ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was born to be a woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry, I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom woodwork and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! Hi Brian, I love your channel, very informative, from each one of your videos I learn something new, thank you so much and keep up the good work.
I'm liking these old how-to's!!!
Your work is so clean!! Great job...
Love your videos! I learn something new from every one of them. Thanks man.
Really appreciate you sharing your technique. I learned alot. Thanks.
You do fantastic work!!!
Thanks for the valuable information. Funny ending! Multitalented.
Hey...excellent video. You have a real talent! Thank you.
Love your videos, loved the creative ending! Lol
Great install! 👏👏
Awsome work man!!!!
I really like your work~
Great demo! Thank you man....
Awesome tutorial
Thanks; enjoy your vids!
Thank you for the tips.
That looks like a nice old table saw. Show us that sometime.
Awesome Video
Thanks. Helped me lots
Okay, so you had the best video for this! Thank you! I am covering an entire box (full bed size )in speaker carpet but am still trying to decide how to access the contents and it’s like falling down the old rabbit hole. I want simple but clever. Is that asking too much? I am thinking two access spots on top and a door in the rear. Anyway thanks for the sage advice!
Nice job
Looks good. I'm thinking this may be a good covering for foam board cabinets that never get a very nice finish.
great video thanks
thanks for everything.!!!!
I would like to see how you store your wood stock in the shop. Thanks for your time.
Go to my instagram.com/solidwoodworx just uploaded a video of my shop!
Thanks for making the vid great tips
+Lee lim glad I can help!
You do such great work I'm so thankful that you post these videos. I wanted to recommend using a spray gun and weldwood contact adhesive it will save you money and does as good or better of a job than the 3m 90.
Thanks for the information, don't quite do enough carpet to get a spray gun setup but they are sweeeet
Thank you!
Verticle and horizontal surfaces are fine; but can you do a video on how you would cover a Van's wheel well cover? I think that for some of us who are looking to cover this item, we'd appreciate the information on how to cover a wheel well.
I should be doing that on an upcoming project I can make a video of, check back in a month!
staples should be continuous along each folded edge.. 3/8" crown staples around 1/4" - 1/2" inch apart.. the thinner the vinyl or carpet the closer the staples..
Clean n simple
i know where the electronics store is on the westminster ave by the 405 fwy in huntington beach,ca
The material you're using is known as trunk lining. It's also commonly used on PA speakers.
Sure is mate
awesome
This is super helpful for a build I'm working on, thanks for sharing! Question for ya: Do you treat the wood with any sort of stain/sealant before carpeting? I just want to ensure if I have any spills in my car I won't ruin the wood under my carpeting. Thanks!
I have not
Buy a duofast carpet stapler gun, they're electric. The staples disappear into the carpet so you can't see them unless you're really looking for them.
+M R I'll look into it
something I dont see mentioned is do you adjust your cutting measurements to compensate for the extra thickness of the fabrics???
That’s a good point and yes i do
Is that a piano hinge for the door? Will that work on the side of the door to swing out or just the bottom like you did? Any idea what hinge I can use to get the biggest swing like a 180? Thanks man, been studying your work fro my build, getting there
That would be a Blum style hinge
Thanks for the video. How do you mount the drawer front then after it’s carpeted? Do you just screw into through the carpet?
This was hinged with a locking latch, but you can pocket hole the side jams and screw in the the front that way!
@@SolidWoodWorx okay sweet, the pocket holes are a good idea. Thanks!
Random question. Have you ever done a Murphy bed install in a van?
+Datzneat I have not, that would be fun to build though!
If you wanted to mount D rings to a wood box, would you just screw it down on top of the carpeting after carpet is installed?
If mounting D-Rings, I would recommend mounting with the sex bolts I sell on my website or some sort of bolts and nut. This way if mount the D rings through the wood less likely for the screw to pull out if it has lot of stress on it
@@SolidWoodWorx Thanks for the response. That's a good idea, will probably go that route. Thanks!
sweet
Could you show the backing board that you said you were adding to cover the edges? Thanks
+Stuart Horner it's all the same piece of carpet.
Solid Wood Worx at 8:22 you mentioned adding a top?
Yes for a different project but that doesn't really pertain to how you would glue the carpeting?
Solid Wood Worx fair point, really impressed with the way it turned out, excited to see the full van. I'm just not sure how I might finish the inside of a drawer I'm building
This is the link to the finished van, my friend I built it for brought it back for a 2nd go around for some more options he wanted added! ua-cam.com/video/LqKyvAv_6II/v-deo.html
The link to the carpet is for charcoal. Is the carpet that you are using charcoal or black?
charcoal
and *wear a respirator!* spray adhesive is some of the most nasty stuff you can breathe.
also, you spray about 4 times the amount necessary, IMO.
Chris Cooling Ya need to spray more on irregular and highly absorbent surfaces like carpet.
I got a 95 Vandura conversion and the glued on rug under the pedals came loose, dry yellow stuff underneath, any Van owners know how toxic it is?
Never heard of it being toxic especially after dried for that long
Solid Wood Worx Thanks!
Can you do this on a metal surface?
Yes
How is that material for collecting dust? Also is it easy to clean?
+Future Unknown I used this carpeting in my truck I drove to Panama last summer and it worked great! Yes it is easy to vacuum and clean.
Solid Wood Worx damn dude thanks for the quick reply! I'm digging your builds, very inspiring towards the van I'm working on now. I like the simplicity/functionality of the ones you've done and they have a nice clean finish.
It collects dust. You can vacuum and wipe with damp cloth. Too much cleaning loosens the adhesive.
Anyone have any idea where to get this material in Australia?
Clark Rubber!
auto upholstery supply. Ask for trunk lining.
In which Huntington do u live at Ca or Long Island?
+LongIslandADED. Huntington Beach, california
@@SolidWoodWorx Me too! Which electric shop?
The carpet is nice but won’t it trap dust and shit?
can vaccum it
Great instructional video but not something I would use in a van or other RV where there are pets.
how much did that project cost?
FreeWorldChannel the carpet is $15 a yard or so at my local store.
What series is the carpet?
Not sure what that means
Solid Wood Worx hi. So I looked at the link with the carpet and the carpet comes in three different series. So I was wondering which one did u use
Interesting I dont see that on the Amazon link i provided
Are you doing other people's vans yet? I emailed you and never got a reply.
Yes I am, i have gone through my emails and thought i had emailed everyone back. send another if you haven't received my reply!
T4 Teppich austauschen
f you ever come across a software design company 'Vanspace 3D", they are a scam company. Do NOT spend your money. They are really bad.
I looke dinto it recently went with sketchup instead
did you title the video yourself? .....seems sus lol
i did sounds like you love it
@@SolidWoodWorx sounds like a sore booty hole in the making
Thank you!
