Renau that red head guy templer caused that chaos yes, he attacked an unarm pilgrimage to Mecca from Syria...there supposed to be a peace treaty between Saladin and The crusader kingdom so Renaud should not attacked the pilgrims. But he did so Saladin came from Damascus with his army to avenge his people.
In real life though the red guy is a good guy who mostly defended the pilgrims. The muslims are the ones who often raided and actually imprisoned and tortutered the guy for decades after being ransomed back by the King.
In history, Salahudin's sister wasn't captured. That was added to make Salahudin's reaction less cynical. The actual Balian was Liam Neeson's age. In history, Queen Sybilla stayed with her husband. The last king, bad Guy, outlived them all, as King of Cyprus.
They never kill his sister but they kill his 2 sons. Salahuddin never want revenge, he did this because treaty from Muslim to Christian who live inside Jerusalem. In my opinion one of the sadder failings of this movie was killing off the “crew” his father had so soon. That’s a rag tag team if I’ve ever seen one and I’d love to see them all live longer. The German and the one guy who was with him the longest before the ship crash specifically

Yes that was incense, because hygiene was not really in fashion by the Christians. Hygiene was more practiced by Islam and their medical practices were more advanced than in Europe. They also gave us mathematics. Cibelas was also a leper like his uncle the king. It shows more in the director's cut.
King and his nephew had leprosy. A little bit of penicillin could have saved both of their lives. I am a historian, and this is one of my favorite films. The cinematography is extraordinary. And I love the fact that it portrays the regular people on both sides in a decent light. I love the friendship that ensues from the point the horse tries to be taken by the Islamic Lord, until the other Islamic Lord and his friend gives the horse back. That relationship is dynamic. It's one of the things that makes this film so extraordinary. But they do a good job of capturing the period and what everything was like during that time. And you're right, the average age was somewhere between 30 to 50. The wealthier you were the longer your lifespan. Normally. Even at the time of the American Revolution, it was rare for someone to live as long as Washington and Franklin. Even at the turn of the last century, the late 19th century early 20th century, the average family had eight kids, four of whom made it to adulthood. I can't even imagine the world they lived in where they had to be that comfortable with death. Braveheart is an extraordinary film as well. You'll also like last of the Mohicans with danielis and Madeline Stowe, and of course dances with wolves with Kevin Costner.
This is the better version, because elements of the story are restored that are important. Balian's brother is a villain. Balian's character development is the point of the story. There are aspects that are happening in Balian's imagination. Balian's vision regarding his dead wife and of Sybilla, at the end, reflect his emotions. A good action movie, even if you aren't religious.

The usual Hollywood wrecking of history. Balian was never a blacksmith and never lived in France. He was born and lived in the Holy Land. He was in his 40s at the time of the fall of Jerusalem. His wife wasn't dead, she (widow of Amalric IV iirc) was alive and well at the time of the movie. When Balian was captured at Hattin, he was allowed to return to Jerusalem for one day to retrieve his wife. Balian didn't need to teach his people about irrigation, they'd been doing it for centuries. There was no romance with Sybilla. She was entrenched in the "Frankish" faction her husband belonged to. Balian was in the "Nativist" faction, which believed that they needed to live in peace with their neighbors. Sallah Al-Din wanted Jerusalem because he wanted Jerusalem. He didn't "release" the people of Jerusalem, he ransomed them. Any who couldn't afford the ransom were sold into slavery.
Wrong, salahuddin never sell them as slave, who teach you that obviously lacking knowledge of Islam. Salahuddin want Jerusalem because it's treaty between second caliph of Muslim named umar bin Al khattab with Christian orthodox that Muslim will protect this city and allowed Christian to live as citizen. Crusaders came and killed Christian orthodox along with Muslim because crusade saw them as blasphemy, go read how crusades ransacked balkan and kill thousands of Christian orthodox when they moved from French to Italy to Greece to syria

@stathissdz2125 The one advantage I see in this movie is that it might lead people to research the real events. 25:48 Sadly throughout time people in power abuse, bully and hurt people because "they are different". Even in your own country unarmed people were beaten and killed like in Wounded Knee or more recently in Selma peaceful protest in 1965. Please understand that such individuals dont care about niceties of individuals that they deem "less then them".
Would like to suggest you guys research the Crusades which will help with understanding the real lives and events of the characters involved in this movie and then if you feel like it watch this again. While it is more fun to go into movies not knowing anything about them there are exceptions this being a major one. After he returned to France Balian joined King Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) on a 3rd Crusade and at the Battle of Jaffa in 1192 Balian defeated Saladin again, he died shortly after. Sybilla did not cheat on Guy that is one of the 452 inaccuracies in this movie.
Great film, but historically flawed. The real Balian de Ibelin's life was pretty fascinating, he was a true born nobility, great warrior, been and fought in the Holy land his entire life, didn't marry Sibylla. And the real King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem was such a fierce and capable leader of the Crusaders, it was only realized when he died, the christian army of Europe faltered and disorganized until King Richard I of England raised another conquest to liberate the elusive kingdom of heaven.
Its sad that this movie is almost complete BS lol The facts were nothing like this. Sybilla really loved Guy and they were close togethet. Balian was a local high lord and not a random bastard from France. He was also married with a very important noble lady. Part of Jerusalem population were enslaved after the fall. Others had to pay ransom to leave. Balian did have fairly good relations with the muslims. He was considered a noble enemy. Guy and Reynald were not cartoon vilains. There were many skirmishes going around between muslims and christians. Saladin was overall building up and wanting to attack. Guy and Reynald were just trying to mess him up as much as possible in order to slow him down. Yes, in the end Guy did a serious blunder leading the army to Hattin. He did not prove to be a good military strategist. But again, he was no cartoon vilain.
@@WakeMeSoon And its terrible that we constantly allow Hollywood mess up with other people´s history. Just imagine if they would do a serious movie messing up important characters in American history. Imagine an historical epic around the US Civil War and Robert Lee is some random english guy coming from England. This is complete BS! If you want to make a fictional story do it! Change names, create a fictional world which is similar to the real one. Or, even better, write historical fiction around real events but keep the real characters as they were.
Saladin didn't want to attack, he did this because a treaty between Muslim and Christian orthodox who live inside Jerusalem. This what happened when you didn't look back along the history what happened 300++ years earlier. Second caliph of Islam named umar ibn Al khattab manage to rule Jerusalem, when he entered Jerusalem, no bloodshed happened. After he entered and pray solah, he with Christian leader make a treaty that Muslim will rule Jerusalem as long as Muslim protect Christian and give their rights and never destroy religious building nor kill people inside Jerusalem. That treaty is still there in Jerusalem. Majority of crusaders are Catholic, they saw orthodox as blasphemous and want holy land for themself. When crusaders entered Jerusalem, they kill 80K people including Christian orthodox. Saladin want to give that treaty rise again in Jerusalem by kicking out those crusaders because they act like barbarian and didn't respect treaty. Even among Christian scholar said crusaders only using Christian name but what they did is pillaging along from Italy to Jerusalem from money, to jewellery to village just like what ISIS did in middle east
Jesus Christ is the way he sacrificed himself for our sins hope you will let Jesus in to your heart and come to him and ask for forgiveness my god bless you ❤️✝️
The First Three Crusades were religeous and hardship adventure in foreign lands..and in hundreds of years, the landscape has not changed…nor has the people..and throughout the world..50 years of age was old..60…ancient..65..dead..mostly because of sanitation, unhealthy eating, disease, and poverty…cities were filthy and disease spread..like the Black Plague which killed 60% of Europe from infected rats hitching rides on ships from Asia going to ports in Europe..
Man both of you guys especially your wife needs some history lesson... But you have a beautiful soul as wife...your wife have high moral standards...hard to find it in this world
Why couldnt they both be single? If you meant getting divorce, christians can not get divorced actually. They were simply following it very well back then. Either way, people used to get married very very young. According to some researches, well, many widows were at their "teens ages" (teen according to today's "standard"). Specially ladies, they were married very young around the age of 10 y.o, even in europe. So, the reality for this movie would be closer by subtracting the ages of the actors by 10-15 years. Perhaps that queen was actually under 20 y.o or even under 15 y.o. In the end of this movie, salahudin said "because im salahudin". But actually, the real quote was "im muslim". I guess hollywood got too much pride for the actual quote.

It's easy to be Islamophobic when you keep little girls as slaves without education in the middle east.
God, this movie was long! I wonder how much Toni yawned, checked her watch and had bathroom breaks 😆
We will have to keep a tally on the yawns. I think I took off my watch. LOL -Toni 🤓

Salahuddin is real legendary military commander and great warrior...also great good Muslim sultan...who actually respected Christians and jews under his rule in Jerusalem...Baldwin also was a like him ..good guy but other Christian king after actually killed innocent jews,Muslims and even their own Christian people..but under Salahuddin everyone lived happily it is actually recorded by Christian historians...that time leaders of Muslims and Christians kept peace ✝️☪️❤ but NOW islamic rulers and Christian rulers ...= SHAMEFUL!!!
The first battle at the castle was them coming to get revenge for the settlers killed by the Templar knights
this is one of my favorite movies of all time!
Very good underrated movie, thanks for the reaction
I respect Saladin more than some
Thats how muslim tread people ❤❤❤❤
This is a favorite of mine, had to buy the director’s cut, so glad you’re doing this although 😢is inevitable……..
You should watch _Room with a View_ if the missus is looking to dress in parallel with a movie.
Have you seen whiplash?
Great film, but historically flawed. The real Balian de Ibelin's life was pretty fascinating, he was a true born nobility, great warrior, been and fought in the Holy land his entire life, didn't marry Sibylla. And the real King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem was such a fierce and capable leader of the Crusaders, it was only realized when he died, the christian army of Europe faltered and disorganized until King Richard I of England raised another conquest to liberate the elusive kingdom of heaven.
This historical story should also be seen from the Muslim point of view so that people know why Muslims give importance to this historical event.
Came to this reaction to watch the constant state of confusion..... didn't disappoint 😆
😂
Incense and herbs were the number one export of these lands..
I love you guys!!! Love your beard too
Thank you! 😊
Its sad that this movie is almost complete BS lol
The facts were nothing like this.
But again, he was no cartoon vilain.
ummm...it is a Hollywood movie, everyone knows this, it's not a history class.
@@WakeMeSoon
And its terrible that we constantly allow Hollywood mess up with other people´s history.
Even among Christian scholar said crusaders only using Christian name but what they did is pillaging along from Italy to Jerusalem from money, to jewellery to village just like what ISIS did in middle east
excellent f'n movie, must have been great to live during that time!
I wouldn't want to find out! 😂

The extended director's cut is a way better movie than the theatrical cut

This is an amazing film, but only the DC.

Hope y'all can get The Patriot back up soon, looking forward to that.
Thank you! The Patriot should be up.
Do you know what the Christians did when they took it from the muslims
Really classic movie. But not such a bad time to be alive if you're a standup philosopher and too old to conscript into the armies.
Braveheart next
It's on the list!
Man. Your cam footage is too big
It's all just from the Christianhistory point of view ....
Not from Islamic.....
On the contrary it's doing muslims a favour...it's potraying Christians as the bad guys...
Have your wife open a history book
@@n8vsarestillhere111 1) the Crusades didn't affect America 2) do you know how complex the events of the Crusades were? We may never know everything that happened between the Knights amd Arab Caliphate.
