I love at 6:25 Daniel asking for another chorus, preventing the solo, and Jacob going like ‘you got it pal’. Really love these kind of live, natural interactions
Does Daniel even know he’s a legend? He seems so surprised and happily taken aback at the feedback of the audience. Then again, JC fans are truly a different breed.
One of my favorite things about Jacob is how he believes in his audience. Most artists would be worried whether their audience would be able to harmonize like that, but Jacob knows they can.
My. God. That's just a total mastery of harmony. I mean, he does this on the fly. The average musician would take ages to write harmonies like the ones he's making, LIVE.
This is an incredible catch and gives me so much respect for both of these artists!! Jacob's amazing for being able to pick up on it so easily and that run he goes on around 7:00 is INSANE. And Daniel is so humble and willing to perform!!
Most of the audience at his concerts are musicians themselves. There seems to be an equation whereby the more musical training or talent you have, the more you are then able to appreciate what Jacob creates. Yet, he is a sonic pied piper as well, leading us towards new realms of headphone delights.
It’s like that time i went to the drumfest in montreal and a band on tha main stage made the audience clap. It was legit frightening how tight it was, almost unmusical.
I am 53 years old. Attended a Daniel Caesar performance in L.A. this youngman is amazingly humble and gifted! I loved when the crowd cheered for him. The young people genuinely love what he does.
I see jacob loves this song, he was hyped and mashing that piano lol. This was incredible. Ive literally run out of adjectives to describe Jacob at this point.
I love the reactions of the crowd, I feel that's one of the things that I love about jazz, it isn't the same without an "amen", or laughter at the pure genius of a chord progression or voicing or melody or lick, words of encouragement, the way other people playing with you answer, question, one up you, give you space, challenge you. It's when those moments happen that I feel that at the tip of my fingers I'm giving life to something, that isn't mine or the crowds or the other instrumentalists, it's something bigger than all of us, and we are just there enjoying it, and in an act of almost worship. Loved this live rendition, very powerful!
The happiness in the room is extraordinary. All the young people here are involved in music, apparently. That's why they respond to Jacob's musicianship so powerfully. Only young people have this gift of joyfulness. But then, Daniel Caesar arrives on stage and the audience ERUPTS. Once again, the joy - there's no other word for it - is absolutely total. And the hug of friendship between Jacob and Daniel at the end is very moving.
@Bouncybon, Right On! I dig em' both, Jacob & Daniel are excellent artists. However, your thought to this crowd being "extraordinarily" happy is not that rare IMO, anyhow. Back in the day when Jerry Garcia was still alive & jamming, I went to many Grateful Dead concerts with over 150,000 fans on a summer day & night outside rocking & rolling to a great vibe & groove of people happily jamming together as one every time I went to a GD show. Now with John Mayer jamming on tour with the Dead & Company, those shows still bring on that type of vibe in the crowd. Yet, not quite the same energy Jerry brought to people & peace! So, if you dig that kinda vibe even if you don't care much for the music, I'd still suggest to you to go to a Dead show if they come to town if only for the experience itself. Trust me, the peaceful, happy, energy itself is cool as could be, those concert crowds put out a very powerful energy to all who come to the show. Just saying... +++++++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul+++++++

moments like 3:37 (after he says "rain" and plays that funky chord) remind me of a talent of Jacob's that isn't talked about much. He is SO GOOD at word painting, which is like matching lyrics to specific sounds in music. His understanding of voicings and how certain chords can create meaning or add emphasis to lyrics is incredible and practically unmatched. Awesome, awesome stuff
As far as I'm aware, Jacob has never played a wind instrument, so no, he can't play everything. Besides, in this video he only plays piano and sings, so it's not really relevant to talk about his multi-instrumental skills.
@@bro748 I wasn't talking about his multi-instrumental skills. He is capable to produce or play any sorts of music. His understanding of music theory and approach is on top level.

Jacob Collier : Yes!
Totally not a horrendously overused comment.
2:16 to anyone curious he's playing the Prometheus scale, it's a mixolydian with a raised 4th (accents the sharp 11 and gives a very mysterious feel)
I was looking for a comment abt this thank
Serious question. Why not just b7, #11?
Pretty piano go tinkle tinkle
ive also heard it called as lydian dominant or lydian b7
woah. thanks! cuz i’m gonna be using that all the time now!
I love how Jacob looks at Daniel on 8:27 straight appreciating his decision

Does Daniel even know he’s a legend? He seems so surprised and happily taken aback at the feedback of the audience. Then again, JC fans are truly a different breed.

When people gather to appreciate good music and musicians, I realize there's still something good in this world
Music is a reflection of what humanity can really be if everyone put aside their differences and appreciated every single thing very deeply.
Absolutely no matter what there are still us good people out here #Peace&Love
One of my favorite things about Jacob is how he believes in his audience. Most artists would be worried whether their audience would be able to harmonize like that, but Jacob knows they can.
My. God. That's just a total mastery of harmony. I mean, he does this on the fly. The average musician would take ages to write harmonies like the ones he's making, LIVE.
well he's not average bruh, like those crashy funk right hand and the walking bass on the interlude is just out of this world
This is Jacob. He makes music. People say he's talented. They're not wrong.

I think that at 6:22 Jacob was preparing to end the song but Daniel asks him to go over it once more, so cool! haha
so awesome, great catch
Yesss, that "do more of that shit ur doing, it sounds amazing" energy
This is an incredible catch and gives me so much respect for both of these artists!! Jacob's amazing for being able to pick up on it so easily and that run he goes on around 7:00 is INSANE. And Daniel is so humble and willing to perform!!
The part when Daniel comes out... and the reaction of the crowd.. it just moves me so much. Brings me to tears. Such an epic moment.
Can someone explain why the crowd is singing in perfect harmony!!
I wouldn't say perfect
I've been to enough concerts in Toronto, to know how crap we sound, I'm convinced this must be overdubbed haha

I see jacob loves this song, he was hyped and mashing that piano lol. This was incredible. Ive literally run out of adjectives to describe Jacob at this point.
They say the most talented artists have the most talented audiences.
They were right.

Amen!
Keep writing those delicious words that trickle
I absolutely love this comment!!!!!!
You hit the nail on the head there! Grazie!
Absolutamente
this is a top 50 UA-cam video of all time right here. Something is so unreal about the energy of it
Music is all about expectation, and Jacob is always making sure you get what you're not waiting for.
This. One could argue all the improvisatory genres (jazz, gospel, r&b) aim to do this, to give you what you didn't know you needed.
Oddly agist comment lmao.

6:24 Jacob’s about to close out the song but Daniel tells him to keep it going for an encore. They bust out this masterpiece improv style.
moments like 3:37 (after he says "rain" and plays that funky chord) remind me of a talent of Jacob's that isn't talked about much. He is SO GOOD at word painting, which is like matching lyrics to specific sounds in music. His understanding of voicings and how certain chords can create meaning or add emphasis to lyrics is incredible and practically unmatched. Awesome, awesome stuff
this is the exact reason why i liked the video, amazing
True
Dude they need to release this audio to Spotify. I’ve watched this video like 50 times.
I agree. I always have to switch to UA-cam so I could listen to this. I can't even close my screen hahaha
Exactly. It’s just too good.
Seriously!
Jacob Collier is who can play anything he wants. I mean EVERYTHING. What a genius!
As far as I'm aware, Jacob has never played a wind instrument, so no, he can't play everything. Besides, in this video he only plays piano and sings, so it's not really relevant to talk about his multi-instrumental skills.
I think this guys means to the songs and rhytms, Jacob can do magic with any song
@@bro748 I wasn't talking about his multi-instrumental skills. He is capable to produce or play any sorts of music. His understanding of music theory and approach is on top level.
