- There's a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor
Tomorrow for old England she sails
Far away from your land of endless sunshine
To my land full of rainy skies and gales
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow
Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
I've heard there's a wicked war a-blazing
And the taste of war I know so very well
Even now I see the foreign flag a-raising
Their guns on fire as we sail into hell
I have no fear of death, it brings no sorrow
But how bitter will be this last farewell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
Though death and darkness gather all about me
My ship be torn apart upon the seas
I shall smell again the fragrance of these islands
And the heaving waves that brought me once to thee
And should I return home safe again to England
I shall watch the English mist roll through the dell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
To anyone who reads this, My father was in the U.S.A.F. he was deployed to Korea in 1975 for 1-Year. In 1976 when I was age 15, my mother sister and I drove from Austin, Texas to Calf to a Air Force Base to pick him up and we spent our Summer vacation there, but as we went through El Paso and continued driving to Calf, I heard this beautiful song being played on the radio every few hours, I never new the name of this song or the Artist, I just always remember the last few words "FOR YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL" I searched for this today on Feb.7,2014 and I finally found it 38-Yrs later, thanks UA-cam!
2024. Dear England. What have your politicians done to you beautiful hardworking people? I wish you all the best from South Africa.
There can be no Last Farewell from Roger's music, his voice will last forever. Thank you for your songs, Mr. Whittaker, rest in peace.
RIP Roger, a voice that will live on forever
I’ve been listening to this song with a 96 yr old widow. He sings all the lyrics and it brings a tear to my eye 🥲
My dad passed last September, he was in the Falklands in 1983, he worked there for a year and loved the islands. We played this as his last song at his funeral RIP dad
Roger's voice keeps me calm when life is stormy and heaving around me.
This song is a classic, sung by a true gentleman, with a great voice, and remember at one time the British were the greatest Ship Builders in the world
Had this sung at my retirement from the Navy!
My dad passed last September, he was in the Falklands in 1983, he worked there for a year and loved the islands. We played this as his last song at his funeral RIP dad

1960s was a great decade. Nice and clear to listen to.
RIP Mr Whittaker. My dad would play his music, especially on Sundays in Jamaica,
Today a legend has gone to rest. Farewell, Sir. May your new journey be filled with wonder and joy.💗
As a Vietnam veteran, this song touches me on several levels.
We played this at my Fathers Funeral last year over a montage of pictures of his 89 year life as RW was his favourite.
As an Irish man I listen to his hits every morning on my old Cassette player I don't want to leave the 1960s, it helps me to get in shape for the day ahead, absolutely brilliant 🎉@paddy Sullivan 📼 1990s Cork ireland🎉🎉🎉🎉
His voice and music will forever be missed.
My grandmothers favorite song. My Grandfather was a sailor who fought the enemy in WW1. My father who was involved with the Fleet Air Arm in the Suez and the Far East fleet of the 50's. My great great great great Grandfather who was a whaling ship Captain who navigated, charted and explored Antarctica and her Grandson (me) who did his bit in the Gulf of the 90's HMCS Regina. She was proud of us all. Love you Granny.
