Super video...great content! Thank you Eric
Thanks Derrick!
Everyone tries to mimic the bent right arm when explaining the golf swing but no one breaks it down like you do! Homework!!! Thank you for your valuable time.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
Yes thats me at the very end especially. I never really fully knew it until I got face on w video. I could see that I stood up. I could see that there was no lag or flexion. Not only that, but my wrists were fully released at or before impact - and I look like someone who is scooping - 'Oh you're trying to help the ball get up' .... no I'm not, I just physically can't 'Hold On' long enough.
These are the circumstances that have brought me here. I'm trying to hang onto the angles through impact. Just now I'm getting the clue that it has something to do with beginning rotation and extension. Trying to discover a practice routine that gets hip out of way and lets me turn thru instead of throwing it all away the instant before impact
O my....Now I have a crap load of work to do ..lol....but at least now I know why my arm bends so much at the top and why my misses are pulls...I need more side bend on the downswing.....Many thanks, Eric.
Our pleasure! Hope this one helps your game!
I’ve watched a lot of golf videos, and without a doubt, your explanation of the process of bending your trail arm and rotating it toward your torso is the best explanation of how to facilitate the folding of the trail arm. So much instruction as to the importance of the folding of the trail arm is to tell you that it needs to be done, without giving you the tool to facilitate it. Bravo!
Thank you!
This was just what I needed , I was thinking about how much right arm should fold, and when it should get straightened.. and this video described it to a tee, pun not intended.
Hope it helps, John! Appreciate you watching!
Dude. Where there were you 50 years ago… when I started this game… great video… thanks
:) Thanks Jerry!
At 78: years old I have difficulty with my shoulder turn, my chest turning up, etc, etc. However, keeping my right arm in that slightly bent position at address as allowed me to have a better chest and shoulder turn, and has freed up my grip pressure. Which allows me to return my cub to its starting position much more consistently.
Thanks for the lesson.
Hope this one helps, Jim!
Excellent video Eric! This is probably one of the most detailed video I have seen on the golf swing from set up to impact and post impact! I am definitely going to archive this for future reviews! Thanks Again!!! Enjoy all of your lessons!!
Thank you John!! Appreciate you!
I have been struggling lately knowing that my right arm was not folding correctly. This video has solved my problem with the right arm. The tip using the split hand grip turning and shirt buttons facing the sky in combination with the right hand folding has turned my game around. Thank you Eric for the excellent video
Our pleasure, John!
Brilliant explanation and easier for us amateurs to understand. Thanks 🙏
Thanks Shane :)
..great stuff, very very clear, you’re an excellent teacher, brilliant
Thank you very much!
Fantastic Eric. Spring cold too as a bonus.
Thank you Roger!
As always a great video - thanks yet again👍🏻
Thanks Gerry! Our pleasure!
The best golf video ever!!!
Thank you :)
Right up my alley Eric! Thanks.
You got it :)
Excellent explanation Eric , thank you !!!
Thank you!!
Awesome video Eric!! What I struggle with is standing up before contact therefore, poor contact, and basically flipping the club. I started rehearsing before I hit and it’s actually helped me tremendously!! Thanks to watching your videos I’ve been really getting back to where I used to be. I think my 8 back surgeries and where I have been fused in my lower back has hindered my swing more. My left leg now is about a half inch longer now, and it’s really hard to turn to the front and rotate completely. Im getting there though!! Like I said your videos are why I’m doing so much better and I just wanted to really thank you for being an awesome teacher!!
Appreciate it, Brian!
Great info man thanks…..
Thanks Jerry!
I really like you instruction videos but most could be done in under 3 minutes. I would definitely watch more of them!
Check out our SHORTS! Thanks for watching!👍
Just play it at 2x speed
Great video... and a tip for you... Flonase and Zyrtec can be taken together. I feel your pain. (game changer)
Lol 100% Nathan---thanks. Back in PA for summer----the allergies are on fire!!!
Thank you for another excellent video

Great one as always👏👏👏👍
Thanks a lot Herman!
Really good video, thank you 🙏
Thank you! Appreciate you watching!
Great drill checks
Thank you Daniel!
Great video
Thanks Paul!
Simply enlightening 🤩🙏🙏🙏🙏🏆
Appreciate you watching! Hope this one helps your game!
Interesting top of the back swing numbers... Most I have looked at says that going past 90 (like to 75 or whatever) is very uncommon for pros. At least according to the Athletic Motion golf Gears research in their trail arm videos. Thanks for the video as always!
90* a good average!
wow you are the best!
Appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching!
Great lesson.
I have trouble with the position of my left arm on my pec and the position of my right elbow on the downswing.
Can you suggest drills?
Keith.
Sure thing Keith but I see to see your swing to see exactly what you are doing....sign up free 14 day trial to www.cogornogolf.com
Thank for the great content! I am struggling with the thought of “throw the trail arm” or “throw the club to the target”, to do those my brain is controlling my body to apply force through my arm and no matter how fast I turn my hip the arms can always catch up to cause lost of lag or chicken wing. So do we use arm force at all in the down swing to “throw”? I always feel the power of the swing comes from my arm instead of my body turn. Do you have an episode to address this problem?
Hey Steven....unfortunately this is too general a topic to give good answers. Try free 14 day trial to www.cogornogolf.com so you can send me your swings and I can give you specifics for what YOU need
Great video Eric. I have watched almost all your video. I know u had different instructors on here who has different insights. Here is my life long question no pros has ever answer for me. Is the downswing a right arm dominate action or left arm? Or the feel should be together? Some instructors say They throw my right arm at the ball, some teach They sling my left arm thru the ball, some say they don’t think about their arms they just turn the torso and arm is just part of the whip. What is your philosophy on this?
Hey!
The problems with this is there is no correct answer.....the reason you have not gotten a good answer is because the question is OPINION :)
Any FEEL based questions will vary. Its not 2+2=4.
IF you MEASURE it....ofcourse....both are involved.
Two players could make the SAME motion....one FEELS right arm throwing and the other FEELS left arm pulling.....when measured they do the same exact thing......whos correct?
You see the issue here?
So I don't like speaking in philosophy too much....I like facts.
The facts are both are involved.
I think you are searching for a FEEL answer which is SUBJECTIVE. Anytime you talk about what someone FEELS, THINKS, etc......you cannot expect the answers to be the same.
Maybe a better question is what do YOU need to feel....which can be answered by looking at your video and seeing your current motion compared to what you need to do
Great video. Can’t overemphasize the importance of that right arm. Ben Hogan said he wished he had 3 right arms lol
:) Thanks!!
Hi Eric I thank you for your great videos I have a problem in straightening right arm appropriately @ P5.5 like a Hogan , Robert Rock , Grant Waite or Mac O'Grady who seem to live @ that position on the rt elbow plane My arm is on plane but too bent just before the last parallel Any suggestions how to make it straighter? Thank You
Hey Meg
Would need to see your swing to see why you would be struggling with that. Use free 14 day trial to www.cogornogolf.com and send in your swings
Should I be seeing the results right away from keeping the right arm bent through the down swing at impact? I have the issue of straightening my arm too much before impact and I am trying to fix it but since I have been trying to rotate my body more (right shoulder down) and keep my right arm bent through impact I am losing a lot of power and slicing more. Is it the type of drill where things are going to get worse before they get better? Thanks for your videos :)
Hi Eric, brilliant golf video, as usual. I, m a subscriber to your golf chanel and always give your videos a like! The question l want to ask about this video is.... Does the degree of shaft lean change depending on whether you,re using a 6 iron or a nine iron, for instance? And should the shaft lean be the same at strike, as it is at address?
Hey Charles!
Thanks!
It does change slightly but more or less the idea is to start with the hands inside lead thigh at setup then more over lead leg at impact
the ball position will dictate the amount of shaft lean
So if the hands are in the same spot at impact but with driver ball more forward in stance = less shaft lean....opposite for shorter clubs
Great video Eric. Does the club naturally fall on the downswing from the top, is it a conscious move to get the club to a certain position halfway down, etc? What I see is that all good ball strikers have the club at a certain spot (approx) when the weight shifts and they start down. My club position is higher / farther back from what I see Adam Scott do. Sergio says pull the club down, some say don't do that. Even when I square up and weight shifted my club is not in the right position and I think I get stuck as a result and I'm a little under plane. Thoughts?
Hey Jason!
Heres the real answer (but no what you are looking for)
If something happens without the players thought then it "naturally" happens, yes.
If it doesn't happen automatically then YOU....MUST....MAKE IT....HAPPEN.

This is going to sound really pedantic but do you grip club and then point your right elbow slightly inward or do you point the right elbow inward before gripping the club ? Thanks
Either can work but most grip first then elbow second
@@CogornoGolf Thank you very much. Reason for asking is that I gripped it first but when I pointed the right elbow in, it slightly moved my right hand i.e strengthened the grip albeit slightly. Thanks again. It is appreciated.
Key statement is "the lower your right shoulder is though impact..."
Yep!
Do you give swing video analysis in 14 day trial?
Yep!
@@CogornoGolf I’m signing up. That right arm video is a big help for me
Love it---lets do it!
We've always been told that the swing should be controlled by the forward arm & the trail arm only for supporting the club. Now everyone is teaching how to use the trail arm & throwing the clubface thru extension. Personally, I prefer this method, but it goes against every method taught over the past 50 years by nearly every instructor.
Neither is right or wrong....we can measure what REALLY happens....but whether the player FEELS lead or trail arm will vary and neither is wrong
