    Hehe I know Tim didn't personally mind it, but having a VIP section in a Fallout game launch party and not designating the creator of the series as VIP is a bit funny. Thanks Tim, fun video.

    • @arcan762

      I imagine the VIP list was already a bit big. If you think that every(?) dev at Bethesda who worked on FO4 (at least) got VIP, that is already a lot of people. Then if you give Tim and everyone else who worked on FO1 at Interplay VIP too (plus all of their +1s), it becomes a lot of people and not very "VIP" anymore, so I can see why from an event management perspective.

    Tim mentioning the Fallout 3 party, Fallout 4 party, and the Fallout NV party in the same breath made me curious about whether or not there was a Fallout 76 launch party, but interestingly, after looking it up the immediate results were mostly about a West Virginia charity organization's fundraising event that used the game's launch as a publicity opportunity. Smart move on the charity's part, and cool on BGS's part for being cool with it. Still super interesting that was the first result.

    As an aspiring young artist/producer, it's surreal to think about a concept, an IP, a title; that you were the original genesis of becoming such a massive commercial venture, meaningful to so many people who were introduced to it through its new iterations. Especially decades after your creative involvement has largely ceased.
    It's really comforting to see someone expressing such excitement and appreciation for the work that the next generation has put into carrying a franchise forward. The idea of being one of the first people to work on programming a 2D "Mr Handy" sprite, to seeing that same sprite brought into three dimensions and constructed in the real world ~20 years later is an astonishing one. I hope to one day be able to see how my own creative contributions have shaped the artistic work of others

    10:16 -- Speaking of which, Tim, what are your thoughts on how the success of BG3 may affect the CRPG genre going forward? Do you think there's any chance publishers will be looking into reviving older IPs similar to Baldur's Gate (like Arcanum, Planescape, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights)?
    As a side note, I'm sure many of us will be interested to hear if you have any thoughts on BG3 in general -- did you play it? Is there anything in particular you liked or didn't like about the game? Are there any features or mechanics from BG3 that you hope to see in more CRPGs in the future?

    Kind of a joke that you, the literal creator of fallout, who gets a personal email from Todd, and is the reason any of that is even happening - who is LITERALLY the most Very Important Person there - isn't afforded a VIP pass. Honestly, quite a joke. Maybe they didn't want you somehow upstaging them or making a ruckass in the VIP? I don't know. If they actually knew you, from what I can see, then they should be fine. Either way, both this and the fallout 3 one sound like a lot of fun regardless.

    It’s a good gesture i think that the bethesda invite the one of the key member in Fallout games . I hope these kinds of traditions goes on . As myself i mostly like any Fallout games even those bethesda’s ones are not actually giving same feeling on orginal first 2 Fallout games, but still enjoyable games to play . The interesting thing i experienced in Fallout 4 is the game is released in 10 th of November in 2015 and this day is the national sorrow day of the Turkish Republic , our founded leader whose name is Mustafa Kemal Ataturk died in 10 th of November in 1938 , he re established ottoman empire into modernized Turkish Republic . While i was doing some quest in Fallout 4 , i realized that in the quest i’ve been doing the player suppose to find some golf ball and has to give it to the quest giver to compelete that quest , there is a thing that you can observe the ball itself in the game and i saw Ataturk’s signature in that ball . I don’t know even since how this signature involves in that game but most likely there can be some Turkish developer who is implemented into this game , because it’s release that quite a unique date for Turkish people or maybe someone else in this game studio knows about history very well :) It’s just a some quite experienced i would like to tell , nothing more :) . Thanks again sir for everything and wish you to have wonderfull life and to your loved ones

    Idk if this question is too specific but here goes: When making a RPG, is it easier to make when you are basing it in a TTRPG ruleset, like in Vampire and Temple or is it actually easier when doing your own thing like in Fallout and Arcanum?

    I mean, Microsoft now owns Activation, they own Sierra. Obsidian is owned by Microsoft, Bethesda is owned by Microsoft. The rights are in a place where if they wanted they could do something with Arcanum. It is a pre-existing IP, it has a cult following, all it really needs is someone in charge wanting to take advantage of it. Likely within a time frame to keep the trade mark if anything.

Do you think there should be regulations in place for minimum requirements to release yearly games? Sports games really take advantage of sports fans who I have noticed have very little knowledge of games in general.

Even I that consider myself a somewhat of hardcore CRPG gamer didn't know you created Arcanum up until I found your channel a couple months ago. I always thought Arcanum was inspired by Fallout, but never bothered to do some research on Troika. (also in the early 2000's it wasn't so easy to find info on the internet, the internet was tiny). I'm hoping Fallout 1 will still have it's No Clip episode featuring you, more youtube documentaries will be made about it and we will watch you talking to big youtubers, etc, hope you get more recognition for what you have created.

      I strongly disagree. While the launch version had it's fair share of issues, Fallout 4 GOTY on Survival mode is one of my favourite ways to experience that franchise. I highly recommend trying it again on survival. It's actually pretty crazy just how much better the game becomes and the whole thing is just oozing with atmosphere, incredible art direction and style... except the cartoony faces.. I am really not a fan of those.

      I think he said in a previous video that he hasn't played Fallout 76 due to the toxic environment on the Internet thing. That's actually why I don't play online games anymore, though I made an exception for 76 to check it out for myself. It has its merits, but you have to dig to find them and I dearly wish the original version was reworked and released as the SP w/co-op mode the community has always wanted with a separate title under a different name to differentiate it from the microtransaction nightmare version.

    • @occono3543

      @@lrinfi The bizarre thing is, even though there's a ton of....toxic terminal online people for Fallout (see the NV rants about the show. I love NV and it is my favourite but those guys are....incels and need to touch grass) but Fallout 76 genuinely has a pretty friendly environment. I'd put it and FF XIV on the same level of friendliness and everything else is more toxic. I wouldn't blame anyone for not believing that though, but 76 by virtue of being mocked to oblivion seemed to end up just with people happy to be there and it did wonders for bumping into other friendly players

    Hey Tim, have any thoughts or notes on the Fallout divergence from our world. There is quite a debate on when the divergence happens.

    • @lrinfi
      @lrinfi 11 місяців тому

      It's diverged? I didn't realize that. ;) That's what made Fallout special to me. It's original lore is unrivaled (in video games, at least) as a fictionalized reflection of our real-world, present timeline and the retrofuturistic art style is perfect for it. It's the loss of that I lament in the modern Fallouts.

    • @ChadVulpes
      @ChadVulpes 11 місяців тому

      @@lrinfi Clearly, Fallout world is different enough that the USA invaded Canada, nuclear power was the primary way to acquire energy, and computers were still huge machines ran with tape and (probably)punch cards. That was established in the first game. You really have to reach or be purposefully obtuse to pretend that the timeline didn't diverge since the inception of this setting.
      Original commenter asked a good question. When was the divergence originally planned is an interesting discussion.

    • @lrinfi
      @lrinfi 11 місяців тому

      @@ChadVulpes Did you mean "annexed" Canada? That's what makes that particular dark humor so funny. It's ironic in a real-world sense. "Globalists" have or have attempted to annex every country on Earth in a sense. I recall a tiny European country, the name of which escapes me at the moment, being heralded as "the mouse that roared" when it defied the globalist/corporatist agenda a few years back. The general attitude of the globalists was, of course, "How dare they? Don't they know we only want what's in their best interest?"
      And the tragicomedy continues.
      "The road to hell is often paved with good intentions" and the original creators of Fallout were obviously familiar with that concept/idiom. Bethesda, honestly, doesn't appear to be and/or doesn't want to touch it for fear of offending anyone. No idea.
      PS: George Carlin's "Euphemisms" skit is similar to the original Fallout's in ironic humor/vibe. Of course, the US didn't "invade" Canada in the Fallout universe. It merely "annexed" it. That kind of subtle humor is practically nonexistent in Bethesda's Fallouts.

      @@ChadVulpes If you missed it, I can't help you, I'm afraid. You said, the "Fallout world is different enough." And that is, of course, what I meant by "fictionalized" in my original comment.
      Irony, like paradox, is generally un- and underappreciated in our time and the exploration of subtle ironies in Fallout's original iconography, as I've said before, are unrivaled in the video game medium as I see it, the difference between the original meanings of words with which all of us are familiar and how they're used by propagandists and spin doctors being among them. That's what I miss in the modern Fallouts, personally. That kind of stuff is merely used as window dressing in the modern Fallouts, hollow and insubstantial. And that's what I mean when I say that Fallout iconography has been stripped of all its original and inherent meaning.
