Honestly, for people like you who do outdoor video, this is a great way to have proper lighting for your videos. I don't see why the average person really needs something like this especially at that price.
I have one of these. Luke said the cost was 170 but they have them on Amazon for 139. Still expensive but worth the cost. This will be a part of your gear for years to come I’ve used it for camping primarily but also as a video light when I make night video for my channel as Luke does. Everything Luke says in this video is right on. Great product!
I almost thought I needed this before I looked it up and saw the price before you noted it. Wow! Nope. I can use my Olight Perun 2 Mini as a mangetized foot light for many uses in and around camp.
'So far' could be the key 2 words ? I see it's promise but too much clever-dickery with such a basic concept as illumination screams 'Caveat Emptor' to a cynical bugger such as me. Damn pricey has to be said ?
I started carrying a tripod and a car flashlight that supports tripod mount and since then my camping experience improved dramatically. I cannot imagine camping without it, especially for cooking when you need good flood lighting in a fixed angle. My car flashlight is ~200 lumens and that is plenty. This lamp sounds like a dream come true!
So glad you did this 'preview'. As soon as I saw this lantern on the first video I was thinking of getting one. Due to the price, I will wait a bit, mostly because I already have light sources that meet my needs, but when the time comes I will get it and see if I like it as much as I think I will. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video.
There is an alternative that has roughly ninety percent of the specs in the sixty dollar range on the big river website. I have to dance around keywords because of the overzealous moderation bot.
What an amazing product. Whoever designed it was thinking outside of the box. After the review I'm seriously considering purchasing one. The bottom line (and this is something you often state) - you get what you pay for. In this case a well made and versatile light source that has a multitude of ways to be used!
Something I think is missing from this light is a red light mode for low light use in the middle of the night when you don't want to disturb your eyes or someone else's.
I've been seeing ads for this, I had just assumed it was a copy of the job site tripod lights sold by many tool brands. It looks like they've added a few camping specific features, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was inspired by those. Especially since they aren't an uncommon sight at campgrounds these days.
I'm up in the arctic in Canada... no not the 51st state! I ordered two of these in sand/yellow colour. In places that are dusty, I feel that the sand/yellow coloured one will look less dusty than the grey or olive drab one. These will also make great emergency lights during power failures. Hanging from inside the tent loops at the top of the tent or on a low camping table, great for setting up beside the stove while cooking on a table top outside the tent too.
Luke, I always wonder, not just with your channel, how can the gear vlogger be sure that just some regular viewer sent you a product and not someone from the company posing as a regular viewer? Love the channel !
Would love to see how well your Haven Ridgelight string lights work off this, and how much they might drain your battery. If you use this light as your battery bank, that can cut down on one thing you need to pack/carry.
I have been watching videos on this latern for a while and i went and bought. Its AMAZING. I take it with me on early morning fishing trips and its so convenient with how much light ot provides and the fact i can attach it to my car with the magnets. I also love that i can charge things with it like a headlamp or something small like my air pump. I have a few poerr banks and an Anker solar generator but the anker is huge and the power banks means carrying so many things. The light is compact and multi-purpose. They have come out with knock offs and they are just not the same, they feel cheap and they dont have as many uses in comparison. It is definitely worth the money. This will last a very long time
It makes sense. Obviously it’s expensive, but some people can afford it. I personally use light that can use my Makita battery for tools. All bigger brands offer lights, so everyone who has DIY tools can also have excellent light source for over landing.
I see there are other brands of this on Amazon that are much cheaper, wonder if they have the same quality considering they all probably come from the same factory in China. Get a cheap one Luke and let us know if there is a difference please. Your the best at this and we appreciate you. I looked all over their web page and could not find the lumen output so thanks for providing that.
There item is sold by at least 20 different "manufacturers" online! There are two versions that i have seen too! One version has the center tube as solid (the light is only seen from the top piece) and the other has the center tube as a mesh pattern so the light can shine through to be used as a lantern. The pricing i have seen ranges from as low as $60 to as high has $200.
I agree they are extremly versatile lanterns. Great for putting on a folding table to shine down on the food for beach BBQs I host. There are white label versions of this lantern whick are almost identical, and one of the Amazon vendors sells it with a storage case that fits it perfectly. The price is $100 cheaper as well. I had three of them and gave two away after a beach party to a few friends.
I was interested in this light for use during power outages. It would be absolutely amazing for that purpose, until I saw the price. For my purposes, the price is a deal breaker. Other than that, that thing is amazing! 👍
i bought two of them and I love them. it is a fantastic product. I take long exposures and light art photography so it is a really helpful tool. If you need a tool like this, buy the original product, no the copies!
Ordered one. I am not easily impressed, but the first time you showed it, I was immediately interested. It will have a few scenarios that i will use it. Besides camping, I wrench on my own truck sometimes into the evening. Also, when power goes out at home, I see this giving a good, dispersed lighting so I can get the generator and extension cords set up.
There's alternatives available on a site named after a big river in the sixty dollar range that are roughly ninety percent as good in terms of specs. I can't say anymore or the lousy bot will delete my comment.
720° is 360° of movement in two different axes (plural of axis) and the manufacturer probably left that out of what Luke was reading or had read and was saying it from the printed instructions or label or whatever.
OK, thank you for reviewing this product. I’ve been eyeing a similar set of products online that I’ve been really interested in seeing the effectiveness of. I think there was a lot of really interesting design choices that I think were fairly well bought of. Though I haven’t finished the video yet so that opinion can change.
A couple things; support the OuTask version! I have 2, and for a few months now since Kickstarter. The campaign was a delayed mess, but wirth it in the end. What sucks for OuTask is that along the way, they had several copies find their way to the market. I've even used mine in the waterbottle pocket of my pack as idk, a portable streetlight? Two of these are -wonderful- Also! The color temperature of the light is brilliant. Once you use, and see how colors change, it's super useful.
Luke, saw you use in in videos. Really got my attention. Yep there's a cheapie version on Amazon but is that one worth the $ savings? HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF MAKING A VIDEO SERIES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS? I'm pushing the 80 mark pretty hard and have some limitations but love the outdoors. Seems that camping videos with us older folks is missing on virtually all youtubeless channels.
Why wouldn’t you use a dropcloth like you put on your tent or anything like else that you put on the ground? Just cut you a square out and set that light on Square so you eliminate the problem of dirt being stuck to the magnets just a question.
Looks like a good light more then I could spend on one even if can be used as a power bank also. Have a 10,000 mwh solar power bank that works great. Would love one very useful.
I looked into a little more, seems to be smaller in size a little, and made of all plastic. Looks like just one type C port to charge, and to use as power bank also. Could be good, but not as good of quality as this one.
I've been admiring something similar (or perhaps even the same lantern) on TA Outdoors for some time. But thank you for the closer look. It looks really good.
I'm used to having a bokken, or a lightsaber, sticking out the top of my rucksack, so, the idea of this amazing torch lighting the way ahead of me, from overhead, wasn't dismissed. It's do-able. So many easy fixes. And then I thought... Could one of these torches be suspended under a mini-drone? (Are they 'allowed' to fly at night?) I see a drone-shot, of gliding over forest tree-tops at night... the golden-yellow tint of the torch really making that Autumn Money-shot.
Trick looking design. Saw the vids with it. Area light for filming and battery power storage are big pluses for it. Price pretty versitle. My head lamp costs twice as much. So good to me
The thing looks like a super advanced version of those old enormous Maglites that took like three D batteries. I'm the guy who hates internal batteries and future bricks when it won't hold a charge....but I WANT this thing. The uses here are wide ranging, from indoor to outdoor. It IS pricey, but it looks to be worth that price.
This version is missing an awesome feature other brands have. Table lamp mode. The top portion has holes and allows the light to dissipate nicely. BYSOU is the brand and it’s only $60. Only 10,000 mah. Flextail also has their own brand now.
FYI, this BYSOU actually stole the design and made a cheaper version of the light when Outask started their campaign on Kickstarter. And, BYSOU tried to put up their own kickstarter campaign with this counterfeit product. I know this because I was one of the Outask pledgers.
A nice and well thought out concept, but I suspect the price is too high at this time. While I'm not aware of anything like it, the cost to get a couple items that would function the same is quite a bite less. A couple things you might add to your testing though: Can it charge from a backpacking size solar panel, like a 10-20w? Can it actually charge from USB-C, or is it only using a USB-C port for charging but requires USB-A to actually charge? I have a couple small electronics that are this way. They can't charge at the higher wattage/Amperage of USB-C. If the unit can charge from solar panels, you might get away with using just the built-in battery bank for keeping your electronics charged while on a trip, though I personally find 12k mah to be small for longer trips.
I’m better that this light or something similar will now start popping up in adds to every single online device and platform, Chinese shopping , just for watching a nice looking product 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤙🏼🤟🏼🖖🏼
For 1/4th the price, you can get a monopod, headlamp and a powerbank, not only will the light last longer, it'll be more useful as separate parts and very easy (and cheap) to replace parts as needed. (As a side note, the "12,000mAh" is most likely 3,000mAh or less of a actual capacity)
I have a 3 dollar front light from Decathlon plus the lamp that comes with my minipump, there is no way I would spend more that 10 bucks on a lamp, no matter how good.
Try a selfie tripod stick and a headlamp held in said stick. It is cheaper, lighter and works just as well. Plus you have a selfie stick and a headlamp.
Would it be worth trying the "Illuminate Your Path" functionality by positioning it over your shoulder, instead of over your head? Say, by putting it in a side pocket of your rucksack and angling the extended light over your shoulder.
Honestly, for people like you who do outdoor video, this is a great way to have proper lighting for your videos. I don't see why the average person really needs something like this especially at that price.
This was my thought as well. For my purposes, a cheap Walmart lantern and some cordage works just as well.
@@BlackcatOutdoors Don't forget a Luci Light, a good solar-powered inflatable lantern that can be hung up or set on a table.
I appreciate such honesty on all the products you use. I would not be afraid to purchase any of those products you recommend
I love this light and I was very interested in a review and where to buy one for myself...but not at over $150!
Love your attention to detail and brisk pacing. Bravo.
I have one of these. Luke said the cost was 170 but they have them on Amazon for 139. Still expensive but worth the cost. P2 mini is one of my go to lights as well, considering it comes with a headband. When car camping the magnetic base is so versatile.
I bought the off brand on Amazon for 60 bucks. Love it so far.
'So far' could be the key 2 words ? I see it's promise but too much clever-dickery with such a basic concept as illumination screams 'Caveat Emptor' to a cynical bugger such as me. Damn pricey has to be said ?
I bought the same in October on Amazon for $59 and use it every day.
They're all off brands
@@mykrowsyor…maybe…they’re ON brands…😂😅

I noticed it in your truck camping in the rain video you recently posted!
Like it. Think it would be perfect for car camping trips.
