Unbelievable! I watched this video 2 days ago. Since then, I've been googling to fine a place near me to get CIMT done, can't find any. I'm 30miles north of NYC, surrounded by several major imaging networks and hospitals, and nothing so far! Is this a rare equipment, or requires a very specialized training?
Have you looked at New York Medical Associates PC. I am not affiliated with them in any way but their website does suggest that they do the test. They are located in New York City.
Carotid Dopplers do not just evaluate flow. They evaluate the plaque and plaque morphology, and use velocities within a stenosis to determine the degree of stenosis that does correlate with direct risk of stroke. They also absolutely do differentiate between calcified and non-calcified, soft plaques. CIMT studies are not even intended to look at plaque. They simply obtain an average thickness of the carotid artery wall in a segment of the artery that is essentially free of visible plaque, and plug it in to a formula, along with the age and sex of the patient, that indirectly estimates the risk of coronary artery disease and heart attack. Two very different exams with different indications.
As I've told you before - I am not taking ANY pharmaceutical drugs. I'm taking several supplements, trying to control blood pressure, and cholesterol. What natural supplement would be best for trying to stabilize the soft plaque? Calcium?
It might seem like calcium makes sense but that's not the case, some help like nattokinase, vitamin k2, vitamin D3, even berberine, but, none of them are as effective as a healthy lifestyle
@PrevMedHealth I'm active and am trying to eat right, but it's so confusing to know what diet menu to follow,, one says this, another says that - I'm going to try the low carb diet, but understand that some of the items on that list are not something that's good for cholesterol,, i.e. shrimp. My health store professional says shrimp is nothing BUT cholesterol and not to eat it (she watches you too!)
That's a clear missconception, dietary cholesterol, like the present on shrimp and Eggs are not a problem, unless You are allergic, almost any diet works, except for the SAD (standard american diet) is about finding what works for You, (You can do the diet long term and improves your biomarkers)
I'm 59 yo and I've been on Carnivore for a year now. I work out daily, walk and ride my dirtbike 2 times a week. My only vice is George Killian's beer at 15g of carbs per 12 oz bottle. I know they are bad for me, but they are damn tasty.
Should folks just assume they have soft plaque and eat accordingly and not wait for a CIMT test? But I would like to know the same way I wanted to know my fasting glucose and blood pressure which gave me inspiration/purpose to seek improvement.
Is the CAC (coronary artery calcium) score test basically the same as CIMT? OK just googled it and ...."A CAC scan is better than a CIMT scan for predicting cardiovascular disease events. However, a CIMT scan may perform better in younger populations where CAC is less common."... So basically similar but done differently.
According to this channel that is not correct Calcium score only tells plaque and does not break it down to hard or soft plaque Dr Brewer has many videos on this
So if I have been told (a few days ago) that I have a total CAT scan showing Calcium score of 118 I assume the CIMT would be a waste to do it. One of the arteries is 80 - one is 38 and three are 0"s. I wish I could hear from you.
Yes, a CIMT screening is only performed to estimate your risk of coronary artery disease. Since you already know you have plaque in the coronary arteries, the screening would be a waste of time and money. That being said, if you and/or your physician want to know if you are also developing carotid artery plaque (for stroke prevention), a carotid Doppler would be worthwhile and covered by insurance due to your known coronary artery disease.
Been following Dr. Brewer for years and he points out that CIMT has no ionizing radiation, unlike CAC's. So CIMTs can be repeated (to monitor results of your lifestyle improvements) and are low cost if you elect to get one without a doctor. My 2019 CIMT showed low risk; then a CAC score of 0.51 in 2023 seemed OK; but a 2024 CIMT found a "1.5H in bulb" plaque on one side. Now that I have plaque at age 70, I plan on another one or two annual CIMTs to monitor progression of plaque, since aging typically drives rate of plaque progression and since I have been avoiding statins.
CIMT is NOT the ONLY method of detecting soft plaque . CT angiograms can do this in the coronary arteries according to Dr. Google. Search results show that there are many studies and papers showing that this is possible with CT angiograms. I am not sure of the accuracy of each method in quantifying the amount of soft plaque?? CIMT is more desirable due to lower cost, being non- invasive and with no radiation. Any comment on the accuracy of each procedure??

It concerns me that folks in the study were told "not to intervene" if the CIMT found something. That seems questionably ethical though from a scientific standpoint it is understandable.
My recent calcium score level is 176. I asked my cardio PCP to listen to my carotid artery. She said, "sounds good." The "swooshing" was free flowing, so nothing to worry about. She implied. IDK.
So the how do you go about stabilizing the soft plaque. I know about the diet aspect but she mentions statins can stabilize plaque. Is this true, because so many things I have heard lately say that statins don’t really reduce the risk of cardiac events?
They don’t but they do cause a gambit of other terrible problems. Dementia, extreme muscle deterioration and your heart is a muscle. I use 1/8 of a tsp cayenne pepper in a little milk to keep optimum flow in my arteries.

Drink a shot of olive oil extra virgin if you want to do it naturally and eat healthy, don’t smoke, exercise or you can have surgery to remove it or have a stent placed if needed
So what if a person can't exercise enough to help reverse artery disease & someone like me who just doesn't feel full eating veggies & Seems to need carbs in order to feel full. I don’t eat very much but I don’t feel full just eating salad or a little soup. So I seem to need to eat carbs in order to feel full like toast or noodles or oatmeal or corn on the cob or things of that nature to feel really full and not get nauseated when I eat I don't eat meat & very little fish. I love cheese but it is a big No-no!! So I am worried given the high plaque in my carotid artery! I am doing red rice yeast, niacin & garlic. Which I believe helps but my doctor my current cardiologist says that that won’t do anything and he’s pushing a statin on me and of course the baby aspirin. But I think garlic things your blood and I think red rice yeast and niacin help control the plaque from progressing. What’s got me worried is that I have so much already I’m at the edge of needing surgery because they say when it’s 70 to 99%. But I’ve also heard that people that have less plaque have strokes and heart attacks. But I also failed my stress test twice. Yeah the information I got from my cardiologist says that my heart is strong I don’t have a heart murmur anymore and my Matcha valve regurgitation is minor. I do have a high calcium score of 1000 but if people had calcium scores that are like 250 still had strokes and heart attacks. I triglycerides are low my HDL‘s are high and my LDL‘s are a little high but I need to know which type they are before I want to take something for them other than what I’m already doing. My big concern is I’m having a difficult time finding things to eat that are not carbs in order to feel full even though I eat very small amounts. Like I could eat two pieces of toast sourdough bread. Or I can have half a cup of soup or I can have a handful of noodles that aren’t gluten and I’m full. And I can eat an egg and a piece of toast and I’m full eating the egg by itself might not make me full. So what can I eat To eat less carbs and to be able to help keep plaque under control?
I want to access it. I saw a life line screening add it said, "need a CMIT" . It was a four part screen but all they measured was blood flow. Not the thickness. I'm in Olympia wa . Where do I get one.

I find comments that can be enlightening and useful as they exhibit the situations that people are dealing with. And the things that have helped.
So if I understand correctly, we need to turn our soft plaque into hard plaque . As far as I know , only statins can accomplish this , so should we all take statins until our plaque has calcified .

What I have read is vit c is important to keep artery supple like they were when we were young. They stiffen with age therefore slowing down the flow. Quick flow is better. I take 1/8 of a tsp cayenne pepper in a little milk. It has the capability of flushing arteries and improving flow and high doses of vit C
A bit off subject so sorry for this. Is it still worth taking niacin ? Tried to take it, and the flushing was so severe that many parts of my body developed tiny tiny tiny pimples with serious itching for many days after stopping. Statins had too many side effects. So now what ? Thanks.

This is actually a very common scenario. Often those with disease in large arteries such as the carotid, iliac, and femoral arteries do not develop problems in the smaller arteries such as the coronary, renal/mesenteric, and tibial arteries. The reverse is also true.
So I have a clear CIMT but a CTCA score of 11. I feel that the CIMT is not that indicative of coronary artery plaque. Interested at what other people think though.
She also says you can reduce the inflammation with diet change and exercise, but what if you have inflammation in the arteries due to auto immune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis? What can you do about that type of chronic inflammation and the impact it has on the heart?
I assume that the formation of plaque is a natural repair process as life progresses. Can we then come to finality about what is the causation of the plaque? I assume that it's lifestyle from being *citivized.* Off the top of my head, research scientists should be getting to the point, if not already, where they'll have large numbers of people on keto/carnivore to test...and then even testing those who've been keto/carnivore for the majority of their lives.
Yes and no........Look at your triglyceride/hdl ratio its quite predictive for cholesterol sticking to your blood vessels. The higher the ratio the greater the chance of heart attack, stroke and plaques. It the cholesterol particle size is small, you are in trouble. Look at your hemoglobin AIC and fasting insulin. Insulin resistance means small particle size and more inflammation! Small particle size cholesterol is made in the liver. She right too many carbohydrates is the issue along with exercise. To recap hdl / triglyceride ratio at 1 is excellent, as its get higher approaching 5 your in greater trouble. best to you.

I am on Medicare and correct they do not pay for the CIMT test. I am resolute, and convinced my doc this test is important to my treatment, (already had CAC of 167). I had to step up, insist on this test, and manage up to make it happen. The only lab I could find quoted $800, all out of pocket, and I am living on $30k a year. Have you looked at New York Medical Associates PC. I am not affiliated with them in any way but their website does suggest that they do the test. They are located in New York City.
Thank you for this knowledgeable information. May God bless you doctor.
Very good analogy.

So the Doppler has a risk assessment?
I had the life screening and it was Doppler. The gave my no score.

As I've told you before - I am not taking ANY pharmaceutical drugs. I'm taking several supplements, trying to control blood pressure, and cholesterol.
What natural supplement would be best for trying to stabilize the soft plaque? Calcium?

Should folks just assume they have soft plaque and eat accordingly and not wait for a CIMT test? But I would like to know the same way I wanted to know my fasting glucose and blood pressure which gave me inspiration/purpose to seek improvement.
Is the CAC (coronary artery calcium) score test basically the same as CIMT? OK just googled it and ...."A CAC scan is better than a CIMT scan for predicting cardiovascular disease events. However, a CIMT scan may perform better in younger populations where CAC is less common."... So basically similar but done differently.
According to this channel that is not correct
Calcium score only tells plaque and does not break it down to hard or soft plaque Dr Brewer has many videos on this
65% as high risk. So, is there any way to see, during the last 6 years, how many actually experienced a cardiac event?

If we r high risk. W/c preventative tx is better, baby aspirin or statins?
She said she was taking statins.
So what if a person can't exercise enough to help reverse artery disease & someone like me who just doesn't feel full eating veggies & Seems to need carbs in order to feel full. I don’t eat very much but I don’t feel full just eating salad or a little soup.
So I seem to need to eat carbs in order to feel full like toast or noodles or oatmeal or corn on the cob or things of that nature to feel really full and not get nauseated when I eat
I don't eat meat & very little fish.

I'll give an uneducated guess.....maybe your arteries are damaged from too much stress due to working out too intensely.Let them rest.
What is the cost of the CIMT test?
$150-400
A bit off subject so sorry for this. Is it still worth taking niacin ? Tried to take it, and the flushing was so severe that many parts of my body developed tiny tiny tiny pimples with serious itching for many days after stopping. Statins had too many side effects. So now what ? Thanks.

It was disappointing to say the least when my angiogram wasn't all clear. Far from it, and that they wanted me on a statin and beta blocker. Sometimes if it's familial we can't avoid it completely, I'm sure if I was not following a healthy lifestyle I might of already had a heart attack. Aspirin, blood thinners, you can ad a low dose statin for its antinflammitory properties. Years working in the industry, I did a B-mode carotid ultra sound and saw a shadow which meant a plaque. I have been taking aspirin ever since, 30 years

I just had surgery (endarterectomy) to remove 89% blockage from my right carotid artery. I have had previous TIA. The left carotid has a 69-70% blockage. My heart cath shows normal arteries. What am I to make of this? If you could answer my question I sure would appreciate it. Thank you.
This is actually a very common scenario. Often those with disease in large arteries such as the carotid, iliac, and femoral arteries do not develop problems in the smaller arteries such as the coronary, renal/mesenteric, and tibial arteries. The reverse is also true.
how did you know you had blockage? What were your symptoms or what made you want to check carotid artery??
So I have a clear CIMT but a CTCA score of 11. I feel that the CIMT is not that indicative of coronary artery plaque.
Interested at what other people think though.
I thought Dr Brewer said statins have no bearing on heart attack/stroke
He actually recommends low dose statins in certain cases and took them himself.
There are no studies that support that statins prevent heart attack.
Does this suggest calcium supplementation or some such???
She also says you can reduce the inflammation with diet change and exercise, but what if you have inflammation in the arteries due to auto immune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis? What can you do about that type of chronic inflammation and the impact it has on the heart?
I was a carnivore for year and still had 89% plaque blockage. I also gave Lupus and RA.
look into mineral supplementation, especially lugols iodine
Will insurance cover the CIMT test?
I assume that the formation of plaque is a natural repair process as life progresses. Can we then come to finality about what is the causation of the plaque? I assume that it's lifestyle from being *citivized.* Off the top of my head, research scientists should be getting to the point, if not already, where they'll have large numbers of people on keto/carnivore to test...and then even testing those who've been keto/carnivore for the majority of their lives.
My personality is set up for carnivore...lol.
Do the cholesterol scores mean anything related to the CIMT info?
