I'm a little shocked at how the b4 lens, weighing almost 2 kg, holds on without support... is she really all metal and is she not afraid of such loads?
Beautiful footage! I found the two looked very close, but I prefer the subtle softness and extra filmic look of the 1080p Fairchild sensor. Also not being bale to playback in camera with the G2 is a dealbreaker for me. Can't wait for the Smallrig handle to come out!
Thanks Alex, so good when you have nice places to shoot. Yeah the playback is a madness...I do get that it's a studio camera but I'd find that very limiting. Hopefully smallrig sort it out quickly.

I think these are both great cameras, we use both, they have their specific uses and both, IOHO are fantastic in low light. Play back for us isn't so important as we are shooting wildlife and scientific footage and thus there is no "take 2" etc. and hence the need not to waste time playing back footage but to focus (no pun intended) our attentions on actually capturing events which may not happen at the frequency we would like to make filming "easy" LOL. As for cages, not sure why smallrig decided to discontinue the original cage for the BMMCC because it fits precisely the latest model and whatever gear you want to bolt to it.
@@francischeefilms definitely both are great, no doubt about it. I think they're heavily slept on by a lot of people but they are very versatile. I understand about the playback in your use case...I can see why it's not a problem.

BTW nice intro location!
Thanks for this video. It was very informative. I'm looking at a G2 for my livestreamingsetup. So it suits my needs more that yours, as you mentioned the G2 is more studio-oriented. And I've ordered the HDMI-transmitter you're using. I never knew this existed and it probably fits my needs better than one from Hollyland or Vaxis (I own a transmitter set of both companies).
Thank you and yes...for studio work there's nothing better. The hdmi transmitter is extremely good for something so affordable. Lots of my friends bought it too. I really should have made a dedicated video
Great video! I've been thinking about the G2 as a b-cam for my BMCC6K. I have the 5" VA so I'm set there. Looking forward to the wing grip, that's what I would want as well, something minimal and lighter. I have the OG pocket so I can get that sexy Fairchild look when I want. Thanks for this!
Awesome, I think it would be an excellent b-cam. Look out for the new video as we're going to announce the roll cage for the micro. It's more affordable than the wing grip, just as small but does a lot more.
@@EmeraldAudiovisualwe are talking about the back right? The wing grip won't fit but with wills cage, you won't need it. The expansion pack rear will allow you to switch things up quickly though and obviously can be used without a cage.

G1 definitively more cinematic/movie feeling. Perhaps lower resolution/crop makes it, and/or not so sharp image. But tone of colors also more pleasant with G1.
Absolutely agree! I think this B4 lens is a tad soft but the good thing about G1 is when you use a sharp lens, it easily holds up to 4k and you get the benefit of those filmic colours.

Wouldn’t that 5.5inch Shimbol monitor be able to receive the signal directly from the transmitter instead of you needing to connect red Shimbol receiver?
Great video! Are other monitor/recorders like atoms or hollyland compatible with the micro G2? Can they possibly be cheaper alternatives to the Blackmagic video assist?
@@pixlstudiosbahamas thank you. I don't think you'd find many monitors cheaper. They have to have hdmi trigger record to make the process easier and all the monitors I've had like that are very expensive. If you want to press record on both cam & monitor then there are more affordable options.
@@AltCine ahhhhhh, ok I understand where you’re coming from. Cool. Thanks much for the quick response. So all of this is really helping me to make some good and informed decision. Keep up the great work.
I've been eyeing up the studio G2 over the studio G1 or the cinema G1, purely for the 4K and direct to SSD recording. The cost of the 4K assists is significant, so I thought I could direct record 4K - PREVIEW the footage, and use a cheaper 1080p EVF/assist. But the playback seems a bit of a big one... is there any sync possible with external assists, so that the record button will trigger both internal SSD recording and an external assist to record? ie have the assist recording in HD for preview, and the SSD for BRAW? The studio has features (ie being a studio camera as well) that I also want, but I really want to be able to package it into something tiny for fast shooting. How does the micro G1 compare with the pocket cinema camera? Same sensor I believe?
@@madebymccoy I believe you can trigger via the camera or video assist but double check that. There are other monitors that receive the record trigger from camera too...my Shimbol monitor can receive trigger record over hdmi but I don't have the G2 with me to test the other way round. Micro G1 is superior to OG pocket. Image is pretty much the same but cooling, FPS, compressed raw, fan, audio and more is so much better.
