Something people miss about J Jonah Jaeson is he's a very "rule of law" type of guy. He hates Spiderman because he views him as a vigilante that's interfering with police work and acting outside the law. Sure, we see it when he refuses to name Peter as the photographer because 1) he's not going to throw someone who as far as he knows is just a kid looking a job under the bus to save his own hide, and 2) he strongly believes in the integrity of the press and it's against ethics to reveal your source Also, you notice in that boardroom meeting, Norman goes through the 5 stages of grief in an instant

Yes. In comics canon, Mary Jane Watson was the girl next door to Peter Parker, who was set up on a blind date for Peter by Aunt May. Mary Jane came from an abusive household and sent to live her Aunt Anna. To hide the pain, Mary Jane put on the persona of a wild and carefree party girl when she was out and about in public. With her love of being the center of attention, MJ pursued a career in acting and being a model. Of the Spider-Man movies, the Raimi films were the closest to the classic comics. Also, for the sequels. Spider-Man 2 Extended edition and Spider-Man 3 Editor's Cut are a must.
In the comics, Mary Jane was never the "girl next door"... she was a red-haired bombshell, who because of the abusive upbringing was portrayed as a shallow character. Peter chose Gwen Stacy over Mary Jane for that reason and Gwen remained his true love until the time of her tragic death at the hands of the Green Goblin (even though it's hinted that it was Spider-man's web that snapped Gwen's neck and caused her death).
@@cytorakdemon - not in the comics. Ehhh, while both Spider-Man 2.1 and the Spider-Man 3 Editor's cut definitely make positive changes here and there, I wouldn't call them direct upgrades by any means like I would with something like the Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The theatrical cut of Spider-Man 2 in particular is definitely a better overall cut than 2.1, in my opinion. And the Editor's Cut of Spider-Man 3 takes some fairly significant liberties that aren't necessarily in line with what Sam Raimi was going for.
The thing that I think this film does so well is understanding that Spider-Man is a character driven story. It has no complex plot which allows the characters to be very complex with wants, goals, different personalities, home life’s and struggles to go through. That’s what separates this trilogy from other superhero films. It makes the human drama just as important as the flashy fight scenes.
Yeah, but like... what about his dead parents who aren't actually dead with an underground train/secret laboratory that you can access with gold coins hidden under a railroad that explains how the spider was actually genetically engineered to turn Peter specifically into Spiderman?
@@SchulzEricTFuck no. Don’t you dare compare that filth to this masterpiece. That subplot has since proved contradictory and totally goes against Spider-Man’s purpose as a universal icon. The spider bite is and should always be a random accident that could’ve happened to anyone. That whole “chosen one” bit TASM and prior Spiderman comics attempted to do makes him less of a relatable character and defeats the point of “anyone can wear the mask” that Stan Lee and Steve Ditko intended with the character.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish I could hug you. I lost my grandmother and it was very much the same for me and I started tearing writing this. Just discovered your content today and I love it. Your personality is awesome.
@14:20 when it showed Peter thinking of Mary, thats when he got the inspiration for the color design for his costume. Red for her Hair Blue for her Eyes.
“Slander is spoken. In print it’s libel” is something I’ve never forgotten for some reason. It’s never served me a purpose but if someone ever needs to know the difference I’ll be ready.
Funny thing is that the thing Norman used on himself was basically an attempt at replicating Steve's super soldier serum. Of course they couldn't really mention it in the movie due to licensing at the time (Spidey being under Sony and Cap being under Marvel). Almost every character that gets generic increase to every "attribute" gets their powers due to some attempt at replicating the serum. Same thing with Hulk, the whole gamma radiation thing was an attempt at replicating what made Steve a super-human.
I like how in in the ultimate comics they actually mentioned how everyone in that universe is basically trying to create the super soldier serum due to how effective is was. Steve was barely skin and bone and turned into a bodybuilder with minutes and enchaced everything.
35:56 fun fact Tobey Maguire said he hates this scene, because the water was running in his nose and he couldn't breathe (if you pay attention when MJ tries to partly remove his mask you can se the veins in his neck lol ) P.S. man the nostalgia :(
Oh, when you said this was going up soon, you meant _soon_ No complaints here. It's always cool to see these movies again through fresh eyes, and these reactions of yours are always entertaining. Even the goblin thirst for some reason. lol This was another good one, Tofu. I'd definitely be down for more of the series if you wanted to continue. The Mary Jane look turned out really good too, and you nailed the hair. Looking forward to more of the Spiderman game too, or whatever you feel like putting out next
I just found your channel today and I've been binge watching. I grew up being traumatized by this movie and spider man 2 from too young of an age, but spider man 2 has always been one of my favorites. I definitely would love to see your reaction to it.
Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin was perfect casting, the tiny slice of Noman asking for begging for help before fully being taken over by the Goblin at the end was just some of the best acting in any Superhero film. I guess the only complaint would be the outfit, would've loved if they went with the outfit Alex Ross designed in his concept art but nontheless the film outfit is still iconic. In terms of this film's accuracy to the comics it's pretty close but goes in it's own direction. For example the Organic Webs was solely created for this film, pulled from the James Cameron script for a cancelled 90s Spider-Man film. This was a last minute thing so there's still footage you can find online of Toby using a web shooter that he made himself like the comics. MJ being Peter's first "relationship" is iconic but in the comics Betty Brant played by Elizabeth Banks in these films was Peter's first relationship but his first real relationship didn't come until he met Gwen Stacy in college. Then MJ was introduced around the same time while Peter was in College. Another change is Green Goblin being Peter's first villain. In the comics it's The Chameleon but Peter's first "Supervillain" is regarded as The Vulture. Green Goblin along with Norman Osborn were not introduced until Peter started College but of course they wanted to go for Spider-Man's iconic Villain, Green Goblin is like what Lex Luthor is to Superman, or what the Joker is to Batman. Also Uncle Ben dies in a house robbery defending Aunt May rather than waiting for Peter in his car. So there's a few changes but for the most part it's a very solid origin story.
This was big back in 2002. The year after the Twin Towers was destroyed here in NYC. It was the first movie to feature the Twin Towers post 9/11. It was directed by Sam Raimi. He made Evil Dead and Army of Darkness, and a lot of the transitions and humor and jumpscare/horror elements are soooo similar to those films
About the Uncle Ben's final speech, I'll say this much. It is totally different for teenage girls VS boys, and it is different depending on the life you want to lead.
Fun Fact at 8:49: This was a practical effect/stunt, not CGI, they glued the tray to Tobey Maguire's hand and he actually did catch everything back onto the tray, it took 156 attempts!!

I've seen other arguments saying that he did it out of greed because since Spider-Man is the Bugles money pot and is the only reason people read it and because without Peter's pictures to keep it going would go out of business, but I like to think it's because Jonah is not a bad guy just a guy who's set in his ways and hates being wrong
@@JakNasty69 Its definitely not out of greed, since money is useless if youre dead. Pictures won't help Jonah if Goblin kills him. But he can still be considered a bad person overall, its much more than just not wanting to be wrong. Hes a shitty person but is capable of doing good.
The fact you wanted to go back to school and get a degree in world war 2 studies is actually really surprising and cool, cuz when I was in high school I actually did research and study world war 2 stuff in my free time simply cuz I wanted to
11:42 what I love about Pete and MJ in this first movie is how they connect about MJ's passion for theater. MJ must've felt super alone on that her whole life and only Peter can see her for who she truly is.
This is one distinction I want people to appreciate better; a "simp" would've just said she's a great actor and he believes in her, just because that's what she just said and he wants to get on her good side. But Peter isn't a simp, _he's a stalker._ He knows she's a great actress because _he actually went to watch her play_ without being asked. There's a consistency and continuity there; the man's dedicated to actually being there for her hobbies so when he compliments her he doesn't need to fake an answer.
Great job QT! Also, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with you exploring the Korean half of your lineage! Lastly, if you want to pursue a history degree, don't let anyone or anything stop you!!!
Well to be honest Peter despite the movies, games and Cartoon show his Spiderman side, is actually nerdy and dweeb like, especially before becoming Spider man
So much to comment on from this reaction video. First as someone who’s 33 (close to the age of your editor) I’m definitely wayyy different then my 18 year old self mentally, physically, and emotionally. As someone who’s from NY when this movie came out on DVD my middle school Chorus teacher was absent for like a week and just had the sub teacher play this movie for us and I remember a bunch of girls (one including my crush) conversating about the similar scenery of both Spider-Man and Sex and The City so you’re not off on stating the similar resemblance of NY scenery that both captured in early 2000s especially the Lion King live billboard which was plastered everywhere including tv commercials back in early 2000s. You also noticed a lot of jump scares in this movie and that’s because Sam Raimi is known to direct a lot of horror movies which I’m sure he infused some of those elements into these Spider-Man films (this definitely carriers over into Spider-Man 2 and 3) “Why do Uncle Ben and Aunt May look so old?” Honestly both of them are definitely older actors/actresses and are my favorite compared to the other series because they have so much of that old wisdom that grandparents have that you notice when Peter is speaking with them. Aunt May in Spider-Man 2 demonstrates this wisdom even more in my opinion and the actress does such a good job of portraying her and really making you feel some type of way when you hear her speak. “No one in this scene looks like they’re in High School.” I mean at the time a lot of people dressed and looked like that IMO but things change with each generation and I constantly feel like the newer generation just doesn’t age at all, like some of them I look at and question if they have facial hair or even know what puberty is 😂 Anyways it really surprises me of the amount of people today that haven’t seen the Sam Raimi Spider-Man series and can’t wait to see your Spider-Man 2 reaction video (if you end up making one)
Since you've asked before about movie ideas, I thought of a few suggestions: 1.The "Die Hard" movies 2. Now You See Me 1&2 3. The "Beverly Hills Cop" movies 4. Pacific Rim 1&2 5. Horrible Bosses 1&2 6. The Baytown Outlaws I don't know what you've seen, but those came to mind based on what I've seen you do as a reaction video. You're pretty entertaining and funny! Keep up the great reactions! 🤙👍
Exactly, i knew react channels nowadays will whine about Peter not being "an ally" or whatever, what the joke implies there is that Bonesaw acts menacing on stage but is a sweety at home, not that being gay is wrong
Sweetheart when you talked about your father made me ugly cry because it was so beautiful. I lost my mom last year and she was my life since I didn't have a dad growing up. I am so sorry for your loss. I immediately subscribed my girl.
I think the reason you thought it was going to be a dog, is because Marvel movies lately are more worried with the Super, instead of the Hero part of the superhero genre. They would make a funny gag or something, but in those spider man movies, peter really was going all out saving people, not just kicking ass.
30:07 I really miss suit up scenes like this. Now everything just appears on their body. It was cool when iron man did it in infinity war, but now everyone just has a suit that just appears on their body. I miss the classic “rip open the shirt and see the suit underneath” moments.
I'm new here and I watched your Interstellar reaction and realize how hard movies are for you that contain father figure influences. There are so many out there, but if you ever get the courage, I really recommend Tim Burton's Big Fish, but I warn you, you will probably cry more than you ever have. It's such a beautiful movie and has a really beautiful message, but it would be a rough watch.
Can't wait to see you reacting to Spider-Man 2! In my opinion it is the best Spider-Man movie ever made alongside the two Spider-Verse movies and it is definitely one of the greatest Super hero movies too!!! It's just sheer perfection🙂

The reason he rejected her at the end is the typical “the farther away from me the safer you’ll be” type thing? Pete couldn’t bare to hold the guilt of uncle Ben & now mj on his consciousness.

The the 90s cartoon he actually went on tv on a show did an interview and was showing off his abilities.
The fact you wanted to go back to school and get a degree in world war 2 studies is actually really surprising and cool, cuz when I was in high school I actually did research and study world war 2 stuff in my free time simply cuz I wanted to
This is a surprise! With great power comes great responsibility! Thank you for reacting to this movie! You're awesome!
"What am I saying? This isn't a horror movie!"
Sam Raimi: 👀
My favorite MJ is the early 2000s cartoon version. The movies and games don't do her justice. Anyways great video Q.Tofu🌟👍
22:25 That’s not early 2000’s decorating style, that’s 1950’s decorating style🤣
AHHHHHHHHH IM SO EXITED FOR THIS!!!!
Great job QT! Also, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with you exploring the Korean half of your lineage! Lastly, if you want to pursue a history degree, don't let anyone or anything stop you!!!
Fun fact. In comics, tv series and most Sam Raimi Spider-Man series. JJJ really protected Peter Parker
2:26 Yes! Thank you, I'm glad someone finally said it!
Actual Queen, Love from Australia
Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man was my childhood hero, then he'll became the most powerful meme in 2020's years. 🙌😄
"Because I was four years old."
I....I was in tenth grade.....Fuck I feel old
ur hair is always on point and im so jealous
Well to be honest Peter despite the movies, games and Cartoon show his Spiderman side, is actually nerdy and dweeb like, especially before becoming Spider man
*Title
Finally watched tobey maguire's spiderman for the 100th time
omg I loved this reaction of yours
You also noticed a lot of jump scares in this movie and that’s because Sam Raimi is known to direct a lot of horror movies which I’m sure he infused some of those elements into these Spider-Man films (this definitely carriers over into Spider-Man 2 and 3)
“Why do Uncle Ben and Aunt May look so old?” Honestly both of them are definitely older actors/actresses and are my favorite compared to the other series because they have so much of that old wisdom that grandparents have that you notice when Peter is speaking with them. Aunt May in Spider-Man 2 demonstrates this wisdom even more in my opinion and the actress does such a good job of portraying her and really making you feel some type of way when you hear her speak.
“No one in this scene looks like they’re in High School.” I mean at the time a lot of people dressed and looked like that IMO but things change with each generation and I constantly feel like the newer generation just doesn’t age at all, like some of them I look at and question if they have facial hair or even know what puberty is 😂
Anyways it really surprises me of the amount of people today that haven’t seen the Sam Raimi Spider-Man series and can’t wait to see your Spider-Man 2 reaction video (if you end up making one)
Haha love all your reviews, keep it up !!
Since you've asked before about movie ideas, I thought of a few suggestions:
1.The "Die Hard" movies
2. Now You See Me 1&2
3. The "Beverly Hills Cop" movies
4. Pacific Rim 1&2
5. Horrible Bosses 1&2
6. The Baytown Outlaws
I don't know what you've seen, but those came to mind based on what I've seen you do as a reaction video. You're pretty entertaining and funny! Keep up the great reactions! 🤙👍
Queen! This was my top favorite movie.
Ah yes, the youtuber that looks at both heroes and villains like "..... hey 😏"
".. Oh dear... Oh me oh me oh my".... Lmao!
17:55 Yup. Back when people were not as sensitive as a toothache. Back when people can take a joke
I love your movie reaction videos. I hope you can do them more often in the future.
Cant wait to watch this ! In for a treat seeing someone watch this masterpiece with fresh eyes ! Already looking forward to the sequels
Can't wait to see you reacting to Spider-Man 2! In my opinion it is the best Spider-Man movie ever made alongside the two Spider-Verse movies and it is definitely one of the greatest Super hero movies too!!! It's just sheer perfection🙂
Yaaaaassss! Spider-Man binge watch! Let’s goooooo!!!
36:20 if you were screaming save my baby, from the looks of you, we’d all assume it was a dog.
Already watched and commented on the early access version but we've gotta keep those views and engagement levels up, so here I am again! I (kinda) know how this stuff works.
22:53 hey Tofu. . . I love your story about your Dad. I may be losing mine soon. So, thank you. i appreciate your thoughts. I see your loss and empathize 😢❤😢
More like loving since I'm still watching* I agree fully with the pressure to "know yourself," before one is truly capable of having a good grasp of who they may or may not be. Well said.
The reason he rejected her at the end is the typical “the farther away from me the safer you’ll be” type thing? Pete couldn’t bare to hold the guilt of uncle Ben & now mj on his consciousness.
Which was stupid because, she was always in danger no matter what lol.
The way you talk about your dad melts my heart
Sincerity is the word you're looking for. Not cheesiness.
watching the scene where uncle Ben dies still reminds me of that meme where they go “uncle Ben what happe- SQUID GAMES”
