    Rob Cheney was just working on that right elbow feeling but using that football shaped training aid. When I’m on the coarse playing I feel like I’m pushing the right elbow into the left. It really works and I love the way you described it as well. It makes you hit a nice draw.

    My inside right arm simply needed to be facing the ball on setup. I’ve had the damndest time attempting the correct right elbow before impact position, but this solved it for me... Dennis follows with building the setup.. getting the draw… dialing it in. Exactly what I needed. Cogorno, we’ll played.

    Good timing for this video. During my last round, I was focusing on keeping my right arm bent longer and getting it in front me at impact then straightening at your 45 degrees after impact. Unfortunately, I think I hyperextended my right arm and I don't know what I did incorrectly that caused it. Did I swing out to the right instead of around more to the left?

      Hey, I think I have the same injury right now. It’s been about a month since I hurt my right elbow because I was extending too early and not getting a proper weight shift toward the target. I have been practicing half swings doing this same technique and I feel better about getting both arms extended past impact.

    Great video. Trail arm (elbow) and the proper movement is soooo important. As I teach I have discovered you have to be careful how you teach this to a one plane swing player vs a two plane swing player. The function of the trail elbow is basically the same but because of the two different postures at set up (two plane swing more upright vs one plan swing more bent over) the right elbow will be less bent in the set up for two plane and more bent at set up for the one plane because of the more bending over. Also, I feel to feel the elbow is more turned in the lead shoulder should feel like it is pointing slightly right of the target. Takeaway to toe up sets the trail elbow really good. In the approach to impact the feeling should be keeping the trail elbow bent and the release point is in front of the impact zone. Now for the two plane swing the pointing will be closer to the ball or straighter trail arm with a more upright explosion of the body like Lexi or Bubba vs a more pointing out front for a one plane swing like a Fowler, Garcia or Kuchar. The fundamental is the same but look is different because of the different postures.

    Really good lesson here. Much more critical than some might see.
    Dennis good teacher.
    I'm suspicious that developing golfers actually understand the essential importance of these concepts for getting low point past the ball.
    The idea that full length radius is not reached till that 45 degree point past the ball that is .
    Conceptually, golfers tend to default to a simplistic view of the swing as having a constant radius and hyper focus on ball position, weight/pressure shifts , etc to control low point. When actually the radius shortens in backswing then extends again during the downswing of course.
    Impact radius being shorter than address radius(huge concept here). We don't return to and then go past address radius until well past the ball.
    As we advance the low point targetward with pressure and swing center moving slightly forward.
    Though minorly important , ball position, swing center shift, and pressure shift cannot advance low point without the ideas presented here in action.
    So the radius at impact, with considerable rear wrist extension still present , is considerably shorter than address, which means a lowering from address position must occur to actually make contact. This is where returning to back flexion from top of swing back extension and rear side crunch comes into play.
    Often a light bulb moment for students is showing them that they cannot make contact with rear wrist extension without this lowering . They will pass over the ball .
    And of course the vast majority of golfers are doing exactly the opposite; throwing their rear elbow and rear hand angles early, actually making tbe radius longer than at address , which compels the dreaded "early extension" in order to not hit the ground . The body always will solve the problem, but it's gotta be the right problem. Early extension is a solution to the wrong problem. And the ideas in this lesson are a big part of creating the right problem to solve.
    I found the best way to stop early extension with students is to teach them to make impact with rear wrist extension still in place. As you two demonstrate here.
    Bottom line is that this lesson is much more important than it might appear on the surface.. It solves many consequential issues. It gives the right problem to solve for the body and many good things come consequentially as a result .
    It's a root concept that drives so many good things.
    👍

    I always try feel like Im accelerating my hands through the ball, really helps

    • @555Trout
      @555Trout 2 роки тому +2

      Something to ponder:
      When we study pros vs recreational golfers, pro's hands/arms accelerate much sooner, almost immediately from the top, and stop accelerating much sooner, and are decelerating through impact, where as recreational golfers accelerate the hands/arms much later in the downswing with less deceleration through impact.
      Ponder that because it's super important.
      If your hands/arms were actually accelerating through impact the club would never "release" without manual pressure through the hands.
      In other words the energy of the upper levers would never be transferred to the lower lever, the shaft.

    Eric, my problem is with a conventional distance from the ball my right elbow hits my torso and the face closes (I need to trim some weight I know). I get some big hooks and pull hooks from there. Should I consider moving my hands further from my body? I've already pulled my hips back as far as I can and that does create some space. But it also puts me into a more bent over position, which doesn't feel too good on the back. Your suggestions?

    Do you think it’s possible to get that R elbow too straight all the way through the backswing (total reverse of Fault 1)? I’ve found for fear of bending the R arm too much I keep it extended a ton and don’t really let it bend on the backswing until the very top. Could this be too much of a good thing? Or is keeping it as straight as possible fine?

    Do you really throw the right arm, or is it more passive and just getting pulled through by the pivot and left arm? One thing that has me convinced that this is the case is the slow motion driver video of Bryson that they showed during a tourney this year showing how he was maintaining the angle of his right hand at impact…his right hand was literally off the club (he was not squeezing the club or applying force).

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 роки тому

      Generally speaking I would say you would look for the straightening of the right arm to be a PASSIVE movement....a lot of times the more active parts will need to be not over bending in the backswing and sometimes more external/less internal in transition.
      Of course if you have good movements before and do them NATURALLY then it requires no extra thought, but if not then we need to consciously/actively change something to change it
