To me, boundaries are informed by my relationship with God and my core values. As a Christian, God has boundaries and I’m not willing to step outside those boundaries for anyone/anything.

From a different perspective I don't see boundaries as walls but rather I see them as gates. Walls are fixed and immovable whereas gates are still a measure of protection but have controlled access. With responsible access controls you're able to assess each situation and/or relationship and determine how to still ensure you're protected without making the next person feel unwelcome
The more I consume Thato's content, the more I relate with him. But with Lebo's analogy of his mom calling and him not answering in mind, I get to question what's the difference between boundaries and principles?🤔

I feel like it’s not necessarily principles but rather can be deemed as a useless boundary or an unfair boundary depending on how you choose to look at it. His reasoning is understandable, don’t be upset if he doesn’t answer his phone and reasons for that were provided. That shouldn’t upset you or make you uncomfortable. As a person you’re not always available to pick up your phone and now imagine someone getting upset at the fact that you didn’t answer their call. That’s them even dismissing your reasons. Also we’re just a generation that genuinely doesn’t like phone calls, prefers texting over calls and more than anything prefers their own space. There are days where you don’t feel like talking and 9/10 when your mom calls, you already know why they’re calling and it could basically just to have a chat or check up on you. Once your pms ice has melted (that’s if you weren’t in the mood) or you’re done with what you were busy with, you’ll get back to them.
People spoke and asked that you go back to appearing on the same screen at the same time like before, after the previous episode, and you heard them and did as they had asked. We see you, thank you for listening to your viewers and putting them first❤🏆🏆

So I'm a millennial in my early 30s right and can i tell you , your podcast is refreshing and fascinating to me. I thoroughly enjoy your guys perspective on things and life in general , I sometimes might not relate cause you broers are from the burbs and I from a kasi but over the years my social circle has incorporated both worlds. The episode prior to this one caught my attention and i wanted more, did i not spend the whole of last week and this week binge watching from Season 1 with the other 2 broers, watched all of it! Thato, on the topic of boundaries and relationships, my suggestion is getting a guest who's very well educated on this topic so that we can understand it from every perspective and relate it us because we try to relate from our own understanding and experiences and they can be very misleading as to what the truth may really be.

I don't waste my time on proving the truth no more. If a person wants to know or is willing to believe they'd live that space. It's not your job to build their maturity of understanding other people or respecting the other persons truth.
I think boundaries derived from trauma aren’t problematic because sifunda ngokubona.
Seems like Thato himself the views he has of boundaries come from trauma of past relationships. (Trauma might be a bit of a strong word but y’all get it😂)

31:31 - We get so defensive about dating - always on guard against evil, always fighting against temptation. But what if the boundaries we keep were really meant to help us fight for something? What if, instead of fence-building, they were acts of war in love?
The relationship boundary of not meeting your partner’s friends i get it but Lebo is right when he says your not the only two people in the world…they are things your partner might go through in life that will require you to break such a boundary I’d like to believe most of us would like all our loved ones to be around to celebrate the different milestone in our life’s
Boundaries are their to protect yourself but as time goes defending on the boundary it can be broken
Let’s take a house for example, you visit a house your the guest as a guest you would usually be welcomed into the sitting/dining room and maybe a guest bath/toilet but the other rooms to the house are not accessible to you but you know they are there you know that they is a kitchen, bedroom etc…but they are not rooms you are welcomed in to as a guest.
Okay but what about boundaries that are formed because of religious conviction , when one grows in their faith they may Get convicted of alote of stuff that seem normal in relationships (note not everyone gets the same convictions at the same time/had the same conviction ) would you think of those boundaries as unreasonable if they interfere with physical intimacy ?
Hey, I was struggling with the same thing. From outside looking in, it was never unessesary because you need to be equally yoked in a relationship. What that means is working in alignment together towards one goal. Maybe you need to reasses if you guys are working towards the same future within your relationship.
I'm Christian, and for me I'm learning so many different things about intimacy and being convicted about certain things regarding it. God tells us to abstain from sex before marriage, and sex can mean different things to different people right. But sex is sex at the end of the day and anything that tempts you into the feeling of lust or a sexual desire, is probably something you should consider setting as a boundary, as it is compromising your progress in your spiritual journey. This is so much easier when you are equally yoked with your partner though.

I have learnt not to pay attention to such comments, as God has a standard of life that He has already set for us, all we have to do is follow it. There's no such thing as being too Christian, all one can do is be patient and pray for those who have not realised it yet.

on setting boundaries on helping people come on a platform , it may seem or come across as gatekeeping oppurtunities you are able to provide simply becuase ofnot wanting them toleave you or the channel when they are big and are able to stand on their own as a brand, i think you would have more impact on helping and bring them onto the show or indulging in whatever they proposed to you, be selfless with what you have achieved and the tools you have and are able to utilise for another creator becuase the end goal is gonna be growing the youtube space in the country , and being part of their journey or story of upbringing will encourage them to do the same for other creators....thats just how i see it

I think boundaries derived from trauma aren't about do's and don'ts. It's about shielding yourself from enabling certain things over and over. And also, we have to differentiate between projecting and setting a boundaries. There's a thin line. Boundaries are meant to make things better in a sense that they enable you to be your true self without people pleasing. They deepen relationships.

In fact, the relief of finally being honest, even if what we are being honest about is wrong, can feel emancipating. We’ve all experienced or witnessed this. When someone who has been secretly struggling with homosexuality finally comes out and embraces it, it often feels wonderful and freeing. Or when someone who has professed faith in Christ secretly stops believing the reality of Christianity, it can be a great relief to finally admit it and stop pretending. Or when a spouse has secretly been committing adultery, it can feel liberating to bring it out into the open, even if they are not repentant. What each of these people experiences is a sense of being true to themselves, even if what they actually believe isn’t true and right.
