13-14 is a strange age category. You get pre-puberty kids who truly look like children, racing against others making full on grown-ass-man power.

Seeing them kids race like this it's no wonder people are having breakthrough successes at world tour level in their early 20's. If you just compare it to juniors from 10 years ago it's already a completely different world. The professionalism, gear, training methods and general knowledge are on point at such a young age now.
Makes me wonder how it will affect the length of the pro cyclists careers.. Can imagine it taking a heavy toll both mentally and physically

Really impressive! I raced for decades and that race and those power numbers were impressive. I can't believe they're 13. I also can't believe he came up to win in the last k from that position especially after using so much energy covering gaps throughout the race. He's going to be a monster in the senior peloton in a few years.

So happy for Eli. Too bad he wasn't available to talk about his race.
fwiw - Lack of teams overall would be interesting but national championships I've seen are mostly a free for all individual effort. It's what makes them so interesting in my opinion. Yes, in pro races teammates participate in the same championship but team tactics, while not ruled out, aren't a thing like they are in other events so we get to see who really is the strongest/smartest going into the Tour, etc.

So exciting watching these two phenoms rise to the top. I can only hope that one day I'll be able to tell my son, 'you know those two world tour riders, Eli and Jack? Even at the age of 16-17 like me now you can still only have a 52/14

Bear in mind 1400W peak power is nothing like a sustained 1400W sprint - and he showed absolutely nothing like that in this race, which had a pretty sedate (if schizophrenic) average pace ... it was more like 1000W sustained for 10 seconds before his legs and power died. Clickbait title basically.

I've love to see the youngsters getting involved in competitive cycling! There is a lot of undeveloped talent in a nation of 330 million. Now if we could some of that talent interested in cycling instead of the ball sports we could easily produce multiple Tadej Pogocars, Jonas Vingegaards, and Wout Van Aerts.
