I completely forgot about this song! So happy to be hearing it after so many years. Really takes me back to those times in my life like a sonic time machine. Such an awesome tune.
Brings me back to college in 98. The tune and lyrics just does it for me. Never knew why One Week was consider their best single to date I like this one so much better.
Because the hoooooooooook brings you baaaaack, and I'm telling you no liiiiiiiiiiiiies!!!! The song is so catchy with it's structure and chorus. And pop culture references may play a role too. That's why it was huge.
An incredible song with tight harmonies and meaningful lyrics...this song has it all! Steven Page has always been one of my favourite vocalists..a real musical gem!
It's ALWAYS a treat when every member of a band can sing well! Journey, Eagles, Barenaked Ladies, Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama are a few others I always enjoyed the 3-5 part harmonies in!
I recently bought Stunt on iTunes. It’s awesome hearing an album I used to listen to a lot in the late 90s and early 2000s. This is probably my favorite song on the album 💿
@@barryhessel6078 It's a comic strip that's featured in a lot of newspapers. It got a cartoon adaptation in the early 2000s and this was the theme song
I wrote a screenplay for "Baby Blues" in 2000, for which I got paid a nice sum. But the show's second season was canceled before it got animated. So ended my screenwriting career.
Something immortal about this song. The lyrics, the harmony, the symbolism, the perspective, the layered meanings are all spot on. Also, we can understand every word that Steven Page sings. That is reminiscent of the Beatles, Diana Ross, the Supremes, Credence Clearwater Revival--all the great groups. What a fabulous group of Canucks. Miss them but their music lives on.
The song is a sendup of the perfect pop song, played (almost) perfectly straight, and thus in itself a perfect pop song. The "same three chords" line in the bridge gives a wink and a nod to the musicians listening, like a Shakespearean aside to the audience. The chord progression, the structure, the progression of the lyrics, everything about it is absolutely hackneyed, but the lyrics themselves are fresh and keep you engaged to the perfectly trite repetition of the final chorus. It is a bloody masterpiece, and I will fight anyone who disagrees. The first time I heard it I laughed so hard I almost coughed up my liver.

Omg. Weird how music can take you right back and you can sing every lyric spot on after 20 years. I’d beg him to play this on his CD player whenever we went for a drive and we’d rock out together. This song just floated through my Brain and I couldn’t remember anything other than “he’s singing about her running down the aisle and something about you go your way, I’ll go mine” and ahhh I am so glad I got to hear this today. What a marvelous song and what wonderful memories. Instant joy.

I love BNL, and I've seen them live three times. They're still great, but they'll never be the same without Steven Page. I wish they could settle their differences.

Also, why does the youth today HAVE to learn what real music is, and why is the answer to that the Barenaked Ladies? They already have their own "real music" that someday they'll complain about the other kids not "getting." And it won't be Justin Bieber or Kesha - that's not what's going to survive in memory. In the future they'll be saying things like, "Back in my day we had REAL music like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, not this crap like the SparkleGurlz [or whatever the bubblegum pop is at that point]." Everyone thinks the time they grew up was the golden age of everything.
well to respond this, yes this band has its moments with music, and the real taste of music did came from this but also other bands or solo artists too. plus the only reason I would like the youth today to learn of oldies music is bc that way they could be more inspire to do it more and find there talent. Some artist take notes on how rock n' roll was done or how hip hop was created from RnB/Jazz & a bit of rock too. ***** Yeah. Everyone - ALMOST everyone thinks their generation's culture, not just the music, but any media, was the classiest, hippest, the top of the heap, until the NEXT generation comes along. Some of the artists & bands we think are so fantastic might be footnotes in a cultural history book 35 - 40 years down the road.
What we've got here, ladies and gents, is a case of synchronicity. For an inexplicable reason, this song has entered the minds of several people with no relation to each other at near the same time, leading them here and bringing comments to this video. The world is a crazy place.

Notice the shifting perspectives from cat to dog to person watching TV to bird. The point might be that "it's all been done before", over and over the same thing, but it's still different and wonderful because each experience is unique. "If I put my fingers here, and if I say I love you dear, and if I play the same three chords, will you just say 'It's all been done before?" Of course not. We all experience these things, and the point is it doesn't matter that it's all been done before by someone else. It's still worth doing to have the experience, and it's unique to each person who has it, even if it looks like something that's tiresome to someone jaded and unable to see how it can be new and fresh to someone. I think this is the most un-cynical song I've heard in a long time, and probably the most ironic given the song's title. :) In any case, what a cool song.
I also love how it seems to move through the generations. It starts with him wooing her, and then sounds like it moves on to wondering if he'll cry or smile when it's his daughters' turn to walk down the isle.

There are bands that advertise in a certain way, such as the Barenaked Ladies and also free beer. Hey, you musicians are wonderful! Way to pack them in. For real.
@@SM-ok3sz lol seriously, they were nominated for 2 grammys, this song peaked at #2 on Billboard top 100, and they won Best Selling Canadian group at the World Music Awards in 2000. I'd say they were rated just right.
Andrew ''dice'' clay once lived in that house where the video was filmed.the guys from BNL mention it in the behind the scenes portion of the greatest video hits dvd.
The one thing I remember is always hearing in the 90's It's 4:45 on a rainy monday afternoon but don't let traffic and weather get you down here's a new single by the barenaked ladies only on Vancouver's hit station Z95.3.
heh...least im not the only one coming here cuz of baby blues lol. how i miss these days......best music around....no other decade could compete with these bands. so simple, no selling out...just pure epicness
Did anyone see (I think) the beakless bird at 2:48? I posted a year ago but at that time I did NOT see that. I if am crazy, let me know and I will withdraw this . . . if I can.
This song brings me back to when I did site security for a high rise office building downtown Portland Oregon. I first heard this song on satellite radio; as the officer on duty, I was given free reign with the music stations for the building. The late might workers always knew I was there whem places like the abandoned walk-through bank vault and what everyone called "The Haunted Hallway" had music pumped in overnight. Time passed faster with the music. This song came on the "Today's Hits" channel. I loved it immediately. Listening to it while doing floor-by-floor rounds, in uniform, as well as my boredom killer project, my chainmaille shirt that I was weaving at the time. I'd put the chainmaille shirt on over the uniform and the badge on the chainmaille. It certainly garnered recognition.
While I agree novelty is one of the things we treasure most, the fact that it has all been done is less relevant to each of us than we are the ones doing it. I understand the repetition can make it seem inane but somehow it is beautiful how we can connect with the past. I like to think we make the world better or time so even if things are repetitive we can all compare our lives to those of our ancestors and both relate that revere them because we stand on their shoulders.
i miss this era of music soooo badly... like you have no idea. and its weird cuz i wasnt even born then. but the music now... it doesnt mean any thing. or at least nothing worth thinking about. ugh.... i want those days back so badly.

I remember eating cereal before going to school while watching this on Much Music. Solid tune.
i remember my dad used to play this song in the car when i was 5. it got stuck in my head
By far my favorite bnl song ever written, recorded, sung, tomato, tomahto, ect. It's awesome.
This brings so much nostalgia for the Baby Blues cartoon.
Reminds me how great this entire album was!
Cool song! Let the good times return
I used to sit next to my brother while he played starfox and listen to the Barenaked Ladies. Nice memories.
And that's what i love about it. Love that 90's sound. :D
I actually didn’t know all these like iconic songs were them, i knew 1 week was them but this song, pinch me , 100000 dollars, i had no idea and i grew up with all these songs so im shocked
Can't wait seeing them in concert tomorrow!
I hadn't played that video in years. Somehow I find it strangely comforting.
There are bands that advertise in a certain way, such as the Barenaked Ladies and also free beer. Hey, you musicians are wonderful! Way to pack them in. For real.
these guys were seriously underrated
Imagine saying this on a video with 2.7M views
@@SM-ok3sz lol seriously, they were nominated for 2 grammys, this song peaked at #2 on Billboard top 100, and they won Best Selling Canadian group at the World Music Awards in 2000. I'd say they were rated just right.
TRUTH!
Nah man, these dudes were iconic in the 90s.
Andrew ''dice'' clay once lived in that house where the video was filmed.the guys from BNL mention it in the behind the scenes portion of the greatest video hits dvd.
history doesn't repeat itself , it rhymes
Good song..!! 2010 밴쿠버올림픽에서 김연아선수 피겨경기 끝나고
이 노래가 나와서 노래제목 알아냈는데 진짜 노래좋은거같다
I had this on an episode of Dawson's Creek; good times.
I MISS that show!
The one thing I remember is always hearing in the 90's
It's 4:45 on a rainy monday afternoon but don't let traffic and weather get you down here's a new single by the barenaked ladies only on Vancouver's hit station

God I love Barenaked ladies...The band is good too

What a gem
The music video makes me cry, Kev looks so happy, even how hard it was in that part of his life.

Who remembers this song playing as one of the soundtracks in a Dawson’s Creek episode?
Yep when they were filming Dawson's movie ❤
Did anyone see (I think) the beakless bird at 2:48? I posted a year ago but at that time I did NOT see that. I if am crazy, let me know and I will withdraw this . . . if I can.
It really sucks that they broke up, they had a great sound, I listened to them throughout my childhood/ teenage years
This song brings me back to when I did site security for a high rise office building downtown Portland Oregon.
Such a great tune!

I know the feeling, this music always reminds me of my mother before she got really sick because she would always play this in the car.
Hebi-chan What happened to her?
Rob Hadley multiple sclerosis and strokes
Urgh. It's extraordinary how music stimulates recall. It brings things right back.
🎶You were Wrong
I was Right
You said, "Goodbye"
