This is a fantastic lens - I have two copies. My favorite of all my vintage lens collection. Super sharp, too! I didn't remove the discoloration, as I love the warm tones. BTW - you can use a UV light to get rid of the orange cast.
It’s a good job they made so many of these lenses through the production life as it’s a rightly super popular lens that we can all still enjoy without breaking the bank, and it’s always interesting to see how other photographers work, great episode.
I was wondering what you meant by radioactive. By the end I realized you mean it literally! There's no danger to you? Your photography is beautiful! Very inspiring!
Some older lenses have thorium oxide as part of the glass formula. It does emit radiation but not really too much to worry about. I do like living on the wild side though : )
Just stay away from it when not in use and by any means don't shatter that glass, because if you do you are in major trouble. Especially if you have kids and/or animals. And keep in mind that over time it may increase in gamma spectrum. Most time it is safe if you know all about it and are very careful. Still AFAIK radioactive optics can get you in trouble, for example, in Russia. So that is still an object containing more risk than it looks like.

Just one question, why are you hiding the Fujifilm logo on your X-Pro 2. The great focus peaking on Fujifilm X cameras is one of the things that make using vintage M42 lenses so much fun.
HOLY CRAP! Seeing Noe in one of your videos is so bad ass haha. Y’all are two channels that I’ve been super inspired by so it’s best seeing you two working together.
found one of these in a shop about 5 years ago for almost free. Didnt realise at the time what it was... but it is in prestine condition and my second best lens I have and love it!
Hi there, this lens seems to be quite radioactive, doesn't it affect to the sensor of the camera? Or does it affect only if you use it regularly? Thanks
I like the pictures!I bought the Oly 5mkii for its video capabilities that are way better than my old Nikon D750!I hope they announce the 5mkiii this month, since its their 100th anniversary!building a Ryzer Threadripper for 4K video editing soon!almost bought the 1mkii but its cinema 4K video pushes out 237 mb per second, compared to 77mb 1080 video on my Oly 5mkii! I am also looking at vintage lenses since they were all about the bokeh!
Épico! Me encantó muchísimo este video, creo que en un futuro a corto plazo me dedicaré a este estilo de fotografía. El mejor canal de lentes y fotografía.
Mark Holtze has done a really good video on this. He has a video on the 7 element version, and another one with a direct comparison between the 7 and 8 element version. Check out his UA-cam channel.
Great video, love the photography!!! BUT I have never seen this lens for 50 Dollars - and I have been looking out for it for years, internationally, on eBay.
My all-time favorite lens. Also starting to shoot at least from 2.8. sometimes even from 2.0 as 1.4 is really not that sharp. Trying to get that yellow tint now with a UV lamp.
What I would like to know is what the difference is between this and a canon 50mm f1.4 I've never shot with a vintage lens before, but I own the previously mentioned one.
This is one of those lenses you sell for some reason because you think you need a shiny new lens then a few months later find yourself searching ebay for again
Takes me back to the 70s when I had one of these lenses on a Spotmatic SP II - lovely lens. The night time neon shots were good but I'm not a big fan of colour grading where the blacks are anything other than true black.
Jesus Samaniego I have this lens too! It’s the kit lens for a late 60s Pentax Spotmatic. I don’t shoot much film anymore but I love using this lens with focus peaking on my Sony a6000
A radioactive lens? That´s really cyberpunk!
I got this lens in an antiques store for £4, with the price sticker on the rear element! It's got such character, I love it.
I know, what's up with people putting the sticky price tag right on the glass!!!
Low price goes with that I guess.
love the 50/1.4 super tak, its one purchase i've never regretted

Hands down my favorite lens I’ve used

check my old video about radioactive lenses :)

I love Super Takumar primes! I got a 55mm f/1.8 at a thrift store for only $10. I recently got a 35mm f/3.5 to match for wider shots.
I have one of these Super Tak 1.4, great lens. Any particular reason why you're hiding the Fuji X-Pro2 use as it's not listed in the gear section?
Great vid! Love these old Taks myself.
Just one question, why are you hiding the Fujifilm logo on your X-Pro 2. The great focus peaking on Fujifilm X cameras is one of the things that make using vintage M42 lenses so much fun.
I like the part when he shows you the lens with the adapter but his finger is over the Mount size. It says M 42 on finger.
I saw that too@@74360CUDA . Maybe he wants to pretend he is shooting with a Leica.
I was looking at an Xpro1, but someone owning one told me not to get it because of bad focus peaking.
I bought this lens on ebay a few years ago and if you are lucky enough to put into focus the subject, the resulting picture is a piece of art!
Neon Noire! I love that!
Quite masterful editing : )
the guy on the footage was pretty helping to make a clean edit :)
@@MathieuStern I like the series though, it is a really great concept! Can't wait to see who is next.
Incredible work, thanx for sharing your art. By the way, u make my decision to buy Super Takumar even stronger!
Have fun!
Is there any big difference between this lens and super multi coated takumar 55mm f1.8? I think about using it with Canon D700 DSLR
HOLY CRAP! Seeing Noe in one of your videos is so bad ass haha. Y’all are two channels that I’ve been super inspired by so it’s best seeing you two working together.
Great expose thnx! A silly question, and maybe i missed it? - was this video shot with the takumar 50mm f/1.4 lens?
Really good info and cool images in this video!
Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR 50mm F1.4 version. Which I can’t wait to try out on my Pocket 4K I just bought.
found one of these in a shop about 5 years ago for almost free. Didnt realise at the time what it was... but it is in prestine condition and my second best lens I have and love it!
Just wondering, what's your best lens?
Hi there, this lens seems to be quite radioactive, doesn't it affect to the sensor of the camera? Or does it affect only if you use it regularly? Thanks
Love this lens and the art style!! i use a Miranda 50mm f1.4 (1970) i wish my city had more neon ligths jajaja

I have this and the smc takumar 28mm lens. So fun to use. I appreciate the night shoot tips you dropped, can’t wait to try my hand at it👌🏾
I love the super takumar series.
1:21 is amazing!
Macau :) Thank you!
But it’s safe for you and for people around you to shoot with a radioactive lens? I’m curious, i want to buy one but i’m a little afraid 😅
I have this lens in perfect condition. Got it for 60€. It is really awesome, love it. 👍🏻
Épico! Me encantó muchísimo este video, creo que en un futuro a corto plazo me dedicaré a este estilo de fotografía. El mejor canal de lentes y fotografía.
yo pienso igualmente: )
I had this lens, it’s superb for portraiture!
This couldn't be better timed. This lens is on my radar for using on the Fuji X-Pro1 with a Pixco focal reducer. Great video and images.
Are you gonna like all the comments? And I really like old lens it's just getting good adapters
its good choice to buy pancake lens for street photography ?
great shots i have a Takumar 50 2.0 its a awesome lens
I want to see a test of the 8 element non radioactive version :)

I was just watching this guys channel earlier! Awesome that you two crossed sights
Love your work
Mathieu you did it again. Great video, very informative.
I have the 8-element version I shoot with a Sony a6000 aps-c with a focal reducer. The DOF Is INSANE and has such an awesome quality to it.
I really want the 8 element version lol
@@Noealz It was so much more expensive than the 7 element smc. It was $200 for a pristine version.
Great video, love the photography!!! BUT I have never seen this lens for 50 Dollars - and I have been looking out for it for years, internationally, on eBay.

Looks unreal
absolutely beautiful stuff mate
Super objectif ! Les prix se sont envolés ces dernières années... J'attends la bonne occaz
Is he shooting on film or digital ?
Absolutely amazing!
Always nice to see Noe. And great advices 👍

That made me miss Seoul, a littl;e bit.
Great video.. Thanks
Love the tips! 👍
And about using this lens on this Fuji - try it with Mitakon Lens Turbo II ;)
Awesome Video! 🤩👍
You should review the 28mm version
Right up mu alley
Great photography
Thanks for sharing
Прекрасное видео!
Wait he didn't actually talk about how the two things are related, why is it a good lens for shooting neon lights?
The video doesn't actually claim anything of the sort, read the title.
Where i can buy this lens?
I got this lens, but at 1.4 my photos dont stay as sharp, it stays a little blury on the edges... (horrible english, i know) - my camera fujifilm x-e1
Вот бы еще дневные фотографии посмотреть
Wonderful lens!
Hello from Russia!
This is one of those lenses you sell for some reason because you think you need a shiny new lens then a few months later find yourself searching ebay for again

Which area is this in Seoul, I'm about to go there and do some photos too.

Just a generic one :) Costs like 8 bucks online!
Where do you find all your interesting lenses? Garage sales, ebay?
Have u tried the tamron 28mm 2.5 bbar mc
Did you say you were in Jongno-gu? Can you be a bit more specific? It's quite large :D
I've got this lens but I don't use it much because it's too yellow. I just have to leave it in the sun for a few days!!!!???
How to know if I have the 7 or 8 element ?? (Buy it for 80€, in an argentic shop in France)
serial number up to 15xxxxx number if i remember
I've measured my Asahi SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8 at 3.8 micro Sieverts/hour :-D

Which adapter i should use for this lens??
I have the Sony A7 mkI.
Could someone please spell here the exact name of that place? :)
