What's up! I'm a cyclist living in San Diego sharing my experiences on and off the bike (mostly on). My goal is to share with you what I do right, and what I do very, very wrong in races of all types including crits, road races, and who know what else. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and maybe some of my successes. I also aim to show you around my home and if you ever visit San Diego or SoCal make sure to give me a shout and let's burn some rubber. Lastly, any cool tech I discover, training platforms I use, and anything else that I might think is valuable I'll share that with you all also. Don't forget to Subscribe to the channel and I hope you enjoy!
Race Bike BREAKDOWN - 2024 Ritte Espirit
In this video I breakdown the 2024 Ritte Espirit in the Velvet and gold color way. This is my race bike for 2024 and most likely the 2025 crit racing season. Of course, this is a Team Race Bike, and most of the equipment on this whip is courtesy of sponsors.
However, I did get the opportunity to transfer over some key components that I really love and felt with customize this road bike just right.
I'm about 6'0 tall with a 33 inseam, rolling on a Size Large which is around a 56.5-57.0 cm equivalent. I have the 120mm x 380mm bar stem combo from OTHR components which is the Ritte in house carbon component brand.
The bike is outfitted with 50/37 Carbon Ti Chainrings adapted over to a Stone 5x110 mm aero spider that mates up nicely with my direct mount force cranks.
The groupset is SRAM Rival for the most part with a SRAM Red Crankset and SRAM Force Rotors.
The real shining star of this build is the 50/58 Elite Road Wheels from Scalar Wheels based right here in San Diego. We did team edition white logos on Sapim CX Ray bladed spokes with brass nipples and DT Swiss 240 Hubs.
Overall, I'm so excited to CONTINUE racing this bike into the next season. It's probably the best bike I've ever ridden for a wide multitude of reasons.
Shout out to Ritte for making it all happen:

Today I'm breaking down yet another Southern California Criterium Race that took place in Costa Mesa, CA this past weekend. Crit Racing is usually a battle of sprinters but in this particular case it was relentless attacking and chasing a 3X National Time Trial Champion who rolled the solo break away from around 10 minutes into the race. I talk through my role in this crit race as I ride for Ju...
Negative Team Tactics Are Lame - 2024 Barrio Logan Grand Prix Pro 1-3

Recently we raced the 2024 Barrio Logan Grand Prix in Southern California. This is one of my favorite, more technical criterium courses and in my opinion one of the most fun races that happens here in SoCal. In this race I was designated to hangout in the pack or follow moves as needed as my teammate Ansel wanted to roll the breakaway and had a good shot at winning from that move. I was able to...
2024 Ritte Espirit Bike Build

I recently got my hands on my brand new team bike, the 2024 Ritte Espirit in Velvet. So I popped over to my favorite local bike shop Switchback Velo and had Matt the Mechanic slap this baby together. I'm so excited for this build. The frameset is, of course, the Ritte Espirit frameset with the integrated OTHR 120x380mm handlebars/cockpit. I adapted my SRAM Force Cranks over to a Stone Direct Mo...

We raced perhaps one of the wettest and most chaotic criteriums to date at The Tour de Bloom up in Wenatchee, Washington a few weeks back. I broke down the race and talked through my experience in this crit race breakdown. I was having a really hard time racing forward early on in the race and realized that my cornering and line choice were causing me to suffer more than necessary. Luckily, I w...

2024 Tour de Bloom Criterium - Stage 3 Full Race

This is the nastiest, wettest criterium race I've ever done. We spent 3 days racing our bikes up at the Tour de Bloom in Wenatchee, WA near Seattle. This full race is from the Category 2/3 Field which was directly in the middle of an absolute downpour. I'm not the biggest on racing in the rain, and this particular crit course was very unique with a hill and a set of cobbles. It raced extremely ...

What size bike are you rocking?
Really like the bag. So do baggage handlers - so buy a set of spare wheels (you'll thank me later). When in transit, this bike bag spends most of its time on its side - which is why people may have issues with levers etc. So, go to a department store and buy one of those hard foam rollers that is wider than your handlebars and fits snuggly into that bag space. Then get a box cutter and carve out a space for the hoods and computer mount. Lastly, remove the derailleur. . . Cheers and happy and safe travels 👍
What size is your frame?
Thank you D… just got my bike bag… this helped big time… 🍻
Thank you! Best explanation I've found!
Would love to see your update on this. I see in the comments you mention you're keeping it and woop. How does woop compare to a galaxy watch?
what a great video! I need to change my wahoo cassette to 12 SRAM speed and Ive been procrastinating because it felt like a mission.
Thanks so much! Happy to help
If I just bought a 12spd SRAM bike and want to use a Kickr Core Trainer, do I have to do this or will my bike mount on the stock cassette that comes with the Kickr?
Where did you get that rear derailleur cover? I don't see that as part of the orucase kit.
It’s integrated with the rear triangle protection portion if I remember correctly.
where is that rear derailleur protector from? I dont see it as part of the ORUCase kit online.
that pitch is killing
😘
Did you unscrew the rear derailleur from the frame? Thanks for the video.
Nope! The Orucase frame protection kit has a piece that mostly protects the RD. I haven’t had any issues with it being bent but that could be a concern if the airlines really throw it around.
Ive never had to take off di2 battery on the airport. I know they scan the bike box for batteries but i think the di2 battery is too small for it to matter.
“Lithium-ion batteries are considered dangerous goods when transported by air and are not allowed in the cargo holds of passenger aircraft. The fear is that if they catch fire, they could go into thermal runaway, a chain reaction that occurs when the battery rapidly increases in temperature and releases energy. This could cause a catastrophic explosion, as the volatile gases build up pressure in the cell and rupture the battery. The resulting fire could release volatile organic compounds that can ignite when they come into contact with oxygen in the air. The cargo holds of planes are not designed to handle such a blaze, and the heat and smoke from the fire could damage the liners or pressure relief panels. Safety analysts warn that this type of fire could even take down a plane”
I don’t understand the grading system hahah
Good watch to get me through the shit weather in Australia, before I head off for a block of racing in China

bro, you look like Lit Killah so much jaja, saludos

"It hurts so bad every year and I jut forget" I can relate that to that so much having done so many GFs. I forget how hard the previous year's GF was lol. Loved your video, dude. P.S. Just curious, how tall are you and how much do you weigh?
I’m 6’ 165 ish! Thanks! This year’s is much better overall hahah
Are you doing a video on Tour de Big Bear?
I am! Offloaded footage today
@@WaltDoesBikes hell yeah! You killed it on the decent!
Yo Dalton, im not sure if you know the channel NorCal cycling. Something I really like about his channel is the distance remaining in the top right, i think it adds a lot because things that happen in the race matter in the context of the distance remaining. Would you ever think about adding a distance countdown of some sort. Great vid!🎉
Thanks for the shout! I’ll give it a go and see if it’s something I’m able to add. Under Garmin VIRB I’m not able to add it but I’m working on learning a new program that would probably let me get that data point for y’all. Thanks for watching!
What drone did you use?
Skydio 2!
This dude 😂, come on man...
Great set up you have there, nice to be dialed in, makes you look forward to every ride.
Thank you! It really does get you excited in a new way
That was a pretty epic race. We were there repping @SSB .We are committed to get more roadrace/crit and gravel exposure for the cycling community. Exposure and livestream will be the key. This was a well run crit and look forward to more. Also great edit and commentary. Drop in and say what's up when you see us out there in the future. Were in it for the long haul.
The LA Crits Livestream has been so instrumental in sharing criterium racing (particularly SoCal racing) with a much larger audience than ever before. It's a cool time to be a part of this sport. Stoked to have you guys out repping!
Dude Was Quick, Here From UK🤙🇬🇧

@@WaltDoesBikes your welcome Mayne 🤙
im getting my bolt v1 today, and this is the only video I have found that really shows how the setup works on the wahoo app, thanks a lot!!!!

🤣🤣🤣
You're not a serious racer if you run SRAM. Slooowww.
Oh, goodness! I’ll swap out my groupset right now. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll tell the Blazers, L39ion, and Outlaws that they better drop SRAM, also.
OP has obviously not been to a gravel race or a MTB race or any sort of road race lately.
@@petersouthernboy6327 There's no denying.... SRAM is objectively slower. If you win with SRAM, you can win on another brand using less energy. Obviously.
Yo! This just in. I was able to work with Scalar Wheels to get my viewers and friends of the team a fantastic $250 discount on any wheelset built with DT Swiss Hubs. Use code: FRIENDSOFDV to snag the discount over at Scalar.
Used to race on a team sponsored by Spencer in 2015. We were on the Ace. Great bikes! I particularly love the concept behind the brand. Spencer named it after Henri “Ritte” Van Lerberghe, who's claim to fame was winning a big race in Belgium after downing a few pints of beer in the pub. This bike is art...looks beautiful
So much history I didn't even know. Appreciate the insight, good sir. The funny part about exactly that backstory... is that it fits our vibe perfectly.
Great overview of a clean setup but missing the freehub sound check :(
No lie... I was sitting here editing and I was like dang... I didn't even wind up the rear wheel for that sweet sweet buzzing. Then I got over it and posted it without. Maybe I'll make a Reel on the gram hahah.
@@WaltDoesBikes do it for the gram 👍🏽
This vid and all the Deus Velox rider content these days have really made me want one. On the rotor topic @PeakTorque sells rotor adapters that make the standard go from 160 front to 180 and i believe 160 in the rear; anyway, another option.
180?! Bruh I’ll be over the bars in no time flat

great walk thru! (and btw, on the bluetooth mic, no need to hold that close - it'll sound better a bit further from you tbh. or just clip it on your collar)
Thanks! Curious what you’re listening on? When I open the video on my phone it’s much louder than anticipated. But when I did the editing in my headphones and checked it on my studio monitors the sound was balanced and there was no clipping inside Premiere Pro.
@@WaltDoesBikes on roku/yt app on smart tv. audio is a tiny bit blown out/over modulated. just yours
@@Chris-derf5 thanks for the clarification. Will fix the mic inputs moving forward. Sorry about the clipping!
@@WaltDoesBikes all good! always enjoy your content and perspective!
"Everybody in the peleton wanted to chase me." Your power was never that high or it appeared to fade very quickly. So it seems from this vodeo that the field probably didn't have too hard a time catching you. If you're going to bridge up, you have to hit em a lot harder than that.
There was zero hesitation from the remaining field any time I accelerated to roll away. Since when is getting separation about maximum power? It’s about timing and momentum, no?
Great video, loved all the insights by Matt. Music was TOO LOUD though, it'd also be cool if the music had no vocals to it so we could focus more on the build and the banter between Matt and the boys. Lovely looking bike, what was the final weight?
The music drowning out our back and forth was intentional. I’m filming a bike breakdown video I’ll go over the details and weight.
Appreciate your thoughts 😊
🎂 🤤
🎶 I don't think I'm ready for this jelly... 😂
Hahaha damn that’s a TB
@@WaltDoesBikes Dalton, can you handle this? I don't think they can handle this! 🎶
We just got it in our blood
I wish you would have had your camera angle at eye height on the Rincon Bike path because the view is way better. With the camera that low, it's kinda claustrophobic, plus you can't see the beach or the 101 hwy directly beside you.
I’ll tell the genie
If your job is to make sure TT dude doesn't go off, then why go in the 4 man move early? That was a mistake. After that came back, you fell to the back and ended up in no position to cover TT dude move. You need to gain some watts between your ears.
good point brain very smuuv no good bike racer just do watts and see wut happen
What’s the weight?
I’ll weigh it for the breakdown video! My guess is like 17 lbs idk

Cory must be a stud to hold that lead, nice effort at the end, been there, done that. This video makes me miss my race days.
Love your attitude about this bag and not caring about what people will say. kislux You are right keep your head up and no your priorities.
Dude has taken quite a few of my KOM’s on SART which I’ve held for many years both ways… didn’t bother me one bit lol.
He’s got all the ones on the Bako path too
@@WaltDoesBikes yup, usually no one could touch me on a TT bike and often on climbs like Crystal Lake out here, but I know my place. Good to see my former teammate Janneck still mixing it up.
Great race recap! So after catching Cory he basically counter attacked…the chase group…and rode away again⁉️ ~UA-cam algorithm code monkeys hype this dude up.
Thanks, dawg 🙏🏼 Hahah pretty much. We caught the dude and he was like nah, time to go again ☠️
Consummate teammate putting in the work, especially after having raced EACC the day before in that heat!
Dude the heat was fked the day before. I exploded
Thoughts on the Blazers bikini kit?
I think their kits this year are hype.
So cool to see you mixing it up with the big boys! Looks like you were very consequential, even with Lockwood up the road
Thank you! Getting better every time I line up. Racing these races without having earlier races in my legs has really allowed me to actually use my brain instead of just hanging on for dear life. 😆
When Cory went off the front - and held it… I dunno what it looked like on UA-cam, but live, standing there watching it, was probably theeee most impressive thing I’ve ever seen happen at a crit… 🍻
Dude is an animal. That means you can probably attest to how flat out the pack was riding and he still stayed away.
@@WaltDoesBikes Yup… I may be off on the times a bit but he was out 31 seconds, the pack got’em down to around 15, then it went back to around 20 something… incredible…
