The lyrics flew by at lightning speed, and I did my best to keep up with the rapid-fire delivery, even though some parts were a bit of a tongue twister. To my surprise, as I sang, more and more people joined in, creating an impromptu chorus. Strangers became instant collaborators, shouting out the catchy lines and harmonizing with me. It was a fantastic moment of unity and shared joy as we all came together through the power of music. By the time the song ended, the entire bar was buzzing with energy and excitement. Strangers were high-fiving and hugging, sharing in the collective experience we had just created. The atmosphere remained vibrant throughout the night, with the positive energy lingering long after "One Week" had faded into the background. That evening, the song "One Week" became a symbol of the incredible connections that can be forged through music. It reminded me of the power of a catchy tune to bring people together, even if just for a fleeting moment. This song will always be my classic happy song, doesn't matter the mood, situation, whatever... This song will take me out of the darkest places and I will never stop coming back to it ❤️
All Barenaked Ladies songs sound both happy and melancholic at the same time. I could never listen to them because I can feel Mr. Page's pain through his music. The happy/melancholy duality is a subtle call for help that nobody saw coming. I hope they are all doing well.
Said this in high school when this came out and I say it still to this day: not a single one of these guys has the rock and roll "look" but damn they were fun and I miss the 90s.
Upbeat? Check 90s look and sound? Check. Name drops Leann Rimes, X-Files, Sting, Kurosawa films, and Sailor Moon? Check. If there's a song that's more 90s than this, I don't know it.
cant wait to see you steven page at the centre in dryden, ontario, canada on november 12th,2023!!!!!!getting excited and listening to lots of your music!!
Biggest reason I got in to this song was because it mentioned Sailor Moon and back in '98 it blew my mind to hear anime mentioned from something mainstream
Learned about this song through Mouth Moods. I can't actually listen to this without expecting the instrumentals to Stand By Me or Smooth Criminal, or the vocals from Smooth to come in.
Songs like this or " Len - Steal my sunshine " are the type of radio hits that really make you appreciate you got to grow up in the 90's, even tho at the time you had no idea how much of an exciting era you were part of cuz it all seemed like normal boring real life.... If only we could go back and live it all over again before social media killed the human soul.
Basically this and Spin Doctors by Two Princes are the epitomy of everything the 90s gave us - punk style rock, mixed with rapping and skatting, with almost pop-like choruses.
This used to be one of my dads favourite songs. I learnt all the words to sing it to him one day. He died this summer, and I regret never being able to
True story: the first time I ever heard of these guys was the week before christmas 20 years ago and the frigging announcer for the radio program went "Up next we have Bare naked ladies singing We Three Kings"... and I went WHAAAAA...? unti I heard the song.... Probably what got me to start listening to the band. *walks away singing* If I had a million dollars...
Imagine showing up to a record label and saying "We're going to name our band Barenaked Ladies and our first song is gonna go Chickity China, The Chinese Chicken."
"If you check the lyrics of their songs, they can talk about almost anything. From physics to films. They’re the most cultured band that I am aware of." You clearly have a very narrow musical scope, lol.

@AngelGroves and I could hear your comment to the tune of "One Week" .. nicely done! 👏
@@krystalharris79 haha. Thanks! 🙂
This has to be one of the most amazing pre chorus and chorus combos ever hahahaha
"the boom anime babes" lol these dudes were men of culture 2 decades before the term came into the mainstream
Anime had just broken through in North America when this song came out. Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon were fairly popular back then
thank you
Rhyming anime with golf was a level most of society has yet to reach.
never forget that they said, "They got the boom Anime babes, to make me think the wrong thing."
they were truly ahead of their time
i believe he said cartoon babes but idk
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing
It's called hentai and it's art.
To Mac, Admiral is actually correct. They say;
"Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes"
So I think you may in fact be the deaf one.
Digimon: The Movie!
Early 2000's were the best...
Yes!
Amen to that
***** It's from 1998 actually. It even reached #1 in the U.S. in October 1998
Kyle Tee oh fuck, you yanks always have to bring it back to that.
Kyle Tee It probably was for someone, there was bound to be more going on on this planet somewhere.
I was still pretty young when this came out. I replayed that track so many times until I had all the lyrics memorized. It doesn't feel that long ago... When I hear it at the grocery store, sometimes I sing along. Good times.
I can't believe I forgot this great song in Digimon The Movie was sung by the Barenaked Ladies. Even better that I love Red vs Blue. Ed Robertson is Captain Flowers/Agent Florida in that series.
***** I didn't know that Digimon and Power Rangers came on at the same time. :P They were on the same channel. It was the same saturday morning cartoon block.
***** made a new digimon show, its called digimon fusion.
RED6UA Yea, I know. Never watched any of the Digimon series after Adventure 02. As soon as Tai, Kari and the others were gone, I just never got around to it. Tai will be appearing in Fusion along with some other old Digidestiened thanks to some Universal Warp Digimon.
ackbarfan5556 Do you know if he new show is any good?
***** I'm just gonna watch the episodes that have the older Digidestined. That's gonna be a while. Might come by next winter.
0:50 "I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean, well, you soon will"
This might be my second favorite lyric.
My first favorite?
IT'S BEEN-
Only a human would know the entire song. No vampire could do that.
no
I know every word! My favorite song since it came out!!

This song will always be my classic happy song, doesn't matter the mood, situation, whatever... This song will take me out of the darkest places and I will never stop coming back to it ❤️

You know this song is about a guy who murdered his gf, right?
@@BeruCamposdo WHAT
I just now realized how threatening the line “I’m the kinda guy that laughs at a funeral. Can’t understand what I mean?Well you soon will.” Is...lol.
There’s a theory this song is about a guy killing his girlfriend
@@kobebarka8633 really tf
@@kobebarka8633 Ed confirmed that it wasn't, but he can see why people would think that
Now that I'm older, I think it's about how if you live long enough you'll have the feeling too.
All Barenaked Ladies songs sound both happy and melancholic at the same time. I could never listen to them because I can feel Mr. Page's pain through his music. The happy/melancholy duality is a subtle call for help that nobody saw coming. I hope they are all doing well.
What? Wdym that they didn’t see coming? And pain? What happened?
Said this in high school when this came out and I say it still to this day: not a single one of these guys has the rock and roll "look" but damn they were fun and I miss the 90s.
"IT'S BEEN" is the most iconic opening to a song ever
Upbeat? Check
90s look and sound? Check.
Name drops Leann Rimes, X-Files, Sting, Kurosawa films, and Sailor Moon? Check.
If there's a song that's more 90s than this, I don't know it.
Because it is from the 90's, dummy. 1998.
it's scaring me-help!
I don't know if you know what kurosawa films are.
Tbh this song kind of seems like a meme so if it came out today I don't think it would be too weird.
It's like they were competing to have the strangest lyrics on a radio friendly song
hard to do now a days with censors. check original "jet airliner" and devil went down to georgia they were on the radio when i was a kid but no more
And I thought “Summer girls” was stream of consciousness nonsense
Not strangest, the word you’re looking for is “worst”
*boom anime babes*
its because the lyrics to the rap parts were totally improvised by Ed, and then re-recorded and sped up
Boom anime babes?.......ah i see, a man of culture
sailor moon is 16.
Yes sir
Triodium / wasn’t she 14 at first?
Triodium FBI OPEN UP! 🤣

Biggest reason I got in to this song was because it mentioned Sailor Moon and back in '98 it blew my mind to hear anime mentioned from something mainstream
Always happiness! You can't go wrong with this BareNaked Ladies radio hit!
Learned about this song through Mouth Moods.
I can't actually listen to this without expecting the instrumentals to Stand By Me or Smooth Criminal, or the vocals from Smooth to come in.
A very underrated bass line and bass player here!
this is definitely one of my favorite songs from the 90s.

I’ve heard many many songs from the late 90’s, but this one might just take the cake. Semi-Charmed Life is the only other competition I can think of.
This band is one of the most underrated song crafters.
Basically this and Spin Doctors by Two Princes are the epitomy of everything the 90s gave us - punk style rock, mixed with rapping and skatting, with almost pop-like choruses.
Spin Doctors are the band. Not Two Princes.
Pop-like? It IS pop
They once described their style as "acoustic hip hop." God, Hip-Hop was so different back then.
This song .. I never bored I’m 44;)!
I couldn't remember the band name or song, so I searched "its been Chinese chicken".........works
Thank you for this comment, bless you stranger. Either it's very early or that is very funny to me

Man I remember listening to this as a kid, this is my first time listening in yearsssss and I didn’t appreciate how great it really is
this is one of a kind, because I never ever hear another song that tried to emulate what they did here
When you realize the Barenaked Ladies are actually Fully Clothed Men
swindled
Maybe the real barenaked ladies are the friends we made along the way.
lol as if
True story: the first time I ever heard of these guys was the week before christmas 20 years ago and the frigging announcer for the radio program went "Up next we have Bare naked ladies singing We Three Kings"... and I went WHAAAAA...? unti I heard the song.... Probably what got me to start listening to the band. *walks away singing* If I had a million dollars...
But the singer does have a history of taking off his shirt
My entire life was a lie
Imagine showing up to a record label and saying "We're going to name our band Barenaked Ladies and our first song is gonna go Chickity China, The Chinese Chicken."

Truly a different time.
Also, this not their first song. Wasn't it Enid? Their first big hit?
Woke up dreaming about this song. Miss the classics!
It has been … many years but this is still one of my all time favorites!!

Nice to remember songs like this one. They bring good ol' memories. First time I heard it I was watching American Pie; I guess it represents the film, in a way. Too bad that good bands like this one aren't showing up anymore. Like if your childhood/gold times came back to your mind 👍👍
