. Now you got me playing Star Fox 64, I love that game, especially the 3DS Remake since that is how I first experienced the game back in 2011.
I feel Star Fox Zero is beyond salvaging to be honest. In my opinion, they should re-use a ton of it's assets and make a new game like they did with Paper Mario: Color Splash. Origami King uses so much from Color Splash, you can easily tell. Splatoon 2 is sort of another example.
11:45 I love ya, Johnny, but I'mma have to disagree with you here. Star Fox Zero failed because it was a shooter in which the devs purposefully gimped the aiming in order to shove a hardware gimmick down our throats. That's just bad game design. Make no mistake, I'd love to see Star Fox Zero come to Switch, but only if they actually...you know...made the game good.
People at the time were constantly bitching for Nintendo to utilize the gamepad and when they did they were criticized for it. I can agree that adding an analog aiming option for those uninterested in the gyroscope would have been a good way to make the game more accessible but I firmly believe it's hated due to gaming journalists giving it a prematurely bad reputation. You don't see people giving Zelda shit for gyroscope bow aiming. It's Zero's lack of additional content to warrant a 50 dollar purchase that bothers me, not so much the game design itself.
@@toamatoro570 I understand where you're coming from. I think Zelda's inclusion of gyro aiming enhanced the experience without sacrificing anything to do so. Star Fox Zero's issue is that they actively made aiming inaccurate where it wasn't before, just to force people to use a far less fluent scheme. But you raise an excellent point that the amount of content for price wasn't what people expected in the modern year of the time. More original content and greater control options would have helped this game tremendously.
I still believe that the reason Starfox 2 was finally and officially released was because of the Wii U and Starfox Zero bombing in sales. SF2 was always hinted as an influence for SF0 despite it being initially canceled. Once the NES mini and SNES mini hit the shelves, they finally had a reason (or maybe an excuse) to release the game and regain financial losses.
Woke = Starfox Zero on Switch. ASCENDED = Starfox 2 Remake! I really want Miyu and Fay as part of the actual Starfox Team, not that I hate Krystal I actually love them all. We were robbed of two very interesting Female Team Members all because Miyamoto wanting to rehash it a lot and use Starfox to show off a Console’s capabilities. But yeah Miyu and Fay deserve a proper introduction to the series like Krystal had in Adventures.
How is Star Fox 64 "better in every way" when it's a completely different genre? It's a linear rail-shooter when Star Fox 2 is a RTS with shooter and light dungeon crawling elements. I think 2 is more than unique enough to warrant its existence, and for me to recommend it. I love 64, but it's comparing apples to oranges.
If they re-release Zero, they would have to rebalance the motion control so it's optional like in the 3DS version of 64, because let's be real, motion control is not for everybody, and having multiple options on how you want to play the game is always better.
Hopefully the future Star Fox game will do retconny shit to make the OG Star Fox, 2, the ongoing series, and Zero all canon. I know that’s be like a 13th labor of Hercules, but it pisses me off that these are a billion timelines.
You forgot to mention that you no longer have lives like you did in the original. Yes, you can continue with your partner if you die but it's not really the same thing.
Zero is one of the most criminally underrated and misunderstood games Nintendo has ever put out. It definitely does deserve a proper chance on the vastly more popular Switch.
Finally another round 2 video. I love seeing these games revisited and seeing your current and updated opinion. Also patiently awaiting the videos on the other Mario rpgs like Paper Mario and M&L. You already did Super Paper Mario YEARS AGO, so why not do the others (or at least the good ones)? It doesnt have to be a marathon, rpgs are taxing enough. But I'd love to see your input into these games.
10:58 - Can someone explain what Johnny meant by "Don't Krystal-ize them"? 🤔 I'm having a hard time telling if he's implying that she was bad in more ways than the Kursed-twist in Command.
I have actually used a wireless Bluetooth headset now and I realized that it destroys my wifi because both Bluetooth and wifi runs on the same frequency. With it, streams I have been watching buffers way more. UA-cam videos lags more often and the best proof, my ps4 had 2.1 download with BT and 124 without. So, yeah..that's my heads up to anyone interested in a BT headphone. Unless these rayco earbuds works on a different frequency and doesn't mess with the wifi.
You should check out Starlink on the Switch. It's definitely underrated. It plays a lot like Star Fox 2 and the Star Fox content is actually pretty decent. It could almost be a sequel to SF2. The digital version comes with everything you need so you don't need to buy any of the toys. It's a fun but repetitive game overall but definitely worth checking out!
Awww, i think Starlink gets a bad rap undeservedly, and especially cuz the starfox content is a highlight. But no pressure in covering it if not interested, would rather see a review not done under pressure if it can be helped
There's an artist named Picti on twitter who makes fantastic Miyu 3D art XD It is lewd tho.... I only learned the character wasn't an OC like a few days ago.
I’m glad he’s doing one on Star Fox 2. I hope John does a round 2 on kh3. I’d love to hear what he thinks of the new moves, critical mode, and the remind content that helps out with the story.
Wonder if we could see a Round 2 video on Shovel Knight since it got it's final bits of improvement to the game and final campaign in the Treasure Trove pack?
What I don't like about the official release version is the fact that the lock-on feature was taken out from the start of the game. It makes the hardest difficulty outright awful sometimes. IT gave the coins some purpose, but it was obnoxious and it would have been cool for the coins to unlock alternate ships or something. The strategy map is something future games should include, though. It made the game so intense.
Starlink was actually a pretty good starfox game on the switch . specially after the star fox expansion was definitely worth getting and you can get it pretty cheap now.
in regards to starlink, its not bad, i got about 70 quids worth of parts inc base game for 15 quid. i could see a starfox game succesfully being made from this gameplay style, and yes, the arwing model is the best part.

Nope. That ship has already sailed. No need to go back.
I'd rather they make a new game instead of porting a reimagining of a reimagining for the umpteenth time. Plus the framework of the wii u isn't the same as the Switch, they're not going to get rid of the motion controls because the game was made with them in mind.
@@awkwardsilence4427 I mean, there was a button that did that. And it does work on all bosses, on switching said views from the two screens.
That's crazy! I was legit watching your Starfox 1 and 2 before you uploaded this!!
Out of all the games to get a Round 2, I definitely didn't see this one coming.
10:44 Thanks for mentioning it, I would love to see fay and miyu in more sequels with more personality between them
Ikr.
I can see Miyu as the female cocky badass and Fay as the cutie of the team
@@meganinten0078 That's fairly accurate, fay comes from a rich family
@@pflynn12 I can already imagine her doin' a "Certain" laugh...
Yes, I'd like them and Krystal to come back and let Peppy be mission control
I'm so glad Johnny has sponsors. John is a legit UA-camr
Johnny: I don't think Zero flopping was the game's fault...
Ryan: *FLIPS ALL THE SHITS*
As someone who just beat Seven Sirens today after binging it ALL of yesterday, I legit fist pumped hearing that it was Johnny's next stop. I can certainly say it almost felt like WayForward watched his previous videos from how it plays.
Miyu and Fay deserve to return in a new Star Fox game but with good personalities
Full agree, Miyu is the best StarFox character design (and I'd love for more artists to be inspired to draw her.. hue hue)
Fay deserves more love.
Can Fay have a Noblewoman's Laugh?
I'm okay with Miyu and Fay, but they are pretty flat blank characters due to the nature of StarFox 1 and 2 being even more bare bones with the characters than the rest of the series.
Yeah, Miyu, Fay, and Krystal could definitely round out the tropish boys with issues.
Maybe Nintendo could take the time to stop remaking or ruining Star Fox 1 and remake Star Fox 2, keeping the characters in the game instead of ditching them in Command. Just, remake this at a frame rate that doesn't suck and also NO, SILLY, GIMMICKS.
Can we please crowdfund enough money to convince Nintendo to bring the lovely Fay and Miyu back into the mainline Star Fox canon?
That would require Nintendo actually wanting to move the goddamn canon forward instead of just re-re-re-re-re-rehashing Starfox 64 for the gazillionth time.
Andrevus Whitetail sad but true
Yeah those two and Krystal which makes 3 could bring some nice girl power to the Star Fox team. Give them meaningful roles and personalities to liven up the squad.
Some call him Johnny…
But what do others call him
i would like to see Johnny live streaming himself raging at Expert
Nearly everything that Star Fox 2 does Command (and partially Zero) does too, so for anyone interested in these mechanics in a less clunky game should definitely check that out.
It's sad that they didn't give Miyu and Fay another chance in more recent games. As I said, most mechanics have been explored in other titles, but those characters got lost entirely in time, which feels to me like some wasted potential to expand the cast.
I like Miyu and Fay.
They deserve to return in a new game.
Miyu looks like a badass and Fay is so cutie
Ooof, no, not Command. Even Johnny said this game is better to be played than that. And for good reasons. The only thing I can give Command credit for, is it having more varied ships and playable characters than Star Fox 2, but that's all it has going for it.
As for Miyu and Fay, as other's had said and it being pointed out, they kind of more or less have been replaced by the newer characters. One of them by Krystal, and the other (or the same one) by Katt.
@@meganinten0078 Miyu and Fay got replaced by Bill and Katt
Maybe if they make a new game?
I hope so them along with Krystal could really improve the cast.
"Music connoisseurs... Snoop Dog".
I died a little inside.
It would be awesome if there was a animated Star Fox series in the style of the star fox zero short
Well there is Fox in Space, right
I'd be cool if they made a Star Fox sequel set in the cannon of SF1-2 so we can see the other two members of Star Fox return.
@@toamatoro570Star Fox is meant to be replayed over and over for high scores. It isn’t an RPG.
ASCENDED = Starfox 2 Remake!
Krystal didn't have a great introduction to StarFox except for in Assault. Which is where I came to love her character. I'm okay with Miyu and Fay.
The Star Fox content is the best part of Starlink IMO.
Funny to think they rereleased the cancelled game twice in just a few years
How is Star Fox 64 "better in every way" when it's a completely different genre? It's a linear rail-shooter when Star Fox 2 is a RTS with shooter and light dungeon crawling elements.
I think 2 is more than unique enough to warrant its existence, and for me to recommend it. I love 64, but it's comparing apples to oranges.
I've never been so happy to hear a Raycon advert after last video's Shudder
Star Fox 2 is the video game equivalent to the Snyder Cut.
It's wild to think that the first news I hear about the new Shantae coming out is from a Johnny Star Fox video.
God damn, the starfox marathon was 4 years ago. I can't believe it
Was not expecting this upload, great video! 👍
I'm having a hard time telling if he's implying that she was bad in more ways than the Kursed-twist in Command.
I think he means don’t sexualize them like how Krystal was sexualized.
The best thing about this is that this and SF1 is the only releases on the Switch...
Your reviews always make me feel so comfortable. Like being cozy at home chilling and chatting with a friend. Never change, Johnny :)
It's a fun but repetitive game overall but definitely worth checking out!
is it really taking away the homing shot if this is where it would have originated to begin with?
Zero was fun when not in all range mode😂(Peppys mission is an exception)
Awww, i think Starlink gets a bad rap undeservedly, and especially cuz the starfox content is a highlight. But no pressure in covering it if not interested, would rather see a review not done under pressure if it can be helped
Ah, Raycon. Johnny’s equivalent to James talking about the real threat being governments and corporations having access to your personal data...
Since Kingdom Hearts 3 got the RE:Mind DLC, it definitely needs a Round 2 video.
There's an artist named Picti on twitter who makes fantastic Miyu 3D art XD
It is lewd tho....
I only learned the character wasn't an OC like a few days ago.
10:59 Thank you. Leave out the stupid love drama stuff already, Nintendo. I'm here to play Star Fox, not watch a damn soap opera.
He's talking about female additions since the Star Fox crew have always been a male cast.
I’m glad he’s doing one on Star Fox 2. I hope John does a round 2 on kh3. I’d love to hear what he thinks of the new moves, critical mode, and the remind content that helps out with the story.
Awesome! I cannot wait a Johnny VS Streets of Rage series to come out next after Shantae.
Wonder if we could see a Round 2 video on Shovel Knight since it got it's final bits of improvement to the game and final campaign in the Treasure Trove pack?
Gotta love that good ol polygonal goodness.
A Round 2 video? I remember when you used to do those Johnny.
Funny this came up, considering I was randomly watching your Star Fox videos earlier today. 😅
I didn't expect this; I even forgot this game got a release.
I disagree, I think Star Fox 2 is tied with Star Fox 64 as the best game in the series, but you were respectful to it. Good video! C:
Starlink was actually a pretty good starfox game on the switch . specially after the star fox expansion was definitely worth getting and you can get it pretty cheap now.
in regards to starlink, its not bad, i got about 70 quids worth of parts inc base game for 15 quid. i could see a starfox game succesfully being made from this gameplay style, and yes, the arwing model is the best part.
I love this game I'm glad it was completed. Fay is the best 😁
"Cardi B, Snoop Dog, Melissa Ethridge......wait...... wtf.. Melissa Ethridge....??"
God damn, I love your videos, dude.
You should play Starlink. I've played through it as each member of Star Fox.
