Personal preference, but I don't think gaming chairs of any sort even have a good aesthetic. Office chairs tend to range from bland to mildly interesting at best, but I think they're a marked improvement over the ridiculousness of the gaming chair look. On the other hand though all the chairs with the really cool or interesting designs just suck as chairs, too much form over function. Office chairs are basically as good as the aesthetic gets, unless you don't sweat much and take to leather well, and can afford some fancy chair with carved arm rests or something.

The mrs and I have had our set of "his and her" DX Racer Formula series chairs for almost 10 years now and I love that they still feel just as solid as they did the day I assembled them. Since then I've made some upgrades to my own chair by replacing the castors with rollerblade wheels giving me a little bit of extra height and a nice silent roll on my tempered glass floormat. The only other thing I've had to do was replace the gas piston in the Mrs' chair and that's pretty much it! I did pay a little bit for both of them, but I'm glad that I did because they're both still standing just as they did the day that they arrived.

I'm in the camp that enjoys gaming chairs and how they feel, having used both ergo office chairs and gaming chairs.
I did splurge and spend $500 on my Secret Labs chair that I recently got, having used a Corsair $250 one before, and I can definitely say if you're gonna get a gaming chair, look up reviews and consider saving to spend more on a higher quality one.
On top of the magnetic pillow, the internals have height adjustable lumbar support and the foam material for the base is comfy af.
I sit anywhere between 8-10 hours a day on it, so I think that's def the way to go if you're considering gaming chairs.

I have very extended game times, and I've gone through many chairs. I've had an expensive leather office chair, a mesh ergo chair, and my current Secret Labs chair. The mesh chair was very comfortable, but it didn't last...the mesh stretched out after about a year. I've had my Secret Labs chair now since 06/19 and it's rock solid and no worn parts. Also, not quite as comfortable as the mesh chair, but it's still acceptable. I would recommend the Secret Labs chair..if you can get it on sale for $400 or less, more $ than that and I would go back to another Mesh chair.

The Vortex chair snapped in half underneath me on Sunday night. One of the two struts sheared in two right along the washer where the back rest was bolted onto the seat. Piece was ABS plastic with fiberglass infill, and the inside of the plastic piece was full of bubbles to the point where the exterior paint coat had a rough finish. I bought a new chair that cost ~200$ from amazon (a big white chair because im tall) last Christmas. Obviously i could set the angle of the back as i would
About 5 month of heavy use (also named as "covid"), the chair's back began to fall back if too much pressure was applied (like for example i dunno, ME), because the gear who should hold this part began to being smooth. This is really awful because i have no idea how to repair that part, and my back is already shitty so i really needed durability on that.
Today we can adjust it in only two position: too straight up (at least for me), or bed mode.

The lumbar support is reasonable, the mesh has held up very well.

I bought a 1200$ Ergocentric Geo from The Source Furniture Warehouse (A "proudly canadian company"). So far the cushions are quite firm and there's a lot of adjustability, but it's already making loud squeaking and screeching noises when i adjust, and if im in the "lay back mode" if i push against the back in order to adjust myself in the chair it'll start to release the hydraulics and the back of the chair will lower.
Im not sure if it's an assembly issue, im going to further take it apart and reassemble/retighten things on it.

I made the mistake of buying a gaming chair. Twice. First time the chair I bought was some extremely cheap chair that got uncomfortable to sit in after a year of time. One of the pipes in the back of the chair ate through the foam and in result was felt like having a knife stuck into my back. Plastic literally chipped off from the wheels, the handrests werent stable anymore. I made a tour to the shop i bought it from, returned it, was credited the money back, and made the same mistake - this time with another gaming chair brand. This one was even more sucky, as after 3 weeks of use, the lever which you adjust the position of the back no longer served its function, and in result when you layed back on it, the back of the chair would go all the way back. This scared the f out of me several times. I came back to the store, they took the chair in, repaired it, 1 week later i was met with the same chair with a repaired back. The chair was in fact so bad that even after replacing, 1 week in I was met with the same problem, so in the end I had to have the chair repaired twice, only on the third time they fully credited the purchase. Now I'm a semi proud owner of a dxracer chair, which is not as bad as the previous chairs I owned, surely it is of higher quality and hasn't combusted (for now).

A HermanMiller pro tip: Check with used office furniture sellers in your area. You can buy good stuff for a lot less. For example, used variants of the Aeron chair sell for US$550 here in Houston, Texas, USA. Used furniture will likely be sold as is, so make certain everything is to your liking before you pay: check the mechanism, sit in the chair, play with all the adjustments, check the fabric and whatnot. Your body will thank you for it.

I've got a Cougar chair, too, and I've been using it for 2-3 years now (my wife has one as well, and I showed her this video and she doesn't understand the complaints here either). I don't get the general complaint about "gaming" chairs. You get what you pay for. I've bought office chairs from Office Depot that MSRP for as much as this Cougar chair and they definitely fell apart much faster than this chair is falling apart. It's more about what you pay than the style of the chair.
I love my Steelcase chair at the office, but I like the neck support on my gaming chair, the neck rest pillow, and the ability to lean as far back as I want to in my Cougar chair (because I'm old and I like to nap, but if I go to bed I'll extreme over-nap). That Steelcase chair at the office is $400 used and I think about $800 new. It's not worth the money for me unless I can identify an actual problem with my current setup. For that $1500 chair, I expect more than that underwhelming looking Logitech chair. I don't care about "gamer aesthetic"...my PC has zero added RGB lighting except for came default on the mobo and GPU. My case is a pretty boring rectanglular cube. I'm not buying it to impress my gamer friends or whatever other reason people think people buy "gaming" chairs.
I love Dawid's content, but this whole series makes me feel like I'm watching one of those infomercials where someone comically wipes out doing simple everyday things to show why you need to buy some product. I've got a GTRacing brand chair that *looks* to be built very similarly, but it's nothing like what you described; it's built incredibly solidly, there's no rickety or flimsy action, I've scooted around and slammed on it in frustration, and I've sat on it for enough houds to leave a permanent arseprint on the bottom cushion. I even opened the back up and found that it was backed by some decently well-built metal pipework, witha mesh film stretched over it and the memory foam layered over that.
My only regret with this chair is that I've managed to wear the memory foam down by using it so much, and as a rwsult it doesn't support me quite the same as it used to. Warranty's out, so I may consider butchering it up a bit and swap the stock foam with some much more pliable memory foam pillows I got my hands on and am not using.
