I love him but that's an overstatement. They need two guitarists to replace him because he is playing on multiple tracks. When they tour they have to add at least one extra guitarist in the background to fill in those extra layers.

      Yes. But not once. Twice.
After The Mask released they got Billy Burnette and Rick Vito to do the tour as Lindsey had slap had enough of Stevie's bull.
After Tom Petty died Stevie convinced Mick to hire the Heartbreakers pickers.
      Again, Stevie ruins the fun.

Hands down, one of the most legendary guitarists there will ever be. These days you see endless covers of every song there is, and even though there are some that do the damn song justice, they're still just a cover. The work has already been done. Go and watch a live version of Lindsey doing his song Big Love. How insane is that. Yes it is nothing shy of phenomenal every time he does it but, all the way up to the first time the last note of that song was played, it didnt exist. I just think with the whole entire "cover movement" thats been going on for a long time now, so much potential is lost within the amplified regurgitations...

The genius behind his music was that he put together chord progressions that do not go together in musical theory but he made them work, besides he was not that bad, he just did not live long enough to reach his full potential and maturity as a guitarist. His style was simplistic yes, but he was creative. The nice thing about Kurt's music is that anyone picking up a guitar can learn his songs. It is how i started out as a teenager when i first picked up a guitar at age 14. All music does not have to be complicated.

+crevice_coin I am thinking of his being ranked #100 on RD list of TOP 100 Guitarists...I 'd call that about 30 or 40 slots too low, wouldn't you? That's what i mean by underrated....Some top guitarist lists done by others do not even include him at all...Underrated...

+Robert Mucci Hey man guitarist rating sheets are complete bullshit. You should watch that Jimi hendrix interview where he is being called 'the best guitarist in the world' and his response to that.

Anything as subjective as "Best Guitarists in the World" can't be considered as a litmus. I don't think his goal was to be a 'Van Halen" or "Jimmy Paige". He was more of a composer and less of a finger slammer. Still a highly appreciated and well-rewarded artist.

Wow, Lindsey you are absolutely the best guitarist and singer in the world. Thank you so very much for your performance. In the 80ies I loved your live version of " I am so afraid", still today.... Meanwhile during the 80ies until now I was a David Gilmour fan. He is excellent, no way, but you flashed me with your performance.... Keeep on. The music loving world neeeeeeeds you!!!!

This is what a true natural talent sounds like. He is an amazing guitarist and singer, and guess what! he doesn't use auto tune, un-like most modern un-talented artists in the industry today do. This guy is the real deal and we need more musicians in this day and age to perform like this, no auto tune just all natural skill and talent.
