- Опубліковано 16 вер 2023
- As a landscape photographer, wildflowers hold a special place in my heart. They offer stunning colors and textures, often serving as the perfect foreground element for your landscape photography. However, the biggest challenge with capturing them is contending with wind. This can be particularly frustrating, especially when you aim to get close enough to the flowers for focus stacking.
In this video, I'll discuss my favorite technique for getting sharp flower photography in windy conditions. I'll also share other tips and tricks to enhance your floral photography skills. I really hope you enjoy the video, and thanks so much for watching!

Mike, as always, I really enjoy your photos. In my opinion, you, Nick Page and Adam Gibbs are the best on You Tube.
Wow thank you so much! Nick and Adam are awesome so it’s an honor to be mentioned with such talented folks.
Breathtakingly beautiful images, Michael. Not only do your videos always teach me something but most importantly, soothe my soul. Thank you for that.
Hey thank you so much Annie, I am so glad to hear that! :)
This must have been a banner year for Lupine because it was the predominate flower here in Colorado (Crested Butte) area this past July. I was fortunate not to have windy conditions and came away with a good photo of the Lupines. Other times, as you said, the wind makes it very challenging, so, yes, pulling back a couple of feet and playing with the f-stop is about the only. Oh, on not getting your shadow in the photo, get a wireless shutter release remote, I have one for my Nikon and works well for a lot of different situations.
I know that I sound like a broken record after watching your videos, Michael, but this was another great one. If I said that the photos you shared are great, it would be a gross understatement. I always like your videos and learn from them. Thank you for sharing.
Damn I really appreciate the kind words Neal, thank you so much for saying that!
great images.... thanks for taking me on your adventure!
Yikes,

Killing it as usual with these latest videos buddy. It’s been a while since I’ve been out there. This is inspiring stuff. 👍🏻
Stunning images Michael, and some very good advice, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching John, I really the support!
I love your videos, Michael. This one is dear to my heart too. Nothing beats wildflowers in a beautiful landscape with a gorgeous-coloured sky. Thank you for the settings.
You are welcome, thanks so much for watching the video Joan!
Absolutely stunning images. Thanks for the focus tips.
Beautiful shots. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Always great stuff from you. Thank you for the lessons, info and your time.
Awesome stuff Michael! Really enjoyed the simpler explanation of hyperfocal distance and applying that in the field
Stunning beautiful photos. Amazing sceneries. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning photos
I enjoyed this one pal! Great area, shots and advice as always 💪💪
thanks so much man!
Great video & gorgeous images!
Absolutely beautiful, thanks for the video.
Thanks Michael. Another helpful video, and stunning images in a beautiful part of the world.
Really glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Thanks Michael ❤ really appreciate your response 🙂
These images were beautiful! Loved every one of them! Such sublime conditions to witness.
thank you so much!
stunning photos!! Thanks a lot for all tips!
Such a good video Michael! Really helpful tips for windy flowers and I appreciate it. Also, these are lovely shots and fantastic processing!
Fantastic , thanks for the tips 👍👍👍
Lots of great advice and beautiful images!
Thanks Barbara!
Beautiful! I can’t wait to get back there.
Beautiful photos, Michael, and great tips, thanks!
Love the lupins and with such a fantastic backdrop makes for some beautiful images. Love the images you were able to capture.
Those are beautiful, thank you!
Great shooting with you those few days, Michael! Your images came out beautifully, as I knew they would.
Thanks so much man, it was a ton of fun hanging out!
Just stunning!
thank you!
Great shots, Michael! Good to see Josh again, I miss his videos!
This is such a timely video for me. This summer I’m going to the San Juan Mountains in western Colorado for two weeks to photograph wildflowers. I’ve been fearing windy conditions but your techniques should really help improve my chances for getting some keepers. Your photos are amazing by the way.
Top results out of the combination of eye, technique and searching the right angle !
Fabulous video, Michael
Excellent...thank you very much for sharing great tips...
Awesome video ❤
amazing video!
Magnificent as always. It almost seems you could make a book entirely of images seen here.
Amazing photos and a great vlog 😃
Some epic images! Every summer my brother and I would camp in the Sierras and these images brought back some wonderful memories. I will be retiring in the next few months and will need to add Hwy 395 as a general destination for some landscape photography. Thanks for the inspiration!
What a amazing video ❤
loved the video Michael! Can't wait to try it out for myself.
Thanks for watching, definitely give it a try! :)
Great images! Haven’t been there in the spring but now I’ll have go
Lovely pictures of a lovely place 🤩 and again a inspiring video 😆👍
Fantastic video, Michael. Really lovely pics. I learn so much from your videos, and your pleasant demeanor makes the video that much more enjoyable. In the future, I would appreciate you sharing your focal lengths. It would help with planning lens selection and composition for when we try similar shoots.
Hey Casey! Thanks, Almost of these were 16mm, with the exception of some 2 image panoramas, which were also shot at 16mm. The closer shot of Mt Whitney was I think 50mm or so.
Very nicely done!
Awesome results. ❤
I wouldn’t have thought 1/100th of a second would have been fast enough to stop movement. I learned something new! Great video. Amazing photos!
Hey thanks so much! Depends how intense the wind is. I always check on the back and zoom into 10X to fully check. But I would say on average this trip I was doing anywhere from 1/60th to 1/125th to get these results.
soooo beautiful,❤❤.. im soo inspired of your works sir....
Great advice! Super images. Thanks for taking me along!
Thanks so much!
Every Photograph is Epic ❤❤❤
I'm fairly new to your channel and I subscribed just about right away. I really enjoyed the video. The scenes were breathtaking, the photos sublime, and I got some really good tips as a bonus. Thanks and I look forward to seeing more of your work. I'll have to start watching all the videos in your backlog.
Best photos I’ve seen in. Long time!! 🤙🏼✊🏼
Beautiful work Michael!
Many thanks!
I'm grinning watching this. Great stuff. I've not been to Alabama Hills during Spring. I'll have to add that to my bucket list.
nice job bro!!
it really hit the spot.
Goooood times!! This video came out great!👊🏼😊
I’m going to share your videos with our photo club
Helpful video
Awesome 😊
Well done Michael 👍😉
I love you waking up to a new Shainblum video. Pairs well with coffee
Hey thanks so much Louis! Funny that watching the video pairs well with coffee. Because it takes a hell of a lot of coffee to make these. 😂
@@MichaelShainblum it pays off. I really look forward to your videos. They’re dangerous though. Y’all making me want to book flights to the west coast because we have nothing all that great on the east coast xD.
Fantastic images. Living on the plains the wind is almost always an issue with wild flowers, one day I put the camera on a slow shutter speed and got some interesting abstract flower images, but I was the only one who liked them, which is fine.
Thank you Michael. Actionable advice. I love that whole area of Eastern California.
Thanks for watching! :)
Wow! Some of the most beautiful lupine images I've ever seen!
Wow thank you so much!
Another lovely video, Michael. Of all the youtube photographers out there that I watch, your videos are always balanced and beautiful. - lower key thatn the hype-driven others. Thank you! PS - a Spring video for Fall?
Beautiful photos!
Thank you!
Great video! There is a face in those clouds from your favorite image of the trip!
Really glad you liked that one, thanks so much!
Congratulations on the fantastic Film (no video). I was amazed at the wonderful pictures! Thanks for the precious tips. I think the post production technique is equally important to achieve such results. Fantastic job.
thanks so much!
Magnificent
I’ve been really wanting to check out Alabama hills. This spring may need to be the time!
Wow! I just discovered your videos today. This is the third video of yours I've watched so far. You are amazing. I was a bit shocked when you mentioned Josh as I'd discovered his photography a few years ago. I grew up in Mammoth Lakes and I love the shots you got in this video. I also appreciate all your tips as I've not been shooting for some time and the last shots I got on a recent photo trek were out of focus when you zoom in...so I've decided to start back at the basics...thank you so much for your videos!
... thank you for the tips... all pictures are amazing😍, but i think picture from 12:52 is the most beautiful for me... and it's always pleasure to watch your videos ...
Great photos,
I have learned a lot from your videos
Love from India
Btw,
have you tried to intentionally blur the wildflowers using larger shutter speed
So good
Amazing ❤❤❤😊 thank you…😊
Very nice video! 😊
thank you!
I was expecting a longer shutter shot with those moving colorful wildflowers but still learned a lot.
Always so helpful. Beautiful images. Love that area. Was this during the spring or summer?
Hey thanks! This was late springtime.
04:27 even the ladybug is visible 🥰 Great video!
Absolutely stunning! Do you think there will be lupins this year in the Eastern Sierra again?
Jesus Michael.....it's like you're in the scene from "What Dreams May Come" a living painting. Beautiful images 👌
Hey thanks Brian!
I’ve traveled from NJ to the Alabama Hills a few times, but always in the fall, and have always wanted to head there again in spring. When are the lupine in bloom? Thanks…
Wonderful video 💮
Thanks Andrew!
Your stunning results offer convincing proof the simple strategy you suggest can work: f/16, hyper focus, shutter speed short enough to freeze motion, and whatever ISO it takes for a usable exposure. I’m reminded I have a 24mm tilt-shift lens I should put in the pack on such occasions to add focal plane tilt as an option to the combination of variables.
You should make a video on how you get those GREAT video shots!!!!
Once again Michael, just fantastic. I'm curious, the shot at 12:25. Was the sky portion a long exposure? Looks like some nice motion in those clouds.
Thanks so much, nah just a quick shutter for that one
amazing video once again! :)
I'd love to see the raw shots before the edited ones, that would be awesome!
Also quick question, are you still using the tamron 28-200 2.8 and what's your experience with it?
I love my 28-200 I didn’t used it for this session. But I was in the redwoods a few days after this and used it for my entire shoot, so it really depends on the subject.
Love the vid. Kind of off topic though. Is you backpack made for hiking or photography???
Wow what a wonderful video and superb images! Such valuable information imparted too, thanks for the tips!
I am curious to ask, you don't use an Lbracket any particular reason why not?
Thanks again for the inspiration 😊
Hey thanks so much Neil.
On the L bracket topic. I have a few universal ones that I use from time to time, but they always end up loosening over time, also they are a bit bulky when attached to the camera. I used to have some nice cheap off-brand ones for my D850 and my older Canons. But the only one I found for the Sony A1 was from RSS for over 200 dollars which I just can't justify.
@@MichaelShainblum ah man, I know how it is. The price tag can be heavy indeed.
I am the same having off brand Amazon ones and it's painful every time I need to change the battery I have to take it off and put it back on etc. Maybe next time I'll leave it at home and see how I go!
Cheers ☺️
Micheal: I turned around and then I took this…
*proceeds to drop the most jaw dropping photo**
This video leaves me in awe, love it.
Hey thank you so much Ethan!
Did you try to use a flash like Godox Macro Ring? I have tried and sometimes it gives very interesting result.
Wall worthy. Every single one. Makes me want to be there. Maybe someday....
Would love to see how you post-process and blend foreground and background photos. Everybody processes differently......
In this case I just two simple layers and brush the foreground out using a mask. Not a lot to write home about to be honest haha.
