  • Meet the new BMW X1!
    It’s the entry-level SUV in BMW’s line-up, and Mat’s about to find out if it’s the must-have choice compared to other premium small SUVs.
    For starters, this may be the smallest BMW SUV around, but it’s seemingly grown in size compared to the previous edition. If anything, it looks more like an X3! There have been a number of other design changes too, from a bigger grille up front and a redesigned front and rear bumper. There are a number of other, smaller touches as well, including flush door handles on either side.
    Step inside and just like any BMW, you’re treated to a high-quality interior. There are good quality, soft-touch materials across the dash and the top of the doors, and the centre console is comfortable and well laid out. There’s lots of storage to be found throughout the cabin, and the infotainment screen & digital dials are pretty smart, too. Overall it’s a pretty good experience in the X1, although there are some annoying bits of plastic to be found on the steering wheel!
    There are a couple of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, with the range-topper currently a 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 218hp. However, there’s more choice coming in the future, including two plug-in hybrids as well as an all-electric edition, the iX1!
    The BMW X1 starts from around £34,000 for the entry-level, but is it worth it? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

      @Soldier4JesusChrist You mean that SUV's in general have a larger cross sectional area than sedans, which is right. Still, you can compare 10 year old diesel engines to ones that are available to folk today, and the 0.5 liter difference in average consumption between a new front wheel drive X1 and a 10 years old 320d seems quite notable (if the measuring technique is ~the same), even if the difference in the body styles of the cars is taken into account.

    That following distance screen navigation is absolutely ridiculous. What is that, one button and 4 screens before you can change your ACC following distance? BMW should be embarrassed for overcomplicating such basic functions in a car

  • @jarsmoreira
    @jarsmoreira Рік тому +9

    That one about the "cruise distance" for the Cruise Control , is very "compatible" of "selling" features in the car, that are already there from stock, as then, you don't have to different set of buttons in the steering wheel...really a bad move from OEM's, as they actually sell the car with all the hardware, but then you have to pay extra to use something that is already in the car...just crazy!!!

    • @user-bs1wx1tb7e
      @user-bs1wx1tb7e Рік тому

      It actually cuts costs. It is less expensive to produce the same vehicle and just disable a few features, than selectively make each vehicle totally custom made. Besides, you are not paying for the hardware, you are paying for the R&D behind it.

    I love my 2019 fully optioned executive package with the adaptive sport dampers; I added aftermarket 19" wheels with performance tires and had mine programmed by a someone that offered the service. ODB connector, cable, laptop and software to add options found on the higher end models. Then for another $500 he added the canned engine software that added a lot of HP and TQ without the expense of worse gas mileage. I also added a BMS intake and lots of cool interior options to personalize mine including a box that fills the area underneath the center armrest so that you can put more stuff there and it won't show or fall out....and even has a hole for the USB ports...and looks OEM! I love the LED adaptive headlights. The X1 is a better value than a VW Golf R and is a lot more practical and more upscale for about the same price. It's the first vehicle that I purchased that has never been back to the dealership for ANY warranty issues. On the highway I usually drive at about 120 Km/hr and get close to 36 MPG....Let's see an X3 do that...probably around 24MPG. I love my heads up display and the self parking feature actually works.... This is one amazing vehicle and In 3 years I'll get the new one...and mine will be easy to sell because of the transferable extended warranty and maintenance plan.....and the lower loyalty interest rate....you can't find a better small SUV on the market. Not KIA, Hyundai, Mazda, Ford, GM, VW and many others....and if you like visiting the garage then get a Jag or a Land Rover. I love driving mine in any kind of weather....because it's predictable, easy and fun to drive....and the next one will be even better.

That adaptive cruise functionality through the touchscreen is ludicrous and dangerous but otherwise if you don't have kids who are freakish size basketball players, or need to hoof a massive load of stuff about too often, do you really need much more than this?
