The author herself said that that if Bradley was in his prime, none of the characters working together would've stood a chance. Its simply due to Bradley's old age that all of them can even pull this off.

@@ardel-4964 She kind of implies that when the Bradley family was introduced/explained in one of the Fullmetal Alchemist guide books from the 2010s. It kind of was a joking tone (The author was explaining how Ms. Bradley was so OP that she is the only possible character in the story who can really hit a shot at King Bradley), but the author pretty much meant that the young King Bradley would have been a completely different opponent to pick a fight when compared to the old Bradley.

And the best part about it is that 90% of all the fighting you see in the series done by Bradley is is Human strength and skill, with his eyepatch on he doesn't use the Ultimate Eye and all of the stuff you see him do is just his skill alone.
They did spinn the coup as a coup against Bradley's regime to the general population, so technically they could have claimed that his generals tried to take over in his absence. Especially with how those generals were eaten by the cyclops pseudo-homunculi and can't dispute this anymore. ^^ As cool as cutting a tank-shell apart is, it's pretty stupid too. No matter how supernatural his perception is, his sword is still a physical sword made of steel. With the shell shape and velocity, the blade would just be pushed aside. But even if supernatural muscles could let you keep the blade at it's very center, that would just shatter the blade. And even if the blade was of some super-dense and hard material, the two halfs of the shell would not change trajectory enough to completely miss Bradley. It's one of those "don't think about it" awesome but dumb moment. To paraphrase Honest Trailer: "Either one of the most awesome dumb scenes or one of the dumbest awesome scenes." ^^
Something that is funny to think about is that all those people saw how Hoenhaim and Trisha created Ed and then Al and some might have been childrem, I kinda feel bad for them they problably were traumatize after that
