I'd argue breaking the progression in GT games is at least half the fun. The hype when getting a ridiculously overpowered prize car is just unmatched, and steamrolling subsequent events with it is just fulfilling a certain kind of power trip fantasy.
If these kinds of extreme "game breaking exploits" existed 2024 though, they could either make the game completely forgotten (or get the funny exploits patched a week after being discovered)
I think what People fail to realize is that alot of these exploits and progression skips come from nearly TWO DECADES of playing the game. You are bound to find ways to break the game after consistent play if you play it for THAT Long.
@@MrKennyWilliams I feel like that element adds charm to the game. There's current Forza prize cars and then GT3 prize cars, and GT4 finds a really good balance
Yep. GT2, get a good 291HP car, do the Trial Mountain Endurance, get a pretty good Supra GT500 car to do the Red Rock Valley event, Farm the Speed 12 and sell it until you can afford an Escudo, boom!
There is a way to get an LM Race Car as your starter car: if you get your IA license and complete Driving Missions 21-24 you're awarded the Pagani Zonda LM Race Car, all without using any cars from your garage.
@@pedinhuh16 Missions 21-24 are the Slipstream battles, which aren't too hard once you get a sense of where the AI's driving line is. I know that 23 can be frustrating with having to constantly leap-frog with the AI, but it's really the only one of the four that should take more than a couple attempts.
Something else to add - B-spec mode allows you to completely skip any license requirements for a race. You can complete the compact car challenge which normally requires an iB license with something like the supercharged MR2, NA Miata, or even a well tuned CRX or Del Sol from the starting lineup (sadly the civic type R is just a bit too long). The championship pays out 7500 credits per race with a much larger bonus than anything else at the time, but the competition is basically stock superminis with the occasional jumpscare of the MR clio V6. You win a vintage honda S600 roadster which also sells for 60k which means you can not only check off a needed series on your way to the GTWC, but you also leave with over 100k in cash, despite it only being your second series (assuming you did like sunday cup or the kei cup first to drum up some quick cash for upgrades). Now you're setup to buy whatever you want for progression - subaru to do boxer cup/star of pleadies, viper to do roadster/NA/FR/etc, or even just tune up your starter a bit more to keep going with progression.
To me the 25% requirement to unlock the Endurance Races always felt somewhat logical because I feel like only a somewhat experienced driver in real life would even consider doing a Endurance Race in the first place. But then again, I do admit that it feels a bit wrong in a game.
Yeah, I would've preferred it if it just unlocked through some kind of "qualifying" tournament, maybe of races that were 10-15 laps long in the Professional League or something. Endurance races are a lot more fun when they're always available, especially when you're going to make some of them available to such early-game licenses and cars, it's like... why NOT have them available from the beginning? Who by the time of 25% completion isn't going to have done all the licenses by then anyway?
@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN Or unlock them on a Track-by-Track basis with those slightly longer races, like do a 20 Lap Race on Tsukuba to unlock all Tsukuba Endurance Events, do a 3 or 4 Lap Race on the Nordschleife to qualify for that tracks Endurance Events. Would be a more natural Progression and the "qualifier" could have the same license requirement as whatever the lowest one for that Tracks endurance Events is, but you could unlock a different Event that needs a higher license you might not have yet too.
Well irl you can get pretty far in endurance with just an FIA bronze license there are some bronze amateur drivers that went from racing regional one make championships to racing in the WEC in only like 3 years. Sure, money plays a role too but that's still impressive.
@@sdx3918 The license is one thing and may be fairly low-ish for many Endurance Events, but those Events may have further requirements than just having the correct license. Like i.e. if you want to drive a LeMans Hypercar during the LeMans 24 Hour Race (aka compete in the Top Class in that Event) your license and even money mean nothing as long as you aren´t at least a Top 3 Driver in any International Championship. At the end of the day for a game it would make the most sense to either make the license the only requirement for Endurance Races or unlock them, as mentioned above, by other means like a qualifier Race or something like "Get at least Top 3 in 2 Events on this Track" to get access to the Tracks Endurance Events.
Being really young around 2008-ish, without any internet resources, prize cars were one of the biggest reasons why I liked GT4. To my child self, there were seemingly infinite amount of events to complete, and an infinite amount of cool cars to win and discover. That discovery was the most exciting part of GT4 to me. It helped that there were alot of "game breaking" cars like these that made hunting for prize cars more, well exciting. When I was young, my favorite route through the game involving one of these cars was getting the Rx8 concept from licenses, using it to win the Rx8 race car, then using that for the JGTC cup. Even though GT3s progression was well balanced, I really like the chaotic and almost "sandbox" like way you progress through GT4, and I don't fault the game for that at all. I didnt really care about finishing the game, just wanted to drive cool cars.
GT3 is just too railroaded of a game for me. Progession takes for-fucking-ever and there aren't enough events or cars to carry that. GT4 feels like the best Gran Turismo experience out there.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMANGran Turismo 2 too. Gran Turismo 5 and 7, along with 3 are top 3 hardest GRAN TURISMO games to beat. 5 also has no progression skips at all.
Well, that's interesting. I was already in the process of writing a script for my own "How To Break Gran Turismo 4" video, but you beat it to it. That being said, there's one event that I was going to focus on that you didn't cover. All I'll say is: while the Suzuki GSX-R/4 you win from the Suzuki Concepts one-make might not seem like much, its potential is absolutely ridiculous once you tune it, especially considering it's a roadster and compact car. It's obtainable very early in a playthrough if you head straight to the Suzuki one-makes after obtaining the B licence. Also, for why GT4's progression is the way it is, I also feel like GT Concept has a role to play, as it meant that PD had a bunch of concept cars modelled, like the Cien and RSC, and nowhere to put them. It doesn't make sense to make them buyable, so they chose to put them as prize cars instead, with some questionable placement here and there.
That gsx-r/4 is bananas, you can't get a wild amount of power out of it, but being able to get 300bhp out of something that feels like it weighs less than a trainer and with a wing option to be able to crank the downforce, on the tighter twisty tracks it is super zippy Honorable mention to the tommy kaira zz-ii as well (though not a prize car), with the 4wd and being able to put wild tunes with a wing on it, it went crazy fast and anything bar lmp cars I could beat in it (though I used the 2003 jgtc nissan instead which for some reason had crazy amounts of downforce in the settings compared to the other JGTC cars from memory)
It's hilariously good in so many ways, yeah. Its nitrous when set to 100 power gives it such a massive power boost on straights, and it doesn't deplete in an instant either like it does for other cars. It destroys the tarmac/wet special condition races or Tuning Car Grand Prix with a set of racing softs, or you can use it in endurances and it can stay on the track for ages (60+ laps of Tsukuba with sports mediums) thanks to its exceptionally high grip modifiers and low weight. All of the GT 500's max out at 50 / 70 downforce (which is ridiculous IMO), the '03 Skyline is one of the best, but it's a bit prone to understeer because it has high rear grip. The Motul Pitwork Z is a much smoother drive (plus the game gives you one as a prize car), it can even do GTWC without much issue with the stage 4 turbo and a good setup.
@@TeaKanjiGT6 nitrous system only applied to all road and tuned cars and not majority of race cars sadly. Plus it also costed $100.000, unlike $5000 in GT4.
Young me would have grinded through every event with no skips whatsoever, current day me would look for every skip imaginable, just so i can get to those sweet sportscars in the end game
Dude when i replayed GT3 i looked at a teakanji guide but just grinded for a sports car instead to breeze through and get a race car, some of the really weak cars irk me to drive
@@purwantiallan5089 GT3 is much more of a struggle than gt4 and it feels like a 90s game. There's no easy way to get credits and I still haven't got the Escudo
@@sukhdevr3489 gt3 is pain in the rear end, some shitty car 10+ laps championship races and icing on the cake that dumb roulette prize cars... worst thing in any GT game by far !
When talking about GT3 and the progression in that game, the easiest route I found was to start out with the MX5 1.8 liter (yes it's the one costing 16,900 credits, not 17,000). Then you would use it in the early events, racking up enough credits to fully tune it. Now, the MX5 fully tuned (a little over 370 horsepower) could rival opponents such as the ones found in certain amateur grade events, and it could achieve a top speed of around 340 km/h (or somewhere around 210 mph). Now, with this in mind, you could actually win the race at the Test Course in the Dream Car Championship with this car (if the FTO was not present), and that would net you 35,000 credits for completing 5 laps. Yes, GT3 is very time consuming. But once you did this enough, you could buy the Viper GTS, and give it the highest level of tuning, increasing the power output to 1100+ horsepower. Now, with this monster in your possession, you needed to get the Super licence, and enter Like The Wind. 20 laps later, and you would have the legendary Mazda 787B in your possession. With this car, winning any event it could enter would be an easy task, due to its amazing grip and handling. And with this, you have practically beaten the game. Granted, you would need other cars for certain events, but the majority of the "open for any car" events would be easy to win with the 787B
An alternative method I had in the past was doing the rally license, all the rally events to get the escudo and then from there you can use that for things like the like the wind for 787b, super speedway 150 (you change the gearbox into automatic, slam the car into the right wall with the accelerator on full on the sticks with rubber bands and leave it to run if I remember correctly from playing ages ago) for a chance at the f1 car and so on (with gt3 letting you give the escudo 1800bhp)
If you're skilled enough, finish 1st in all the Time Trials in arcade mode that rewards you with the Panoz Esperante for use in GT mode. You can cheese a huge majority of the game that way
What i get from this is kinda that GT4 gives you the ability to go in any direction, slow cars, fast cars, any car kinda but still not being open and destroying a sort of progression
The Japanese version of the film title Tora! Tora! Tora!, which is a abbreviation of totsugeki raigeki, which was the code word used to indicate that surprise attacks, like on Pearl Harbor, were successful. Which is probably why it was changed outside of Japan
The US release of that film is also titled Tora! Tora! Tora! though. And it is an interesting film as it was made by Japanese and American filmmakers who worked together to show both sides of the story.
GT4 made it so rewarding to explore niche events. will never forget first play through of the game, wanting to try out the rx-8 cause a friend's dad had bought it and it looked slick. suddenly, the game opened up in a way i couldn't have seen coming
maybe it's not talked about too much in the community because of its difficulty, but i think gt3 has the craziest progression skip in the series, maybe eclipsing even the f1 car you get from the roadster endurance. i mean, you don't even have to enter simulation mode to do it. just get all gold times in the arcade mode time trial, and you'll get the panoz esperante, which is kinda one of the best cars in the game, lol. and i've found that getting those gold times isn't even that hard compared to getting golds in the licenses, the only potential barrier being the complex string trial, but that just demands your patience more than anything. anyway, great video, as always!
It feels as though Polyphony Digital has been doing anything in their power to reduce progression skips in later games starting with GT5. In GT5, licenses are not necessary, but you have the infamous A-Spec and B-Spec levels that you have to raise in order to unlock more races. In GT6, progression is super streamlined with licenses now mandatory again, but you can't take them on all at once; you need to complete races first in a specific license set before you can complete the next set of license tests. GT7 has the Menu Books. Once you finish the base game books, you're free to do whatever you want, as there's nothing to guide you at this point. There are some Gold Prizes that are decent enough to be considered progression jumps, such as the 2J in one of the Mission Hall mission sets, the F1500 T/A in another mission set, the Red Bull X2019 Competition in the Super License and the McLaren MP4/4 in the Super Master License.
"It does force them to buy a Crossfire, a fate I wouldn't wish on anyone" Does it help knowing it's basically a Mercedes SLK underneath? No? Well, you don't need it for anything else in the game, so you're free to sell it immediately after.
The new age progression skip for GT4 is farming days played by joining & leaving mission 1 over and over until day 368, then doing the in-game license, credits and event golding cheat codes haha
The same also when players got Umi Sonoda's R89C after completing Mission 30-34 in GT4 to progress 65 percent of the game that feels as sweet as "LOVE ARROW SHOOT!".
I'll never forgive GM for never putting that Masterpiece in production. Hell, they could've made it in limited numbers and sell each one for over a million bucks, it would be 100% profit.
Fun fact about the El Capitan 200 Miles: The game doesn't care what *kind* of sports car you use as long as its body type is sports and you don't have racing tires equipped. This means you can do the race in something like the BMW M3 GTR Race Car with sport tires (like I did), and utterly crush the competition (including the Elise).
You can even use the Minolta prize car and equip sports tires to redo it over and over. The tire wear will be faster but you'll be so far ahead it doesn't matter 😂😂
The capri rally special event skip on gt4 was insane when I found it as a kid. I played it over and over to unlock the 4.5 million credit open top cars. I eventually fell in love with the track and continue to play it regularly to this day. I tried so hard for so long to have a flawless lap in time trial mode with the f1 car, getting the timings tight for every blind corner and breaking zone. Finally decided to see the record on the lap online and saw it’s some guy just wall riding the entire lap. The disappointment was immeasurable
My personal broken Gt4 route 1:get the RSC super expensive race car from the special conditions race. 2: sell, buy Mercedes roadster and upgrade and do the one make race "Legends of the Silver Arrow. 3: you'll win a merc touring car. Race the German touring car championship. 4: win the god damn CLK GTR LM 👌
dont't remember exactly, was long long time ago, grind for money buy Mercedes DTM, leave b spec to grind for money an prize car Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK-GTR Race Car '98, fastest way to get filthy rich!
Blackpool Racers (TVR one-make races) should also get a shoutout, get any TVR car, by completing it, you get the TVR Cerbera Speed 12, which is an absurdly fast (but not quite steerable) hypercar.
Yep, on my latest playthrough I beat it using a stock Griffith 500 which I bought for 20k Cr from the Used car lot. But the Speed 12 is fairly useless since it may be insanely fast accelerating but its tires just don't have any traction below 110mph, it understeers like crazy (like all TVRs in GT4 for some reason) and has poor tire wear. So its not that gamebreaking all things considered
@@mrspandel5737 a lot of cars understeer in GT4 for some reason, so it doesn't help, though my memory of the speed 12 was it handling like a beyblade as a kid, even with the wing upgrades
The reason for the understeer is because every car has a grip modifier for front and rear, and if the rear is higher than the front, the car will be prone to understeer, especially when exiting corners. Almost all FR's, MR's, and some 4WD's are like this. The TVR's suffer the most from this, the Tuscan Speed 6 for example has 93 front and 103 rear, so it has a massive rear grip bias. Tyre width also plays a role, and if the rear tyres are much wider than the front, it'll also cause understeer. There's a spreadsheet that shows all of these values for every car, obtained from the game's interal SpecDB tables. The Speed 12 has quite a few problems: a 60 : 40 weight distribution, meaning the car is front-heavy and there isn't much weight on top of the rear wheels, causing traction issues, plus 95 / 102 grip modifiers, 30 / 40 max downforce and 285 / 315 tyre width which all exemplify its understeer. Even a 200kg rear ballast and gears as long as the game will allow are barely enough to make the car drivable in 1st gear with soft sports tyres with its massive torque at low and mid-RPM's. As well, its custom suspension kit has really stiff spring rates by default, meaning you can't loosen it to allow it to turn more freely.
@@mrspandel5737 there are guides on how to tune cars like that in order to make them extremely playable, granted the Speed 12 is still not the greatest option even with optimal tuning.
I think these progression skips added a lot more fun to the game. I remember being far younger and finding that the RSC and CLK LM were both farmable for a LOT of credits. I didn't have internet access at the time so I had to find them on my own, and that added a lot of enjoyment when you complete an event and find a _really_ cool (and fast!) car is your reward. It was an awesome experience that the randomized car reward mod for GT4 seeks to emulate.
Knowing that you like and appreciate external feedback (from watching just some of all your work here) - I would like to say succinctly that I sincerely love your passion, work, insight, dedication and commitment with this channel and with Gran Turismo
I think this would be cool to see done with the other games. Also neat touch that the music used is mostly from GT4 it really makes this video feel like a disk read error.
Even with the artificial road blocks, i think GT4 is still cool cuz many prize cars for specific races are better versions of a car youd use in that race, and that gives my brain a lot of dopamine for some reason
12:00 You can win the "Corvette Festival" in a very silly way. I once took a C1 '54 Corvette Convertible totally stock just for giggles to the first race...and won! Yes, it can only go to around 100 mph topspeed, but the car doesn't care if you go straight or in a 180° turn...it always goes a 100 mph with insane grip. Granted, New York wasn't the easiest (blocking the competition on the straight's did the job) but every other race the little C1 (again, STOCK) dominated.
Honestly GT4 giving you some strong cars easily but having the "final" race locked behind the other main events is the best system. It does not feel good to put a ton of time/cash into a car for a competition only to get something completely garbage as a result, so GT3's prize cars as well as GT5's and GT6's complete lack of them makes the races feel pointless. The GT5/6 level/star systems are even worse, because what makes GT4 so much fun is the free choice you have in progression and taking that away on top of giving you crap in return really was a terrible choice. GT3 is really hard to go back to since it can feel like a slog where you are spending massive amounts of time and are still stuck driving 200 hp shitboxes, GT5 is a slog because you have to spend hours driving 200 hp shitboxes while raging because the one time a vehicle you NEED for progression shows up in the Used Car Lot is when you are too low of a level to buy it (Like those damn trucks), GT6 is just ass.
GT3 is also broken like GT4. If you can manage to gold every rally license (I still have nightmares about Delta Integrale in Tahiti in PAL version) you'll get the Subaru Impreza Rally Car Prototype. Use it to win all the rally events and you'll be rewarded with the Escudo. Use it to win Like the Wind for your 787B, and you're now the proud owner of an LM prototype. Pretty fast way to get one of the best cars in the game imo xD Edit: Originally wrote that you get the Escudo from rally license all gold, which was wrong hehe :P
@@polloconpelo4224 Ah right, my bad. Do the rally licenses -> Use the Impreza Rally Car to win all the rally events -> THEN be rewarded with the Escudo -> and then go get your 787B from Like the Wind. Still pretty fast to get a top tier car haha.
Don't forget, if you have completed the GT4 Prologue, you can than import your save file and you automatically get both national licenses, giving you the opportunity to win the RSC right from the start.
Can’t say how appreciative I am of your videos, they’re all super high quality, a dream to watch, and they’ve provided me with hours upon hours of entertainment and food for thought. Thank you very much for making these, and I can’t wait for your next one!
My favorite GT4 prize car is still the McLaren F1 GTR. It's not a progression-breaker or as powerful as some of the others in this video, but it is an incredibly satisfying car to master in the game.
Truly the greatest progression skip is getting the bonus 100k (and B and A licenses off the start) on a new save if you had GT3 on your memory card, buying the Mercedes 190e, doing the one make race in Mercedes to get the 190 Touring car, then B-Spec'ing the touring car European event to win the Mercedes CLK GTR, which could be sold for 743,749 credits, or used. If you didn't have a gt3 save file, then of course you could do the Costa D'Amalfi route, then do the above. All of this done with your first hour or 2 of gameplay. Gt4 was definitely wild with the progression skips, and this was a great video covering them all, so cheers for that! Also, great choice with the Sega GT 2002 music in the last section of the vid, that game is an underrated classic!
The one good thing about GT4 is that it gives the player more incentive to do these events. I myself, has only completed about half of the Beginner league events in GT3, and I kinda feel lazy to do them, since I am already doing Amateur league races, which give more reasonable prize cars. But I am going to completely beat the Beginner league soon.
Yeah I also think that's the case although some events in GT4 are not that great either. But you can use B-spec to do any events you don't care about which is something GT3 could have used I recently 100%'d GT3 and so many events felt like duplicate of other ones. This is really annoying especially since most of them have no restrictions so you are probably going to drive the same car for them. Same opponents + same tracks + driving the same car = really boring experience
@@s0lsticefr4 I mean a large part of that is GT3's very limited car roster, which automatically means a more limited range of events with less car choice and a lot more recurring opponents, and worse rewards for cars, so the event structure being wonky seems to be a result of that key element
One of the reasons i enjoyed GT4 more than GT3 was not only the extra content, but also the progression system 🙃 If You're new to racing games (or just don't play then often) chances are You're going to get softlocked in GT3, and will have to grind events you already did, which is quite lame, i remember that happening to me when I was a kid.
Im pretty sure my first car was a used R32 Skyline GTR. I came into Tsukuba Wet challenges, which I completed with a stock GTR. It also had a very pricey reward car, can’t remember what it was, but it completely broke my progression and all my cars after that were fully tuned, even for Vitz one make races. That being said, at least Tsukuba Wet races were super fun, because of less grippy physics
I am SO guilty of using the Camaro LM in the El Capitan 200 Miles... its so easy since the only real requirement is to not have race tires on the car...
I honestly think GT4 is 100x better than 3 in terms of pacing. Even if you break the game early, you can't just beeline to the gt championship since you have a fair few events you have to do first. Also I played the Japanese version last year, I hadn't played the game in like 8 years and the big difference I noticed was there was no chaparral. I think in terms of balance it's actually a good thing since even kid me could win lots of races with it because it was just that busted. But now since I'm 10x better at driving I like the game to be a little harder. The Japanese version is actually a bit better to me because some of the cars it doesn't have made it more challenging. Of course if other players may want to have a more comfortable time then by all means go get that RSC and wreck the chumps! Also the Corvette festival is called that in Japanese. Idk why only the US version changed it but it is kind of a cool name. The JP version has mostly the same names for non-championship events. I guess it's not like other video games where there are any interesting translation differences since it's mostly just car talk.
Finding alternative ways to progress through a game is a huge part of the fun for me, which is why I really didn't like GT4's decision to lockdown endurance category behind completion as opposed to the licenses. I don't enjoy artificial time barriers like that in any form, modern or retro.
Seems like GRAN TURISMO 4 game progression is still the BEST progression ever in Gran Turismo franchise. I also still remembered by getting $12M by selling 50 RSC RALLY RAID CAR 2002 and 21 Mercedes AMG-CLK LM!
18:43 This is the most underrated car on the game. When it's upgraded it has like 600 hp and weighs 1 tonne, plus has 4WD and great handling. It's much better than the 400r and I used it to get the Minolta.
At the time, there was no internet, so I remember that I could not choose those races giving you good prizes. I went for races randomly, and I remember that I struggled A LOT before finding an LM prototype and being able to compete in the GTWC. I remember that I did plenty of the endurance races and also major, very looong championships (including the thousand miles, DTM and All GT Japan). Right, the El Capitan Endurance gives you the Minolta, but it's the ONLY way to get an LM car (as a kid, I could not complete the missions) and the money to farm to buy one is insane. I found it really frustrating actually 😅 evene because there are an INSANE amount of races you could do in GT4, and getting the "right ones" randomly over all the sample is not easy.
Love your videos man! I like how original all of your content is, I've been playing Gran Turismo for over 10 years and I'm still learning new things about the series thanks to you. I also really enjoy your videos about Super GT!
It feels with the gt4 prize cars and the roadblocks for progression you mentioned, that they were dipping a toe in the curated experience that they totally leaned into in gt7. There are cool cars that they want to show you and give you in the game, but it's still open enough for you to find your own way. For example, despite all the great cars in the video you mentioned, I won the GT WC with the Suzuki Escudo PP on my first playthrough, but I remember winning some of the ones mentioned. This is why, for me gt4 has the best career mode. It funnels you sometimes, others it lets you loose
Getting unexpected monster prize cars in GT4 was always fun. I found it to be a nice carrot which would encourage me to keep on going. I think it was one of the big reasons why I got so close to 100% completion back in the day.
I've replayed GT4 more times than i could remember, never thought of how the regional halls got events laid out so you can reach the big event with any car
Thats why I like the randomizer mod so much, it flips all the year long " do this than that" on its head every time you play GT4. Even that doesnt make Mission 34 easier thos :)
I remember losing the progress of my very first save (corrupted data) and what I did next was: repeat Sunday Cup until somewhere around 50k, buy the HPA Golf, win the Capri Rally twice and get the Cerbera Speed 12
For the El Capitan endurance race, my method was to run the OPTION Stream Nissan 350Z which is the prize car of the tuner car event. Its 770 HP is more than enough to beat the event comfortably, the only thing needed to buy are tires (personally, I prefer to buy a fully customizable transmission too) and I just breeze through the event easily under two hours.
it's an incredibly modular player experience, that's the main appeal of it. it has it's flaws but simply building a collection of cars and driving them is exactly what makes the whole thing worth it
I'd also say another one i consider progression breaking is in the European events. The 1000 miles championship. The easiest way i found to beat it, buy a camero ss from chevy classics, do weight reduction , a customizable transmission upgrade, suspension and tires. Each race gives you 150,000 for winning and there's 4 races. No license required, b spec can be done in a day. And winning the whole championship gives you 300,000 on top of the 600,000 if you win every race. That's 900,000 that can be easily gotten with just doing the one special condition event and selling the Toyota rally raid car. I've made it almost a priority race in my GT4 playthroughs. You can get so many cars way early and greatly reduce the difficulty of basically any event. Even doing a no Japanese car challenge, it makes it a cakewalk
playing GT4 with the Randomizer is certainly a fine way to be suprised. On one hand, I can earn shitboxes for massive amounts of work, and on the other, I won a Bentley Speed 8 for completing A license xd
I'm sure the question has been posted Zillions of times here; why does this truly inspiring Gran Turismo channel not have millions of subscribers? Hasn't GT7 alone sold well over 60 million units... let alone the equally great ~ 24 years prior.... I find this channel truly inspirational, and whole-heartedly agree that the journey is more important than the destination
It’s interesting to see the progression breaks in these titles, but in my play though, I am going to just play it vanilla style and maybe if I want to take on a certain challenge that was on UA-cam, I’d do it. I will refer to this and my actual console saves not for breaks, but for upgrades and tuning on certain races. And yes, the journey to becoming a GT World Championship is more memorable than actually being the one who did it. Maybe that’s why I love enjoying car rides to places.
I remember when I was rummaging through GT5 I found a kinda similar progression skip Winning Roadster Cup on B-spec (9 lvl) gave you the price car of Mazda Furai Concept, able to beat Super GT championship (22 lvl) quite effortlessly
If I'm right, that's the Slipstream battles, right? Those missions taught me more about Slipstream, which is oddly never taught on License Tests. There's another car to get, but those consist of the toughest missions in the game: The 2nd half of One Lap Magic races, including Mission 34. I wonder what car you could've won from the scrapped Touge Battles (Missions 35 to 41)?
I still remember when I was a kid, selling half of my garage to buy a Cr. 550,000 Falken Skyline to win the Japan Gt championship, and when I grew up I realized the amount of ways to get a race car, without buying it. I felt like an idi0t, but I loved that skyline and is one of my favorite cars in GT, just for that
Damn this takes me way back in time. Used to run the capri too many times a day so I could buy the special black edition of the lemans cars when they finally came up.
I figured out I could enter a modded Toyota RSC on slicks in the All Japan GT championship because I couldn’t afford anything else. Winning it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in a game to this day, but it is possible. With I knew about the RX8, lol
Comment made before even starting the video, let's see if you mention this: Started a playthrough a couple of weeks ago, decided to do the 1000 Miles championship in a slightly tuned Ginetta G4 (That you win very early on in the game). Long, but in B-Spec at 3x is very manageable. After doing that championship I'm at less than 5% of the game completed with 900.000 credits in the bank.
I used to grind liga A and La festa instead of the special events, because these feel like racing, and granted good sell value cars, one time I had enough of using the cizetta and the R8 for them, so I started to lightly upgrade low powered cars (suspension, transmission, brakes and racing chips only), or, if the car is too slow, I wouldn't tune it above 210 bhp, made the grinding quite enjoyable, specially beating those new cars with old relics like the gullwing and the 2002.
I was able to break my GT3 progression. At the start of my playthrough, I was strapped for credits so I decided to do the Roadster Endurance to earn some much needed credits and I ended up being awarded the F688/s
When I played gt4 I initially didn't search up the prize cars so every car is a nice surprise If I searched it up I might be able to map out a very op progression path but will miss out on the sense of excitement from getting a clk race car out of nowhere
The Mercedes one make event was the best skip for me, it’s probably the second fastest way to get a German Touring Car, but the one you get is the fastest one, from there use it in the German Touring Car championship, and go crazy
And the german touring car championship is the best way to grind money (a bit faster than the capri rally with the RSC due to all the loading and slow corners meaning you have a limit on how much faster you can run it)
The current world record for Any% uses a progression skip not mentioned in this video: Driving Missions 25-29 -> Toyota 7 Race Car. GTWC-capable, qualifies for Spider & Roadster, nukes Tuning Car Grand Prix. Lets you get enough money to buy a Viper and clean house with many of the rest of the main events like NA Sports, FR Challenge, etc, then prize cars fill the rest. Requires an IB license, but if you’re doing a speedrun the opening is just a bumrush to IA anyway.
You forgot another skip that you can do, this time without even owning a car, the slipstream battles in Mission Hall giving you a Pagani Zonda LM RC, something you can do pretty much as soon as you are out of the license center with your first few licenses! Another one you could have mentioned is the Tsukuba Wet Medium, being far easier than the RSC event due to track, but paying the same money over time if selling. As for Stars of Pleiades, you forgot to mention how it doesn't only give you an amazing car, but it's one of THE best ways to farm money early game, since you can B-spec it and win in just a couple mins, get 125K from the event and the price car sells for another 95K, for a nice 220K in about 10 mins and the added benefit of burning days in-game over the RSC one (so you can get to day 366 faster for infinite money or get to specific days to buy specific or rare used cars without having to wait long).
There is a fun story I have about the crossfire. My dad had some friends working for chrysler back then. And they were Road testing the crossfire months before the launch. Where you think they drove with a futuristic looking(for the time) concept drop top sports car? They drove to the middle of the Las Vegas's most busy street. And everyone was looking and photographing the cars. Why would you drive a concept sports car to the middle of Las Vegas? Edit was for the typing mistakes. I'm typing on my mobile right now
A bit of a detail, but El Capitan and Easy Capri are bit of complementary exploits. The latter gives you money to outpace the begginer's league, unlocking the endurance races where you can do the former and crush most events in pursuit of the GT World Championship. Now that you mentioned all those One Make Races and the cars they give, perhaps El Capitan is the true game breaking event, as it's the only one that gives an end game car
Great analysis of the gt series game structure. I miss the championship structure of the earlier games, it had you weighing up strategy on what results you needed if you had a poor mid championship race.
16:50 - You got it wrong. The Toyota Minolta is THE fastest car in GT4 maxed out. It's even faster than the Formula GT and I know people who have proven it. So yeah that event is OP LOL
I know you wouldn't list every single skip or the video would be hours long, but my favourite skip will always be the Honda civic brand event where you win a Mugen-MOTUL civic Si that was a fairly capable FWD racing car AND an easy 150.000Cr sale which you can do with your starter car with a couple of tuning parts. You do that twice (one for the sale and one for keeping the car) and then go for an easy Toyota RSC farm. xD
In my opinion combining Schwarzwald Liga A and the 200 miles of El Capitan is the ultimate progression skip. You start with a 300hp ish German road car, use the money you earn to tune up the M3, and use it to win the Toyota. (Imo the M3GTR race car is one of the fastest race cars for the El Capitan race, as the track is a tire killer and the event limits you to sport tires. Anything faster than the M3 will just obliterate the tires)
I broke GT7 last week, pausing at the finish line, and having the screen loop for as long as I let it run - got bored after 5 minutes...! Video is available.
damn this makes me feel old, I use to do the Alfi race at least four times & then sold all four to my million with change if i needed to change the oil, do it a few more times & bought the audi r8 lm car
Yoooo, fancy seeing you here. You guys should make a video together. I'd love to see you and James work your magic with Mr. Waffle
Bro the excitement I get when you post after 2 weeks is immeasurable.
And also 100 percent perfection.
There is a way to get an LM Race Car as your starter car: if you get your IA license and complete Driving Missions 21-24 you're awarded the Pagani Zonda LM Race Car, all without using any cars from your garage.
Yup, this how i start GT4 most times. can put a turbo on it to get to 900ish HP from memory as well.
@@earn375Gran Turismo 4 recently also has Project RE TUNED mod that even has Stage 5 Turbo Upgrade that allows any car to have 1000+ bhp.
You just forgot to mention that you actually need to put in the work on those driving missions, they were hard as hell.
I hate the fucking pace car... Literally is just a roadblock most of the time😂
Something else to add - B-spec mode allows you to completely skip any license requirements for a race.
GT7 game progressions is very different compared to 4 but in the worse way. Chances of getting prize cars from roulettes also are very thin.
@@sdx3918did European Le Mans has the same level like FIA WEC?
This is exactly the way I feel. I don't play this for beat it, it's just the pleasure of try and use different cars
@@purwantiallan5089 3, 5 and 6 are all too balanced. No fun😭
I feel the same way as well, no internet, nothing but time and a racing game, nothing felt better!
That gsx-r/4 is bananas, you can't get a wild amount of power out of it, but being able to get 300bhp out of something that feels like it weighs less than a trainer and with a wing option to be able to crank the downforce, on the tighter twisty tracks it is super zippy
Honorable mention to the tommy kaira zz-ii as well (though not a prize car), with the 4wd and being able to put wild tunes with a wing on it, it went crazy fast and anything bar lmp cars I could beat in it (though I used the 2003 jgtc nissan instead which for some reason had crazy amounts of downforce in the settings compared to the other JGTC cars from memory)
The Motul Pitwork Z is a much smoother drive (plus the game gives you one as a prize car), it can even do GTWC without much issue with the stage 4 turbo and a good setup.
you should still do it
@@MysteriousFigureGSX/R-4 on Gran Turismo 5 with Racing tyres even can destroy the GT300 cars with proper tuning.

Ah I’ll use this for my playthrough then cause I’m kinda struggling and I just thought I was ass at GT3 but I picked the AE86 for the memes😭
I have a Japanese version of the game for my PCSX2 emulator. The starting credits were 1.5M, equivalently 15K. No Miata for me at the start.

The Japanese version of the film title Tora! Tora! Tora!, which is a abbreviation of totsugeki raigeki, which was the code word used to indicate that surprise attacks, like on Pearl Harbor, were successful. Which is probably why it was changed outside of Japan

GT4 made it so rewarding to explore niche events.
will never forget first play through of the game, wanting to try out the rx-8 cause a friend's dad had bought it and it looked slick.

maybe it's not talked about too much in the community because of its difficulty, but i think gt3 has the craziest progression skip in the series, maybe eclipsing even the f1 car you get from the roadster endurance.
i mean, you don't even have to enter simulation mode to do it. just get all gold times in the arcade mode time trial, and you'll get the panoz esperante, which is kinda one of the best cars in the game, lol.
and i've found that getting those gold times isn't even that hard compared to getting golds in the licenses, the only potential barrier being the complex string trial, but that just demands your patience more than anything.
anyway, great video, as always!

The new age progression skip for GT4 is farming days played by joining & leaving mission 1 over and over until day 368, then doing the in-game license, credits and event golding cheat codes haha
dude, getting a Cien at the first events was what made me fall in love with it
The same also when players got Umi Sonoda's R89C after completing Mission 30-34 in GT4 to progress 65 percent of the game that feels as sweet as "LOVE ARROW SHOOT!".
I still think any maxed out high end supercar with a rear wing would be faster but the tire wear would also be quite a bit more to worry about.
I used the Mitsubishi HSR 2 which is a monster as it has like 650hp and weighs 1 tonne

@@TeaKanji try launching with the 2nd gear instead lol. A lot of cars will buck like crazy when they launch, but behave better if you launch in 2nd.
The C1 Corvette even can block supercars in Supercars Festival with proper tune and maxed out engine upgrade.
24:39 you don't know how surprised and happy I was to see sega gt 2002 music being used in this vid. Got hit with immediate nostalgia with that one.
SAME, I thought I was the only one who heard that😭😭 one of my favorite racing games of all time tbh
Getting the Cien and spam selling the RSC rally raid are both must do's 😂.
Dont forget the JGTC league.
Pretty fast way to get one of the best cars in the game imo xD
Edit: Originally wrote that you get the Escudo from rally license all gold, which was wrong hehe :P
Wasn't the prize car for the Rally License the Subaru Impreza Rally Car Prototype?
@@polloconpelo4224 Ah right, my bad. Do the rally licenses -> Use the Impreza Rally Car to win all the rally events -> THEN be rewarded with the Escudo -> and then go get your 787B from Like the Wind. Still pretty fast to get a top tier car haha.
Like the wind???? You dont need to go so.far to beat them. You can deal with the prototypes with a R34 JGTC.
Don't forget, if you have completed the GT4 Prologue, you can than import your save file and you automatically get both national licenses, giving you the opportunity to win the RSC right from the start.
RSC Road Model or RSC Rally Model?
@@purwantiallan5089 the rally one, ofc, with national A license
Can’t say how appreciative I am of your videos, they’re all super high quality, a dream to watch, and they’ve provided me with hours upon hours of entertainment and food for thought. Thank you very much for making these, and I can’t wait for your next one!
I liked it and was very proud finding out about "smart ways" to progress in the game as a kid.
Ridge racer 4 music is always a win
*By more incentive, I am referring to the earlier events where you race slower cars.
Yeah I also think that's the case although some events in GT4 are not that great either.
But you can use B-spec to do any events you don't care about which is something GT3 could have used
I recently 100%'d GT3 and so many events felt like duplicate of other ones.
One of the reasons i enjoyed GT4 more than GT3 was not only the extra content, but also the progression system 🙃
If You're new to racing games (or just don't play then often) chances are You're going to get softlocked in GT3, and will have to grind events you already did, which is quite lame, i remember that happening to me when I was a kid.
New roflwaflle upload? I'm down for it.
When he drops a new video I always end up watching almost his entire catalogue again while playing gt7.
Bro your passion for GT games is great. Keep on doing what you're doing
Great work mate 👍🏻 love the Ridge Racer Type 4 music on this video 💪🏻
Seems like GRAN TURISMO 4 game progression is still the BEST progression ever in Gran Turismo franchise. I also still remembered by getting $12M by selling 50 RSC RALLY RAID CAR 2002 and 21 Mercedes AMG-CLK LM!
Try the mitsubishi hsr 2 it's so fun when upgraded 650hp and 1000kg and 4wd
Dude my dumbass really thought he meant breaking as in braking the car💀💀💀
Grand Turismo Auto 4
The Tous France Champione reward being a 2CV is very on brand for the french
Well, at least it's necessary for one of the One Make Races, even if the prize car is the same car, but pink.
The biggest "Game breaking" exploit came after 19 years if it's release: The money code after 365 days.
it's an incredibly modular player experience, that's the main appeal of it. it has it's flaws but simply building a collection of cars and driving them is exactly what makes the whole thing worth it
I'd also say another one i consider progression breaking is in the European events.
I remember when I was rummaging through GT5 I found a kinda similar progression skip
Winning Roadster Cup on B-spec (9 lvl) gave you the price car of Mazda Furai Concept, able to beat Super GT championship (22 lvl) quite effortlessly
The infamous muscle car cup on Seattle, where you can easily win a Cobra driving a lightly modded S13 because opponents drive on land yacht 😂😂
Don't forget the driving missions! The Pagani race car is pretty easy to get.
I felt like an idi0t, but I loved that skyline and is one of my favorite cars in GT, just for that
The one make races are the core of this game. Suzuki and Opel are the final boss. The grind to do them it is like to play CoD4 on veteran.
I remember playing this game when I was 14 and I still remember doing many of the same tricks :D
Comment made before even starting the video, let's see if you mention this:
Started a playthrough a couple of weeks ago, decided to do the 1000 Miles championship in a slightly tuned Ginetta G4 (That you win very early on in the game).
When I played gt4 I initially didn't search up the prize cars so every car is a nice surprise
If I searched it up I might be able to map out a very op progression path but will miss out on the sense of excitement from getting a clk race car out of nowhere
I think GT4 is the right amount of freedom for a career progression. I don't want to go faster, I just want to use wierd cars to beat wierd races
And then you enjoy all of the mechanic available in the game. From the Bspec to pit strategy.
Cadillac Cien and RSC Rally Raid my beloved
Me just using the 10mil cheat and any other cheat on the ps2
the C2 vette race car can also be used to combat the buick special / the AC Cobra in the world classics cup
The Mercedes one make event was the best skip for me, it’s probably the second fastest way to get a German Touring Car, but the one you get is the fastest one, from there use it in the German Touring Car championship, and go crazy
And the german touring car championship is the best way to grind money (a bit faster than the capri rally with the RSC due to all the loading and slow corners meaning you have a limit on how much faster you can run it)
@@MysteriousFigure I also qualify the car (except the Nurburgring) then just let B-Spec run the race
I got a concept LM Car from a literal Japanese event
Ho Ho Ho Ho hohohohoho hohoho hohohoho
The current world record for Any% uses a progression skip not mentioned in this video:
Driving Missions 25-29 -> Toyota 7 Race Car.
Thank you mate. Im playing GT4 and i know some great info for my gameplay
You do that twice (one for the sale and one for keeping the car) and then go for an easy Toyota RSC farm. xD
The Mario at 0:56 already had 50 stars and didnt need to BLJ 🤐
MAN I loved this game. Wish they could remaster this game.
This makes me want to go back and plat gt4 again, just need to find my ps2
Its more money than prize car, but using the EK Civic Type R from the start of the game to win the Civic one make race is an easy 100,00+ credits
damn this makes me feel old, I use to do the Alfi race at least four times & then sold all four to my million with change if i needed to change the oil, do it a few more times & bought the audi r8 lm car
Thanks a lot, you save me hours on the gameplay- the minolta is the Holy Grail ❤
It hurts me seeing a half an hour long video essay about a game i love dearly getting this low amount of views
