The wide angle of the waterfall from within the stream, but any PS tricks to restore the waterfall to its proper prominence that the wide angle minimizes?
Those waterfall shots with the ferns were stellar, but for me, these majestic trees and reflections in the river at the end take the crown. But frankly, I loved all of these shots - what a fantastic location!
Thanks so much man, I really appreciate it! Agreed, I went into this shoot with the intention of taking one or two shots of the falls. But came away with a very unexpected variety of images!
Woah! Nigel and Michael in one place?! Plus a wicked great photography lesson to boot?? You both have helped me take my photography to the next level. Thanks for both your great work!!
This is one of your best videos you’ve made, Michael. Such a beautiful location with such variety of compositions even on the way forth and back. Here every photographer can learn something - great. Enough photos for a small but amazing photo book 😄👍🏼
Confession: The highest number of photography possibilities explored by a photographer at a single location 🙌👏👌 Keep on inspiring us man 🙏 loads of love 🤗📸
Been visiting this spot since I was a teen , back in my film days . Still get up there every few years . Haven't done the winter scene yet but it's on my list and not getting any younger ! Would have to be a hellacious scramble down in .
Oh I love Abiqua. I live not to far from it. Last I visited was in the fall. You’ve really come up with some amazing compositions! Hard to pick a favorite since they are all so good.
Watching this makes me realize that it is so easy to take a half dozen shots from the front and think we've got everything. You just showed us is there is much more if we would take the time to slow down, absorb it all and think deeply about all the alternatives. Great video Michael!
Great video - love all of the images - especially the early tight shots of the waterfall (my preference is for the faster shutter speed) and the images of the forest with the light in the distance are stunning - so peaceful !!! Thanks for all your inspiration and instruction !!
What a GREAT video, Michael. I love the way you compose your photos, and your use of both long and short focal lengths. The abstract shots you get are amazing. Thank you for sharing your work.
That was great. We can learn just as much from your relaxed, spontaneous wandering as we can from a more scripted style. Thanks for demonstrating how we can have fun and still produce strong work. As always, outstanding photos.
What a great example of how to work a scene. You really tried a variety of angles, focal lengths, exposures and moved around in a fairly small area. I think many of us are not that patient to stay in one place. We feel like we might miss something and as a result we end up with average images. Thanks for the reminder of how to work a scene.
While the waterfall was absolutely gorgeous I kept noticing the scenery behind you. Well done Sir. Looks like a place you can spend a whole day at and not run out of compositions.
Such a great idea with the POV, very easy to follow along with your thought process on composition and setting choices. Thank you for bringing us along to this beautiful location.
I’ve been binging on your episodes at night in bed. As a photo myself, they are so calming and it makes me want to explore in the mountains where I live. Thank you 🤍
I really enjoy your videos, Michael. So many photography youtubers are just too over the top with constant superlatives, but you take a no less enthusiastic, yet much more relaxed approached. It must be your Bay Area chill! I felt like I was there with you going through your various experimentations. Your workshops must be very. fun! Thanks!
As a b&w fan whose photographic eye leans heavily towards close ups the one at 7:50 is my favorite. But, that reflection shot at 9:22 is sweet and looks like a classic double exposure in a way.
I enjoy watching your perspective on the shoot. You saw things I did not and I saw things you did not. Had you turned around at the beginning of the shoot, you would have seen the beautiful tunnel of green exiting the falls.
Michael, thank you very much for sharing this awesome video- so inspirational! I enjoyed the ‘being there with you’ feel of the video and appreciate all the great info you imparted while in a stunning location. Thanks again!😎
Love the experimentation. And your vid editing is perfect. The immediate gratification of seeing your final shots right after you compose is super rewarding. Thanks Michael!!
A true master of your craft. Seemingly effortless to capture amazing image after amazing image. But we all know, you've spent years and years and practiced with thousands upon thousands of images. You're a big inspiration for me. Thank you, Michael.
Thats a beautiful place and you took great shots!! The one at 7:50 is a "Michael Shainblum photo" that we can recognize without any explanation. That's what I feel anyways. The one at 15:45 is another favorite, between all these beautiful shots. Great video again!
Brilliant video with some great inspirational shots. Love the long exposure zoomed right in with the waterfall filling the left third. Great contrast. As a side note, what boots and socks are you wearing and are you walking home with wet feet?! Keep the great content coming👋
Thanks for sharing. What a great mornings photography! Yes, I’m with you the intimate and more abstract images are definitely worth the effort and time.
Another great video. Thanks for taking the time to teach. Cool to see you photograph places that we live close to and visit. Made the mistake this past June of taking the first trail down on the right. My legs still hurt.
Indeed a good "what to do as a photographer when hiking" video! Also i noticed how a "landscape" photographer after some years of getting masters, they then explore other aspects of photography such as details photography as you do, or wildlife etc. Its like you are getting a level-up.
This video exemplifies the true joy of getting immersed in your surroundings and finding the unique compositions to showcase the natural beauty Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. Thanks for sharing.
As someone who enjoys capturing waterfalls, I really appreciate the different perspectives and compositions. You gave me something to think about the next time I go out. You should come out to the Finger Lakes region of NY, we have hundreds of waterfalls to choose from.
IMO you are one of the most creative and inspiring photographers on YT. I always look forward to seeing your abstract/intimate scene images. Great video and images, thanks
Honestly - how were you the only one there?!? Thank you once again for sharing your incredible photography and explaining as you go along. Love hearing your thought processes - very educational, and beautiful images as always
Fantastic video! Love the images of the waterfall through the ferns and those last few shots of the forest! You have captured the local to beautifully! Its also so great when one location can yield many different images yoy can be happy with! 👍🤗
I really love this waterfall and the photos you have done there! They are all so beautiful. I would like to know the name of the waterfall and it’s location. I have a few Irish friends that will visit and all we are going to do is photograph, hike and tour. I’d like to take them here to this waterfall. Thanks Michael!
All of those images were more than cool, Michael, they were genius. The first session, in front and steps to the side of the waterfall, are my favourites (with the faster shutter speed). And the forest and stream images too... these I think are all ageless. The slow shutter on water (if I'm allowed to say) will be an era in photography. As someone always says "It's purely subjective." Absolutely love your channel. You make my eyes pop!
16:21 Jokes on you! I know how these shots turned out. Straight 🔥! Looks like it was one of those days where everything clicked and flowed. No pun intended!
I think you are my favourite landscape photographer on UA-cam, you have pulled out so many compositions from that landscape it’s inspiring. Great work. In the area you filmed this do you have bears? We don’t have dangerous wild life in the UK (except in town on Saturday nights!), we killed all those hundreds of years ago, so I am always intrigued how you safely enter forests in the US?
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words. We have some bears here on the west coast, mainly black bears. In all my time shooting/exploring in CA/OR, I have only encountered two and they were both in the Eastern Sierras though, both ran away when they saw us. I am a little more concerned with Mountain Lions than bears out here. I also run into Coyotes every other day or so on the trails here, but they also run away pretty fast when they see me.
Great video Michael! I'm always amazed at how many great compositions you can get from 1 location. Your landscapes are great but, I love your ability to find abstract patterns and detail shots. You have so many amazing shots of waterfall spray for example. This is a good reminder to not leave an interesting scene too hastily. Keep up the great work!
What’s you favorite image from this video? Please let me know in the comments 👇
Many but the best one for me is the one u shown in the thumbnail 😇🤩💯
For sure the one when you were standing in the creek.
The wide angle of the waterfall from within the stream, but any PS tricks to restore the waterfall to its proper prominence that the wide angle minimizes?
Difficult choice but I would say the photos taken handheld and framed with the ferns and some with long exposure.
Those waterfall shots with the ferns were stellar, but for me, these majestic trees and reflections in the river at the end take the crown. But frankly, I loved all of these shots - what a fantastic location!
Such an amazing video Mate - just goes to show how many compositions there are in one spot... just need to look around and persevere...
Thanks so much man, I really appreciate it! Agreed, I went into this shoot with the intention of taking one or two shots of the falls. But came away with a very unexpected variety of images!
Brilliant video, instructive and inspirational. The POV style works really well
Woah! Nigel and Michael in one place?! Plus a wicked great photography lesson to boot?? You both have helped me take my photography to the next level. Thanks for both your great work!!
Your “think aloud” as you worked the scene was one of the most effective photo vids I’ve seen. We need more like this! Well done!
I appreciated it a lot too
This is one of your best videos you’ve made, Michael. Such a beautiful location with such variety of compositions even on the way forth and back. Here every photographer can learn something - great. Enough photos for a small but amazing photo book 😄👍🏼

Well done. Abiqua is def a spiritual experience 🔥
I've always loved this spot. Usually quiet too because of that road. I'd love to shoot it during a big freeze with ya.
Been visiting this spot since I was a teen , back in my film days . Still get up there every few years . Haven't done the winter scene yet but it's on my list and not getting any younger ! Would have to be a hellacious scramble down in .
Let’s go man, that would be a ton of fun!
The reflection image at 9:21 is basically a double exposure; but a natural double exposure! Bravo. Exceptional.
Oh I love Abiqua. I live not to far from it. Last I visited was in the fall. You’ve really come up with some amazing compositions! Hard to pick a favorite since they are all so good.
Never expected to see so many beautiful captures from a single location. Thank you for sharing this with us ❤
Watching this makes me realize that it is so easy to take a half dozen shots from the front and think we've got everything. You just showed us is there is much more if we would take the time to slow down, absorb it all and think deeply about all the alternatives. Great video Michael!

The image at 14:26 looks almost magical. Your processing technique is spot on. Thanks for another great tutorial.
What a GREAT video, Michael. I love the way you compose your photos, and your use of both long and short focal lengths. The abstract shots you get are amazing. Thank you for sharing your work.
I could watch this channel for ages. This channel is such an inspiration and I hope to create images even remotely as good as these one day
Thats what is all about having fun in a beautiful forest and the result is Stunning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD Bless !!!!!!!!!!!
Love PoV style. I could watch a landscape PoV all day, even without the talking just to watch a shoot and take in the sights and sounds.
That was great. We can learn just as much from your relaxed, spontaneous wandering as we can from a more scripted style. Thanks for demonstrating how we can have fun and still produce strong work. As always, outstanding photos.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much!
The last reflective low to the water ! wow ! you have given me some more ideas to try ! Cheers from New Zealand

Enjoyed this video. Good to see you were not afraid to go in the water - just hoping you brought an extra pair of shoes!
I’ve been binging on your episodes at night in bed. As a photo myself, they are so calming and it makes me want to explore in the mountains where I live. Thank you 🤍
I think that's your best video ever or almost top 3. So many interesting for improve composition and play around with different focal lens. Congrats!
I really enjoy your videos, Michael. So many photography youtubers are just too over the top with constant superlatives, but you take a no less enthusiastic, yet much more relaxed approached. Amazing shots, the one @7.11 landscape short exposure was perfect. I would easily print and put that on my wall
amazing photograhy great video cant pick any image thay are all great cant wait for more
As a b&w fan whose photographic eye leans heavily towards close ups the one at 7:50 is my favorite. But, that reflection shot at 9:22 is sweet and looks like a classic double exposure in a way.
You have an eye for pictures- You can see creatively.
love the drama of the shot at 7:50 Powerful!
I enjoy watching your perspective on the shoot. You saw things I did not and I saw things you did not. Had you turned around at the beginning of the shoot, you would have seen the beautiful tunnel of green exiting the falls.
Can only imagine how nice the colours would be with a decent amount of sun getting on those rocks - great photos mate !
Nice one Michael, looked like a great day out
Thank you so much Adam!
Man you got so many insane comps ! I really liked the colour pallet of that spot ! The interspersed slow mo was sweet too 👏👏
Thanks so much man, really glad you dig the slow-mo shots!
Thank you for the very practical advice! Lots of really cool ideas that I can’t wait to use.
Michael, thank you very much for sharing this awesome video- so inspirational! I enjoyed the ‘being there with you’ feel of the video and appreciate all the great info you imparted while in a stunning location. Thanks again!😎
Amazing to see no one in this cute place
Great video. Love you walking us through your thought process while on site.
Love the experimentation. And your vid editing is perfect. The immediate gratification of seeing your final shots right after you compose is super rewarding. Thanks Michael!!

I have enjoyed this new video 🙂👍
Holy crow, talk about creatively working a scene!!!!! 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Rick!

The last reflection - the greens in the water looks awesome!
Thank you :)
Excellent. Many great images,
This video exemplifies the true joy of getting immersed in your surroundings and finding the unique compositions to showcase the natural beauty Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. Thanks for sharing.
I love the way you share your incredible talent with us. It's hard to pick which images were the best because I liked them all.
I could feel your excitement and joy - and it shows in your images. Well done! Favorite? All of them! With love from Atlanta.
I would give a million thumbs up if this was possible. Work of art!
As someone who enjoys capturing waterfalls, I really appreciate the different perspectives and compositions. You gave me something to think about the next time I go out. You should come out to the Finger Lakes region of NY, we have hundreds of waterfalls to choose from.
Incredible video…compositions are beautiful! That Zeiss 16-35 f/4 is amazing (I have one). Thanks for sharing… be safe Man! Cheers..
Michael, as always, a wealth of alternative perspectives! Love the over/underwater shot with the gopro!
I agree with all the other comments. I love all of your videos but this one is amazing. The photos … beyond amazing.
Great video, excellent photos
IMO you are one of the most creative and inspiring photographers on YT. I always look forward to seeing your abstract/intimate scene images. Great video and images, thanks
super location!
Very nice, Getting some ideas for the next time. Thanks for sharing your videos
Thanks Micheal for a great video. Planning to photograph a waterfall in Mammoth in a few days.
Very helpful! Lots of great images to choose from, but I hope you weren't hiking alone.
Thank you for the video. That is a lovely spot and you got beautiful compositions that I would never have thought of. Many magical images there.
Fabulous images! Very inspiring - now, if there was only a waterfall nearby.....
Great video Michael ! I really love waterfalls. Photographing them is always magical.
Great video Michael. Love your commentary and how you tried many compositions. And they were all beautiful. Great work!
Such a beautiful spot and you appeared to have it all to yourself. Was it a long hike to get to the falls?
Honestly - how were you the only one there?!? Thank you once again for sharing your incredible photography and explaining as you go along. Love hearing your thought processes - very educational, and beautiful images as always
9.23 shot. just magical 😍
Amazing video, so many different compositions at the one location. Really enjoyed this one
Fantastic video! So many compositions. My favourite is the waterfall shot at 7.50.
Fantastic video! Love the images of the waterfall through the ferns and those last few shots of the forest! You have captured the local to beautifully!
Its also so great when one location can yield many different images yoy can be happy with! 👍🤗
Fantastic! Thank you!
You make it look so easy. I’d be happy with just one of your shots but you’ve inspired me!
Love seeing how you work this scene! Love the reflections and the compositions.
Ohhhhhh, how magical! I was waiting for the Unicorn.🦄
Haha a unicorn here would have been a rainbow showing up in the falls.
That was great and boy, you really worked that scene. Top job.
Bravo! 👏👏👏
Such creative perspectives! Your videos are always an inspiration
love the rocks sides ofwaterfalls
one of the best videos on your channel, mate.
Abique Falls is on my bucket list..... great stuff....!
The waterfall reflection you flipped, that's a great image. Excellent video, well explained (your thought process) and lots to think about.
I really love this waterfall and the photos you have done there! They are all so beautiful. I would like to know the name of the waterfall and it’s location. I have a few Irish friends that will visit and all we are going to do is photograph, hike and tour. I’d like to take them here to this waterfall. Thanks Michael!
Love all of the images that you took in this video, thank you for sharing them
You are truly a magician, I cannot pick just one shot! Thank you for all your efforts.
Thank you so much!
Let's enjoy waterfalls as much as we can. Who knows if this climate change will leave us orphaned of them !!

What time of day did you go to this waterfall?? It’s one of my favorites. When ever I go there’s lots of people. Amazing photos that you captured!!
Another delightful vblog! Very nice to watch.
Wonderful video and a stunning location. The images were beautiful
