Guys great chemistry & explanation. Liked the dark and solid color court and space so that player n ball positions could be seen clearly. Perhaps one of the best coaching UA-cam out there. More please!
Great video! I was waiting for you to state the obvious-- the serve and volley. I'm wondering... on a serve and volley (2 shot point), is it best to serve a kick serve, flat, slice? Out wide, body or up the tee?
Travel 4 fun the serve and volley is a great addition to the instruction and content that we go in depth on in a video that’s later in the queue. The kick serve tends to be the most advantageous for the serve and volley. It allows you more time to get in and set up for the incoming volley. The slice and flat have their place but tend to be used as a surprise element. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
so many of my serves to my opponent were returned hard and with a short angle that I just didn't get to. It was frustrating and I kept trying to change up my serve to stop her from doing that....based on this video...Im thinking I needed to stop trying to serve to her weaker backhand and just go out wide to the deuce side. Ive never had this problem before I think she was also just a great player. Thanks!!
Hi Christine, sounds like she was definitely a tough opponent. Just remember angles create angles. Next time direct serves more towards the body or the T. You got this! 💪
Hey Guys...Great stuff...Yes, 'm interested in more free points. :) When starting a tournament match should the initial strategy mindset be serve + 1 or rule of 3? Thanks
Totally depends how you’re feeling. If tour serve feels good and the game is firing on all cylinders Juno right into serve +1. If tour tight I’d follow the rule of 3. If tour super tight, I’d let your opponent serve first in order to work out jitters. Thanks for the question RK!
We have a several videos out on how to improve your return. Specifically one on the backhand ua-cam.com/video/EZH8D8NC6Tk/v-deo.html We have a tatics video on returns coming out soon! Thanks for watching!
Question: As a server, do you adjust your court position along the baseline depending whether you're serving wide or down the T (move away from center for better angle on serve out wide)?
You certainly can and it does help provide better angles to the target but when we do this we also often give up the “tell” and our opponent knows were we are going and therefore can adequately defend.
I am 3.5 level and first serve is pretty good; has power and returners do not do much with it. Get 70% of first serves in. But I don't really know where the serve is going. The only way I can place it body, wide and T is if I slow it way way down. Like 30% of normal speed. Is it a good idea to practice this really slow serve until I get control of placement?
Nice clip but I noticed Nate not making any attempt to try and return the + 1 shot. Generally, playing at a 3.5 level and above, more opponents will be trying to get the ball back and hope for a winner or even hitting a lob. right?
Totally faier assestment. Unfortunately Nate's knee was recovering from an injury so we had to make do with the limited movement. The Serve = one patterns still hold up the point may simply be extended and a put away overhead / volley may be needed to conclude the point.
Hamish Mounsey it’s not likely and would be very low percentage. Understanding positioning & zones on the singles court is really important. Colin Byer it’s definitely a go-to strategy on the deuce court. If your playin hv a lefty it’s a great strategy on both sides as you get to pick on the backhand. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

What do you feel the Babolat pure strike excells at? Which shots, how big is your swing size using it, defensive or aggressive, more power oriented or control oriented (down the line or deep). And which strings do you feel like compliment the racket well? (i.e. I use Multi in mains and poly in crosses)
I’m a big fan of the Pure Strike. To me it’s has the closest resemblance to the 6.1 pro staff of old. The racquet is definitely control oriented but due to the weight has plenty of pop and plow threw the groundies. I have a fairly big swing and don’t necessarily need assistance with power so this racquet is ideal. My string preference is 16g RPM between 50-55lbs. Thanks for the question Arjuna!
Statement that returner is out position is false, by definition being in position means that player is in the middle of two extreme angles (vectors) opponent can hit in to. And that's exactly what returner does.
Scott uses a abbreviated motion much like the shot-put technique. Was his knee bend / coil more dynamic in college, sure...does he still hit the hell out of his serve..yup. It’s actually his low toss that makes his serve super difficult because it’s hard to read. As we get older (and out of shape 🍻🍪lol) the serve naturally changes. Thanks for the feedback guys. -Nate
You need to have good serve fundamentals to do the 1-2 killer punch to end the rallies quickly before they start, Rec Club players, many of them I seen on you tube videos are serving up rubbish for Serves. They're clearing the net but the problem is the ball is going down into the middle of the box too much into their player's strike zones areas so they are not even serving good because they are serving straight into the wall.. And when you serve straight into the wall, the ball bounces back again into play. Then these players wonder why with the bad serves they getting all trapped up in long endless rallies fighting for nearly every single point with their groundstrokes while their opponents because of their bad serving is behaving like a human volleyboard.. Bad serving puts the pressure on the groundstrokes.
The only way to create lots of traffic to to present different ideas, so i get that. But to assume the returner is going to return, then just make no attempt to play next shot is a little ingenious. Making 3.5 players watch the video, try it, see it doesnt work this easily only hurts your channel long term. Its just not this simple.
That’s a fair assessment but a 3.5 isn’t hitting the serve and aggressive third ball that Scott is hitting either. That ball is moving a lot faster than it appears on camera. It’s not super easy moving about the court mic’d up but even at full sprint there wasn’t much I was doing with those balls regardless. There were plenty of better points but they were edited out, the goal was simply to show the best “free” points. Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate the constructive criticism. -Nate
PlayYourCourt.com thanks for not taking it as a knock on your video. That was not my point. I’ve recorded my serve and play many times, and you are correct, the video lies! Ha. I’m hitting it 140 but the dang radar and video looks like about 90 max. Ha. I wasn’t thinking about the mikes either. My apologies, I reread my comment and it is negative. Maybe I’m just frustrated that I can’t play anymore and was having a moment of sour grapes.
Raider ROBB serve and volleying is definitely a great option and something that should be utilized to keep the opponent guessing. This instruction was centered around attacking off the ground on the third ball however. Thanks for watching and the feedback.
He’s that bad...kidding, there’s certainly some acting going on while in demo mode. Doesn’t make the strategy any less effective just easier to convey the message. Not much anybody is doing with the third ball, being that far out of position anyway. That’s the magic of serve plus one. Nate being mic’d up certainly isn’t helping movement either.
The slice would certainly be an option my man but it would not be a cure all. There would be an adjustment from the server and assuming the server is hitting their spots all the slice in the world won’t help that. Now mixing up the spins...that could certainly be a tactic. Thanks for the feedback Ben 🙌🏼🤙🏼
@@Playyourcourt Totally agree. When Nate was returning is was always topspin and when that happens it becomes predictable and more beatable. Mixing it up would help
Yup, you got it Ben. For the sake of the demo however the goal was to illustrate the effectiveness of spot serving and executing the third ball, our goal wasn’t to focus on how to defuse serve plus one hence the lack of variety on the return. Could I have returned better sure, could Scott serve bigger yup. Simply playing in demo mode my man. Love that your problem solving though. Love the feedback. 🤙🏼

How many takes for each example?
A lot, because they apparently edited out all the points I won, smh 🤷🏽♂️😉 -Nate

Scott, how did you develop your serve? It looks like you are not really using your body on your serve. It's definitely unconventional.
