- I've designed and built a 3D-printed 35mm film camera that can shoot movies, photos, and time-lapses and also serves as a developed film scanner.
Its custom (Super8) frame size enables longer shooting time, making it a cheap and easy way to shoot and scan 35mm film movies at about 51€ per 10min at 18fps.
Fully automatic film wind/rewind system whit auto lense track positioning, a built-in light meter, support for C-mount lenses, an OLED display interface, and a rechargeable battery.
Both sample footages were completely shot on just two 35mm 36-exp film rolls (Fomapan 100 and Kodak Gold 200) at 18 fps.

Hi everyone :) Thank you all so much for your feedback and subs. I've released an update video regarding the project continuation, if you haven't already, please check it out.
This is the most amazing DIY project I’ve come across within the analog community. I really hope you continue with development, it looks promising!
Thank you.
Probably the coolest piece of camera gear I've seen in a long time. If you decide to sell these, know you've got at least one customer right here. Definitely interested to see where this goes.
Thanks for your feedback.
@@BlazSemprimoznik Please sell
This give soooooo much power to the independent filmmaker and analogue enthusiast. Being able to develop motion pictures on standard patterson tanks at home truly makes me believe in a future were indie films can be shot on film without having to sell your soul for it. Please keep going and please make this a reality.
As a film photographer myself I can partially agree with you, at a frame rate of 18fps the max video length is 2 seconds and with Kodak gold costing 20 dollars with 15 dollar development making this extremely expensive, and developing film from normal film cameras isn’t hard, it’s the exact same format, same price just longer , and yes super 8 is much cheap that this MUCH cheapet
@@constastar1660 At 18fps the shooting time is 1min and 6sec, the camera uses much smaller frames, please check out my website blazsemprimoznik.com/okto35/ for more info.
@@BlazSemprimoznik oh, I didn’t notice it used vertical, I am terribly sorry, but let me ask you this question, how much smaller are the frames?
@@constastar1660 No problem, the frame size is a little bigger than Super8, in total there are 1200 frames per one 36 exposure roll.
@@BlazSemprimoznik understandable, is there a way to purchase this camera in Russia?
Would be really cool if this turned into an open hardware project where people could collaborate and make improvements
This is a vast improvement over the LomoKino. I hope it catches on.
This is absolutely incredible! Whether you move forward with new designs and or if you get to the stage of releasing a small scale production I am totally interested. The product page on your website makes me even more excited!
This is the most impressive feat of engineering I have seen as of late. I would absolutely buy one of these.
Didnt realise how early i was in watching this, very cool project! I was thinking of making a half frame 35mm video camera but with 72 exposures thats not a lot of movie. Cool idea and execution!
To say you're a genius is an understatement... This is amazing.
An absolutely amazing project! At first I thought it shot full frame, and that it would be astronomically expensive.
The small frame sizing is very clever!
Would absolutely love for this to be a semi open source project, if it isn't already.
I really hope a manufacturer takes an interest in this and pays you for the idea and development you have put into it. Then we could see this type of camera in more hands. Fantastic work. Well done. 👏
Intriguing concept, it will be interesting to see how it develops
This is amazing. There’s so many 35mm film stocks still being made as well. Imagine being able to shoot with something flexible like rolls of Portra 400 and bulk Color grading the frames with how flexible Portra is.
Also I’m imagining this will allow some folks to be able to shoot a short film with ektachrome by buying a huge bulk roll. Please make this camera happen. I’ll back it for sure!
honestly amazing. built-in scanner blew my mind. make another one!
Crazy cool, can't wait to read more about the work
This Project Is Insane
What an amazing piece of work, most impressive, please continue!!!
This is brilliant, well done. I think you'll have more interest in this than you anticipated!
Man, I love this approach. Very radical and funny. Please show some more !
Amazing concept, looking forward to see more of it!
Wow! Just amazing!
Big company like Kodak and Fuji should be hiring you as a Product CEO or smth. This is a really revolutionary move for film community. Not only we're adapting with the digital era with its social media and stuff, but this also gives a brighter signs to film community in the future and 35mm industry. I'm so excited and so do everyone else for sure!
Amazing work! The footage came out a lot clearer than I was expecting
Very cool stuff, best DIY one I have seen yet!
This is really cool and super amazing. I hope you have the interest and drive you need to keep developing!
Glad to see another project within 3d printed motion picture camera community! The 1-perf looks greater than I thought:) Looking forward to your update while I work on my next iteration soon;)
I love this. Congratulations on making this magic happen.
BRAVO, Continued with your project in bringing back Analog 35mm Movie Project.
This is super impressive, great work!!!, I’m keen to see how you refine and improve it over time and also keen on giving the build a go.
Please do not stop! This is truly amazing
This is absolutely amazing!
Keep it coming! More than interested in the project. Cant wait to see what the future holds
incredible project man
Looking absolutely amazing. I'm glad we are at a point where one person can come up with a new camera like this and bring it all the way to manufacture. Great work.
Amazing! Keep it coming up! Your website is also very informative and fun!
Jaw dropping. It looks so damn cool! Please continue with your project!
This is really incredible. Extremely innovative, can't wait to see more!
Thank you for your feedback.
This is brilliant, great work!
This is INCREDIBLE! It solves so many problems and the footage looks awesome!
Brilliant! I would buy one in a heartbeat. A very clever way to circumvent all the annoyances of 8mm (cartridge cost, developing, mailing back and forth, scanning, etc) and add the convenience of 35mm. More choices of film stock and easy to home develop. Love it!
Hello, this project is fire ! It will allows new people getting interested in film just because it's cheaper and easier in many ways ! You are improving the future for many artist, thanks a lot ! I'm waiting for what you will make us discover next. Love from Switzerland
There is something special about movie film that just isn't there with digital video. Thank you for doing this project.
this is an absolute game changer. I REALLY hope you come forward with production because i will jump over the moon for one! Amazing work man.
Please continue development of this project!
I would also be interested in the small production run, if demand justifies it.
More please! I would love to see this progress further.
this is incredible!! I love seeing innovation in analog
This is the best analog project I've seen in years. Please continue R&D on this camera it really is an exciting invention!
It sounds amazing can't wait for an updated.
That`s craziest awesome DIY!!!!
You are remaking old filming!
Genius!
This deserves to blow up! An amazing idea with stellar execution! Best of luck with (hopefully) further development/production, I’ll be sure to follow!
This it’s the coolest ideas so far. Hopefully you will release this to market or at least for some tester. Footage are really suitable for movies makers that’s wanting to be start using analog to their project.
Amazing work. I was always interested in the lomokino, this is like a super version!
This is genuinely incredible, and (to mirror what a lot of other people have said) one of the coolest things to come from the community in a long time!
This is so amazing I’m blown away
Very cool. As someone who's been getting into analog filmmaking this is exactly what I've been wanting. I hope this project goes far and I'll be rooting for you!
Moreeeee please. You’re a genius! I’d love to buy one in the future.
this is SO cool, i'd love to bring it further
I'd buy one for sure. Keep up the amazing work!
Excellent project !!
Wow! Odlično! Radim na 3d printanom fotoaparatu već neko vrijeme i drago mi je da vidim da ima još ljudi koji rade na tome. Pozdrav iz susjednog Zagreba :)
this is by far the best attempt at a diy motion picture camera i've seen! i'm amazed that no one has thought to divide a single roll of 35mm into different "channels" like you have in order to increase the mileage of the footage.
Look up Joshua Bird's camera
Man this is a perfect solution to a problem that so many have. Incredible! I would buy one in a heart beat.
An incredible piece of design and engineering! Definitely something I'm interested in!
beyond impressive
This is beautiful !!!!
This is absolutely amazing mate!
Great work, amazing. Carry on.
a truly awesome achievement
That's Nice Mate.. great Project. Yes I would Like one
It’s amazing that something like this hasn’t been made up to this point.
If you started selling this, I would definitely buy!
Very amazing. Please keep working on it and keep us informed.😊❤
I'm so in love with this little camera, and I very much want one of my own.
Superb work. The colour film video looks and feels exactly like a 1970s home movie!
That is bloody excellent, mate! Years ago I came up with an idea to convert a 35mm slr into a movie camera but I never went ahead with it as I was in a low paid job.
you're pushing forward technological advancement from scratch. I love this. Please keep going with it!
Very interesting. Great work
This is fantastic. You have my support.
Amazing project! Keep working on it!
Sign me up! This is a truly amazing project, and a must-buy for me if it ever comes under small-scale production. Keep up the great work!
Ohh, this seems really practically designed! I've been saying that all the pieces were there to make something like this for a while now and that it would just take some one with the skills and the interest to make something.
I hope we get to see this project continued!
Love this project! I hope it will be available for purchase some day!
This is amazing keep it up!
This is incredibly cool.
I been looking for a solution to get into movie film at low cost and my friend!! You haved done it!!! Really looking foward to the new version!!
That's freaking cool !!!! congrats
This is such an amazing concept. I would really love to get my hands on one of these for music videos, and I’d love to do a review on it!
Brilliant!! This is amazing! Another possibile customer right here ! Keep it going please 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ready to buy now.
Wow, this is amazing! I would totally get one!
This is amazing.
also it’s impressive that you got so much footage from only a roll of 35mm film
I would love to buy this!! Incredible designing ❤
This is the most brilliant, ingenious design I've ever seen in a self made camera. At first I was very skeptical about it, since I've already seen other "movie" cameras that are 3d printed or that use the 135 format. You really need to read the whole description to understand how genius this is. I thought that by saying he only used two rolls he meant he only used two types of stocks but he can actually get more than 60 seconds on each one, so you have a solution that has actually bigger image area than super 8, works with any roll without needing modification or cutting, can be developed and scanned at home and is cheaper to use.
would absolutely love to be able to buy one of these!
Stunning project! hopefully it'll get a followup, either a commercial release or a tutorial to print it/make it ourselves. Very well done!
I don't think I watched the whole thing the first time. But when you said that minute of footage was on one roll, i didn't believe you until I checked your site. Doing 4 passes of the film is kinda genius, I'd really only be worried on how the roll knows it at the end of a pass and bleed in between shots. Overall this is a really solid project and it's really cool to see
cannot wait to see the next upgraded version, and in case you are going to manifacture , i'll be a buyer!
You're a brilliant guy.
Incredible!!!
