This is so accurate I don't even know what to say. I sometimes just fall down the rabbit hole of Jacob Collier and resurface to find I've been away for hours.
Jacob Collier is quintessential musicians' musician. Out there, really experimental, very intelligent. I'm even surprised a mainstream publication would feature him like this.
In what world is this "out there"? This is straight up Vanilla music disguised as "clever and experimental" collier fans are the worst. So much pretension, so little knowledge...
Depends on your life situation if you do or don’t kno these songs. No judgment is necessary about whether someone expresses that for them, these songs were obscure.
I was looking for this comment because I wanted to add that this goes to show how amazing his mind is. His brain is 2 steps ahead of his body, already sending the signals to his arms and hands to get ready for the gloves part of the sentence before he's even finished processing the cognitive thought and then catches up with himself and says "such as gloves! there you go" lol
For real, its like "wow it's actually humanly possible to understand music on that intimate of a level" and then you go sit down and play your instrument and then it's like "wow Jacob Collier is the only human on earth who is able to understand music so intimately"
M1dorin he don’t have a level of complexity such as negative harmonies. There are much proofs that he composed much things when he was a kid but he did the melodies while his father “completed “it so, why wouldn’t he be able to be compared? Jacob is compared to him for his talent. Mozart isn’t the one musicians and theorist thinks as the goat (this is Bach btw)
Weirdly I actually just like this dude as a person, crazy harmonies aren't really my thing, but I love how open and warm he is when talking about them. This is what happens when you warmly encourage creativity in a bright kid. He's CONFIDENT, and so happy with the sounds he's making.
Jacob is the Mozart and Beethoven of our time.....pay attention, learn from him, study him and remember him - we are so lucky he exists in our lifetimes. He should be known - tell others what this incredible musician can do. He is a musical genius who knows he also has the power to change not only anything in music but how people feel about themselves, our society etc. with his messages of peace, love and caring for others. He is truly unique and important to learn from. All people, not just musicians, should know about him and what he does and how he creates. Amazing indeed. What a brain! Most of us literally only use about 10% of our brain - can't say that about Jacob Collier.

I got to see him live in Hamburg and my god, he’s just brilliant and such a beautiful soul! Was very upset that his concert in Berlin on April 1st got cancelled :/

he’s such a fresh air to the music industry. he has so much to talk about when it comes to music, he gets so passionate, and that’s amazing to see. he seems like a really nice human being too.
2 days ago I clicked on this video with no idea who Jacob was. I have since listened to all of his albums and watched his entire UA-cam channel. His talent, skill, and personality are overwhelmingly magnetic.
Jacob uses his perfect pitch to sing the song first and then play the rest of chords, haha, how blessed he is with his perfect pitch, hardwork, and not to mention his good personality too
He definitely has perfect pitch. Just watch one of his streams where he can tell by how many cents a singer is off key without any notes to go off, and tell you the key signature of a song within like the first 5 secs etc. Obviously there’s natural perfect pitch there but he’s worked on it a hell of a lot to get it as good as it is
william land honestly i think he was just being funny🤷🏽♂️😂 but maybe he was implying that the he thinks the song is great the way it is? i don’t think he would mean it in a cocky “i could go higher than ariana” way
THANK YALL FOR LETTING HIM JUST TALK AND PLAY!!! I'm so glad that y'all didn't cut him off and just let him be. Simply be. And we got to enjoy his be-ing.
@@hugebeebop2955 how so? Certainly Not characterwise, and also not in the tonal language. What reminds me of Mozart is the ease and playfulness he displays, and extreme memory. Beethoven takes everything extremely seriously and wrestled for every note.
@@ramram4754 oh i see. You can see it that way. I was thinking more about the influence and the subversivness. And maybe it's because i widely prefer Beethoven and i want JC to be respected (but i mean Mozart is already a fair comparison)
Watching Jacob Collier videos, it's so nice how people just let him riff and keep going. Like he's making gold, who's going to tell him to stop. It's not even ego. It feels like he wouldn't even push back if you asked him to cut. He doesn't strike me as the kind of person who brings up that he has 4 Grammy's. But, it's obvious when he's just playing that he deeply loves music in a way that challenges your notion of deep. One of my favorite things about the modern world is that people like him can thrive and make music. Imagine if someone shamed little 5 year old Jacob Collier, making up melodies for the times tables? The world would be a poorer place.
"It's not even ego." A lot of people don't seem to understand this. Some people think he's just bragging about his talent with his perfect pitch or really fast riffs, but that's just Jacob's self. That's his essence. He doesn't play piano or guitar, he plays Jacob.
Now and again, a musician will play a chord while singing, and it will sound wonky, and I'll think something along the lines of "this sounds weird because they lack musicality". Then Jacob Collier will be playing a chord while singing, and it will sound wonky, and I'll think something along the lines of "this sounds weird because I lack musicality".
Not necessarily, he's not exactly a millionaire so he hasn't really nailed musicality himself. I find him very entertaining as a musician and more as a person, but most of what he plays is technically amazing while being nothing anyone would pay to own and that's part of musicality. A song can be technically perfect but not have the listener appeal to become a money maker, and making the money is the point... or so they say. By they I mean most people.
@@korkee1111 I think equating musicality with how many people a song appeals to and how much money it makes is probably a mistake. Unless you think the same old pop-country ballads over the same old 4 chords, or autotuned lyrically deficient codeine-trap music are the epitome of musicality.
Wonkiness is relative. Does that mean more traditional chords are better than Jazz or what Jacob is playing? No of course not, but the more you expose yourself to different types of music (culturally and in different genres), the easier it will be for you to find the beauty in the weirdness.
@@TwiggyAlienorCameron I totally get what you're saying but since we all (unless you've got a VPN) live in capitalist societies and nobody spends their lives perfecting their ability to play without hopes of cashing in on it. Sad, but true... I guess it's more of a comment on society than Jacob.

This is so accurate I don't even know what to say. I sometimes just fall down the rabbit hole of Jacob Collier and resurface to find I've been away for hours.
The universal experience of watching Jacob Collier videos
Jacob Collier is quintessential musicians' musician. Out there, really experimental, very intelligent. I'm even surprised a mainstream publication would feature him like this.
In what world is this "out there"? This is straight up Vanilla music disguised as "clever and experimental" collier fans are the worst. So much pretension, so little knowledge...
He is 100 percent counting the ten in his head and waiting till 1 second is left on purpose

I love how obscure his selections are. The musicality of this dude is the real deal.
Not really, they're all popular music songs.
Depends on your life situation if you do or don’t kno these songs. No judgment is necessary about whether someone expresses that for them, these songs were obscure.
I like how varied they are. Dude pulled out both Ella, Ariana, Imogen, and James in one sitting.
And then the word is Sun and I come up with the same song he chooses. I'm so proud of myself for that one.
Yeah, Here comes the sun is pretty obscure
Jacob Collier looks like his brain exploded inside his head, but the only thing that reacted was his hair.
And his clothes

Jacob going “Idk why I’m doing this with my hands” but just vibing with it is my favorite thing
And then realizing slightly later why .. ah gloves !

M1dorin he don’t have a level of complexity such as negative harmonies. There are much proofs that he composed much things when he was a kid but he did the melodies while his father “completed “it so, why wouldn’t he be able to be compared?

This dude is so naturally, effortlessly, charmingly weird.
Jacob uses his perfect pitch to sing the song first and then play the rest of chords, haha, how blessed he is with his perfect pitch, hardwork, and not to mention his good personality too
the crazy thing is that he doesn’t have perfect pitch. his relative pitch is just so good that he essentially has perfect pitch if hears middle c
SioPaolo He has perfect pitch
He doesn’t haha if you don’t know that it means look it up
What's your problem people. He does have perfect pitch

"It's not even ego."
A lot of people don't seem to understand this. Some people think he's just bragging about his talent with his perfect pitch or really fast riffs, but that's just Jacob's self. That's his essence. He doesn't play piano or guitar, he plays Jacob.
I feel like he could sing whatever and say "this is a song I created just right now in this moment", and we'd all buy it
Jacob collier is the alien of music that has come down to earth to bless us with his talent.
Haha nicely said
Not necessarily, he's not exactly a millionaire so he hasn't really nailed musicality himself.
