- Crit racing is back for 2024 in Southern California brought to you by the California Bicycle Racing series. This is the Category 2/3 Race at CBR #1 Dominguez Hills.
I was super stoked to be back out racing my bike again after almost 6 months of absolutely no crit racing. My offseason was long and I've had a few great vacations but now we're back to it!
I definitely had some first race jitters to get out of my system and I saw that with some major inefficiencies in my bike cornering and surging on the straights. At one point I did think I was going to get dropped.
My teammate Julian was planning to lead me out, but to be honest I just absolutely blew it and didn't have the watts to hold the wheel at the end of the race like I should've. No points today but we'll get some soon enough.

Thanks for getting this uploaded so promptly. Good stuff
Figured I’d kick it out there since everyone is gonna be stuck inside on the trainer today with all this mf rain. Good seeing you out there!
Good racing with you again my dude!
Dude! Always a pleasure. I’ll have to make it up the NorCal way this season and we’ll do it again 🤘🏼
so relatable when it comes to racing in the rain. That pegged heart rate at the end is all too familiar. Good run at it
Dude, good ride in those conditions. Julian’s an animal and a hell of a lead out man. That was my first crit earlier in the day with the cat 4 group, and though not the finish I was hoping for, it was helped by watching your previous vids. Rolling 263w/292NP for a cat 4 race was not at all efficient. 😂 Thanks for putting these together and I’ll see you out there on the SD roads.
Hahaha dude NP 292 is wild for a CAT 4 race. Obviously idk how heavy you are but my most gnarly race NP like 310 but I was also attacking relentlessly and was off the front for like 15 minutes. Happy to help and thanks for checking em out! See ya around.
@@WaltDoesBikes not heavy enough to justify 292!
That pothole was no joke. Glad to see you back out there and posting videos!
Happy to be back at it!
A brand new disease from tire water… 😂😂😂… imma have to use that one next time I call in sick to work… 😂😂😂😂🍻
I tried it this week they didn’t bite
@@WaltDoesBikes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great analysis. You can't win em all. Shout out Julian dude is the dream team
Thank you. Really wanted to focus on the things I realized mid-race and translate those here out loud. I guess that's a sign of getting better overall, though. Recognizing mid-race that you're being inefficient and not riding well and adapting definitely will lead to some results. Getting there! And you're definitely right about that. The dude is an animal.
No need to risk it in the rain in January! You did the right thing. Form will come. It's a long season ahead.
Thanks, dude! I appreciate the encouragement. 😊

Your post ride 1200 watt push was bc you cleared lactate and your heartrate was lower. Great video
Exactly. Now I just need to get my fitness back to where I can clear that lactate with 5 laps to go and be ready to stomp pedals
Yeah the tire stuff was no joke but at the end I feel you on being hard on your own self BUT WE STAYED TIRES DOWN #wininthebook
dude no crashing was a huge W on a day like that. ran lower tire pressure and that helped tremendously
Good stuff! You'll be there soon. Timing just a little off.
thanks, man! good seeing you out there. hope your rider heals up soon
It is 20 degrees with 4-inches of snow here 😊.
Hahah sounds lovely. I’ll take my rain racing 😆
Dude chill out it’s January you don’t want to be too fit now… go easy on yourself, let’s see where the high flyers are in June!!
Very very true and good point. Not having top end is all Gucci. BUT I WANNA BE FAST 😆
@@WaltDoesBikes Have a good training plan and stick to it, just as long as the plan doesn’t have you peeking in January 😉
Is it possible to decrease the size of the rear camera?
Yeah! I can do that. I have been trying to find the optimal size for it but when it's too small I feel like people want it bigger haha.
@@WaltDoesBikes haha yeah, you do whatever you like the best!
First race local here don't I think is until April.
That’s like… a reasonable time frame hahah
what was the NP?
264W was NP. Funny enough it wasn’t terribly high compared to my 253W raw average. The reality is just that I should’ve been down in the 240s.
CBR lookin more like NYBR. Curse the rain 🌧️
Some Pacific Northwest BS. It’s dumpin’
