All My Watercolor Palettes (A Cautionary Tale) Palette Tour!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 лют 2023
- I hope this video doesn't send new watercolorists running away from the media in horror. also, I realized that I forgot 2 of my palettes because they were loaned out. A Koi 24 watercolor set and my supervision layered watercolors. Here are videos of those palettes if you are interested:
Supervision: • 15 NEW Granulating Wat...
Koi: • Plein Air Postcard #4:...
Other than that I think I have them all. It's a lot. I might need an intervention.
You can find many of my recommendations on my Amazon recommendations page: amzn.to/415iCCm
And the higher-end products on Blick: shrsl.com/3xnu8
Some things have been discontinued and I hope that is not frustrating. Also as we saw with some of the "fan/folding" palettes the quality and formulation changes so with many of the discount brands it's hard to know if they are still the same quality as the older sets I have.
I noticed that I did most of my purchasing prior to my big konmari clean out in 2017. I know I have a lot and will get some judgment from it but I hope you enjoy the video in the honest sharing nature it was presented. Be well and happy crafting!

Wow this helps a lot, thanks! :)
Oh my gosh, that must’ve taken ages! Thank you! 😂
Thank you so much! Im going to pin this!
Thanks so much! I watched the entire video in two sittings though!
Ha. You’re my kinda people. I love this.
Don't let people make you feel bad for enjoying watercolor palettes. It hurts no one that you own these. I'm tired of cruel judgemental comments on every platform.
I second this!
Me too!! I’m grateful for people who share joy in videos and spend time filming and editing so we can enjoy too!
I just don’t understand why anyone feels the need to be critical. They could find something good if they wanted to.
I’m so grateful I’m not that miserable and neither are you and many people who comment.
I do hurt for those people I watch and like.
Absolutely I agree!
Completely agree!! I would love to have some of those palettes!!!
And all of these palettes were lightly used to extra loved ❤ I don’t have nearly as many palettes and mine are hardly touched 😅 I know I’m not a full time artist. She does more than just watercolor so you can see the love in this video 😍
I can only imagine that those who are online as art creators get a lot of supplies of all kinds. It’s your occupation! I appreciate that you share them and talk about pros and cons depending on how we want to use them! This was a fun video. I find it inspiring and fun to see what’s out there!
I adore this palette tour, thank you for taking the time to share them all!
NO SHAME OR JUDGMENT. Regardless of if you're an art teacher, professional painter, "hobbyist," or "just collector".
If it makes you happy, then that's what counts. It is that simple.
Those are shelves of pure joy! I stopped worrying about what others think about what I wear, buy, decorate my home, etc because their thoughts won't change how I feel about whatever the situation may be. I'm in control of my joy and will not allow someone else to dump on it with their negativity. Life is for living to the fullest! Thanks for sharing some of your joy!
Very well said! ❤
I love seeing others crafts & the stuff they have. I have several pallets myself & enjoy using them all.
Wowza, that you remember all that about each of those palates amazes me. I listened to the whole thing while working😊
Wow, thank you
How fun is this!!! This is like a toy box treasure trove! I LOVE your palettes! I love my paint palettes also! Do I have too many??? No! I use each one. They make me smile and give me pleasure. Thank you for sharing yours❤
Lindsay, You always tell us: " You Do You"!!! Just keep on teaching us, love your watercolor classes.
Thank you! Will do!
For a while I was ‘collecting’ watercolour palettes. I was curious about different brands and would buy paint to test. I had to stop when I ran out of space. But I don’t think it’s that unusual to have a lot of paint. I use them all. And it means I have palettes for when people ask to paint with me.
The true difference between you and a true hoarder is that you DO use them! That is so totally awesome. I love seeing any of your WC product, collections, supplies!
Thank you so much!
I'm going to break this down into FIVE half-hour episodes, lol! Thank you so much, Lindsay!
I'm loving your palette tour. So glad you decided to do another one. Now I don't feel so guilty about all my watercolor palettes.
I don't know why, in this day and age, someone is always out there to make us feel bad about the harmless things that make us happy. I say that your palette collection is glorious and there's never a need to defend it. Heck, I think it makes a lot of us happy just to listen to you talk about/show us what makes you happy, and that's how things should work. Everyone's enthusiasm should be appreciated and contagious.
This was a great video. So much fun to watch! I didn't mind the length at all. It's endlessly interesting to see all of the different kinds of ways people can store/use their paint. Have you given any consideration to branching out to vintage/antique palettes? I recently purchased a replica of an ancient Egyptian palette that I'm enjoying greatly, and always look in thrift/antique stores (if not eBay) for old ones should they ever pop up.
I look for them at antique shops but have never found any.
Try church missions and places that clean houses after someone passes. Good luck. ❤
Oooh. Cant wait, but I’m checking my bank balance first. I use all my palettes too, you definitely taught me not to consider anything too precious to use.
Absolutely! Every time I think I am not good enough yet to use the art supply that I bought I remember what Lindsay says about how it will all end up in a yard sale when we die! So use the supplies :)
My favorite way to spend a wintery, blustery Arizona day is with Lindsay. Blizzard conditions on the mountain, sleet/snow mix down here in the valley with gale force winds. They are advising us to stay off the roads if possible. So yeah, stay inside and watch Lindsay. Sounds like a plan.
Those who love you dont judge. We have our own collections.🤣🤣🤣
Can't wait to finish work tonight at 9:30 to watch this! Thank you Lindsay, for taking the time to share your awesome collection! And for listening to us who requested it! :) ❤️
I love how much joy and happiness your pallets bring you. You don’t need to defend or explain yourself to anyone.
I love seeing them all and look forward to seeing new ones in the future.
I literally squealed out loud, "I'm so excited!" Can't wait to see your palettes!
2.5 days later, I got through this video!!! Lol, and I loved it! Trying to figure out how I'm going to justify cost to the wife!!! Watercolor is like buying gold!!! Even empty tins can be pricey! Now I understand the wife's plea to pick only two hobbies. I'm looking at having to drop skating, to become a full-time artist. I already dropped music, so I no longer have instrument up keep costs. The things we allow ourselves to justify cost... I still have photography and skating cost. However, photography can rollover into my painting... Skating... It's very freeing, since I no longer travel. I was just looking at a group of friends that host skate traveling meet ups... If they'd only asked me 20 years ago... Then, I'd probably never had met my wife, or purchased my homes. Cause I'd be so in debt racking up cost on traveling.
I love my one Schmincke Horadam pallet. But I am a person who keeps it on a shelf and takes it out only occasionally; to paint swatches. I do not judge you at all! We have a right to fully enjoy our paints uniquely! If we have many or few. I love that you openly share yours, you are very brave.
Yes! I will be watching and listening while I craft or draw. Thanks so much! 👍
What a binge. I’m loving it!! You’ve actually convinced me that I don’t need any more right now… go figure.
Yeah, that is also how it works, 👍👍
I just wanted to add that your love of watercolor pallettes has enabled tou to teach me and countless others it doesn't matter how cheap or how fancy a person can still learn and love painting! So thank you for all you have taught us!
It’s remarkable that you remember what is in all of these palettes and where you got them. It was fun to see all of the unique palettes you have. Fun to watch, thank you!!
Watching reviews like yours helped me buy only the supplies I would really like. Don't feel bad about having so many paints, you're helping people make good decisions. I tend to do a lot of research and go big straight out of the gate. I bought a 10-yard roll of 100% cotton hotpressed watercolor paper as my first watercolor paper. Some might say that's crazy, but it has worked out fantastically. I have the perfect paper for me, and I saved so much money.
I have to say how impressive it is that you can go through each Pallet in such detail. You are passionate about watercolor. It’s not crazy. I appreciate you going through them. I think there would be one or two I can keep my eye out for!!
*palettes
You are right. A collection of watercolor palettes is not so different from a collection of wooden ducks or fancy mugs. But as you say, we use those palettes and it's pure joy. I rotate through them so I don't neglect any of them. I have 22 palettes, some small and some very large.
Perfect necklace for this video!! I love watercolor pallets too. My favorite color is rainbow!!
Yay! I was looking for a video like this on your channel just yesterday. I started with a kind of shiny/gummy kiddie craft paint in 2021, then bought the interesting Miya rhombus pallette after Christmas when it was on sale super cheap, but I ended up having a family tragedy that kept me from getting back to my dorm for two months, so I picked up the Pretty Excellent pallette and ended up passing the Miya pallette on to my niece without opening it. Then I got the GenCrafts 48 because I liked the pallette and the way the pans click into 6-color frames that can also be rearranged. The paint isn’t as nice as the PE in my opinion, but the pallette itself is great. The little 6-pan frames are great to take out and put in a mint tin for travel, but the 48-pallette is kind of huge and heavy. So then I got their 24 set of metallic/pearlescent colors so that I could switch things out and work with a smaller set of colors. I figure as I run out of colors I’ll replace them with artist-grade stuff from tubes. Otherwise, I have my eye on some of those Paul Reuben’s artist grade pallettes and some of the Japanese-style watercolors. Anyway, thanks for the video. That Portable Painter pallette absolutely went on my wishlist 😅
I can relate to you palette adventure. I just bought a Paul Rubens set just for the palette. I'll give most of the paints away (it's one of the worst student grade sets) and replace them with my pre-poured pans.
I regret giving away some palettes a few years ago, bu t now I have an excuse to get more.
What Paul ruben set was bad?
Thanks for sharing! I'm sorry the internet has become a place where someone at your caliber (professional artist, teacher) it anyone has to do an almost 6 minute disclaimer for happily sharing their own personal items on their own channel. Love your channel and everything you willingly share. ❤️🙏🏾
Love that you shared this, the very first video I ever watched of yours was you using water color to paint flowers for a card that you were making, a long long time ago ❤
Wonderful!
Love your palette tours! Thank you so much for sharing. So much fun!!! Much love!
Loveee this video. I’m not very good at watercolors, yet I collect them. I’m drawn to the gorgeous colors and packaging. I’ll keep trying to master this difficult medium. I’m more of a gauche & oil paint painter yet I don’t collect them crazy I know lololll. Thank Lindsay so relaxing watching your great videos.
Thank you so much for showing us your watercolor palettes. It is great to know others love watercolor palettes so much. I really love all the supplies and they do accumulate over time. I always enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your time with us.
Thank you for this. I am relatively new to this, after a 20 or so year break, and your videos help. You dont have a problem, youre an artist, a teacher, have a business, so its natural you'd have a lot of supplies. Youre probably always in search of the perfect, accessible, affordable palette set for both you and your students and subscribers. Dont feel bad, at all, you are helping us so much. ❤🥰
Glad I could help!
Thank you for doing this. It’s nice to have you go back and show older sets vs newer ones and give some new recommendations. I wish you would do this for everything. It really helps inform my purchases.
I’m so excited to see them! Haters gonna hate. Don’t feel the need to give them so much of your time explaining yourself. You do you! And many of us do the same and aren’t nearly the artist or use them as often. Two plus hours of delightful watercolor palettes has me on the edge of my seat waiting! Here we go!
Ow so true don't waste time and thought on them!!! 😘
I had put this on while working in my craft room. My plans were to just have it as pleasant background noise, but kept stopping what I was doing to watch. Who knew a tour of your palettes would be so interesting? Loved all 2 hours and 40 min!
I LOVE your wholehearted appreciation for all the stories for each of them and how it doesn’t matter if it’s old or new, you obviously are so excited about them 😊😊😊
Thank you so much!!
So excited for this video! As a collector of things myself, I love seeing your joy in your palettes. 😊
Wonderful collection and please dont u worry about how much u have...u love every piece, i can hear, see and feel your passion...Lindsay please never apologise, u do u...u r fab and i so loved your tour and learnt lots x love Alli and Bella from the UK XXX
It isn't just about accumulating. When I look at my pallet collection I am inspired by all of the potential to create. I love letting my friends and family explore their own creativity with them. When I look at my stash I don't see excess, I see the promise of art and all of its possibilities.
Enjoy your collection!
Well, it took me a while to watch all the way through the video, but it was so much fun to see all of your palettes! Thanks for sharing with us!
You are so welcome!
This was so much fun to watch! Thanks for sharing! Your reviews and love of watercolor has led me to collect quite a few myself! And I don't regret it! 😁👍🏻
I am impressed by your collection and your memory as to when/price etc! Thanks for this video ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
Oh friend, no shame. This collection is a thing of beauty and I'm right there with ya!
Oh, I've been hoping for an updated watercolor palette tour!! Thanks for doing this again. I love to hear your thoughts on the different sets we see out there now.
I totally understand your attachment and enjoyment of the Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolor Field Pocket Set- it has everything you need in such a small set, perfectly fits my hand and is just so cute! And I wouldn’t worry about your love of watercolor Palettes, or art supplies of any kind because you are not the only one with that love, let me tell you. I have watched this video more times than I can count. Keep on enjoying and having fun.
Thanks for sharing!!
My husband is 80 and still had a set of pan paints from his school days - so about 70 years old and completely dried up. (They are Page London). I recently started spraying them with water to loosen them up and in fact they are now usable. I'm amazed! Glad they didn't get thrown away. (Love your videos.)
Nice!
I loved seeing all your palettes and your insightful comments were helpful. Good job!
I took your free Michael’s watercolor technique class today, I was a little late but made it. Absolutely loved the class and learned so much. This was my first time working with watercolor but have always wanted to do this. I am 66 and just recently had to leave my job due to illness. I am going to use these wonderful watercolor techniques you taught. I will have to go to work soon but until I find another job, I will be trying watercolor. Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful talent with us. Your class was very informative and you are an excellent teacher
You are so welcome! Enjoy!
Loved watching you talk about your collection. You give us so much information on each one. It amazes me that you can keep track of all the pigment information in them all. I have been looking for a new set to get for a vacation and now have good information on which are the best. By the way, i love your long videos. I watch them instead of tv in the evening. I learn something new each time. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
As a collector, I love that you collect watercolor pallets!
LOL Lindsey, although I don't have nearly the amount of watercolor palettes, I am also an art supply hoarder... you are certainly not alone!!! I need to have all the things!!
So true!
I really appreciate your videos Lindsay. I’ve been struggling this week with self doubt which has been a bit crippling. Art supplies, using them and being creative spark joy for me but I’ve been feeling really guilty about that. I’ve had a really horrible week but this has helped a lot. Thank you.❤
Thank you for showing us your collection!! No apologies necessary for bringing yourself joy! ( At least you collect useful things!)
Thank you so much!
I been following you for years even with my broken UA-cam that won't let me subscribe to anyone. Please you have no one to answer to about what you have or not have.. I love that you share something even more important is your knowledge of these paints. For most of us we know your smart on paint. Your the sweetest paint nerd we all look up too. 1st channel I check for info is yours. Your vast knowledge is needed. It saves us so much. Helps all save time and money while learning . Your teaching I love you for that. Take a bow you deserve that.
Thank you so much for doing this video Lindsey! I’ve only been painting for a year and a half and already have three brands (Paul Rubens, Kuretake Gansi Tambi, Daniel Smith) and have several self curated pallets, so who knows how extensive my collection will become with more time. I also have collections of colored pencils, coloring books, fabric, jigsaw puzzles and books, all of which came in very handy during the pandemic when we were all desperate for entertainment without going out! I’m also impressed with how much information you gave us about all your pallets, especially how the paints perform , with price and pigment information!
It’s so fun to see all your palettes! I need to go through my watercolors too. Seeing some of these has reminded me I have them too! And I’m sure it will tame my want monster as well.
I absolutely love love love seeing all of your watercolor palettes! One thing is that I get an idea of what I DON'T want to buy! But I also just love to see all of the palettes, they are so pretty. This is one of those videos that I will come back to time and again. Thanks for sharing. 😀
Loved seeing your pallet collection Lindsay! I have quite a few also and keep buying more when they are on sale.😃 Love, love the Portable Painter! I think it’s so genius! I love how it sits on my thigh when I am doing Plein air! I too can’t believe how you can remember the individual qualities of all of them. Very informative.
It's nice to see all of your palettes in one video. Your quick review of each one is very helpful. It was also helpful to have them grouped together by type. So thank you much, Lindsay!
Glad it was helpful!
So Excited for this! Thank you for sharing your amazing collection with us. Videos like this bring me out of my creative funks lol.
I'm so glad!
Hi Lindsay, I enjoy long format videos and I learn so much from you that helps me be a better artist and smarter consumer of art supplies. Thanks so much.
Love these types of videos. You keep me company while working.
Glad you like them!
Thank you Lindsay! That was so much fun! It’s so dark and cold today. Seeing this video pop up made my day!❤
So glad!
Thanks for showing us all your pallets. The best part is your enthousiasme for all of them. 🥰
I loved this tour of your palettes! Going deep into what is out there is so helpful for those of us who only want one or two palettes. It was also nice that you could compare palettes side by side.
You are so welcome!
It is so nice to hear your enthusiasm for your collection and you don't have to justify to anyone having them. ENJOY!!!!!
You are a collector and a guru with a treasure trove of knowledge that we can all appreciate and that makes your collection so valuable! I started watercolor after seeing your channel and listening to your tips and expertise so THANK YOU so much for sharing everything you do!😊
I'm crazy and bought 4 of the "mei liang" palettes just because I was hoping one of them would say "pretty excellent" like the listing but nope.😆 so I get the whole collection gone crazy thing, but when it makes you happy and you can gift things to friends (and libraries) you know they will never be wasted.💗
Wow, thank you!
This gives me encouragement to sort through my Alex drawer unit, which is absolutely groaning with watercolour palettes! 😂 They’re just so much fun to collect and use and enjoy. It makes me happy to see all of your watercolour treasures. ❤️
They are a joy!
What a wonderful collection with such a great history also! I think it is so cool how you have been collecting for more than thirty years! I love looking for unique containers to use and you have some great ones.
Thank you so much!
We all have our vices. I love collecting art supplies! If people can’t say anything nice then they don’t need to say anything!!! My children joke about my craft hoard, it’s all good!!!
Thank you! Don’t feel ashamed. You help all of us. Actually, I had planned to use my Rembrandts (which I bought on your rec) to do another lesson in your glass class this afternoon but after a lousy morning I just watched your palette tour instead and am relaxed and happy now. Will paint tomorrow! ❤
i love digging through my stash of art/craft/sewing supplies every few months. it feels like christmas as i rediscover things i have forgotten about lol.
We all need more JOY in our lives. If it brings you joy - that's all the reason you need!
I missed bits of this palette review here and there due to life, but appreciated the information I was able to glean from it. I'll probably go back again at some point and rewatch to see what I missed. I did want to say however that you should never feel guilty for your collection. You use your paints. You do reviews, you advise others based on your experience with different paints etc. Geez I mean you are an artist. You seem to be a very frugal person in other aspects of your life, so don't beat yourself up and don't let others do so either. If you get hateful comments, screw them, some people are just miserable people. Enjoy all you want for as long as you enjoy them or think you'll find a use for them and never get rid of them until you want to. Don't let mean spirited people rob you of your job. Thanks for sharing!
Lindsay, I for one enjoy watching you get so much joy 🥰 from your wonderful collection! And that you’re enjoyment of crafting, and teaching have helped people like me learn so much from what you love. I’m not ashamed to say your my crafting Netflix!! Kudos to likeminded souls 😊🦋🌺🦋
Thank you so much!
So fun! I’m looking forward to watching the entire video, but I keep taking breaks to put things in my online wish list. Thanks, Lindsay. I hope you’re having a great day!
I love seeing watercolor palettes! I’m with you and collect art supplies of all values; very very expensive to very very inexpensive and everything in between!’
I don’t buy alot of clothes, purses or jewelry like my friends. I’m glad they enjoy the things they buy…
One friend bought a purse when they went to Italy that was handmade and VERY expensive. She has other expensive purses along with her cheaper ones. She enjoys them immensely and very proud of her nicer ones.
Now, that personally doesn’t interest me but I’m happy for her and she is for my supplies even though she doesn’t paint or do paper crafts.
It’s just much nicer to share your joy instead of just “bitching “ and spreading negativity.
So you “go girl “ and don’t let anyone rain on your excitement!!
I’m nearly 65 and I just pray for those who are so miserable and I don’t let them have any influence on my attitude.
Thank you for sharing!!!
You got me excited!!! We’ve moved and remodeling so much of my things are boxed up.
Blessings,
Nancy Rolfe
The only people who complain about what brings others Joy, are very bitter inside. I LOVE seeing palettes and things that bring others joy!
I guess people who are critical might have makeup reviewers in mind, since they often have far too much makeup to use up within the boundaries of the products' expiration dates. Some reviewers just buy makeup, review them, and never use them again and leave their stuff to rot until they eventually expire.
Unlike them, you use all your paints regularly, and it's very clear that you pay a lot of care and attention to your collection. I've watched your videos for quite some time and it's always nice to see a different palette in every tutorial. Your paints are well-loved, and I'm very grateful for the time you've spent to review all of them for us.
Lol Colorado is mostly pretty humid Lindsey maybe Arizona and New Mexico
I love all your videos!!! It’s so happy to watch! ❤
Love it! Great video! So helpful to actually see all these different brands and get your imput.
Glad it was helpful!
I absolutely love this. It inspired me. I also love palettes, and different art supplies. It is soul enriching. Never feel guilty for passion. It makes you soar. 💖
So true!
Ohh, I really loved watching all your watercolour palettes 🥰 It is obvious that they spark you for you! I even sparked joy to me when I watched them ❤️ Don't apologise that you collect wc palettes. We can collect what ever we want, right... so instead of apologising, feel proud of your wonderful collection ❤️ Love from a fellow collector 🫶😊 🎨
I absolutely love palette and swatching videos. They are just so darn enjoyable. I do have my own issues with collecting watercolor, so I totally feel validated! I don’t buy shoes, bags, make up, etc, so I’m totally good. I just reinforce the value of my watercolor to my daughter for when I am someday gone and she has to sort through my collections!
Thank you Lindsay! I enjoyed seeing all the different brands. I love QOR and when I started out with their sample sets that's when I fell in love with them. I did purchase 3 sets when they had the small 6 tubes in the tins. Just about done with the paints, but did purchase their largest tube of Cobalt Teal. Love it.
It's 4 in the morning so I didn't finish video (yet) but I have you on in the background while I crochet and you have such a calming voice. Thank you for spending time to tell us about the things you love. It make my heart happy to know how supportive your subscribers are of your passion. I hope to watch more of you in the future
-New subscriber ❤
Oh thank you!
Just finished this lovely video, and I have to say, I am so impressed that you know what is in the majority of the palettes and how much you paid for the palettes~ I know you had a recent chat on here about whether you can be called frugal, but honestly, you know exactly where all your hard-earned money is going so you are much better than most~ thank you for sharing! I'm always fascinated by other people's palettes and how they store things, so thank you for a glimpse into your art supplies. And keep 'em coming! 😊
Wow! I watched in a few sessions but so glad I did. I saw your last tour of these palettes and this one was even better. You are still frugal, many were shared stashes, and the way your ducktape for laminating ☺️👍🏻
I've added so many palettes to my wishlist. I do wish your amazon was sorted a bit: pens/markers, pencils, watercolor, pan pastels, pottery, etc
Thanks for taking the time to share this!
That's a great idea!
LOVED this! Thank you for doing it 😊 I had to watch it in three different segments though, hah! Thankful for all you do for this little community 🥰
You are so welcome!
I got into collecting watercolor pallets after subscribing to this channel 😅 You’re a true influencer, Lindsay. I don’t regret a single purchase though, all my pallets bring me lots of joy and I love them all ❤️
Thank you for posting this. It took me 3 goes to watch the whole video but this was partly because I kept pausing it to google the palettes that I was drooling over 😂
Brilliant. Thank you. I'm halfway through watching while painting at the same time. Incredibly informative and I am so glad you have used them as well. Really enjoying myself. Love from the Isle of Wight, England.
Thanks!
Just to let you know right now! I understand completely! And can't wait to see them all lol!! Go girl❤
I really enjoyed this upload. I love all your watercolor palettes and it was nice to lissen to your oppinions and reasons for adding them to the collection. It made me drag out several of my own palettes and just.. "say hello.." to them.. lol
