    My late dad played this to me when I was 14 years old, and I was in hysterics! I hadn't heard it again until last night, and as well as making me laugh once more, it has brought back some wonderful memories of my dad- thanks for giving me a wonderful sense of humour pops, Sleep Well

    I had the LP back in at least the 1990s, and I listened to this again and blow me down, if I didn't remember most of the funny lines.
    Not bad for about 30 years!
    And do you know what...he's still funny.

    When my local got the funky moped on it's jukebox, I selected and played this side of the single, it was a Saturday night and the whole pub stopped, listened to it and stood up and aplouded 😂

    The 'A' side "Funky Moped" featured Jasper's old school mate Bev Bevan with Jeff Lynne, Richard Tandy and Kelly Groucutt. It was basically E.L.O. without the string section. "Funky Moped" was produced by Jeff Lynne, it reached #5 in the UK singles chart.

      It was played on radio 1 when they interviewed jasper can't renumber which DJ it was but after playing Funky Moped he flipped it over and played the Magic Roundabout live on air.

    Jasper Carrot. Class act and this is top of the class. It sold on the other side...Funky Moped, which was quite funny too. Been a fan of Jaspers for well over 40 years!

      I heard him use the B word at a live show he was doing in York with Phil Cool. They was doing a Q&A at the end of their sets when someone asked if the could impersonate each other , when Phil Did Jasper he replied with you B*****d !!

    Thanks for posting! Have been looking for this for decades! I grew up in the West Midlands but moved in 1983 when I was 7. No one in the States would ever really get this humor. My dad had this and a few other Jasper Carrot performances on cassette and was always listening to them.

      Pleased you found it here Dave, This came straight from DJM records during my D.J.days in 1975, I was doing Butlin's for the whole season, I played this often and so many people wanted to know what it was, as I got it before it came in the shops, it felt like I almost got it in the charts personally as the word got around. I just love Jasper Carrot, best stand up comedian ever in my books : )

    still recall the first time I heard this...St Lawrence youth club in Sidcup....was chucked out because they found out I wasn't a catholic.....the collar guy never got the irony as this was playing in the background during my expulsion.....thanks for the memory lane gig again mate....

    I seem to remember that 'Funky Moped' was the 'A' side because the BBC would never have played the record if 'Magic Roundabout ' had been so. Ah the wonderful days of innocence and Mrs Whitehouse!

    I grew up on this as a kid in England. I particularly remember puppet shows like Four Feather Fours and Andy Pandy. It was rumored that the Magic Roundabout was the product of an acid trip. "Who knows?' said Zebedee, "Time for bed" Boing, or is it Bong!

      Magic Roundabout was originally a children's program on French television. Eric Thompson wrote the English narration which had nothing to do with the original French, and IMHO may well have been the product of an acid trip.

    Lord knows how I heard about this when I was about 11 or 12 but having two older brothers probably had something to do with it. Those were the days when people had to buy vinyl to get new comedy. Before you knew it I was listening to Monty Python, Cheech and Chong and that long-forgotten Blaster Bates.

      Purchased for this side of course,I got mine as soon as it was released,sent to me free by the record company to promote and it of course got very positive results when I played it regularly at Butlins (adult disco) of course : ) 1975.

    Someone in Germany when I was in the forces. Asked uncle Dave on BFBS forces radio to play magic roundabout on childrens hour. And he started to play it. Bet you can’t guess what bit it got to when it came off quick.

    I still have this single. The A side was Funky Moped, but I think what sold the record was this classic B side. In fact this may have been a double A sided single because both tracks were listed together on the charts according to my hit singles books I have.

      No "funky moped" was the officially released single A side. Magic Roundabout became popular with the DJ's who played it a lot instead of the A side, hence helping with the sales of Funky Moped.

    The 'A' side was 'Funky Moped', yeah right. The BBC wouldn't play this side. I remember going in to buy this & asking for 'Funky Moped'. "Riiiiiiight ", said the salesman.

    3:46 why do the audience laugh really hard at the line ‘it’s all over the canteen’. Is there a double meaning/innuendo I’m not getting?

      I think it just refers to the way people gossip, especially in canteens perhaps, maybe you need to ask someone who works in a canteen : )
